Chapter Six - Equal & Opposite Reaction
From the Journal of Oren
"When I assembled the various leaders of the Rebel Factions to form the Alliance To Restore The Kingdoms, I had hoped that we would be united under the banner of ending the Imperium's tyranny and bringing peace to Remnant. But it's become clear that the Alliance is divided within. Various factions loathe each other, threatening to destroy the Alliance from within. I can tell that the task of fighting the Imperium will be a difficult one. But I will not....cannot give up. Too much is at stake."
At an unknown location, Oren assembles the leaders of the various Rebel Cells that make up the ARK to discuss the impact on the attack of the Imperium Training Academy.
Oren: Elder Carmine. High Leader Alba. Admiral Lanius. Coco Adel. Ebon. Steel Guerva. Commissarius Broga. Father Topaz. Thank you for meeting me here today. I wish it were under better circumstances.
Coco: You could say that again....
Oren: Steel, have you seen the reports?
Steel: I have, Oren. They're afraid.
Coco: Killing those students turned the people against us!
Steel: That Academy was training future soldiers of the Imperium. If I didn't kill them, then they would've been trained as Imperium soldiers.
Broga: They could've been recruited into our cause.
Lanius: And how do we know we can trust you, "Commissarius"? You claim to fight the Imperium, yet you maintain your rank.
Broga: I fought for the Imperium, but I didn't sign up to slaughter innocents.
Ebon: How heartwarming. Where was this sentiment when the Imperium sacked Vacuo?
As the leaders of the Alliance began to bicker among themselves, Oren spoke up.
Oren: Enough! I did not form this Alliance so that we may bicker amongst ourselves! We all stand united against one enemy: The Imperium Of Faunus. Emperor Adam Taurus. We will bring the world as it once was. Only when we are united as one, can we topple the Imperium. If we are to end the regime of Adam Taurus, then we must remain united.
Steel: Forgive me if I don't exactly trust our Faunus "friends".
Broga: We no longer fight for the Imperium. We are the Marauders. We fought in the name of the Faunus, but at the cost of innocent lives. Now we're trying to make things right.
Topaz: Yet you still fought for the Imperium. I remember the Sacking of Menagerie. Ghira Belladonna had a vision. So does Blake Belladonna, until Adam Taurus extinguished that vision from existence. For we, the Templars of Belladonna, keeps the beliefs of Blake Belladonna alive!
Carmine: The Children of Menagerie are survivors of Adam's glassing of our home. We fight for our survival. Our continued existence. The ruins of Menagerie are a reminder of Ghira's failure to protect our home. His accursed daughter brought this death and destruction on us, it's their fault.
Lanius: And what of the Khan Loyalists? They fly the banner of the White Fang, an organization Adam Taurus led.
Alba: Adam Taurus is a traitor, liar and deceiver. Sienna Khan is the true leader, but he killed her in cold blood and placed the blame on someone else. We fight in her name, for we will bring Sienna Khan's vision to fruition!
Steel: That doesn't mean I won't be keeping a close eye on you animals....
Coco: Watch it, Guerva! The woman I loved was a Faunus.
At this point, the conflict between the Human and Faunus Rebel Leaders threatened to destroy the Alliance from within. It was at this moment that Oren spoke up.
Oren: This bickering is pointless! Alone, none of us have the power to take on the Imperium, let alone topple it. It is those divisions that allowed the Imperium to conquer Remnant. Only when we are united can we end the tyranny of the Imperium.
At this point, the leaders of the various Rebel cells fell silent.
Oren: The attack on the Imperium Training Academy was a....less than ideal setback. But I believe we can win back support for our cause. We will wait until the time is right. In the meantime, prepares your forces.
With that, the meeting ended. While the leaders remained united for the time being, it was a fragile peace.
Coco: Do you really think we can keep this Alliance together?
Oren: We have no choice, Miss Adel. The others know what's at stake. Even with their personal animosity for one another, they'll at least put aside their differences until the Imperium is toppled.
Coco: And after that? I doubt the Argus Partisans or the Desert Reapers will be too keen on working with the Marauders. Or the Templars of Belladonna with the Khan Loyalists. Or even the Atlas Remnant with the Children of Menagerie.
Oren: We'll cross that road when we get there. For now, we must focus on the Imperium.
Coco: Well whatever happens, you can count on the Vale Hardliners.
With that, Coco left the building to prepare for the next attack, leaving Oren to ponder his next move.
"The animosity between the other faction leaders continues to plague the Alliance. But for now, their mutual hatred for the Imperium is the only thing uniting the Alliance. But I fear that once the Imperium is toppled, those same divisions that plague the Alliance now will undo all that we have done. Not since the days before the Great War has divisons plagued Remnant. But that will be dealt with when the time comes. And with Salem gone, perhaps I can finally unity the world in peace, unity and serenity just as I did in the Great War. But only time will tell."
