Luke Rhodes, Part 2: The Attraction
"Welcome back to The Indy files! When we left off last time, Luke Rhodes had climbed the mountain to the top of TNA... but could he remain there is the question?" The lovely host, Deonna Purrazzo, asked the viewers at home.
Luke sat across from Deonna, next to an empty chair where the guests usually sat.
"Let's talk TNA world title defenses. After 5 Reigns as X Division champ, the first four all lasting 8 months or longer each, what was your mindset going into your first title defense?"
"My first defense was literally nights later against Ethan Carter III. Uh, I'm pretty sure I beat em in like 8 minutes? It was a gateway match or something he wanted next in line for mister Mattitude's title, but I kinda f**ked em over... oh sh*t, am I allowed to curse?" "We censor it." "Thank f**k." Luke sighs with relief. Deonna didn't look pleased. "Still, watch your f**king mouth!"
Luke rolls his eyes. "God D*mn it. F**k me, Censoring B**ch." Deonna muttered, "F**kwit." Under her breath before getting back on script.
"Your next few defenses. Austin Aries twice, Matt Hardy once, Drew Galloway. Of course known better as Drew McIntyre. That match must've been amazing!"
"It was. Ended with a Powerbomb through a stack of chairs."
"After that it says Lashley THREE TIMES?! I've barely ever met someone who's bested Lashley more than Once or twice!"
"I scouted all his big moves. The first time, I rolled em up off a Dominator attempt. Second time, I reversed his full Nelson into a Pin combination. Third time, Definitive 3 straught Rhodeside bombs to keep em down."
"After that, was-" but Luke cut her off.
"Some Bullshit lackluster feud with EC3. Dixie Carter insisted."
"And then that brings us to day 414. Bound For Glory. Last Man Standing, against now fellow WWE wrestler Ethan Bourne. Take us through that moment when you first stepped in the ring with Ethan."
"Ethan's a different breed. I mean, kid has striking skill, a mean submission game, Aerial moves for days... what doesn't he have? And this was even back then. Kid learned from his cousin, Christian Cage. Of course he was one of the bigger threats to my title at the time. Not to mention, We had Rob Van Dam as guest referee for the match."
"With that, let's watch the match back in its entirety!" Deonna says enthusiasticly. Luke rolls his eyes. "Like I ever need to remember Transitional moments?" He says with a hint of Sarcasm, but Deonna discouraged this by telling him they could take the time to get his thoughts on the match and especially the big spots.
"So Ethan and I... Well it was hard running this as a credible Face vs Face feud. Especially with me scheduled to take time off soon after, It was always gonna be a tall task to end the reign on a high note..." Luke explained as the entrances occurred.
Ethan and Luke shook hands in the ring before their match began. The bell rang, and immediately, Ethan went for a big kick but Luke catches the leg and performs a dragon screw. Ethan rolls over and gets back to his feet. Ethan said something the camera audio didn't pick up.
Deonna turns to Luke, who she now sat next to. "What did he say to you right there?" She asks. Luke barely hesitates. "It was an in-character line that wasn't really planned. I just told 'Em to stay in character, meaning treat me like a Jackass Veteran of a Wrestler and that's what he did. His exact words were, 'Wanna get Technical on me, Ol' Timer?', because his whole deal was, again, seeing me as some grumpy older jackass."
Back in the match, Luke and Ethan both traded punches, with Luke getting an early edge, Clotheslining Ethan over the top rope and to the floor. Luke ran off the ropes, as if about to do a suicide dive, but then stopped, as Ethan had rolled under the ring. Luke huffed, then slid out of the ring, but walked right into a knee to the gut by Bourne! Ethan whipped Luke against the Barricade, then tried to hit a running knee, but Luke dodged, causing Ethan's shin to collide with the barricade! Luke grabbed Ethan in a rear waistlock as he stumbled backwards, German suplexing him on the floor! Ethan grimaced as he reached for his lower back. Luke reached under the ring, pulling out a trash can full of kendo sticks and even a Hockey stick or two.
