1. A Loving Demand.

Naitik's POV.

I pressed my horn again and again. It was such a special day and this Mumbai traffic will drive me crazy even on this day. As soon as the traffic cleared a bit, I heard ringtone of my mobile, I put it on speaker sighing.

"Yes Dad. "

"Naitik, son we are on the plane, we will be switching of the mobile phones. So please tell mom and dad na. Take care of yourself and also your grandparents."

"Okay Dad, hmm.... Did mom calm down?"

"Haan.... Son, now you also take your father's side only. 2 weeks of vacation, just 2 weeks of vacation, is that such a big demand that I can't be granted. I.. "

"Mom... Just relax, okay... I admit, I was the one to set up that meeting. It's important for the company mom, plus dad has good relations with them. He just has to ask their demands, negotiate a bit and convey to us, that's.. It.. Then he is all yours.. "

"But.. "

"Mom... Please try and understand, happy journey and take care of each other. Bye."

I cut my call quickly. Mom was good to me but sometimes a complete torture to Dad. Their marriage scared me to death. What kind of dilemma is this? I am going to be 26 almost but I am scared to get married to someone like mom. But I want to get married, to someone like..... Grandma... She is always caring and understanding to all of us but mainly Grandpa. Not once have I seen her pester him. Grandpa, is my role model, and it's only fair that I find a life partner like Grandma, that too before turning 26, because Grandpa was married at 25 only. Maybe, I should ask them their story. That will be great, because I don't know only how everything transpired between them. I only knew this much that they had an arranged marriage. But now I want to know. I drove the car faster.

As soon as I reached the mansion, I got out of the car and handed over the key to a security guard. And I walked in, when I could see big boxes being carried out. I smiled knowingly, it must be Grandma.... She loves growing plants. In our backyard we have a mini agricultural field. 60% of our house,  veggies were from our field. The extras she just donates in her NGO. It was not limited to that,  we also have a cow shed from where our 100% milk and milk product supplies come from. This is one of her many hobbies. I walked towards where she was and saw her from a distance.

She was 76 years old but she barely looked more than 40. She loved fitness and she took care of herself. She was wearing a jeans and top. As I neared I heard her say,

"Nishkanth, you can take this box of tomatoes with you. And also this coriander leaves. Also I have made some chocolates,  take some for your kids." Grandma was always very caring of our mansion employees. Nishkanth was our field and cow shed care taker. Along with Grandma, he is the one who manages this entirely. It still is beyond me,  how they manage so much by only two people but they do.

"Ji madam. Thank you."

"Grandma.. "

"Naitik .....son you are back. Good...come I will give you some snacks." she said walking towards me.

"Yeah... I am very hungry. Dad and Mom are in plane and their phone is switched off,  they will call when they reach there." Grandma nodded.

"Actually they could have taken the jet, but your Grandpa... Won't permit unless it's for business." I smiled.

"That's fair,  Grandma. And mom doesn't like all that stuff..... Otherwise wouldn't dad buy one out of his personal funds. She is also simple like you." I said kissing her cheek. She smiled.

"Go now,  call your Grandpa also. I am arranging the snacks." she said as we entered the house. I nodded and went to Grandpa's office.

"Grandpa...." Grandpa was in his formal shirt-pant. Though he would be 80 in two years,  I could place a bet that no one would believe he is over 45. Like Grandma,  he was also a fitness freak. But unlike Grandma,  his only one hobby ever was Business. I have heard he was a good swimmer but his passion was long left behind in the pursuit of his business.

"Naitik....come... Come... I wanted to talk with you only." he stood up from his rotating chair and sat down on the couch,  I also made myself comfortable opposite him.

"Son,  now that I have announced that your father as chairman and you as CEO of Singhania Corporations,  your responsibility  has become multi fold. I was impressed with your individual business and also the way you performed in our company,  that is the reason why,  I have selected you."I was listening intently.

"I won't mind removing you,  if you don't perform. Don't take it for granted,  you have to prove yourself." he said it with a smile but I could read an underlying threat.

Dad was troubled a lot to be given the position. Dad got it only when he was 35 years old. That too after a lot of such threats and warnings. Grandpa had built the business from scratch and he wouldn't take even an bit of non performance. So only I didn't enter the Corp. immediately after completing studies. I opened a small business and worked like there was no tomorrow to make it big. Seeing this Grandpa,  offered me a post know the Corp. I used to work double time,  first for my company NS Ltd. and second for the Corp. But my efforts  all paid off when just today morning after realising my contribution to recent profits, he declared me as CEO. Anyway,  he will still he the President and I have to report to him and Dad.

"I know Grandpa.... I promise to do my best. Afterall, I am just like you." I said, because I couldn't avoid the fact that inspire of all of these the main reason why I got the position was because I was his pet. Or else he would have troubled me much more for the position.

"That's like my boy,  come give me a hug." he said standing up. I stood up and gave me a hug.

"Where are you both, Grandpa-Grandson Duo,  come to eat." that was Grandma....

"Haan... Here hugging.." she walked towards us.

"Not just any hug darling,  this is a congratulatory hug." I couldn't miss the blush on her cheeks when Grandpa said the word dear..

I smiled and went to hug her. When she stopped me.

"First take blessings." she scolded, I smiled and touched her feet. Grandpa was not traditional at all but Grandma was very strict and traditional.

"Stay  Happy and Prosperous." she blessed me and hugged.

I pulled back though. "Grandma,  you should be blessing me to get married now." she laughed.

"What? You are still young? What's the hurry?"

I turned to Grandpa and he too was looking at me surprised.

"What?" I asked both of them.

"Even Grandpa, got married at 25 and you grandma at 23, then now I am going to be almost 26."

They both laughed.

"Son,  that were those days. You still have time,  you should enjoy. Once you are married,  you should become responsible." Grandpa said.

"We can talk all that later,  come let's eat first." Grandma said and we all headed towards dining table. We had two dining tables in house,  one was a Japanese style,  which could be converted to Indian also. Another normal one,  so we headed to the normal one.

After we ate Grandma suggested,  since climate is so pleasant we should have tea in the backyard. So here we were in backyard sipping different teas but all sugar less. In childhood,  when both mom and dad were working I was with Grandma only and sometimes with Grandpa,  so their habits are 99% same as mine.
Grandpa was sipping his green tea,  I, ginger tea and Grandma,  Saffron tea.
The time was right,  so I ventured,

"Grandpa,  Grandma..... I really want to listen to your story,  how you met, what transpired and your married journey. You guys have been married for over a half a century. Tell me na." I said.

They both shared a look,  "It's nothing so special Naitik. A very normal,  usual marriage." Grandpa said.

"It's not possible Grandpa,  I just dropped mom and dad and I could see their bickering, but I have never seen you guys like that."

"That's because we are old, my child." Grandma said.

I turned to Grandpa,  "Did Grandma bicker you when you were young?" I asked. Grandpa smirked.

"Never." he said.

"Look, it's special tell me na."

"I agree Navya, we have never spoke of such things,  we should." Grandpa said making me Grin.

Grandma sighed,  "Now,  now,  how can I refuse such a loving demand of my only Grandson?" Grandma spoke with a gentle smile.
