Chapter 37 ~ Vampires in Outer Space

The journey was safe and thrilling, to say the least. People took turns looking out the window, seeing space for the first time. The most terrifying sight was seeing their own planet disappear the farther the distance, watching as they went further into space.

"It's so empty," Blaise said fearfully. "It's cold and black. It just feels so bleak and silent."

Iérti was fascinated by the stars and the occasional galaxy they saw from afar. Mallen was enchanted with its beauty, his initial fear turning into excitement. Vampires had never ventured into outer space until now; it was an experience unlike any other.

"Which planet should we land on?" Corden asked as they looked at the screen together in the cockpit. Corden was seated in the pilot's chair while Iérti was standing beside him. "I've compiled a list of planets that are able to sustain life. All these planets are in different dimensions." He pulled up the list, the screen showing planets in each of the five dimensions.

Dimension one had planets Iredescent, Maximai Rullshit, Voldvell, Chatt-ruin, Mijoria, Haerreop, Dusaro, Tralsveronica, Torra, and Alaskis. All had breathable air and plant life.

Dimension two did not have any planets that could sustain human life. It was too dangerous not only for humans but also for vampires.

Dimension three had planets Kasoka, Luena, Magarra, Wiss, Gikiro, Piscalelca, Ghatom, and Mijishin.

Dimension four was the dimension vampires came from. The only planets able to sustain life in that dimension were planets Verdamnt, Monshalow, and Natvolo.

Dimension five only had one planet that sustained life: planet Earth. The other planets were either gas giants or had poisonous atmospheres like those in dimension two.

"Dimensions one and three look the most promising," said Iérti. "Are we able to communicate with those of other ships and find out where they've landed?"

"Yes," said Corden, pulling up the ship log. "Most of the other ships landed on planets Monshalow and Natvolo. Two landed on planet Ghatom and seven landed on planet Mijoria. Only one landed on Earth, probably because they want to be as far away from our dimension as possible. We know nothing much about these planets other than they're able to sustain life for humans, making it sustainable for vampires as well."

Benjamin approached them with Sophia and Daniel gathering on either side of Iérti and Corden.

"How about we stop at each planet and see where each one of us would like to live?" Benjamin suggested. "We'll have to stop for fuel anyway. These ships are powered by a certain energy derived from the sun. I know you vampires hate sunlight, but it's essential for human life. We ought to find a planet with ample sunlight to unload some passengers and refuel the ship."

Iérti looked at the map on the screen, going over each individual planet. "Iredescent has two moons and one sun. It's a beautiful, sparkly planet. It has breathable air and plant life, but I don't detect human lifeforms on it. I don't know about a planet called Maximescent.

"Voldvell appears to be a forest planet with plenty of sunlight and there are human lifeforms found on that planet. I think we can make a stop there. Chatt-ruin is mostly glow-in-the-dark with different lifeforms that look human but aren't human.

"Mijoria seems a promising planet with the entire planet as populated with humans as planet Earth; we'll stop there next since it's closer. Haerreop has plenty of sunlight as well, since it appears most of the planet is comprised of flora and fauna. However, I don't detect human lifeforms on that planet.

"You can hear music from Dusaro even from outer space. It would be sensitive to our advanced hearing, so Dusaro is a no. Torra and Alaskis seem like two extremes, and I don't want to put our people through any further extremes than they've endured. We'll start heading for dimension one and make landings on planets Voldvell and Mijoria."

"Are there gonna be castles on those planets?" Sophia asked.

Iérti chuckled. "I hope so. I've never seen another planet before."

"Neither have I," said Mallen, seemingly from out of nowhere. Corden jumped; he hadn't heard Mallen approach. Vampires usually walked silently and humans could not hear one coming unless they were running. "This will give us a chance to explore what's out there."

Sophia looked up at Mallen, not afraid of him. "If that planet doesn't have any castles, could you build me a castle?" she asked in a demanding tone.

