2. Unimpressive Start.

Naitik's POV.

"Its nothing interesting like your parents though, Naitik." I heard Grandma say as poised as ever but I could hear reluctance in her voice. I smiled, "More interesting maybe." I said and she shook her head negatively. Grandpa kept a hand over her and that's all it took her to stop arguing. "Naitik, but even I am wondering where to start. Like we have been married for more than a century." Though his words were directed to me, his eyes were on Grandma resulting in her blushing and looking down. I rolled my eyes and they feel they are not interesting, if a couple married for 51 years still do much into each other is not interesting, then only God knows what's interesting.

"Tell me, like now I am feeling I should marry, what were your feelings. We're you as excited as me?" I asked directing towards Grandpa but as shrewd as he is, "Ladies first." he pushed and Grandma as usual nodded and started, "Hmm.... So I was 22 at that time, I was in Hyderabad as that was the first placement I got. I had landed in a Govt. Job. It was a big deal." she said widening her eyes go me. I nodded and she continued, "So, I worked there for a year and wanted to work for one more, before I thought about marriage. But one day, my mom called and she was like I have found a groom for you. He is perfect and all."

"Beta, try and understand, your cousin Bitty, is already married and I have come to hear that she is pregnant." Navya rolls her eyes at her overly dramatic mother. She was just 22 and her mother was pestering her like she has turned 60. "I know ma, bit I have been working just for a year." She could hear her mother sigh. "I know Navya, that you have landed on many people's dream job. But marriage is also important for a girl. And I and your father hadn't met you for a year. Pack your bags and I want you hear immediately." Navya could do nothing but agree.

"Oh!" was all I could say and then I turned to Grandpa and he began his tale.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Nivaan, beta, please I just request you to see her photo once. She is a M.Com graduate. She has a gold medal. She has a government job. She sings like Lataji and she is so spiritually inclined and so very intelligent." Nivaan heard for the 100th time that day. And she holds the pic before him and his breath was hitched for a moment. "This pic was taken in her friends wedding, she just was dressed in her mother's wedding lehenga. Just look at her, so beautiful. Meet her once and I won't force you further." his mother requested. But little did she knew that he was dying to meet her after hearing all the things about her and looking at the mesmerising pic. He nodded frowning at his mother but inside his heart was beating at a high speed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I laughed a little, both of them were reluctant, Grandpa agreed only because of how Grandma looked and Grandma didn't even see a pic of Grandpa, agreed just to not be more pestered by her mother. I found it very amusing and smiled. But then one question irked me that why their parents, that is my great grandparents were forcing them. "My mother just wanted to show off to one of her friends who had recently brought home and daughter in law and your grandmother seemed perfect and my Father was least bothered, he told me to do what I want. And your Grandmother's parents were entitled to a inheritance but the condition was that your great great grandparents, that is your Grandmother's only grand daughter means your Grandmother get married. So they were rushing." As he finished, I could hear Grandma gasp.

"You knew?" she asked, her voice so low. I guessed that. She must have never told or discussed it with Grandpa. She was overly protective of her parents. No matter even if they wronged her, she would never let them down and go behind their back bitching. At the same time, I knew that nothing can escape Grandpa's eyes, he directly sees through. But what surprised me is, how come he never taunted Grandma with that. He is not bad or wrong but he taunts of you do anything that is against his will or to show his upper hand but he didn't this time. He simply nodded his head at a extremely shocked Grandma. She is so innocent and Grandpa, didn't even tell her once in this long time of their marriage.

"I have my sources darling." Grandpa said and smirked smugly. I shook my head, he is so cool. Grandma hesitantly turned to me, I know she was embossed with all the relevations and endearment but she spoke, "Naitik, beta, at that time my parents were in need of money.. " but before edge could continue I shook my head. Though I hated how this marriage was sort of forced on them but still I couldn't thank them enough, my Grandparents are mandatory each other. "I am not judging them Grandma. Relax. And tell me then why you agreed to meet and marry?" I asked.

The one to always take lead unless in a disadvantages situation Grandpa answered, "How could inlet her go? She was perfect. So very beautiful, innocent and she was smart and caring as well. Looking at her I could tell how loyal and devoted. I had to sacrifice my care free bachelorhood but I realised I would regret more if I let her go." Grandma smiled and added,  "Well as for me I had no reason to say no,  he was good looking, well settled, willing to marry me, let me support my parents and just 3 years older than me." so I agreed. I shook my head,  they really had an unimpressive start. "So how was the first meet?" I asked and could seem smiles in their faces as they remembered something from the past.
