Chapter 12 ~ The Path of Shattered Glass

"Did everyone get good sleep?" Keth asked, feeling chipper. He was summoned to Eirena's office just after sunrise, a guard leading him to her office after Keth got dressed. He enjoyed a lovely breakfast of warm freshly made pancakes, apple roses and blackberry scones, and rose oolong tea. Eirena surprised Keth when she told him she made the breakfast herself, since she liked to bake, make desserts, and cook delicious food.

An hour was spent discussing things of importance, such as tea, desserts, the beautiful view from the window in Eirena's office, planet Mijishin, and the imminent Path of Shattered Glass. Keth reiterated his desire to fail the Path of Shattered Glass. Eirena expressed her hope that he would achieve his desire.

Then Keth daringly said, "I desire you as well, Eirena. It is my intention to assist Vengimi in his quest to find his son before returning to this planet in hopes of enjoying another 'friendly chat over tea' with you."

Eirena surprised Keth with a kiss before saying, "I shall look forward to another 'friendly chat over tea' with you, Keth."

Keth stared at Eirena in astonishment before his impulses took over and he pulled Eirena into a deeper kiss. They made out for a while before Eirena reluctantly pulled away, having to attend to business since she would be the one directing the Path of Shattered Glass.

They parted ways, expressing their hopes of seeing each other again. Keth returned to his dorm, feeling exhilarated.

An hour later, Keth and Vengimi were advised to wear their favorite clothing and to eat their favorite food. Keth literally danced around in happiness, hugging his beloved trench coat as he twirled around the dorm. Vengimi was amazed by the thoughtfulness of allowing the recruits to wear and enjoy their favorite things, which certainly helped to ease the nervousness and tension.

Vengimi put on the long knee-length purplish burgundy trench coat Keth had given him back on the ship, zipping up the coat as he stood looking at himself in the mirror, or looking glass as it was called on planet Mijishin. His short brown hair was neatly cut, and he felt fresh and clean from a morning shower.

Keth was still dancing around the dorm with his trench coat, singing happily as he felt so very wonderful. He put on his signature gothic black trench coat, sighing deeply in contentment as he admired himself in the looking glass.

"Aren't I handsome and attractive?" Keth said as he turned this way and that, wishing he could take pictures of himself.

Vengimi murmured, "Always," and shook his head, feeling as though Keth could be full of himself sometimes, though he was glad his friend was in an exceptionally good mood today.

It was early afternoon, the approximate time the Path of Shattered Glass would commence. The recruits would leave the Verena Osena and travel by transport ship to a dome made of lapis lazuli, a dome where the Path of Shattered Glass would take place. It wasn't far from the palace, where the final task would take place in a secret underground room that held the Pool of Zolo.

The recruits marveled at the dazzling holographic lights and purple ribbons that filled the Verena Osena. They touched the lights and ribbons, amazed when they disappeared into shimmers, then reappeared in the same place.

As the recruits left the Verena Osena, purple rose petals fell upon them, disappearing upon contact. Whimsical glitter sparkled as the recruits entered the transport ship, which looked more like a luxury ship with velvet cushion seats and cool water available at the back.

The transport ship took the recruits to the dome made of lapis lazuli. It was called the Likadome, which meant 'the Path' in the Mijishian language. The entire dome was a vivid blue marbled with gold streaks, with golden sunbursts emerging from the dome as the sunlight hit upon the thick blue marbled stone material.

Within walking distance of the dome was a connected building that appeared to be made of malachite green stone material. It was a deep lush vivid emerald green color streaked with gold, similar to the lapis lazuli, but vivid green instead of vivid blue.

The recruits entered the connected building called the Zhad Komnata, which was a waiting room with comfortable seats, a brightly lit cafeteria with soft dance music, chic restrooms, a library, work out center, and an arcade.

The official named Tezin directed them through a corridor and towards a part of the building that looked like a purple dance club with floating disco lights and spiraling ribbons on repeat. Purple, Keth thought, his heart beating excitedly as he recognized the source of the shimmery lights and ribbons.

Eirena appeared in a vapor of purple that glided around her like silk ribbons. She was wearing an official looking form fitting royal purple outfit, long sleeved and slim fit, that curved around her body. There was no cape or cloak or trench coat, just her stunning outfit.

