Chapter 4
Knowing that I told Lee everything I started to worry, I went out and I saw on television and in the news that Jesse B. died at 1318 Loner Street at midnight. Hearing and seeing those words started to frighten me even more, I know people, reports, would be at my door if I went back home or if I went to work. I had no place to go, Lee is at work and I don't want to bother him. So I go to the bank and got some money so I could get a room in a hotel, and get my car fixed. I called up the mechanic and he did his job then I drove over to the hotel and got a room.
I didn't really do anything when I got there besides think what should be my next move. I decided to go swimming, so I go out of my door and found a chair to put my stuff on I was just about to go into the pool when I found a guy staring at me. I ignored him and got in; doing a few laps back and forth I took a break and hit upon the edge of the pool where my foot dangled on top of the water. After a few good minutes, that same man came over and sat next to me. He ruined the nice warm feeling of the sun on my face, arms, and legs when he said hello. I didn't want to be rude but I didn't want to be bothered so I look at him and gave him a smile.
"Hello... Before you say something else I just came here not to be bothered and just to relax, okay. That's all I want I don't need anymore or anyone in this point of my life at this moment. So If you are going to ask where my room is I'm not going to say, if you're going to ask me out for a drink my answer is no, I am not trying to be disrespectful but I am going to get up and leave." So I did what I said I got up, grabbed my stuff and left back to my room, But before I got to the entrance to the hall he said.
"I never met a straightforward beautiful woman before." I ignored the fact he called me beautiful and went to my room. I took a shower to get the chlorine out of my hair and off of my body. When I got out, already dressed, I saw a note under the door, and it said,
'I would like to take this straightforward beautiful woman out to dinner if you approve my offer. Tonight I will meet you at the front of this fabulous plaza, dress fancy because I want you to look better than you already are for a night you won't forget.' Who in the world is this guy?
Later that night I just stayed in my room, I didn't know this guy why should I do what he says. Just before 6:40 there was a knock on my door, I thought it was the housekeeping bit when I looked through the peephole it was the guy. I just backed away slowly into the bathroom just in case if he comes in. He kept on saying how he knew that I was still in my room because the letter wasn't there under my door. I slowly open the bathroom door and crept into the kitchen part of the room and quietly grabbed a pan, a heavy frying pan. I walked to the door and opened it at the same time hitting him with the pan. A loud bang echoed the hall, I was dismayed at the man's body on the floor in front of me. My heart was buffeting until I heard a person put their hand on their door knob, I acted quickly so I grabbed the man's ankles and dragged him in my room.
As I locked the door I was afraid that I killed him so I checked his pulse, still breathing and good strong heartbeat. I patted him down checking for any weapon and some ID, then tied him up in a chair. His wallet said he was Jack D. Miller II.