"What was the trash can for?" Deonna asks. Luke chuckles. "You'll see. Can't tell you every detail." Deonna rolls her eyes in response.
Ethan stood on the outside, meanwhile Luke had thrown a pair of steel chairs into the ring. He slid into the ring, then Ran at the ropes, towards Ethan, only to springboard off the middle rope, backflip, and land on his feet in almost a superhero-esque pose. He grinned as he flipped his hair out of his eyes. Ethan, not to be outdone, jumped up to the apron, then flipped clean over the top rope and landed in a near identical position to Luke's. The crowd went nuts. The "THIS IS AWESOME!" Chants began. Ethan tried a quick slap to take Luke off guard, but Luke caught his hand. He reached and grabbed a Kendo Stick and whacked Ethan accross the back with it! Ethan attempted to grab the stick from Luke, but to his surprise, Luke tossed the stick towards Ethan as he picked up another one. The two circled each other. Both men then suddenly drop the Kendo sticks and Luke offers a hand to lock up. Ethan slaps it away, then strikes with an elbow followed by an uppercut. Ethan finished his combo of moves with a forearm smash that sent Luke staggering back, and as Luke stood against the ropes, Ethan rushed forward, but Luke lifts him up and over the ropes, only for Ethan to land on his feet and hit an Enziguri as Luke turned around. Ethan sprang onto the top rope, then attempted a Phenominal Forearm, only for Luke to catch the arm and wrestle Ethan down to the mat, locking in the Eye of the Scorpion Crossface! Ethan fought to try and break the hold! He was fighting, scratching, clawing to try and get to the ropes to assist him! The tap-out wouldn't matter anyways, it's last man standing! Luke eventually relinquished the hold, then slumped into the corner as Ref Van Dam began his count. RVD reached "Four!" Before Ethan staggered to his feet and stood, a smile on his face. He threw up a middle finger directed at Luke as RVD pulled a joint out of his pocket and lit it, knowing he didn't technically need to be there for any other reason than counting to ten when one of these two wasn't standing... so he lit one in the middle of the ring. (#Savage #RobVanDontGiveADam)
Deonna laughed when she saw the RVD joint spot. "What the actual hell was that?!" She said amidst her laughter. Luke shrugged. "He approached us backstage and asked if we didn't mind. Ethan and I didn't mind, He's a legend, he could do what he wanted and no one would bat an eye. The Match had no rules, so we said 'What the hell, why not?'."
Ethan and Luke both had slid out of the ring and now were back to Brawling on the Floor. Trading blows, neither man gaining an advantage, until Luke got caught in a side headlock, but then outmuscled Ethan, shoving him into the barricade again. Ethan released the hold, but Luke grabbed the upstart challenger by the waist and Belly-to-Belly Suplexed him on the ringside floor! Luke then went back to that trash can he had previously tossed into the ring... He emptied the contents, then waited for Bourne to get to his knees. Luke said, "SMILE, BITCH!" and swung the can down onto Ethan's head! Ethan didn't have the chance to fall over, as Luke then suddenly stepped back, then ran forward for a Shot of Jamison knee strike! Ethan was OUT, surely! Ref Van Dam began counting. "One!" Luke flipped his hair out of his eyes. "Two!" Rhodes grabbed onto the barricade and used it to help himself to his feet. "Three!" He was sure this meant a surprisingly early win. "Four!" Ethan had yet to even make a move, outside of a few twitches. "Five!" Van Dam kept counting. "Six!" ... "Seven!" ... "Eight!" ... "Ni-" But before Van Dam could finish saying "nine", Ethan suddenly tucked his legs back, then used momentum to Kip up!
Deonna was Speechless. Luke just laughed. "He asked if it was alright that he stopped selling the move just to do that spot. Naturally, I agreed. It was pretty f**king epic, as you can see."
