Emergence
"Hey! Hey, kid." A strange man shouted and ran up to meet someone.
"I'm twenty-three."
"No, you're not. Whatever. What's your name?" He asked
"Zechariah." He answered.
"Gosh, so many Z's in this story." The strange man stated.
"What?"
"Oh nothing. Anyway, my name is The Storyteller." He declared.
"Well that's rather strange." Zechariah said.
"I have a thing for strange names. Just call me Teller."
"Nice to meet you? Teller. . ." He trailed off.
"I am interested in your stories."
"I'll probably never see you again. Where should I start, Stranger?"
"It's Teller. Anyway, I'm unique, so let's have a unique set up. Start from the beginning."
"Okay? Well then I was born--"
"No, the FAR beginning." Teller interrupted
"It all started with a battle. Starting off the emergence a generation before mine."
Back in the old days, when the emergence first began. Fire and Ice had both found their successors, but they had also found conflict. Forcing them to fight one another. Their battle raged high and low. Somehow the battle stayed contained within a certain area, an area with a viral outbreak happening just weeks before.
The outbreak caused many deaths. It ravaged the city and drastically lowered the population. No one really knows why the outbreak happened or why it never spreaded beyond the city. We only know the result, one fourth the population. Yet somehow, love still existed within the city walls. Hope existed there, only to be crushed when the battle came to them.
The battle nearly wiped out the city, only sparing three. A woman and two unborn twins, only created a few weeks before. During the battle, when many died and many disappeared, there was one fateful collision.
A woman stood and watched as a shockwave of fire and ice hit her body with tremendous force. Had it not been for the balance of elements, cancelling the extreme temperatures, the woman would have died immediately. She was also lucky that she was a fully developed adult. Her twins however, both nearly died on the spot. Both being undeveloped would have been killed, the mother never knowing she was pregnant, had it not been for the virus.
The virus had laid dormant in the cells of the mother and father, passed on to the children. The virus forced the developing twins to absorb the wave, one twin getting fire, one getting ice. Even so, they would have still died, unable to maintain homeostasis. But these twins had yet another stroke of luck. Having still just a few cells each, they merged and became one being, one child. A boy. As he developed, half his cells burned with heat, half his cells froze, cancelling out and creating a perfect homeostasis. A stable boy. The virus had saved the boy's life, cursing him. The battle however had indeed injured the mother. The boy came out into the world perfectly healthy, the mother died. So was born an orphan, one of the Impossible Men.
"What exactly are the qualifications for the 'Impossible Men.'"
"Ahh, the Impossible Men," Zechariah began, "They are the people who became beings that have special abilities and attributes from situations that were out of their control, situations that permanently alter their body and being. They are not very powerful like those who come out of The Emergence, but they are still capable of incredible things."
"So the child was the first of the Impossible Men.
"Yes, and after that emerged the second."
A boy was walking down the street one day. There was earlier a nuclear event in a town very far away. It never affected him, but the economics around his area was destroyed. Two more beings of the emergence, these two with names, came to the poor and broken town. Nexus, the superpowered mind, was rampaging through the ruined area for unknown reasons. In the rampage the boy's house was destroyed, leaving him orphaned as his parents failed to escape. Then arose the Sound Monger to stop the rampage. It was a huge battle, so long story short, the battle reached the position of the boy. Neither party saw him, he was nothing but an unintended consequence.
The power held within the two was thrown out at each other, colliding together in a power struggle. The boy was unfortunate. He was directly in the middle. Two things happened to him.
First: the power of the Sound Monger's vibrations destabilized the molecules of the boy, he would have vibrated apart if not for Nexus' power.
Second: the power of Nexus' mind would have destroyed the mind of the boy, but this time it saved his life. He would have been vibrated apart, but the power nexus gave kept the child together, spread the boy's mind through to every atom in him, and gave him an unconscious control, keeping him stable.
Thus was born, the second impossible man.
"Ahh, I see," Teller said, "that makes two. That means that to be one of the Impossible Men classifications, you don't have to be affected from or before birth."
"Yes." Zechariah conceded. "And there should be a third, but not much is known about him."
"Well, how do you know so much?"
"Anyway, the public never really does know who these men are, they could only give them titles and names. The first boys' town did manage to mysteriously recover, but the second's managed to stay poor."
"What did they call the second boy?" Teller questioned
"I'm not entirely sure." Zechariah thought for a moment. "The moving-- no no. The. . . the shaking something. I don't know, you'll just have to ask him yourself."
"Duly noted. Well then, Zechariah, do you know his official name?"
"Yes, indeed. His name is Zion Reigner."
"Where is he now?"
"I do not much care, because I do not know where he is or where he's going. He disappeared about a year ago. I myself am looking for someone of my own.
"Oh? And who might that be?"
"He is known as Entity Zero."
