The Hybrid: Chapter Seventeen

"Why is this happening, Garrus?!" Shepard yelled, "out of everything that's been going on they chose him to come back?!"

Garrus stood in Shepard's room, his hands coming out to her shoulders. He pulled her in and hugged her, making sure she returned the hug. He took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly, whispering to Shepard to do the same. At first, Shepard was rolling her eyes but now, she was starting to feel a little better. She still didn't like the fact that her ex was back from the dead nor the fact that Thane was going to be the doctor's next test subject.

Shepard cried into Garrus' chest, letting the anxiety leave her body before she shot up the Normandy. She felt better now that he was here. When she found out he was the archangel, she couldn't be happier to see a familiar face. When they met and took out the doctor, they bonded over the stories they told each other. Something about that mission had Garrus open up to her more. Now, after what they have been through, she couldn't see herself not being with him.

"I'm sorry." She said as she pulled away.

"Baby don't be sorry." Garrus cupped her cheek.

"I'm sorry about that night... when you kissed me."

"Oh." If Garrus could blush, he would, "I... I should have respected your boundaries. I-"

Garrus stopped talking when Shepard pulled him down to her to kiss him. He was shocked by the kiss but he didn't hesitate to pull her close to him. Though, he was confused as to why she was alright with kissing him now and not last night. Even if he was drunk, it didn't make much sense to Garrus. Shepard pulled back, biting her lip as her gauze looked up at Garrus.

"If you ever need to let off steam..."

"I think right now would be a good time, don't you think?" Shepard grinned, her hands wandering over Garrus' arms and down to his hips. Her mind was a mess and her body craved love and affection from this Turian. Maybe if she caved into her sexual desires, she might feel a little better.

"What about Thane?" Garrus questioned. Shepard grabbed his two fingered talons, guiding him over to the bed.

"Joker is taking care of it for the moment."

"Good."

Garrus didn't hesitate to help Shepard losen up and get her mind off of what was happening in the universe at the given time. It was weird at first, given that Shepard never had sex with a Turian before, it was Garrus' first time with a human as well. He learned quickly just how fragile humans were and how much he never wanted to hurt Shepard on purpose. Time slipped away from them, the universe was no longer apart of their minds. They had each other and they honestly didn't want to go back to the real world. Shepard didn't want the pressure of the universe back on her. Even though Garrus finally had the woman he's loved for a while now, he was worried about losing her again. The scars that decorated her body pissed him off but also made him thankful to have her back in his arms.

"I don't know how I feel about the hybrid shit that's happening." Garrus said. Shepard was laying on top of him, her head resting on his chest. Garrus ran his fingers through his hair while he had his other arm draped over Shepard's naked body.

"What do you mean?" Shepard asked.

"As much as I would love to have a child with you, it... shouldn't happen."

"Oh. That."

Shepard too had mixed feelings about it. Turians were born with armored skin. Humans were too fragile to give birth to something like that. Not only that but humans wouldn't have the nutrients to take care of the Turian children. Then again, if this were to happen, then the universe would be saved if she didn't stop the Reapers.

Shepard sighed, putting her hands.under her chin and looked at Garrus, "if I fail to stop the Reapers, they could be used to repopulate the galaxy."

There was silence between the two for a moment.

"They are just kids." Garrus whispered.

Shepard kisses his chest, frowning.

The Normandy started to rock suddenly. Garrus held onto Shepard so she wouldn't be flying off of the bed. When it was a little more stable, Shepard and Garrus were quick to get up and get dressed. Joker was already on the intercom telling Shepard that they were being shot at. Shepard demanded that the shield be deployed. She cursed under her breath for this ship not having any fucking weapons on it. It was a stealth ship, yes, but one small cannon would help her feel a little better.

"Joker, find out who the fuck is shooting at us. Coming to the bridge."

Shepard quickly left her room with Garrus right behind her. She had a small feeling in her gut; she knew who it was. She swore under her breath as she made it to the bridge. They were being hit again. Shepard braced herself, gripping onto the back of Joker's seat. She swore again.

"They are calling,"

"Patch it through."

Joker took a deep breath and pressed the button, attempting to dodge another hit. They haven't been back into space for longer than a week and they might have to head back for repairs. Shepard hope it didn't come back to that, she had enough politics for a life time.

"It's been a while, Jane."

Kaiden's voice seemed to echo through a dead silent ship. Shepard's stomach felt tight and her heart felt like it fell down to her feet. She didn't know what in the hell to think right now. Kaiden died on that planet. Her anxiety came back in a flash. He must have been brought back by Cerberus. Another dead comrade comes back to haunt her.

"How are you alive?"

"I can ask you the same."

Shepard wasn't sure what to say.

"You never gave it much thought, did you?" Kaiden asked, "I see you moved on after I died. That didn't take long, did it?"

"How—"

"I have my ways."

Shepherd could hear the smirk in his voice. Chills ran down her spine at the thought of him watching her on the ship.

"Are you the one attacking us?" Shepard questioned.

"Just trying to send a message." Kaiden responded. Shepard but her lower lip, looking over at Joker who had his hands gripped on the steering wheel.

"Where is Thane?"

Kaiden chuckled, "He's busy right now, Jane. Saving the galaxy from destruction. Do you remember that or are you too focused on your Turion toy over there? Does Garrus know—"

"Are you that bent out of shape that I left you? You were dead—"

"YOU NEVER BOTHERED TO LOOK! YOU NEVER BOTHERED TO COME BACK!" Kaiden shouts, "These people took me in and made me into a better person than the Alliance ever did! I will stop at nothing to wipe you out! To stop you from killing our last chance at hope!"

Another blast.

"Shit! We have been hit!"

It went into a blur. The alarms were starting to blar, dancing red lights, Shepard was panicked. She needed to see where they were hit, if they were safe. She tried her best to keep her mind at ease. The last time something like this happened she ended up dead. Joker told her that the ship has damage but they were still able to get to safety someplace else. Going through a Mass Effect Relay was not an option, it would breach the haul.

"Get the injured to medical haul, see if we can patch up the damage for here. I want to try not to go back to the Citadel."

"Right, Commander. What about Kaiden?"

"Track him. Once we have things under control, I want to get this bastard and kick his ass."

Joker snickered, doing what he does best in trying to outrun the enemy ship while also attempting to track him down. Shepard carried on through her ship, helping as many people as she could. She was out looking for blood, she wanted nothing more than to stop Kaiden herself now. He took her friend, her left hand man. Shepard was slowly starting to think that Kaiden had been the one tracking them down this whole time. He must be Cerberus' personal lab rat.

"The map has the corrodince to Kaiden's whereabouts." Kelly radios to Shepard.

"Thank you, Kelly."

Shepard was quick to make her way to the map. There was, on a planet not far. MSV Fedele; the same place where Garrus and Shepard found Doctor Heart.