Ethan looked under the ring as Luke was gathering his breath. The Toronto Native brought out a few black silk bags of unknown origins, the contents of which could've been ANYTHING! Ethan pulled out a Hockey puck. He chopped Luke in the chest with his free hand, then held the puck in Luke's face, then yelled, in perfect High Definition audio, Ethan's voice Screeched, "I WILL SHOVE THIS PUCK UP YO ASS!!!".
Deonna lost it with laughter. So much so, that she fell out of her seat and onto the floor. Luke broke his stern character for a moment, as he covered his mic and asked "You ok, Deo?" as he tried helping her back into her chair. They paused the match footage, and after about Five minutes, Deonna finally calmed down. She had at long last composed herself before she finally said something: "Sorry. Wasn't expecting that-" She was trying her hardest to not break out laughing again. "How did that not become a meme?!" Luke just shrugs as they resume the match.
Luke slaps the Hockey puck out of Ethan's hand, then shrugs as he stares right at the camera. Luke grabbed Bourne and hoisted him up for a Powerbomb, but Ethan fought out, attempting to Hurricanrana the Impact world champ, but Luke's strength was too much. He powered Ethan back up, then Powerbombed the challenger onto the Apron! Ethan flopped to the floor like a fish out of water, even doing a slight D-Von Dudley Convulsion to sell the move's impact. RVD had counted to Five before Ethan was back up on his feet. Ethan pulled out a number of Tables. Luke sort of stood by, wondering what this would lead to. Luke slid into the ring as Ethan set a table up at ringside, then slid two more into the ring. Luke caught Ethan with a Chair shot to the back as he tried to enter the ring. Luke proceeded to set the chair up in the corner between the ropes, then lifted Ethan, about to Irish whip him into the chair, but the challenger reversed, Whipping Luke shoulder first into the chair! Ethan takes the chance to set up a table in the ring, rolling Luke over to it, he sets the Champ on the table, then begins climbing to the top rope! However, Ethan took his sweet-ass time, acting cocky and arrogant. He didn't notice Luke had rolled off the table and was now standing on his own two feet. Ethan turned around, only to be shocked by seeing Luke standing there... and shocked literally because Luke had grabbed one of Ethan's Mystery bags, and in it was a small Stun-Gun. It wasn't too effective in terms of incapacitating Ethan, but it gave Luke the opening he needed to Ascend the ropes, setting up Ethan for something big! Luke stands on the top rope, Holding Ethan in Position for what seemed to be a Stalling Superplex, until Luke managed to leap from the Top rope, spinning himself and Bourne in the air, 180 degrees, and executing a picture perfect Sit-Out Falcon Arrow from the top rope, sending Bourne Crashing through the wood! Luke stood back up, avoiding the Ref's count effecting him. Van Dam began his count, but Luke had made up his mind; He was simply having too much fun for it all to stop now! He went out to the floor and grabbed the Puck that Ethan said he'd shove "Up Luke's Ass". Luke drags Ethan to the corner, where his legs were spread in a rather awkward position. Luke sets the Puck a good foot or two away from Ethan's crotch area... then Luke picks up one of the Hockey Sticks he introduced earlier. The crowd sees what's about to happen.
Anticipation builds as Luke grins, lining up the Slap-Shot of a lifetime! He Happy Gilmore style skips forward and smacks the puck with the stick, sending it at incredible speed right into the most sensitive area of Ethan's lowerbody. Bourne held his crotch while he writhed in pain as Luke went to see what other fun things Ethan had brought to the party. He found a bag of Legos, and under the ring, he found a steel grill cover. Luke shrugged. He also was given some more weapons by fans in the crowd. One fan provided a Crutch, while another brought a 2x4 Plank of wood (for some reason). Luke chucked these into the ring, but Ethan had slowly recovered by now. Luke turned right into a Superkick from Bourne, which made the champ rather dazed. Ethan, not satisfied with just one, goes for a Second superkick, only for Luke to duck it at the last second. Bourne wasn't expecting what came next; Luke powered him up and slammed him with a Spinebuster, right onto the bag of Legos! Ethan rolled to the outside floor, thus preventing RVD from even starting a 10 count. Ethan yells to the ring, "IS THIS SOME JOKE TO YOU?!" Luke shrugs and pulls his gloves off his hands. "You want serious, Kid? Come get it." He wanted to do this Bareknuckle style. Ethan rushed into the ring, and the two began hammering away at each other once more. Luke forced Ethan into a corner and began pounding away at Bourne's head without mercy. Soon, Ethan had blood pouring from his nose as a result. Ethan eventually managed to escape the corner when RVD thought Luke was shooting on Bourne and went to break it up. Luke, now in "Fight everyone" mode, accidentally wheeled around and whacked Rob Van Dam with a Brutal Back Elbow. Ref Van Dam crashed to the mat, rolling to a corner and stirring as the match continued.
