Short 3: Wings of Happiness

One afternoon, Charlie is walking down the hall after finishing some paperwork and today's exercise. Just then, an unfamiliar melody and singing voice begins to reach Charlie's ears.

Song:

Honno sukoshi ijiwaru na

(There may have been the slightest bit of spite)

Confused, Charlie wonders, "Huh? Who's that? And where's that music coming from?"

Song:

denwa no kiri kata o shita no

(In the way that I hung up the phone on you)

Charlie looks down to hear the voice coming down the hall.

Charlie smiles, "The song is very nice," And decides to follow the voice.

Song:

datte kyuu ni shinken na

(But the way that your voice got so serious)

koe de hanashidasu no zurui

(All of a sudden when you spoke, was unfair)

Charlie walks down the hall to find the source of the voice, and it leads her to one of the rooms. She peeks inside to see Aurora singing as she rocks on the rocking chair with Tilla in her arms. She also notices that on the small furniture is a music box. The box is pink decorated with white angel feathers and has angel wings and a halo on the side, along with purple flower petals. Music comes out of the box as there is a little angel-like ballerina twirls on it.

Aurora:

'suki da yo' to iwase tai-n desho dakedo

('I love you' is what you want to make me say, isn't it?)

kikasete hagenai

(But I can't let you hear it yet.)

Charlie tries to lean close, but accidentally pushes the door open, making it creek.

Aurora stops singing and looks to see Charlie peeking into the room.

Sheepish, Charlie says, "Oh um, sorry about that. I heard some singing and it sounded beautiful."

Aurora blushes and says, "Thanks Charlie."

Tilla yawns and looks very tired.

She softly says, "Sleepy... very sleepy..."

"I know Tilla. It's time for your nap," Aurora says.

"If you don't mind me wondering, what was that song you were singing?" Charlie asks.

"It's a song my mother used to sing to me and my brothers and sisters. The song is called Shiawase no Hane, meaning Wings of Happiness," Aurora says.

Then turns to the music box, "She always signs the song with her old music box. My mom told me that dad gave it to her for their wedding anniversary. From what told me, she used to love that song a lot as a child, and still sings it as an adult to us. She passed it down to me on my eighth birthday."

She then sadden, "I always missed listening to her sing the song since she passed, but singing the song myself with her helps me to remind myself of her."

Charlie can see the sad expression on Aurora's face.

Charlie asks, "You miss your mom, huh."

"Yes. We all miss her when she died, especially dad," Aurora says.

Charlie sadly sighs, "I know how you feel. I miss my mom too. My mom has been gone for seven years. I don't know where she is, or if she's even known. I mean. Things were already difficult when my parents decided to split up, and I wasn't really that close with my dad like you were. And with my mom off doing something important, it's been just me and my dad."

"I'm really sorry to hear it," Aurora sadly says.

"It's okay. I have Vaggie now. I also have you guys, and everyone in the hotel, and even the hotel as well," Charlie says.

"I'm glad you feel better," Aurora says, "Even though I miss my mom, I still have dad, my brother and sisters, Sophie, and even you guys, new friends, and having new adventures and new experiences. I'm sure our mothers are both happy to know how much we're doing here."

"I think so too," Charlie says and shows a smile on her face.

Soon, Tilla begins to get fussy.

Aurora giggles and gently begins rocking on the rocking chair, "Sorry Tilla. You really want to sleep, huh."

Aurora turns to Charlie, "You wanna listen to the song?"

"Sure," Charlie says.

Aurora uses her magic to lift the music box, winds up the key, and places it back down as it begins to play the melody of the song. Soon, Aurora begins to sing the song as well.

Aurora:

Honno sukoshi ijiwaru na

(There may have been the slightest bit of spite)

denwa no kiri kata o shita no

(In the way that I hung up the phone on you)

Soon, Aurora's mind begins to flash back to the happier times in her family's lives.

Aurora:

datte kyuu ni shinken na

(But the way that your voice got so serious)

koe de hanashidasu no zurui

(All of a sudden when you spoke, was unfair)

'suki da yo' to iwase tai-n desho dakedo

Flashback:

In the family home, it happens back when Keenan was a little baby. Young Loona is holding baby Keenan in her arms, and bouncing the little guy as Blitz is sitting on the chair reading his book and watching the kids having some fun.

And holding Aurora when she's a child, is Crystal, Blitz's wife, and Aurora's mother, before she passed away.

Aurora:

('I love you' is what you want to make me say, isn't it?)

kikasete hagenai

(But I can't let you hear it yet.)

Crystal holds Aurora as she sings the very same song Aurora is singing now. Aurora happily smiles as she listens to her mother sing the very song Aurora is singing now along with the music box being played nearby.

Flashback Ends:

Aurora:

fuwari shiawase no hane

(Lightly, these wings of happiness)

kokoro no ue ni mayomitekita

(Dance down from up above, and alight upon my heart)

Aurora continues singing the song as Charlie watches with a smile.

Aurora:

yawaratakute atatakai yasashisa ni

(I want to take this feeling from being enfolded)

tsutsumareteru kimochi o

(In their sort, I warm kindness)

Dakishimetakute

( And hold it close to me)

Soon, Aurora stops rocking on the rocking chair, stands up and begins to walk to Tilla's bed. The little Tilla is fast asleep in her arms.

Aurora:

itsuka furimuki nagara

(And someday, when we're casting our gaze back)

kyou no futari o omoidasu kana

(Perhaps we'll remember how we were this day)

Aurora then lies Tilla down on her bed and tucks her in.

Aurora:

sonno toki made kono hane o hanasanai

(Until that day arrives, I'm not gonna let these wings go)

onaji kimochi de iru yo

(I want to keep on feeling this)

zutto konomama

(The same way forever)

And then Aurora gives her a gentle kiss on Tilla's forehead. Little Tilla yawns once more before falling fast asleep and is now sleeping peacefully.

Charlie and Aurora decide to take their leave from the room, and Aurora closes the door behind her. Tilla continues sleeping happily and dreams the song in her mind, and her heart.