Her knee length boots were a lovely light pink rosey shade, an unusual color for boots. The boots conformed to her legs, no gaps awkwardly sticking out like some boots tend to do. Her footsteps were silent as she walked, indicating the boots were made of a soundless material.

Her long dark brown hair was tied back in a high ponytail, the purple ribbons intertwining down her braided hair. The top of the ponytail had a metallic silver emblem and a purple rose embellishment with sparkling metallic black gemstones.

Her steel blue sapphire eyes scanned over the recruits, sparkling when they landed on Keth, before reverting to the seriousness of the announcement.

"Today you will partake in the Path of Shattered Glass. A purple ribbon will direct an individual to the Likadome where you will undergo the Path. I will be alone with you in the Likadome, but you won't see me. That is part of the trial." Eirena sighed as she looked at every recruit. "Good luck, everyone. I wish the very best for each of you. May your future be a sparkly one. I hope your time at the Verena Osena was fulfilling, both physically and mentally. I will miss you."

"Thank you for being an awesome Administrator!" Pirez called out, waving his hand.

The other recruits chorused their compliments and well wishes, thanking for a wonderful time at the Verena Osena.

Keth looked into Eirena's eyes, saying sincerely, "I hope to see you again, Eirena."

"I hope the same, Keth," Eirena responded as purple shimmers of glitter rained down on the recruits, stealthily making a hologram purple rose appear in Keth's hand.

"Follow the ribbon to take the Path," Eirena said as the glitter rain disappeared. "See you in the dome." Eirena stepped back into the deep purple lights, fading out of sight. A royal purple ribbon emerged shortly after, signaling that everything was ready.

The recruits hesitated, suddenly nervous. Vengimi and Keth glanced at each other, neither wanting to be first. Trixy rose from her seat, saying, "I'll go first." She gave Vengimi a kiss before walking towards the ribbon.

The recruits watched as Trixy followed the ribbon into the Likadome. Time passed before the ribbon reappeared, signaling for another recruit to follow.

Trixy did not emerge from the Likadome. Neither did the second recruit. Vengimi began to worry while Keth frowned, understanding the reason why the finished recruits didn't reappear.

"It's so they don't influence the rest of us," he said. "This is an individual Path. If we learned that one of our comrades passed or failed, that would influence our mentality when it's our turn to take the Path. We would be either excited or bummed, which could affect our own chances of passing or failing. Therefore, nobody is to know the results until every person has taken the Path. Then Eirena will reveal who passed and who failed."

One by one, the recruits entered the Likadome to partake in the Path of Shattered Glass. Each finished recruit was placed in an individual holding cell. It was simple but comfortable, warm and with a nice bed, blankets, pillow, and an elegant bathroom.

To ease their boredom as they waited for each recruit to undergo the Path of Shattered Glass, a digital hologram appeared in front of each finished recruit in their individual cells. The hologram was an interactive fashion design program that allowed the recruits to pick and select an outfit of their choosing, as a parting gift from the Verena Osena.

After about twenty recruits, Keth decided to get up and follow the ribbon. He hugged Vengimi as they wished each other failure, hoping they would fail the Path of Shattered Glass. Keth had Vengimi hold onto his beloved trench coat before he followed the ribbon.

Keth entered the dome that was enshrouded in darkness, lit by glowing lamps that led to a stairwell. The stairwell descended into the ground, leading him to the center of the dome where he would undergo the Path.

He looked around the arena, marveling at the dim lights that sparkled intermittently. He heard a faint noise, like the sound of a rushing arrow, and jumped back in alarm, gasping when the arrow struck the wall before disappearing into shimmers.

He turned around sharply, searching for the source of the arrow, when he heard several more hissing sounds and ducked in time to avoid a stream of arrows. They too disappeared upon contact with the ground.

"Eirena?" Keth tentatively called out, sensing her presence and knowing she was there, but she was nowhere to be seen.

In response, bright spotlights shone on Keth, nearly blinding him as he shut his eyes and shaded his face with his hand. The spotlights began to burn strongly, fusing with heat as they continued to shine on Keth. He moved to the left, trying to escape the spotlights, but they followed him, their heat temperature increasing and making the room too warm for comfort.

Keth took his shirt off, hoping his lean sexy body would distract Eirena, but Eirena was the most powerful illusionist and had much self-control. Keth yelped when the spotlights touched him, their light feeling like fire as it burned into his skin. He gasped at the burns before using his shirt as a shield, retaliating by sweeping the fallen glitters from the hologram arrows and throwing it at the spotlights in a rather dignified WHOOSH!