Luke cracks his neck, not seeing Ethan had grabbed a steel chair! Ethan whacked him in the back, then proceeded to continue his assault by repeatedly hitting the champ with the chair until the steel was warped and bent. He had worn it out so much that the object could barely be called a chair anymore. Bourne took the hockey stick that was in the ring... Luke crawled to the center of the ring... Ethan took his own running start, but his Slap shot didn't involve a puck. His saw the stick making full blown contact with Luke's skull. The stick shattered upon contact, leaving splinters all over the ring! The side of Luke's head was busted open from the full force shot. Ethan triumphantly grinned, but then it dawned on him: The ref was still out of commission. Ethan figured the only way to win now was to continue his assault until the ref came to. Ethan set up another table against the corner of the ring, gloating to the fans and playing off the heat from the crowd. Luke had crawled to the ropes, struggling to a knee. He felt pain surge through his body, but a sudden rush of adrenaline made him think "to hell with it!", causing Luke to rush forward, only Ethan was expecting this, as he had made a quick 180 turn, and Instead of Luke spearing Bourne into next week, Ethan dodged out of the way! Luke crashed through the table!
Deonna cringed at the sight of the bloody, battered Luke taking a horrific bump through the table. Luke just nodded his head and said, "I speared the sh*t outta the Invisible Man, Though." Deonna shakes her head and playfully punches him in the arm. "I just can't with you!"
Ethan had gone to shake RVD. Van Dam finally began getting to his feet. When the world's Highest Referee finally got a hold on his senses, he began the count. To Ethan's shock, it only got to "Six!" before Luke rolled over, getting to a knee. Ethan yelled "NO!". The count reached "Seven!" and Luke defiantly stood. His icy glare sent shivers down Ethan's spine. The blood absolutely pouring down the left half of his face and dripping onto his chest, with some even dropping all the way to the mat only added to the aura of badassery that the champ was giving off. The crowd started a chant of "LUKE IS GONNA KIIILL YOU! LUKE IS GONNA KIIILL YOU!" Ethan tried to strike, but his forearm was caught by Rhodes. How Luke found it in himself to reverse anything at this stage in such a brutal match, we may never know. Ethan shoved Luke back, going for a running 'Rana, but Luke caught him and suddenly executes a Rhodeside bomb! (That's A Pop-Up Last Ride, for those who are unaware.) Luke crumples to a knee as the count begins. Van Dam counts, "One!" Each time the count was made, the People in attendance joined in. This had to be the finish... right?
"Two!" No movement from Bourne.
"Three!" Still nothing.
"Four!" Ethan has begun to roll over onto his stomach.
"Five!" Bourne is trying, and at the moment, failing to push his body weight off the mat. His body feels like it has an extra hundred and twenty pounds added...
"Six!" Bourne finds the ropes!
"Seven!" Ethan's up to a knee!
"Eight!" Bourne slips, back down to his backside!
"Nine!" Ethan grips the rope and attempts to make a last ditch effort to stand!