Benjamin's eyes widened slightly at his daughter's bold request. Few humans dared to make such requests to vampires, especially powerful ones like Mallen and Iérti. Though things have changed since Iérti's rule, people were still cautious and wary, especially of Mallen.

Benjamin, Corden, Iérti, Sophia, and Daniel all looked to see what Mallen would say.

Mallen smiled at Sophia. "I would be happy to build you a castle," he told her. "After all, a princess has to have a castle. If you go to your room and open the pink bundle I've given to your father, you'll see I made some princess dresses for you."

Mallen turned to Daniel. "I've given my saddle and gear to you in the red bundle. I saw you riding my horse Iulia and noticed your love for horses, so I decided to gift you my own saddle and gear."

Daniel was speechless. Sophia exclaimed happily and ran to her room. Benjamin stared at Mallen in astonishment, completely taken away by his generosity.

Sophia came back into the cockpit with an armful of dresses in various colors and material. She showed them to everyone and hugged Mallen, thanking him before running back to her room to admire them, Daniel following her to open the red bundle Mallen had given him.

Benjamin turned to Mallen, seeing he indeed had Iérti's kindness, as well as a generous heart he always had. He even called my daughter a princess and took the time to make pretty dresses for her.

"I can't thank you enough, Mallen," Benjamin said, surprised. "You've done a lot for my children."

Mallen slightly bowed, saying, "It is my pleasure, Benjamin."

Subconsciously, Mallen knew it was his way of trying to make up for what he did in the past, for all the cruel acts he committed. He not only took the time to make clothing for all the people but he also gave them blankets, pillows, and other things from his own castle.

Mallen passed the time in the ship by reading books and working on creating new clothing styles, drawing sketches and selecting colors and material for his next project. He loved to make clothing and fulfilled every request people made regarding what sort of clothing they wanted. It made him happy to see people wearing stylish clothes he made for them, to see his clothing designs appear from paper pages to real life.

He was currently working on a new vest for Benjamin when Iérti came into his room. "We landed on planet Voldvell," he said excitedly, his eyes beaming.

Mallen carefully set the clothing material and sewing needle on the bed and went to see a foreign planet for the first time. Silently thankful it was nighttime rather than daylight, Mallen looked out the window in awe of the forest-covered landscape.

When the ship entrance door opened, Mallen and Iérti took in the fresh scent of pine trees with balsam and evergreen. The air was crisp, cool, and invigorating. The sky was clear with a few misty areas in the distance. It was a very silent, very peaceful landscape.

They remained on the ship, for there was no place to move into just yet. Both humans and vampires set to exploring the planet, humans by daytime and vampires by nighttime. They found most of Voldvell's inhabitants were bird-people, though there were humans occupying the planet as well. The vampires set to work building castles for the people on the ship, making them as grand and beautiful as they were on planet Verdamnt.

Several families lived together in one castle. Each castle was big enough to contain at least a hundred people. Construction began not only for castles but also for farms to grow food. Forests had many delicious berries, fruits, and nuts, as well as plenty of fresh clean water.

There were many forest creatures they had never seen before, but the bird-people informed them which ones to avoid and which ones were friendly. Humans and vampires used a translator device found aboard the ship to communicate with the alien bird-people. Every ship had the translator device.

There was a rule all vampires abided by no matter what planet they were on: they never turned children into vampires. It was rare that a human wanted to become a vampire, and even so, it was carefully decided whether to validate the decision.

Iérti discouraged people from wanting to turn into vampires, wishing for people to stay as they were. Mallen compelled Iérti and Írásom never to turn anyone into a vampire, knowing there were those who lusted for his power. He didn't want anyone else having the same powers and abilities. Because of this, Mallen, Iérti, and Írásom remained the only three most powerful vampires in the galaxy, Mallen the most powerful of them all.

The inhabitants of Mallen/Iérti's ship lived on planet Voldvell for five years before some people decided to travel to another planet, curious to see what else was out there with their own eyes.