The spotlights vanished, his burns instantly cooled. A new shirt materialized on Keth, halfway open to expose his chest. A mirage of glitter danced down before turning into a holographic form of Eirena. There weren't any details; her face was blurred, her image like shimmery holographic digitalized pixels.

Metallic swords appeared in Keth's hands, gleaming silver with a royal purple edge. Beautiful but dangerous, Keth thought as he held the weapons, realizing things got serious.

Hologram Eirena struck first, but Keth expertly blocked her strike, their swords clashing in a metallic clang. "You may have hit me with the spotlights, but this is where I excel," Keth told Hologram Eirena, stepping forward as he swung his sword. The blades cling clanged as they fought almost in a dance, moving around each other while striking and blocking. Keth parried Hologram Eirena's strikes, enjoying this part of the Path.

Keth smirked when he successfully knocked Hologram Eirena's swords out of her grasp and sent the Hologram Eirena on the ground in defeat. The deep cut appeared on Hologram Eirena's thigh as darkened pixels. Hologram Eirena began vanishing, disappearing into glimmers.

Then the ground started collapsing, crumbling underneath Keth and making him fall down a mine shaft. He landed on a vanilla scented cotton bed, powdery white like clouds and as soft as marshmallows. He laid back and stretched out comfortably, closing his eyes as he said, "Lovely bed. I rather like this."

The cotton disappeared, making Keth groan as he landed on the smooth wooden floorboards. "That wasn't very nice," he said, scowling as he got up.

Keth jumped when suddenly a clock struck midnight, blaring loudly as it chimed a resounding bell note. "Glittering stars!" Keth exclaimed, hurriedly rushing out of the room. "What is this place?!"

It looked like a newly built home, the scent of cedar and pine filling the air as Keth looked around the large log cabin home, complete with a stairwell, a cozy loft, a living room with an unlit fireplace, a brand new kitchen, and doors that led to the bedrooms and bathrooms.

"This place is big enough for two or three families," Keth murmured as he walked around, astonished at how big the new construction home was. He found himself trapped inside a closet, the walls made of velvet and dark brown cherry wood.

Rows of unstylish trench coats faced Keth as he wandered around the never ending closet. "What is this nightmare?" Keth asked. "Was there not a stylist or fashion designer involved?"

He turned towards the looking glass in horror, seeing yet another nightmare in the form of a beard and an unshaven face. "Such atrocity! Planets, this is awful." Keth touched his face, surprised it felt smooth and handsome, though the mirror showed otherwise. What in the stars....

He glanced down at the hardwood floor, surprised to see it covered in dust, piling to where it nearly reached the top of his boots. What is the meaning of this? It was smooth and clear just seconds ago!

"Eirena! Get me out of this place!" Keth shouted as he searched for a way out of the house. To his horror, the clothing racks chased him, literally dashing across the floor and towards Keth. They surrounded him in their armoire, dressing him in unstylish clothing.

"How dare!" Keth exclaimed, lashing out at the clothing racks. "How dare I wear unstylish clothes!" With that, he tore his clothes off, casting an indignant look at the clothing racks. To his dismay, clothing rematerialized on him, so that every time Keth attempted to take his clothes off, they reappeared on him.

"What nonsense," Keth murmured, fed up with this illusion. "This is absolutely ridiculous." He smashed the looking glass with a candle, shattering the mirror and the illusion.

The clothing racks disappeared. The house turned into the familiar dome surrounding. His clothing attire returned to stylish clothing, including his beloved trench coat. A mirror formed on a wall, allowing Keth to see his handsome face.

Eirena emerged beside the mirror, smiling as she approached Keth. "You passed all the tests. There is one final test remaining."

"The Pool of Zolo that will determine my outcome." Keth sighed deeply, taking a moment to consider what was next. "I'm surprised I'm not traumatized from the ordeal of wearing unstylish clothing. Such a nightmarish illusion. Was this of your making? How could you put me through something so dreadful?"

"I am obligated to," said Eirena, giving Keth a rueful look. "I'm just as stuck in this as you are."

"Fair point." Keth stepped forward to kiss her, but Eirena disappeared into shimmers. As Keth looked around in quandary, Eirena reappeared at the exit out of the arena.