"Te-" But Ethan got to his feet at the very last possible moment! RVD originally said "TEN!" But then Waved it off immediately. Luke throws his head back and lets out a groan. He's seen mouthing "You're f*cking Kidding-". That's right. Somehow, Bourne, bloody nose and all, was still ready to fight. The challenger and champion once again met in the ring and exchanged sluggish forearm strikes. The two were beginning to tire. Luke attempted a vertical suplex, but Bourne lands on his feet and goes for a DDT, but Luke instead plants Ethan with a Northern Lights, but in a twist of cruel fate, Ethan suddenly slaps on a Dragon Sleeper! He's trying to put Rhodes to Sleep, but Luke flips his body backwards, causing Ethan to lose leverage and release the hold. Luke backs up, and Ethan kips up, only for Luke to try a Shot of Jamison one more time! Ethan hurdles Luke's knee strike attempt, and as Luke lands awkwardly on his left knee, he wobbles to his feet. Ethan felt like he was about to collapse, so he put everything he had into one last sequence: Ethan hits a Sweet Chin Music right as Luke stands back up, but then Superkicks Luke right in the back of the neck! He calls that Doubld Superkick combo the "Double Tap"! This time, Luke didn't go down. Ethan slumps to a knee after giving it his best move, but Luke's body had yet to react to the pain. Luke saw Ethan kneeling after his big move, and almost as if on Instict, nails Bourne with a Shot of Jamison! Both men collapse onto the mat. RVD doesn't know what to do, as he was told by backstage management that the match can't end in a No Contest or a Double 10-Count.
A solid minute passes, where the crowd's chants of "Fight Forever!" ring loudly. Luke and Ethan both somehow make it back to a vertical base. Luke is briefly seen mouthing "You good?" to Bourne, to which the challenger nods, then spits a little blood out of his mouth before responding verbally with "I can go all day!". Luke grins and the two once again lock up. This time, Ethan gets the upper hand with a double underhook suplex followed by a leaping Elbow drop, then a Meteora from the middle rope to a kneeling Rhodes. Van Dam didn't have time to count to one before Luke sat right up and applauded Ethan's offense before whirling to his feet. These men had seemingly infinate energy reserves! The match had gone on for more than 25 minutes at this point in time. Luke grabbed a steel chain from the steel steps, but was clocked by a right hand from Ethan before he got the chance to use it. Ethan took the chain. Luke knelt in the middle of the ring. Ethan took that same chain and repeatedly whipped Luke in the back with it. Soon, the tone became rather uncomfortable as welts formed on the back of the champion. However, Luke seemed to just be eating each and every one of them. He got to his feet as the chain kept slamming into his back. Ethan's eyes held a look of shocked bewilderment. This guy was insane! He seemed to be enjoying the immense physical punishment he was being subject to!
Deonna turns to Luke. "Why the actual hell would you agree to this?!" Luke nonchalantly responds with, "Iron sharpens Iron... No Pun intended. Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make an Omlette, Miss Purrazzo."
Luke had grabbed the chain, ripping it out of Bourne's hand. He threw it to the side, then kicked Ethan in the gut, setting up for the Comatose Piledriver, but Ethan sneakily connected on a kick to the left knee, which Luke had landed awkwardly on earlier. Luke's leg buckled, and Ethan was released from the hold. Luke stumbled into the corner before Ethan ran at him, but Luke launched himself off the bottom rope and speared Ethan's soul straight out of his body! Unluckily, Ethan rolled under the bottom rope and, in a genius move by Bourne, grabbed the bottom rope to maintain balance. Luke shook his head as he tried to stand, but he moved with a Limp. Bourne, once he could stand, grabbed one more mystery object from under the ring. Ethan rolled back into the ring, and Luke had gathered himself, trying to walk off the pain he felt in his knee. He attempted a third Shot of Jamison, but Ethan reverses, sending Rhodes into the middle rope. Ethan looks around him. He sees a chance to pay homage to a hero of his...
