Live Again

She was unconscious for three days, and Henry began to worry that maybe he had done it wrong, or that it didn't work. He began to think the worst, he began to believe she wouldn't come back to him, that she was truly dead, that she would never live again.

After the third day, she began to have a fever, and night terrors. Henry kept a cool, damp cloth on her forehead and held her through the night terrors as she thrashed and screamed in pain. Once her claws began to come in and the vampirism take over, holding her down became harder, and she managed to scratch Henry a few times, it healed after a short while though.

Once they stopped, she was still again, and Henry could rest. The night terrors would get worse over the next couple of days, but then she should awaken. Henry only hoped the people in the town never heard any of the screams, but luckily Emelia's family home was tucked away in the woods and a bit away from the town. He was surprised Charlie never came searching for her, he was also surprised Charlie hadn't killed him yet. And Abe hadn't sent word to them, Abe...what would he say about this?

Abe would have Henry's head on a plaque for turning the woman he saw a sister. They would try to keep it secret for a while. They would have to travel by night for quite a long time though. Henry had heard of vampires that force themselves in the sun and they become used to it, perhaps he could help her so when they did meet up with Abe that she wouldn't need to hide or stay in the shadows.

Henry sat in the chair thinking over everything, his head began to hurt and his eyes were red, partly from not sleeping much, and partly from crying, which usually a vampire can't do. It hurt to see the love of his life hurting this much, though she would hurt much more when she had to feed her first time, that's never pleasant.

There's so much he needs to tell her, to teach her. How to control her hunger, how to fight, how to read people's minds. That's always tough, especially with excelerated hearing and vision, sounds would hurt in the beginning, her scent would be heightened. She would never bear children.

He heard her whimpers begin once again, and she began to move and scream. Henry shot up from his seat and held her arms and body to the bed, so she wouldn't hurt herself. He saw her fangs protrude from her mouth and her claws extend from her fingers, she screamed in pain and thrashed harder and harder. She managed to strike Henry across the face, leaving four long scratches from below his right eye to the left corner of his face.

He held her until she stopped and changed her cloth again, dabbing the sweat off her exposed collarbone and forehead. He stood over her for a moment, his fingers grazing the scratches on his face, they would take a couple days to heal they were so deep.

He sighed and sat down, deciding to rest his eyes for just a moment. He closed his deep brown eyes and fell asleep. Drifting off into a dreamless slumber, until he heard a knock at the door, he jolted awake and went to see who it was. He cautiously opened the door, it was Charlie.

"Charlie?" Henry asked, "Is Emelia here? We were supposed to meet up for drinks a few days ago but I figured you guys were maybe busy." He stated, "Oh, Emelia is actually sick at the moment, she caught a nasty cold or something so she's bed ridden, but she should be better in a couple days." replied Henry. "Oh dear, are you sure it's only a cold? Does she need a doctor?" asked Charlie, "No, no. She'll be okay, I've been around long enough so I'm sure i can take care of her, thank you." Henry said with a nod and fake smile.

Charlie stood a moment, but agreed that Henry would take good care of her, "If you need anything, I'm always at the Church, I'll be praying for her health and a quick recovery." He stated with a smile, Henry thanked him and bid him goodbye. Closing and locking the door behind him, Henry started a fire in the fireplace and made himself some coffee, he walked back to Emelia's room, and she was sat upright on her bed. Henry dropped the mug, it shattered on the wood floor.

"Emelia?" He asked and knelt in front of her, "H-Henry...?" She stuttered, her eyes watering, Henry smiled for the first time in a week and hugged her as tight as he could. "I'm so glad you're awake, my love, I wasn't sure if it would work." He said into her hair and he allowed a few stray tears fall from his eyes, he pulled away, keeping his hands on her shoulders, he looked into her dark eyes. "Henry, I fell from that cliff, I...died..." He said shakily.

Henry frowned and looked away from her eyes, "Henry, what did you do?" She asked sternly, he locked eyes with her again. "I brought you back." He whispered, "Why?" She breathed out. "I couldn't let another one die, Emelia, I've seen too many lovers grow old and die or leave me in fear, but you never left me in fear of what I am, you stayed by me, you could have killed me that day when we met, but you didn't! You let me live because deep down you knew I wasn't like the others, you saw the good in me no other person, aside from Abe, had seen. We were meant to be together my love, and I see that now, it's your purpose, our purpose." He spoke.

