Chapter 63

The first thing that Silv noticed back on the ship was that Evanescence was radiating with life which was in striking contrast with the burial ground they had just left behind. The pulsating red light that Silv had trouble getting used to when she first came aboard the ship was substituted with a dark blue one which was far more soothing.

Instead of pulsating violently, it was buzzing peacefully, moving in slow, calming motions. It was a movement that Silv didn't recognize and that her grandmother would have to identify as the ocean waves.

"Why does the ship look so different now?" Justin asked, following close behind her.

"I remember Wir Eis saying that this was the normal, healthy color of the ship. I guess it means that Evanescence is completely healed," Silv said.

"That is correct," Evanescence said clearly and concisely without any of her usual struggles to pronounce the English words.

"That's great for you, but does that mean that you will kick us out now and go home?" Justin asked for the first time addressing the ship as if it were a person.

"Humans are welcome to stay as long as they want, but it would be nice to go home," Evanescence said.

"Come on, Justin, let's go to the control room. I need to check if everything is as it should be," Silv said, finding it hard to believe that the ship was truly cured so quickly.

"I think we've done enough walking for today," Justin said.

"Evanescence, take us to the control room," he added.

"Transport initiated," Evanescence said.

Once they were in the control room, Evanescence spoke up again.

"Transport complete," she said.

"What's with that? I don't remember you doing that before. Have you talked with Silv?" Justin asked.

"No, I heard and noted your preference," Evanescence said kindly.

"Thank you," Justin said.

"You're welcome," Evanescence responded.

During their exchange, Silv approached the seat and slowly immersed her hand in the familiar substance. The moment she did so, she was overwhelmed by the beauty and complexity that was Evanescence.

"Wow!" She exclaimed.

"What is it?" Justin asked, startled by her utterance.

"There is so much more to Evanescence than I saw before. A whole new set of systems, emotions, personalities. They all seemed to have been dormant since the Ice Warrior died," Silv said.

"I was sad, but Silv helped me heal," Evanescence said.

"I am glad to hear that," Justin said.

"You are nice for a human," Evanescence said.

"Thank you?" Justin said with uncertainty.

"She means it. She likes you very much," Silv said, smiling at the emotions that sipped from Evanescence.

"Do not reveal all my secrets, please," Evanescence said.

"Sorry," Silv said.

"What do we do now?" Justin asked, trying to change the subject so as not to upset the ship.

"I guess we should call your family and Wir Eis for a meeting and see what can be done. They deserve to be able to go home now that they have the chance, but it would be nice if they could help us settle in as well before they leave," Silv said.

"Evanescence could you call them and tell them to come here as soon as possible," Silv said.

"I have already done that," she responded.

"Maybe it would be better when interacting with humans to wait for the verbal commands and not do things immediately," Silv said cautiously.

"Yes, of course, I apologize. I am just eager to help now that I can help so much more," Evanescence said.

"And we appreciate that," Silv said.

"Transport completed," Evanescence said before anything else could be said.

Wir Eis, Jamie, Joe, and Jack appeared next to Justin much faster than Silv anticipated.

"Is it okay if Jack sits in on the meeting? He claims he hasn't seen enough of Wir Eis and doesn't want to leave his side," Joe said, pointing at the little rascal who was hanging from the alien's neck.

"If Wir Eis doesn't mind him, I have no objections," Silv said.

After all, he will have to learn what's going on sooner or later, and she had a feeling that the little guy was much more resilient than she gave him credit for.

"Human cub funny. Wir Eis okay," Wir Eis said, looking at Jack with what Silv could only describe as affection.

"Very well. I have called you here because I believe some decisions have to be made sooner rather than later," Silv said.

"Is this about the ship changing lights?" Joe asked, as observant as ever.

"Yes, partially," Silv said.

"Wir Eis, as far as I can see, Evanescence seems to be completely healed. Is that correct?" Silv asked.

Silv was sure that she was right, but she still felt the need to confirm with someone who knew the ship much better than she did.

"Yes," Wir Eis said, holding on to Jack as he was climbing him like a monkey.

"That means that you can go home now?" Silv asked.

"Yes," Wir Eis said.

"But I don't want you to go! You are so much more fun than humans. They are so boring!" Jack said, pouting.

"Jack, they were separated from their family. They need to go back and see them. How would you feel if you were all alone, without your brothers, on an alien planet?" Joe said.

"Oh," Jack said as understanding dawned on his face.

"But you'll come to visit, right?" Jack asked hopefully.

"Probably," Wir Eis said.

Silv wasn't sure if that was true, but she was glad he said it since it seemed to calm Jack down. Furthermore, it caused him to tune out of the rest of the conversation, too busy climbing the mountain that was his new friend.

"Where does that leave us?" Joe asked.

"It can leave us in trouble if we can't get everything we need in time," Silv said.

"Evanescence make anything," Wir Eis said soothingly.

"You mean she can make any device or material that we need using those replicator things?" Silv asked.

"Yes," Wir Eis said.

"But how does that even work? It sounds impossible to me," Jamie said.

"Alien technology and all that, I guess," Silv responded.

"I can explain," Evanescence said.

"The replicator uses the subatomic particles and energy..." Evanescence added.

"You know what? I changed my mind. I don't want to know," Jamie said upon hearing all the unfamiliar terms.

"Joe, with that kind of technology, how long do you think we'll need to set up a habitation under the ground?" Silv asked.

"A couple of days, especially if those replicators can create a few more for us to keep. Is that possible?" Joe asked Wir Eis.

"Yes," Wir Eis said.

"Okay. Wir Eis, I know that it's a lot to ask, but would it be possible for you to stay a few more days until we settle in?" Silv asked.

"Silv saved us. We help," Wir Eis said.

"What will Sei Eis and some of the other females think about it?" Silv asked.

"They accept my word," Wir Eis said, leaving no room for questioning.

"Well, then we should start getting what we need and arranging our new accommodations," Silv said.

"Yes, that sounds like a good idea. But what do we do after we settle in? How do we help those who are still suffering under the Government rule?" Jamie asked.

"That's a question for another day. Let's take it one step at a time," Silv said.

Jamie seemed to want to argue with her, but one look from Justin was enough to keep him quiet. Instead, he initiated his teleportation to the nearest replicator.