"This way," said the Administrator of Illusionary Warfare, leading Keth out of the Likadome.

They walked down a path that led towards the Tieyota Mascima. Deep within the palace, a staircase lit with oil lamps led to the secret underground pool guarded by illusionist soldiers. They allowed entrance for Eirena and Keth, stepping aside to let them through.

Eirena turned to face Keth, placing her hands on his arms. "Normally I would wish you luck, but since I know you want to fail the Path of Shattered Glass so you could help your friend Vengimi find his son on planet Earth, I wish you failure."

Keth checked to make sure they were hidden from view behind a column before he pulled Eirena close and kissed her passionately. "May I emerge victorious," Keth said, grinning as he stepped back into view. Eirena stood from a distance, keeping watch over Keth as he walked towards the Pool of Zolo.

So this is the Pool of Zolo, Keth thought as he looked carefully at the Pool of Zolo. Just the metallic golden color alone indicated this was no ordinary pool. It was completely still, unmoving, yet Keth sensed it was alive somehow. He crouched at the edge, touching the water with his hand.

Immediately the pool began to glow, as if awakened by Keth's touch. It suddenly moved, seizing hold of Keth's hand and dragging him into its metallic depths. Keth was too surprised to struggle; he did not expect to get dragged down by the pool itself.

What in the stars? Keth thought in amazement when he found he was able to breathe underwater while completely submerged. He tried to swim, but he was held suspended inside the pool. The pool shone vividly, surrounding Keth in its golden yellow glow. He felt a warm sensation, like a hug. Is the pool....hugging me? Keth thought in bewilderment.

It was then that Keth learned the astonishing truth: the Pool of Zolo was made of Phoenix tears. That's why it was so powerful, why the water felt alive and sentient.

After the hug, the pool moved him towards the edge, as if allowing him to return to dry land, which was the marble steps and floor.

Keth stepped out, amazed when there were no water droplets on him; instead, he was covered in metallic golden shimmers that glowed just like the pool. The glowing shimmers seemed to withdraw into his body, disappearing inside Keth. The glowing shimmers shared the pool's power with him, allowing him to become an illusionist.

Keth looked up at Eirena, who had a pained look on her face. He ran towards Eirena, seizing her by the arms. "What does the glow mean? Did I fail?" he asked hopefully, his heart sinking when Eirena told him sadly, "Keth....you passed the Path of Shattered Glass."

Keth stepped back, nervously running a hand through his hair. "There must be some mistake," he murmured, his mind trying hard to come up with a way out. "Eirena, please. Look, just lie and say that I failed. You're the only one who saw the pool light up, right?"

Four illusionist soldiers came forward, wearing shimmery iridescent green trench coats with purple holographic shimmers and the golden crest that indicated their status. "There are always witnesses," one of the illusionist soldiers informed Keth, narrowing his eyes at him. "You'll need to come with us."

"They'll take you to a cell where you will wait until every recruit finishes the Path of Shattered Glass," Eirena explained. "I'll personally release everyone from their cells." The pained look returned. "I'm so sorry, Keth. Let's hope that Vengimi doesn't pass."

"After failing my hopes and wishes, I don't want to hope or wish anything," Keth told Eirena, feeling defeated. He allowed the illusionist soldiers to take him towards the cell holding area, located on the same underground level as the Pool of Zolo. Eirena sighed dejectedly as they led him away, knowing it would soon be Vengimi's turn to partake in the Path of Shattered Glass.

In his cell, Keth slammed his fist against the wall in defeat. This is not the Path I chose, he thought angrily, wishing he failed instead of passed. Damn it!

A hologram appeared, cheerfully greeting Keth and asking him to select an outfit of his choosing. Several menu options showed up on the holoscreen, ranging from various articles of clothing, including shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, coats, jackets, blazers, vests, hats, gloves, accessories, shoes, even bras, corsets, lingerie, and underwear.

How kind of Eirena, Keth thought, feeling slightly better at the mild comfort of knowing she was the one who designed such a program, though he was still bitter over his fate. He sighed, tears forming in his eyes from knowing he would have to say goodbye to the Verena Osena, to Eirena.

Keth took his time in selecting a trench coat, elaborating on the material and design, the thread and details, making sure it was an updated replica of his beloved signature black gothic style trench coat. He included a royal purple ribbon design and the military school emblem, as a reminder of Eirena and the Verena Osena.

