The Hybrid: Chapter Twelve
Thane Krios stood in the corner with his hand over his mouth. He repressed a cough, his chest tightening. An assassin was starting to breathe down his neck. Thane couldn't hide for long, he wanted to find Shepard somehow and tell her the danger she was in. Thane cursed under his breath, trying to hear the footsteps of the assassin. So far, he couldn't see anything besides the few Krogen that were walking outside of the Citadel Tower. He prayed that Shepard and Garrus had gotten to safety. He was going to find out what was happening one way or another with this.unknown assassin who had already taken down a fellow crew member.
"Just who I want to see."
Thane turned quickly, grabbing the pistol at his hip in one fluid motion. The man stood in the darkness, pointing a gun to Thane. Thane stood his ground, taking quick glances to the area surrounding him. No one else was around. He did, however, notice a camera in the top right corner. He looked back to the dark figure who took a step towards the dim light. The assassin had cornered Thane into a dark corner of an alleyway that led to the ever so popular Afterlife club. Even if they were to fire their weapons, nothing would be heard over the booming music. Thane began to wonder where the security had gone.
"What do you want?" Thane questioned.
"Just here to do a job." The man said. Through the dim light, Thane noticed that he was human.
"Doctor Heart summoned you, didn't he?" Thane questioned. The human laughed, taking a step forward, Thane could easily pull the trigger. Something inside of him told him not to. Thane cursed himself for it.
"Who else? You and your friends are trying to take what is his." The human scoffed.
"It's wrong." Thane growled. He stepped to the side, examining every movement the human was taking. Thane noticed that the man had his free arm tucked behind his back. There could be another weapon with him. Thane only wished that he was wrong but the twist in his gut told him otherwise. Before Thane could think another thought, the human fired his weapon. Thane jerked out of the way, quickly finding cover behind the crates that littered the walls. The human couldn't help but laugh.
"Hide all you want! You cannot hide from me!" He called out. He continued to fire his weapon. Thane took a breath, counting how many times the man had fired. He did in fact have two weapons with him. He has two pistols. The human paused for a moment to reload his weapon. Thane quickly turned the corner of the crate, firing into the darkness. Thane heard movement, the human diving out of the way. Thane fired his weapon again, feeling something or someone behind him. Thane turned back around the crate, slamming his back against it. He fired in front of him, seeing a shadow jump into cover.
Thane could hear the human assassin chuckle. Thane's body launched suddenly, sending him flying forward towards the direction of where the shadow was. The human assassin fired his pistol again, this time hitting his target. Thane cried out, coughing as blood ran down his torso. He had been hit, the bullet going through him, thankfully. Thane reloaded his pistol, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
The human walked forward slowly, looking towards Thane but also looking for the shadow he saw moments ago while firing his weapons.
"The doc will complete his mission and there is nothing you can do about it. The Reapers are going to take over the galaxy, we are saving the human race!"
"By merging species together?!" Thane called out, turning around to fire at the human. The human reflected the bullets using his biotic powers. Thane swore under his breath, the pain from his open wound was beginning to become a problem now. Thane was starting to wonder if any C-Sec were hearing the weapons fired. He could use the help any minute now.
"We will reign superior." The human growled. He came to Thane's side, kneeling beside him, putting a pistol to Thane's temple while using the other to fire his foot. Thane screamed, the human pressing the hot barrel of the pistol to the wound on his chest.
"I'll let your Captain know you didn't make it." The human smiled.
"Go to hell," Thane said through his gritted teeth. Thane began to whisper prayers to his god, causing the human to laugh. Thane was ready to give up his life. He wasn't going to be living long anyways. He would rather die fighting for something good than for taking another life for money. He wanted to right his wrongs.
Shots rang.
Thane sucked in a breath. The pressure of the pistol was off the temple of his head. Thane slowly opened his eyes as the body of a human assassin fell next to him. Thane looked in front of him seeing Shepard stepping out of the darkness with Garrus further behind her with other C-Sec officers. Thane let out a shaking breath as Shepard ran towards him. He was losing too much blood from his chest wound. The pain was also getting to him, the adrenaline was starting to disappear.
"What happened?" Shepard asked quickly. Thane looked next to Shepard, hoping to see the assassin laying in his own blood. Instead, he just saw a small puddle of blood where he once laid. Thane swore under his breath, his eyes fluttering shut. The last thing Thane remembers was Shepard calling out his name over and over again, begging him not to fall asleep.
