Chapter 50

Vance narrowed his eyes as he took a step towards the table. "You look familiar. Didn't we used to bang back in the day? What's your name again? Sandy?"

"Oh, so you're just going to pretend you don't remember me?" Sarah said. "I see you've gotten more mature since we broke up. Or should I say, since I dumped your ass."

"Dumped my ass? I've never been dumped in my life. Seriously, though, what's your name sweetheart?"

"You really want to play this game, huh? Fine, I'm Sarah. Nice to meet you"

"Sarah... Sarah..." Vance rubbed his chin. "Oh yeah. I think I remember you now. As I recall you couldn't get enough of me. It got pretty annoying honestly. Sorry, I didn't really recognize you. Have you put on some weight?"

"No, but I shed a big load of uselessness when I ditched you."

Vance's face turned a noticeable shade of red as he seemed to struggle to keep from frowning. "Whatever. I ain't got time for this bullshit. I'm pretty much a god now and you're beneath me. Now unless you want to throw me a bj for old time's sake, get the fuck out of my way. I'm hungry and I want some food." He turned and looked at the waitress Erma who was still sweeping up the mess on the floor. "Hey you! Do you work here? Go bring me some chow. And step on it. Chop chop!"

"I'll be with you in a moment, sir," Erma said as she swept another pile of cartoon moons and stars into her dustpan.

"I don't think you understand me, lady. I said I'm hungry, so you need to do your fucking job and fetch me some food right now. I can make things mighty unpleasant around here. Don't believe me? Watch this." He turned and shot a bolt of electricity from his fingers. It hit the jukebox in the corner which instantly exploded, causing the background music to come to an abrupt stop. The silence that descended on the room was palpable.

"Oh great, mister," Erma said. "Now I've got to go clean up another mess. I'm never going to get off my shift at this rate. Thanks a lot."

"It's not my problem you've got a shitty job," Vance sneered. "You can clean that up later. Now bring me some grub right now. I'm not going to say it again."

"Did you say you want some grubs?" Esther asked. "You can have some of ours. There's way too much here and we can't possibly finish it. It would be a shame to let them go to waste. Help yourself."

Vance walked over to the table and looked in the bucket. "What the fuck? That shit's nasty." He grabbed the bucket and slammed it onto the floor, splattering grubs everywhere. "Oh look, there's another mess you can clean up later. Now you'd better get your ass in gear and get something tasty out of that kitchen or it's going to be you that someone needs to mop off the floor."

Erma dropped her broom and hustled back into the kitchen without a word.

"All right then," Vance said as he cracked his knuckles. "Anyone else here feel like mouthing off to me or doing something stupid? Because I've got an itchy zapping finger so bring it on." He turned and looked at Danielle who was staring at him with open loathing. "You got something you want to say, lady?"

"I was just wondering to myself how small your penis is," Danielle said. "I bet it's pretty tiny. You've definitely got that little dick energy about you."

The corners of Vance's mouth turned downward and his face turned an even darker shade of red. "You're going to regret saying that, bitch."

*

The dandelion riding on Danielle's pant leg didn't know who Vance was or what he wanted, but once again, it knew a threat when it saw one. It pulled out its laser gun and fired multiple times.

*

Vance had no idea the dandelion was even there, but the purple light riding around inside him sensed the oncoming attack and took control of Vance's body. It whirled his hands around so quickly they were barely a blur. It created energy fields that blocked the incoming laser beams and sent them pinging away harmlessly.

*

The dandelion riding on Danielle's pant leg was surprised to see the large ugly oaf was still standing. Undeterred, it took careful aim with the laser gun and fired again.

*

Once again Vance's hands spun around and created an energy field which blocked the laser beam from hitting him. As soon as he blocked one attack another quickly followed and he was forced to stay on the defensive. He leaped onto the tabletop, ducked his head, and continued to whirl his hands.

Sarah had no idea what was causing Vance to be distracted, but she recognized the opportunity. She grabbed Danielle's hand and pulled her towards the exit. "That was awesome what you said to him, but I've seen what he can do. I think we should get out of here while we can."

"As much as I'd like to see this creep get what's coming to him, you're probably right. What do you suppose is making him wave his hands around like that?"

"No idea, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Let's get out of here and take Pauline and Maurice back to my uncle's lab so they can be switched back to their own bodies."

"I think we can provide a bit of extra distraction while you make your escape," Esther said. "Come on, ladies! Chicken swarm!"

The chickens leaped at Vance as they squawked loudly and started pecking at his head and face. He still had to fend off laser beam attacks from the dandelion so he wasn't able to keep the chickens away.

"Be careful," Sarah called out to the chickens over her shoulder as she led Danielle, Pauline, and Maurice to the exit.

They didn't even know the dandelion was there, but it kept firing at Vance all the way out the door.

"We made it outside," Sarah said. "I don't think he's going to stay distracted forever. We'd better put some distance between us."

"I agree," Maurice piped up. "I think we should run."

They made it about a block before Sweaty Jim's Dinery-O-Rama exploded behind them in a giant fireball.
