Chapter 4 - She's One Of Us Now

I whizzed around and was shocked to find a hoodie and leggings, just stood there. As if a body was in them.

I gasped.

"Er...you're Aqua Girl, right?" Rachael questioned, as her body slowly reappeared.

She had invisibility powers.

"Yes Rach, I'm Aqua Girl..." I murmured, staring at her with wide-eyes.

"Rach? How do you know my name? There's only one person that calls me that and that's..."

Shoot.

Without realising, I had just told Rachael who I was. She stepped forward slowly, and I didn't even move when she lifted her hands up and removed my mask from my face.

"Oh my God...Cass..." She whispered, gawking at me. It was at that moment the past month rolled into Rachael's head. She fell to her knees on the wet roof. I knelt down beside her as she began to tremble, looking at my mask in her hands.

"It's okay, Rach." I said, watching her. "Now you've got powers, we can get through this together and..."

"I've got fricking powers!" Rachael cried, interrupting me. She squeezed her eyes shut as I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her in for a hug.

"The initial shock will pass soon, and I can teach you the ways of being a superhero." I declared, as Rachael passed my mask back to me.

"But...what if..." Rach trailed off, as I readjusted my mask onto my face. She stood up and I followed suit.

"Look, Cass...I need time to think this all through..." Rach muttered, turning around and beginning to climb down the drainpipe. She gave me an apologetic look before her head dropped down below the roof. I turned around and just stood on her roof, watching the city lights infront of me.

That's when something, or rather someone caught my eye from a rooftop across Rachael's street.

"What the....?" I murmured to myself, taking off as quietly as I could and flying towards the rooftop. The figure was now waving. I crossed the street and smirked as I identified the face of the figure.

"Ace Pennyworth, what the hell are you doing on your rooftop at this time of night?" I asked, landing with a thump next to Ace, who was grinning.

"Well I could ask the same to you, Cascade Brown." He replied, raising an eyebrow.

"For the record, you know that's not my house, and I was helping, or rather, discovering, a new superhero." I replied, smirking at him in the darkness.

"A new superhero? From that house? You don't mean Rachael...do you?" Ace (aka Quicksilver) inquired, tilting his head.

"Yep. You know her?"

"She lives across the street from me, so of course I know her name." Ace retorted, snorting. I resisted the urge to kick him.

"Shut up."

"Anyway, what power has she got?"

"Invisibility." I sighed, leaning down and sitting on Ace's rooftop, not caring about the dampness. Ace sat down beside me. "But it's all a scare for her. She just left me on the rooftop to think things through."

"Don't worry, she'll come round. We all had that shock."

"Yeah..." I murmured, hugging my knees. "I just can't really believe she's one of us now..."

"How's the new suit?" Ace asked, changing the subject.

"Feels good. I haven't tried out any of the new features yet."

"You should give it a go sometime soon."

"Maybe..."

After about half an hour of sleepy chat with Ace, I waved goodbye and took off for home. I had school tomorrow, and it was now past midnight. I knew I'd be falling asleep in Calculus tomorrow. Soon, I was sneaking back through my window and locking it behind me. I quickly changed into my pyjamas and turned off the lights, sinking into my duvet and falling into a deep sleep...

Beep! Beep! Beep!

"Shut up!" I shouted, banging my alarm clock with my hand. That shut it up. I slowly opened my eyes and adjusted myself to the bright sunlight entering my room through my window. It felt like I only had 2 hours sleep, when I actually had about 6 and a half. Still, remnants of last night's sneak-out were scattered around my room in the form of my suit. My blue Converse were tied on my doorknob (what the hell?), my mask was on my window ledge, and my suit was crumpled on the floor. I imagined Velma murdering me for the bad treatment of my fairly expensive suit, and so I grabbed a clothing hanger from my wardrobe and shoved it on the hook, before hanging it in my wardrobe. I just hoped Mom wouldn't be moping around my room while I wasn't here or something.

"Cascade! It's 8 o'clock! You're going to be late!"

Shoot.
