Chapter 10: Warmth and Chills

I didn't even hear their calls to me as I ran out of the hall. All that was going in my mind was that Natsu, the little boy that had found me in the forest oh so long ago, the one I had grew up with and learned magic with, my kid brother in all sense but blood, didn't even recognize my scent.

Why?? I didn't even think about where I was going, Why don't you remember me? Was I such a tiny part in your heart that after how many years it had been for you, you have forgotten?

I brought my hand up to wipe tears from my eyes, but my vision blurred again quickly. But I didn't care. Even when I ran into things, when tree branches cut my arms and leaves got stuck in my hair, I just kept running.

After I don't know how long, I tripped and fell against something, scraping my hands and knees even more. Exhausted, both from the excersise and the tears, I didn't even pull myself up before falling asleep.

------timeskip till she wakes up-------

I open my eyes slowly, wincing at the sunlight streaming through the treetops. My legs and arms stung like crazy, and I was sore. It hurt a lot even to sit up, I found out as I did just that.

"You're awake," I heard Zeref-sama from my far right. Why was he here?

I look towards his direction, adjusting to the light. He was sitting down, leaning next to a decayed tree. Actually, all around me was dead. He had on his lap something black, although against his black robes, I couldn't tell what it was. He was looking at me strangely, probably because of all the dirt and cuts on my body.

"Is this what happens when you are effected by the curse?" I ask after a mental debate, gesturing to the area surrounding us. To my surprise, he answers with a nod.

"Wow..." I mutter, before staring at my hands. My hands were covered in dirt, and my palms had a few pebbles stuck in them from my fall. Which reminded me, "Natsu didn't recognize me."

Zeref-sama nods. "He didn't know who I was on Tenrou Island also," What?

"Did he lose some memories? Is that it?" It was a slim possibility, but Zeref-sama shook his head no.

More silence! Yaaaaay -_- .

"I should probably go... at least to say sorry to Romeo and them," I got up, dusting off myself. I groan, thinking about how much I would be nagged at by the lady I was borrowing the clothes from.

"Before you leave..." I turn to face the only person that still recalled who I was. Zeref-sama held out the black thing that was on his lap: a long, black scarf, similar to what I saw Natsu wearing.

Gingerly, I took it from his hands. "Igneel and Khone wished for you to have this," suddenly, this was 100 times more important than before.

"Thank you, Zeref-San," I bow, holding it close to my chest.

"Be careful," Zeref-San calls, and I run off, the rough direction that I came from. I wrapped the scarf around my neck, smelling hints of my mom and dad on it.

-Cause I want to get this chapter out, I'm putting this time skip: basically, she gets out of the forest, and she finds her way back to the fairytail guildhall-

I timidly walk up behind the guildhall of the Fairytail guild. I didn't smell Natsu, so I deemed it safe to enter.

I slowly open the (repaired) doors, only to be greeted by a new face.

"Hello! Are you new?" The white-haired lady from yesterday smiled brightly at me. She was cleaning the repaired bar section of the room.

I just shook my head, pulling my left sleeve lower on my shirt, making sure my guildmark was covered.

"Do you know where Romeo and Ma- uh, Macao-San are?" I ask, catching myself before saying "Master". The lady shook her head no, still smiling.

"They went out somewhere with Natsu and the others. Did you want to leave a message?" She set down a glass she was drying off.

"No, thank you, uh-" I pause, not knowing her name.

"Mirajane,"

"Mirajane-san," I complete, "I'll just be waiting in one of the back rooms. Don't mind me." I walk past some fairies laughing happily, and I can't help but smile sadly. Any companions I had done similar with either betrayed me or didn't know who in the world I was.

I opened the door to the back rooms, which really were underground, and walked past to the end, pausing at the last door.

As I entered the lonely room, my eyes drift to the solitary piano in the corner that the 'bully guild' had failed to scavenge from the Fairytail guild master. It was an old instrument, but the strings were in tune, and it played well.

I sat myself down on the chair I had brought in on other occasions, and softly tapped the middle C. The note ran out beautifully, and before I knew it, I was playing a familiar tune.

"Whatcha doing, Gajeel-kun?" I stood over him as he wrote something in the mud with a stick.

"N-nothing!" He quickly moved to cover it up, but I saw the staff of music.

"Is that... a song? You write music?" I held back my laughter as I looked underneath his arms.

"S-shut up!" His face went red, and I couldn't hold back my laughter.

"Let me see," I say, and he grudgingly moves out of the way. I looked at the music, and started to hum the tune out.

"It's very nice," I state, looking back at him, "I'd like to sing it when you finish it,"

Gajeel looked at me unbelieving, but then saw my honesty and smiled widely.

"Sure!"

I hit the last note of the song, and leaned back into the chair I sat in. To my left, where the door was, I heard someone inhale sharply.

"...Demertia?"
