6. My Wife.
Naveen's POV.
I smiled at her worried face. I don't eat sweet stuff when Diwali is near, neither does she. But she can't say no to me, and she can't give the chocolate puff to me also. After years of togetherness, one thing constant about her is she still behaves like she needs to win my heart. "I was kidding, Navya." I said and pulled her To sit beside me and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. I wanted to kiss her and tell her how much I love her, but I knew... She wouldn't be comfortable with Naitik around us. I turned to him and amusement and confusion lit his eyes.
"I don't eat sweets before Diwali." I told him. He nodded, "Of course I know that Grandpa, but Grandma, you could have just said it, you looked like you were pushed in deep trouble." he asked directing it towards her. She was contemplating as on what to say, "I.. I.. " she couldn't complete, so I intervened, "Your Grandma is of the belief that 'The way to your husband's heart is through stomach.' So...You know in about 4 months in our marriage, I put on so much weight. I started getting belly fat. It was due to her amazing cooking and she took extra caution to always make my favorites, even if she was making something that was not to my liking, she would make something else for me. That habit of hers has not gone till date." I said and Naitik raised an eyebrow.
"I give up." he said and I chuckled but Navya looked at me confused, but before I could explain, he burst again, "I give up, I am never going to find a life partner like Grandma." he said and I felt amused. How could he even think, there was someone else, in this world as awesome as My Wife. "You're crazy, Naitik. Who would want a wife like their Grandmother. I am lady of gone generation." she said. I shook my head, she has no idea, how good she was and is. Maybe, that quality of her, made her more likeable and lovable. "You're perfect Grandma... You don't realise it... I think that only makes you more likable and lovable." Naitik said and I felt so proud. He was so much like me. "Okay.. Tell me what you talked?" I felt like sitting back and hearing Navya's version of tale, so I nudged her and she nodded, "Okay... So where were we... Haan... So we went to temple, prayed. You know what he did?" she asked. And I smiled.

They were just coming out of the temple. When Navya was spotted by a lady staying in her parents building. She looked at them suspiciously and after a small talk, she asked, "Who is he?" and by that time even her Son about their age had joined them. He smiled at Navya and she returned it. "He is our guest, aunty." she said. But Naveen, suddenly put an arm around her shoulder, "And her fiance." he said giving his charming smile. Navya froze in her place. She couldn't stop feeling shy at his touch. Naveen had did that because he had observed the man observing her. The lady gasped and then smiled, "Wow... Congrats." she said. "Haan... Thank you aunty, we need to start. Bye." she waved at them and they both started. She immediately got away from him a little irritated but he didn't mind.

Naitik didn't react and she continued, "We got back by bus. Again your Grandpa, didn't talk a single word the entire ride and I... Well.. I also didn't." she said and I smirked, I knew too well why she couldn't, she was intimidated by my proximity. She had never been close to men. And that pleased me. I know I might sound like a hypocrite, but men are hypocrites, aren't they? I remembered as she mentioned.

They both were nearing home, walking the distance between bus stop and her parents house. When he decided, "Navya, we didn't actually talk. Can we go to a cafe and talk?" she nodded because she also wanted to talk.

"Imagine, what was the first question she asked me." I said Naitik and he contemplated and said, "Hmm... Maybe as to why you claimed yourself as her fiance?" he said and shook my head and laughed a little. Suddenly his phone rang and he excused himself, I took the opportunity and kissed her cheek and joined our foreheads, "I miss those days... " she said and I smiled.