He makes a Phone gesture, bounces off the ropes opposite Luke, then swings between the ropes, feet connecting with Rhodes' Head! A 619 From Bourne! Ethan follows this up with an attempted Springboard Hurricanrana, but Luke ducked out of the way and Ethan landed, rolled through, and instead of getting turnt inside out by a Rhodes Clothesline, Ethan hit a Dropkick that staggered Luke enough to send him out to the Apron. Ethan saw his chance. He went to Ringside and grabbed one more table. He stacked that table right next to the one that had been set up so long ago in the match. Ethan used all the strength he had left to hoist Luke to the top rope. He climbed outside the ring, then to the top rope. Ethan grabbed Luke by both arms, maneuvering Luke's body... Wait, what was this?! This move looked like one used by his Cousin, Christian Cage! He was setting up for a- No, not from up there! Ethan lept with Luke hooked behind him, nailing a Killswitch through the Tables!!!
"HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!" The crowd chanted. Neither man moved an inch. Luke had busted his forehead wide open due to the table's impact on his skull. The Ref counted to "Six!" with neither man showing signs of moving. "Seven!" Van dam called out. Ethan began stirring. He felt his moment was now. "Eight!" Ethan hastily grabbed a chunk of table. "Nine!" Ethan used that chunk of table and thrust himself to his feet. Luke had barely started to even move. "TEN! RING THE BELL!" An uncomfortable silence washed over the crowd. Did... did that just happen?!
The silence was shattered by the announcement: "Here is your winner... AND... NEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW TNA IMPACT WOOOORLD CHAMPION... ETHAAAAAAAAAAAAN BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOURRRRRNE!"
Ethan could barely stand in the ring. The blood was drying under his nose. He was bruised. Battered. Beaten. Yet, he still stood... Champion at last. Luke had managed to be helped to his feet by RVD, who was concerned for the well-being of the now former Champion. Luke limped into the ring, climbing the steel steps. He stepped between the ropes. He mouthed something to Ethan before pointing at the title belt, then at Ethan's chest, and intensely telling him something.
Deonna looks to Luke. "What did you say there?" Luke bit his lower lip. "Uh... I'm not 100% sure. I was pretty out of it by then. That Killswitch spot gave me a minor concussion, actually. But reading my own lips there, what I apparently said was along the lines of, 'It's Your time, kid. That title meant the world to me. If you lose that damn thing, make them Pry it from your cold, dead hands. Good Sh*t, kid." And then we went for a Bro-hug, and then the big swerve." Deonna looked a tad surprised. "What swerve?"
Luke and Ethan 'Bro-hugged', and Bourne had his arm raised by Luke. Rhodes soon put Ethan's arm down and turned to leave the ring when Ethan struck him in the back of the neck with the Title belt! The crowd began unleashing NUCLEAR Boos on Ethan. Ethan firmly planted his foot on Luke's neck as he raised the IMPACT world title, as the footage faded to black.
"That was... Wow-" Deonna couldn't find any words to express the overall match. Luke summed it up pretty well. "Wrestling has a habit of creating matches that you can't describe using simple words or narritives. You have to just watch it to understand the emotion and drive behind the two men fighting. In this case, I'd say this' one of my favorite matches I've ever been a part of... Hence why we're reviewing it." He says the last bit with a chuckle.
"And now, it says we're moving onto-" Deonna stopped as she read the next scheduled match they were going to talk about. "I-I Should be well versed in this one, because I'm in the match." She says after clearing her throat and reassuming a more professional composure. Luke takes his sunglasses off. "I made a return to Impact when they announced they were doing this Collaboration with Shawn Michaels and NXT. A Mixed match challenge on NXT, where Impact talent would be welcome to join. They could team with other Impact talents or even with a friend in NXT. Sadly, though, the team of Nikki Cross and Killian Dain had to be pulled last minute, so Shawn called a woman he had been dying to get under WWE contract since she boosted her stock outside WWE: The Virtuosa Herself..." Luke was cut off when Deonna rather adorably snatched his sunglasses and the paper in front of him. "No script for you if you're stealing my lines-" Luke just shrugs. "And so, HBK called me up and asked if I wanted to work with a young, stellar talent in the Mixed match challenge. Being the nice guy I am, I agreed to it."