It was quite fun to go through the different kinds of fabric and material, sorting through the types of clothes and shoes he wanted to wear. No doubt these would be made shortly after he pressed 'confirm' to confirm his fashion selection.

After the fashion selection came another hologram with a food and drink selection. Keth chose mulberry tea and apple roses, a wonderful puff pastry dessert shaped like roses and made with real apples.

I will miss this, Keth thought, wondering about his future as an illusionist soldier. He was sure Eirena would explain what to expect, as well as give advice regarding his new position from recruit to illusionist soldier.

Meanwhile Vengimi watched as each recruit went ahead of him, one after another. It was about thirty minutes between each recruit. Thirty minutes to determine my fate, Vengimi thought, readying himself. Eirena didn't emerge from the Likadome; instead, a royal purple ribbon hovered at chest length, snaking into the room and raising up and down to signal the next recruit's turn.

There was always a volunteer who got up and followed the ribbon into the Likadome. Vengimi chose to go last. The waiting recruits never saw the finished recruit come out of the Likadome, so they were unable to tell who passed and who failed. It was a mystery that Eirena had promised to reveal once every recruit went through the Path of Shattered Glass.

At last came Vengimi's turn. The last recruit, Vengimi stood up from his seat, hoping to fail like he thought Keth did. Somehow he knew Trixy passed; she excelled in everything and would no doubt have a promotion in becoming an illusionist soldier. He knew he would miss her, but he missed his son even more, his heart aching when he thought of the distance between them.

Vengimi took a deep breath and followed the ribbon into the Likadome. The ribbon directed him towards the center where a stairwell sunk into the ground. Glowing lamps lit the entrance to the stairwell, providing light so he could see the beautiful shimmering pearly blue interior.

The arena was a large cave projected to appear differently to each recruit. To Vengimi, it looked like a ship deck that was sealed in, completely covered in dark charcoal material that glimmered dark blue.

It was just Vengimi and Eirena, but he couldn't see her anywhere. Instead, illusions surrounded him, whispering quietly as the voices overlapped so he couldn't distinguish any words. He felt touches on his arms and shoulders, but he couldn't see anyone or anything.

This must be the start of the illusions, Vengimi thought, shattering the illusionary sensation by doing the unexpected: twirling around in place with his arms horizontally outstretched. The touches vanished, the voices fading into silence.

Gunshots fired, striking the wall behind Vengimi. Two pistols appeared in each hand, both loaded and off safety. Vengimi ducked when bullets emerged out of the wall, auto-firing back towards him. Startled, Vengimi ran to avoid the gunshots, gasping when he got hit on the shoulder. He looked to see blood soaking his clothing, dripping towards the floor. Yet he felt no pain, just the impact from where the bullets hit him.

The blood disappeared into a mirage, forming into a cannon that replicated itself. There was no escape; the cannons surrounded Vengimi like a pack of wolves, their sleek metallic surface glinting like dangerous metal.

Vengimi took a deep breath, making sure his pistols were loaded, before facing the cannons. It was hard to tell which one was the original cannon. Firing at random ones would make them disappear or recoil like the bullets. They surrounded him, so there was no path to escape, no way he could run away or avoid them. He had to face them, but how?

It's all an illusion anyway. And I'm trying to fail, not pass. Vengimi crouched and carefully placed the pistols on the ground, stepping back after doing so. He closed his eyes, feeling the whisper of voices again as they increased in volume. He ignored them, focusing on the image of his son in his mind. Soon I'll be with you, Matvei. Soon I will return to you, my son.

The cannons fired, striking Vengimi with full force. He didn't dare open his eyes, even when his body exploded from impact with the projectiles. He felt his body combust into flames, felt the heat of the fire, but he knew he wasn't truly burning, that it was all just an illusion, not reality.

Physically unharmed, mentally strong, Vengimi didn't realize it was over until he felt something like rain descend on him, the voices disappearing into a steady platter of rain. He opened his eyes to see glitter raining on him, the glitter vanishing into sparkles when they landed on him.

Eirena's hourglass figure emerged from the shadows, draped in a cascade of purple glitter and ribbons as she walked forward. "You passed," she said, her voice a mixture of incredulity and surprise. "I totally did not expect that. Now comes the final task: the Pool of Zolo."

An ominous feeling coursed through Vengimi at the words. "But I didn't fight back. How could I have passed?"