Twelve year old Sophia hugged Mallen, thanking him once again for building her a beautiful castle. It looked very much like a replica of his fairytale castle, but bigger and fancier. There were stables with Voldvellen horses, their coats sleek and shiny. Most of the Voldvellen horses were black in color, though there were some red, brown, and copper colored ones. They were more intelligent than ordinary horses.

Mallen spent much time riding horses, enjoying his time on planet Voldvell. Sophia often accompanied Mallen while riding horses. She looked up to him and thought of him as an uncle. Eleven year old Daniel became very knowledgeable with horses. Mallen requested Benjamin to give Daniel charge over the stables once he became of age. Benjamin happily watched his children grow up in a peaceful, beautiful land without the threat of malicious vampires. Iérti was content in knowing he had finally accomplished what he had wanted all along for his people.

Vampires lived at peace with humans, exactly how Iérti wanted. Voldvell became a utopia for his ambition. Now that he had established what he wanted, providing a safe happy world for humans and vampires, Iérti wanted to reunite with his family.

Mallen was aghast when Iérti approached him one night, a wooden stake flat in the palm of his hand. He handed the stake towards Mallen, saying, "I've finally accomplished peace between humankind and vampirekind. All threats have been eliminated. My people are finally safe. I wish to be reunited with my family now."

A horrible feeling arose within Mallen. He broke the stake in half, throwing it away. "I will do no such thing," Mallen firmly told Iérti, shocked he wanted to die. Anger rose in his voice, aghast by what Iérti wanted him to do. "How could you think of dying? You have a full life ahead of you, Iérti. Enjoy it."

"I am ready to die, Mallen," Iérti told him, his voice serene. "Death is the only way I can be reunited with my family."

Mallen put his hands on Iérti's shoulders, looking deeply into his eyes. "I forbid you to ever have such thoughts again," Mallen said, using his powers of persuasion and mind compulsion to compel Iérti to never think about death and suicide ever again. "I want you to enjoy the life I gave you and live it to the fullest. You are to never think about death and suicide ever again."

Even though Iérti and Írásom had the exact same powers and abilities as Mallen, because Mallen was the most powerful vampire in the land and older than any other vampire, he was able to hold power over the others, even those he turned of his own blood. Iérti and Írásom were able to compel others, but they were not able to compel Mallen.

sighed, disappointed Mallen turned down his request. Mallen had no desire to kill Iérti, even if he was to ever learn the truth about his family's deaths. If that day ever comes, I'll accept my own death, Mallen thought to himself. I refuse to kill the last remaining member of the Keresi family.

From that night on, Mallen kept an even closer watch on Iérti. They said their goodbyes to all the people on Voldvell, thanking the Voldvellans for their hospitality and the people for keeping the peace. They left the planet, once again heading into outer space.

Only a quarter of the humans wished to travel elsewhere; the majority remained on Voldvell. There were almost three hundred vampires that stayed on Voldvell; the rest traveled on the ship. Mallen was almost constantly at Iérti's side, unintentionally annoying him. Iérti was relieved when they landed on Mijoria and rushed out of the ship before Mallen could grab onto his jacket like a parent grabbing onto a child's shirt collar.

They spent only two years on Mijoria before wanting to travel elsewhere. Mijoria was a very interesting planet where all the people looked like anime characters; even space travelers like Mallen and Iérti looked like anime characters on Mijoria because of the planet's special atmosphere. Much of the planet's cities looked like Tokyo, Japan from planet Earth. It was a surreal place to be on a planet that was mostly comprised of futuristic cities. Most of the residents were humans.

Much of the vampires from the ships made their residence on Mijoria, significantly lowering the amount of vampires on Mallen/Iérti's ship. They met up with other vampires from other ships that had arrived on Mijoria.

There were almost as many vampires as humans on planet Mijoria. Three fifths of Mijorians were humans while the rest were vampires. Surprised by the sudden population boom, Mallen and Iérti checked to see where the other ships had landed, wanting to travel somewhere else now that they were beginning to enjoy space travel.
