Chapter 21 - Revolution
My body whizzed round to find the students of our year group cowering away from a dark figure in the middle of the room. The K-Pop had paused on the speakers, and I realised the scream had erupted from a girl on the floor, cowering under the figure's stare. I recognised her as a bratty girl from my Biology class, yet she looked entirely different now, with her eyes wide as she stared at whoever was standing above her.
"What is going on here?!" Ace's voice bellows through the silent room, with the disco lights still spinning. A minute ago, they added a fun effect to the room and the dancing. Now, they were ironic. A reminder of what this night was supposed to be. The figure slowly turns towards Ace, revealing his face.
"Jack? Is that you?" It was Jack Williams , dressed in a weird black cape.
"I never thought you'd remember me, Cascade. Considering how insignificant I was." He spat in reply, venom filling his voice. This wasn't the Jack Williams I knew. Ace glanced over at me in confusion, but I ignored him.
"What do you mean? What are you doing here, anyway?" I continued, causing Jack to chuckle menacingly. Whatever this boy was doing here, I was beginning to think it wasn't for the right reasons.
"I was beginning to think you'd never ask." Jack replied, smirking and slowly walking towards Ace and I, causing Ace to move infront of me protectively a little. "I'm sure you know I'm home-schooled now. Nobody to be bullied by, you see."
Oh boy.
"Jack, what..."
"Silence!" He snapped, causing the silent students around the dance hall to jump, before he calmly spoke again. "As I was saying, I'm home-schooled now. Thanks to the immature idiots at the school, I had to be taken out of the education system. So now I'm an outsider."
"I'm sure there's nothing wrong with being home-schooled, dude. You still haven't explained why you're here, causing this unnecessary commotion." Ace replied, a warning in his tone of voice causing me to wince. This wasn't going to end well. I had a gut feeling.
"I was just getting to that. You see, now that I'm an outsider I have more free time. And what better way to spend that free time than getting revenge on the people that put me in that position, ey?"
Yikes.
In the blink of an eye, Jack lifted his hand and a wisp of blue air was channelled towards Ace, I stepped forward, glancing up at Ace to find his normal ocean blue eyes were bright red.
"Jack, what did you do?"
"Ah, Cascade. Jack is in the past. The name's Hypno now."
"Y-you're not serious? What have you done?" I was getting exasperated, and Ace looked down at me with his demonic eyes.
"Your boyfriend is enhanced. I haven't done anything, I'm just helping." Before I could react, Ace lurched forward and held me up by my neck, causing an instant lack of oxygen in my lungs. Along with this, Hypno turned around, extending his hand and spreading a blue mist over the whole room. Students began screaming and cowering to the corners of the room, as the doors were still locked. Panicking, I clawed at Ace's strong grip as he glared at me with glowing eyes, refraining from using my powers as I wasn't wearing my goddamn suit. Suddenly he was knocked to the side, losing his grip on me so I landed clumsily on my feet.
"He's enhanced, Cass. Looks like brainwash from the way Ace is handling you now." Rach's voice instantly put me at ease as she spoke in my ear whilst invisible. I opened my mouth to reply, but was stopped by Ace returning to his feet begin to walk automatically towards me. "His brain has been programmed to kill you, I reckon. Try knocking him out or something, I'll take care of Jack."
Nodding, I stepped into action, hitching my dress up and kicking Ace's advancing arm to stop him strangling me again.
"C'mon Ace, snap out of it!" I willed him, mildly creeped out as he continued to fight me with a hazy aura. It was odd fighting him, and there was a nagging part of my conscience yelling at me to stop, but I had to somehow knock him out. Catching me off-guard, Ace lunged at me again, knocking me onto the floor. Behind me, I heard Rachael shouting at everyone to get back.
So much for undercover.
Ace ignored my comment and leaned down to punch me with force. I narrowly dodged his hard knuckles, scrambling to my feet.