"As I stated before, the Path is more of a mental task than a physical one," Eirena reiterated. "You were able to differentiate what is real and what is an illusion. You have incredible mental strength for one so unskilled, much that it makes up for your lack of physical strength. You demonstrated your strength, so therefore you do not need to undergo any further tests. There is only the final task remaining, the one that will determine whether you pass or fail."

Vengimi let out a breath, realizing the final task was the one that would determine his future. If he passed, he wouldn't be able to reunite with his son for a long time. If he failed, he would certainly be able to reunite with his son.

Eirena disappeared and reappeared at the exit, almost teleporting. "The final one awaits." Eirena was reluctant to lead him to the final task, but it was her duty, and Vengimi understood that it needed to be done.

They walked in silence, the footsteps noiseless on the smooth opaline trail. It was indoors, covered by glimmering emerald marbled in golden strands that danced around the walkway. Purple glitter followed Eirena, the sparkles disappearing and reappearing at random intervals. Her long ankle length hair was like a ribbon, swishing back and forth as she moved.

Soon Vengimi found himself facing the legendary Pool of Zolo. Eirena stood a distance away, keeping watch with the stationed illusionist soldiers while hoping the pool wouldn't glow.

Vengimi stood at the pool's edge, staring into the watery depths. It was dusk, the light dimly lit with lamps, the water a dark metallic yellow that reflected off the dim light. Slowly, the water began to move, rippling towards Vengimi who carefully stepped back.

"Please tell me I don't have to get in the pool," said Vengimi, not wanting to get in the strange alien looking water.

"You have to get in the pool," said one of the illusionist soldiers standing guard near Eirena. "Every recruit needs to do so in order to undergo the Path of Shattered Glass."

"It's the final task," Eirena reminded.

Vengimi turned back to the pool, sighing deeply. He watched the water move from side to side, as if coaxing him to enter its watery depths. He began taking his shirt off when one of the soldiers said, "No need to strip. You won't get wet in this pool."

"But it's water, isn't it?" Vengimi asked, keeping his long sleeve shirt on.

"Not this pool," another soldier said warily.

Perplexed, Vengimi stepped into the pool, slowly wading. He kept walking further into the pool, surprised when he felt a warm sensation from it, almost like it was enveloping him in a hug. It was a gentle embrace, free of malice. It reminded him of Trixy's hugs and touches, no tricks or deceit, just love and warmth.

Vengimi felt the water pull him deeper so that he was completely submerged. He was surprised he was able to breathe even though he was underwater. Is this another illusion? he thought, suddenly fearful and suspicious. Is this sensation a fantasy? Am I drowning in reality?

Darker thoughts emerged from doubt. Was I led to my death? Is this the true reason why the other recruits didn't show up, because they were led to die in this pool? Then he remembered it was Eirena who led him to the pool. The Administrator of Illusionary Warfare wouldn't intentionally kill me. She said we would be unharmed. From what I've seen of her, she doesn't seem capable of murder. Keth trusts her, and I trust Keth.

Vengimi remembered Eirena's words from earlier as they echoed in his mind. The Pool of Zolo is harmless. You won't drown.

So that's why I'm breathing. I'm not drowning. This is reality.

Vengimi opened his eyes to a vivid yellow glow that surrounded him as the water began glowing. The warm sensation began seeping into him, the pool appearing to merge itself with Vengimi. He felt the water move him back towards land, allowing him to surface and step onto the cool marble floor.

Amazed at the lack of water droplets, instead seeing the glowing sparkles disappear into his body, Vengimi glanced back at the pool, which waved to him before withdrawing into the depths, the glow fading as the pool stilled.

"What does the glow mean?" Vengimi asked as Eirena slowly came forward, her face ashen and her footsteps solemn. There were marveled looks on the illusionist soldiers as they looked in awe at Vengimi, as though he was a new brother.

The extreme downcast expression on Eirena's face said it all. Vengimi could see faint traces of tears in her eyes, her voice full of sympathy and sorrow. "I'm sorry, Vengimi. You passed the Path of Shattered Glass."

Dismay ran through Vengimi. Oh no, Vengimi thought as a gripping panic seized him. Vengimi barely heard anything, barely felt as Eirena gently put a hand on his shoulder, her voice far away as Vengimi sank to the ground, feeling lightheaded from the dizzying truth.

He had failed to fail the Path of Shattered Glass.