A card flashed across the screen after it faded from the two. It read:
"First round: Purrazzo/Rhodes vs Carmella/Amore"
"The First round match was nothing too impressive. It was mainly Me on the apron while Deonna refused to tag me in and was ready to fight Enzo on her own. Enzo was about to go all 'Equal Rights, Equal Fights', but then he swallowed a Shot'a Jamison, and after enough work from Deo, one Armbar was enough to cause Amore to rush the ring, but he got put in the Eye of the Scorpion. Both tapped. It wasn't too memorable. I'm pretty sure it even aired on 205 Live or something." Luke shrugged. An off-camera producer asked, "Well what about the two of you?" Luke looked slightly confused. "How do ya mean?" Laughter from the crew while Deonna chuckled behind her hand. "C'mon, there's obviously something more than just tagging in 'n out going on here!"
Luke looked around confused, before he was nudged by Purrazzo. "Ok, Ok, fine. Shawn approached us about an angle after our win. He suggested an Angle where Deonna & I slowly developed all these real good feels for each other and whatnot. I went along with it because hey, I mean why not."
Deonna jumped in. "Well, that was the plan... It was supposed to be storyline and nothing more. Nothing at all. But... I just felt like he had my back no matter what. Instead of letting my Virtuosa character through, I just felt like I could drop the acting when he's around. It's like this comfort pro wrestlers aren't used to. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world, personally."
A text card explained that Purrazzo and Rhodes went on to defeat the team of Tegan Nox and Tyler Bate, showing clips of the match, including moments where Deonna accidentally broke character when she ran into Luke and looked up at him for just a moment too long, with her hand positioned awful conveniently on his chest. She tagged out the next instant and hid on the ringside floor for a moment to re-gather herself. The two eventually won the match when Deonna busted out a new move: A Front Flip DDT that she apparently called "Master's Deathstroke". She pinned Tegan for the Three.
After a few more Tough rounds against the likes of Keith Lee and Mia Yim, Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green, and more...
They faced the formidable team of JD McDonagh and Alba Fyre in the finals. McDonagh hit Purrazzo with his Devil Inside Saito Suplex late in the match, which brought forth Luke's fury. He nailed JD with 4 straight "Shot of Jamison" moves, then Powerbombed him three times in a row. He finished the Irishman with his (at the time) Rarely used Claymore-like move, the Kirā Kick. He Emphatically pinned McDonagh, staring down Alba Fyre as she was about to try and break up the pin, but Luke's eyes had a blazing inferno behind them. Alba caught his gaze, and immediately froze. He would most likely exact revenge, so she decided to let JD get his comeuppance and save her own arse. Luke and Deonna were announced as the winners.
"What was it like, winning that Mixed match challenge?" The producer asked. Luke chuckled and smiled. "Honestly, never felt something like it before. I was a singles guy for the longest time. Felt weird having someone at my back who wasn't holding a knife. I kinda liked it. Kinda fitting how it all played out." He trailed off. The Producer then asked the hard hitting question to the person who would most likely give away the answer without even saying a word. "...Deonna, are you dating Luke Jamison?" Her face turned bright red, and she stood up and paced off camera. The production crew laughed. Luke rolls his eyes. "C'mon, guys. Give 'er a break." Luke says. "We'll take that as a 'Yes' then!" The Producer said with a smile that we couldn't see because, as I stated previously, he's OFF CAMERA.
"We'll be right back after these messages!" Luke said. The Producer chimed in, "Uh, Luke? This' a commercial free Special." Luke looked at the producer, then at the camera, then back to the producer, and back to the camera again. He stares right down the camera as it zooms on his face. The only word he says is "F*ck." as the shot cuts out.
The Production team took a lunch break. They'd have two more matches to review: One quicker review of a Fatal Fourway Ladder match, and one big In-Depth review of a match that happened at AEW: All Out. Find out in Luke's 3rd and final part, NEXT TIIIIME on...