"Ah, screw it!" Shouting loudly, I opened my palms and fired water at full force towards the speedster, instantly knocking him onto the hard wood of the dance floor. Along with the rush of water from my hands, my ears picked up on gasps and screams from the audience of students. Great. Well, at least now they will pay attention to me in the hallway, instead of barging me out of the way as if I'm as insignificant as a speck of dust on their shoe.
I stopped the projection of water and peered at Ace. Mission accomplished, he was down for the count, with no major physical damage apart from a few bruises that would most likely form in the morning.
"Cass, get those goddamn doors open!" Turning around, I found myself watching Rach fade in and out from invisibility, whilst distracting Hypno with a hand-to-hand combat fight. Obeying her orders, I sprinted over to the nearest door and yelled at everyone to get back. Outstretching my hands, I fired high-speed jets of water at the doors, and they surprisingly burst open, much to my relief.
"Everyone out!" I barked, hurrying students out of the room as they gawked at me, Rach, Hypno and a knocked-out Ace. This was surely too much for their tiny brains to handle. I noticed a few students with glowing red eyes, and was about to stop them from rushing out the room when Rachael yelped out from behind me.
"I'm comin', Rach!" I called, checking the majority of students were out of the room before running over to the fight, where Hypno and Rach were still intensely battling. I attacked Hypno from behind, using my full-force of water on his back to deter him away from Rachael, instead my water was contracted with his blue mist, causing me to strain to keep up the pressure. From behind the spray of water, I could make out Rachael still fighting physically, dipping in and out of invisibility, like she couldn't control her power.
"What do you even want from us, Jack?!" I yelled over the roar of water and fighting grunts.
"I don't want anything. I just need you to realise what's coming, dear Cascade." He replied, causing me to lose focus as I thought about his words.
"Huh?"
"Welcome to the revolution, Aqua Girl." I paused at his words, the water pressure slowly decreasing.
"Revolution? Like in Hamilton or Les Miserables?"
"Stop thinking about musicals and fight, you imbecile!" Rachael screamed, straining under the wisps of blue smoke slowly engulfing her.
Oh, right.
"Well, if there's a revolution, why didn't I get an invite?!" I retorted, before planting my feet firmer on the ground and firing back at the boy again. This seemed to anger him, unsurprisingly, as he roared out loudly and blue mist raced around the water, dancing nearer to me. Seeing what it had done to Ace, I didn't want to be affected, and launched myself into the air, being careful not to bump my head on the grand ceiling.
"Sir, put your hands in the air!" Suddenly, the blue mist halted and I looked down to find Jones and a dozen heavily-armed guards all aiming their daunting weapons at Hypno.
Damn, talk about making an entrance. He probably took note from all the 1990s spy films he's starred in.
Cautiously, I lowered myself to the floor as the men advanced on a very grumpy-looking Hypno. Jones let his gaze hover over me and Rachael before nodding, and the guards forced Hypno onto the floor.
"Get him in the vans, and use the powered cuffs." Jones commanded, as Hypno was dragged out of the room, muttering something about revolution and revenge. I made a mental note to talk to Rach and Ace about that later, after this mess was cleared up.
Ace!
I darted over to the boy who was still unconscious on the floor, landing on my knees by his body. Unsure of how to wake him, I gently raised my hand and squirted him with water. He instantly sat up, with a heaving chest and alert blue eyes.
"What happened? Did we kiss?" He asked, turning to face me.
"Uh, yeah. And something else happened." I replied, motioning to the damaged dance floor, with popped balloons, damp streamers and a solemn Jones talking to Rachael.
"Something? Has it finished? The fight?" I gazed at him before answering, biting my lip in worry.
"I think...it's only just begun."
A/N: point out if there's any typos guys, I wrote this in a rush as I had an idea but no notebook at hand to write it out with! Anyway, how are we all doing? And what do you think Cass means by 'it's only just begun'?