She looked away for a moment, "So you turned me?" She asked, "Yes, and there's so much to go over about this but it can wait a while. Why don't we go sit by the fire?" He suggested, she nodded and walked with him, the light from the fire hurt her eyes for a moment but she adjusted quickly, much to Henry's surprise.

They sat beside each other in the armchairs, "Emelia?" Henry asked, taking her hands in his, she looked at him with a questioning look, "Before I met you I was never afraid, I had nothing to live for, I was cursed to suffer all eternity on this earth until someone killed me. But that day when those vampires from the Union came, I was horrified, and they knew it, you're my weakness." He began, Emelia looked hurt for a moment, "But you're also my strength now, if I had lost you, if I had let you die, I wouldn't have been the same, I have something to live for now, and so do you. We can spend our eternity together." Emelia smiled weakly at him, her eyes scanning his face.

"I love you Emelia, and I can't lose you. You have no idea how scared i was, I thought I had lost you forever-" "I know how that feels." She cut him off, "When we were fighting that while ago, I thought I had lost my best friend, and the only man I had ever had feelings for, it made me reckless when I thought you would never come back." She said, and leaned forward. "I love you too, Henry. I would love to spend eternity with you." She spoke truthfully and leaned into capture his lips in a meaningful kiss.

Henry smiled into kiss and wrapped his arms around her, Emelia placed her on either side of his face. They pulled away, and she noted the scars on his face, "Did I do that?" She asked, tracing them, "Yes, but they'll fade in a day or so. One of the perks of being a vampire." He replied and pecked her lips again.

"So, how does all this work?" She asked, "How long do I have to stay inside?" "Well, if we expose you to small amounts of sun at a time, you should be able to go outside fully in a month, but carry an umbrella, and you'll always need sunglasses from now on." He began to explain.

Henry went on to explain everything from the mind-reading and heightened senses, to speed and strength and how to control it all. When the sun fell over the horizon, he took her outside to show her how to control the speed and strength. She learned quick.

He taught her a few fighting tricks, and she managed to beat his twice.

"What about Abe? What will he say about this?" She asked, concern taking over hear features. "We'll hide it as well as we can, but after a while he'll figure it out, although he is newer to all this." He replied. Emelia nodded, and felt her stomach growl. Henry frowned, this was going to be hard.

"And I suppose I need to kill to live now, huh?" She asked, sadness laced in her voice. "I'm afraid so, but I'll show you how and be by your side every step of the way, my love." He told her. She nodded, they couldn't kill here, she knew all these people and they were all good people. She left a note on the door of the Church, apologizing to Charlie, and saying she would be back again soon enough for those drinks and to explain everything.

The two vampires mounted their horses and rode into a neighboring town about twenty miles away, they searched for someone who seemed bad, anyone wicked. They came across a man who seemed to be drunk, Emelia read his mind, though it hurt she could make out that he was angry with someone, his wife. She could sense that he was abusive. Henry nodded at her, and they stalked him down an alley, and she grabbed him and held his head back, her fangs protruding and her claws growing, her eyes going from their usual deep brown to pitch black. She struck her fangs into the vain in his neck and covered his mouth as he struggled.

She drank until he was empty and she was full, she let him drop, and wiped away her tears before Henry could see. She went back to normal, minus the blood on her chin and chest. Henry placed a hand on her shoulder, and she turned into his chest and hugged him. "It gets easier, I promise my love." He cooed and took her by the hands, and led her to wash up.

She cleaned herself, Henry watching for people, but he also couldn't help himself from looking back at her, her shirt hanging, her bare back to him. He felt his blood rushing and quickly looked away, and allowed her to finish cleaning the blood from her skin.

She looked back at Henry, and he forgot for a moment she probably heard his thoughts. They found an old barn in the woods and stayed there for the time being. There was a pile of straw and Henry padded it down for a bed, and found an old blanket in a cupboard, and laid it out. They laid on the make-shift bed and Emelia turned to Henry, he smiled at her, and she leaned to kiss him. "Thank you, for allowing me a second chance." She whispered, "I wouldn't have dreamt of letting you die, love." He replied.

"I honestly don't think there's any way to repay you, or thank you enough for giving me my life back." said Emelia, Henry smiled lovingly, "Just you being alive in payment enough, just being able to love you means more than anything." he replied softly. This time he leaned to kiss her, Emelia decided now was as good a time as any, and deepened the kiss and straddled Henry's hips.

"I heard your thoughts earlier, Sturges, you've got a nasty mind." She said, "I could say the same about you." He replied, flipping her over.

Needless to say they didn't sleep too much in that old barn.
