Chapter 17: Real Nightmares
"Uh..." You and Peter stared at May.
"WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!?" May yelled.
"May. It's nothing! I got Peter a Halloween costume of Spider-Man because it his favourite superhero." I said the first excuse that came to mind.
May looked at you questioningly. "That is a pretty damn realistic suit." May was not quite convinced.
You laughed nervously trying to backup your excuse. "I know right? It's just a really good website... what? Did you actually-" You laughed. "Did you think it was the Spider-Man suit?" You laughed again and Peter joined in on the bluff.
"O-oh... r-right of course not." May chuckled awkwardly. "Silly me. It just- from this angle I was a little shook. Sorry kids..." May walked away chuckling at herself. Once she was gone and out of earshot you and Peter let out a long huff of relief.
"That was way too close!" Peter flopped on his bed next to you. "How are you so good at coming up with excuses. I would have been so stuffed if you weren't here..."
"3 years of practice." You laughed. "But you're right. Way too close for comfort."

You were running through an alley.
"PETER!" You screamed for him. There was blood on the ground once you stopped. Everywhere. "PETER! WHERE ARE YOU!? ARE YOU OK!? PETER!?"
"Hunter. Or should I say y/n Stark..." I voice rung through the alley. "Poor Peter. Poor unfortunate Peter... you could've saved him. But you didn't." Purple eyes appeared in the dark corner.
"WHERE'S PETER!" You screamed, tears trickling down your face.
"Right here." The voice said. The purple eyes disappeared. The dark corner lightened revealing a bloodied body... Peter. You ran up to him.
"Peter! Peter please! Wake up! PLEASE!" You cradled his head in your lap. "P-please." Tears gushed out of your eyes. "YOU DID THIS!" You screamed at the voice. "YOU DID THIS!"
"Y-y/n..." A faint and frail voice spoke you looked down at a bloodied face.
"Peter! Peter! I-"
"He didn't do this..." Peter eyes opened but only slightly. "Y-you did..." His body went completely limp in your arms.
"NOOOOOOO!" You screamed again. "PETER NO PLEASE! PETER!"
"You heard him." The voice spoke again. "You did this. The only monster here is you. All this blood spilt is because of you."
"N-no." Your voice cracked. "I-I didn't-"
"It was you. Look at his stomach." The voice cackled. You looked at the Peter's red stomach... n-no...
One of your arrows suck out of it.
"The only monster here is you." The voice repeated. Out of the dark alleyway a figure emerged. The figure had red eyes.
It was you. But in your red eyed state. The figure brought a wrist up and pointed it at you and fired an arrow. The arrow hit you hard. You screamed in pain. "I know who you are. I will tear you apart from the inside out using every weak point and every soft center. I promise you that." The voice spoke.
"Y/n... You did this... You did..." Peter's voice echoed in your mind as everything went black. Now there was a different muffled voice.
Y/n... y/n... Y/N!
"Y/n! Wake up!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" You jolted awake screaming and crying. Arrows shot out of you and hit the walls around you. "NO! No! No!"
"Y/n!"
Your vision was blue. It slowly turned back to normal again.
"Y/N!"
You blinked a couple of times bringing your surroundings into focus. You were in Peter's room.
"Y/n! Y/n look at me!"
Your breathing was heavy. You felt a hand on your face.
"AH!" You flinched and looked at who had touched you. "P-Peter?"
"Y/n!" He hugged you. "God you scared me! Are you ok!? What happened!?"
"I-I... you-you're..." You stuttered finally coming to sense.
"You were crying out and flinching in your sleep. You turned into Hunter at one point crying out 'no'." Peter was shaking and he hugged you tighter. "I was so scared. I tried to wake you up but you wouldn't. Your eyes were open b-but they were blue and I couldn't get to you."
You finally relaxed hugging Peter back burying your head in his chest. You were in his room with Ned.
"Y/n! Are you ok!? That was insane! You were like 'ah!' And then like 'no' and then arrows shot out everywhere it was crazy." Ned rambled.
"S-sorry to scare you guys." You laughed half heartedly. You tried to pull back from the tight hug Peter had you in but he just hugged you tighter.
"P-Peter... I need to breathe..." You laughed but it was still stifled. Peter still didn't let go. You felt wet drops on your shoulder. Peter was crying. Was it really that bad? "Hey... Pete. It's ok now. Everything is fine. I'm ok. It was just a really intense dream." You assured Peter hugging him. He finally pulled out of the hug. His expression was soft but still full of worry. You realised that your face was stained with silver tears. You wiped them off.
"That was more than a bad dream y/n." Peter sighed at you. "It was... like you were possessed..." He looked down one more tear falling on his hand. You cupped his face and wiped the tears away with your thumb. Peter nuzzled into your hand and brought his own hand on it.
"Shh... I'm ok." You smiled. You realised that your arrows were still sticking out of the walls around you. Ned was currently poking one and staring at it in awe.
"So, that just came out of you!? Cool." Ned awed. You retracted your arrows and they all disappeared into your hand. Ned flinched and stared at the place where your arrow used to be. "So cool..."
"Y/n what happened in your dream?" Peter asked you. You were currently on a mattress on the floor so you positioned yourself to sit against the wall. Peter sat beside you wrapping an arm over your shoulder. You sighed before answering his question.
"I was in an alley... running after something. When I stopped th-there was blood everywhere around me..." Your breathing hitched. "I-I saw these purples eyes in a dark corner. I couldn't see the body. Just the eyes. He knew who I was. My identity. Then the eyes disappeared and the dark corner lightened..." Your voice then became shaky and tears started running down your face. "Th-there o-on the g-ground w-was a-a body... I ran up to it-" You burst out into a fit of sobs. Peter hugged you again cooing. You were shaking. "Y-you were there on the ground covered in blood. I screamed out that it was his fault- whoever the purple eyes belonged to. Then..." You stopped talking and stiffened.
"Shh... it's ok. It's ok." Peter cooed again.
"Y-you... You... said it wasn't his fault... y-you... you said... it was... mine." you cried again. Peter hugged you tighter. "Then your body went limp. Out of the shadows came a figure. It was me with my red eyes. Not blue. The red eyed me aimed an arrow at me and fired. The voice said he would tear me apart from the inside out. Then your voice echoed again saying it was my fault. I did it."
By now you were a crying mess. Ned had come over to you two. Peter hushed your sobs gently. "Y/n. It's ok. I'm right here. I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere."
You took in a shaky breath again and finally relaxed wiping the tears away from your face. Peter kissed your forehead still hugging you.
"Ok. This is probably gonna ruin the moment..." Ned entered the conversation. "But you two are so freaking cute together I'm gonna die!"
"Ned! Not the time." Peter glared.
"Sorry. I did warn you but I couldn't hold it in any longer." Ned laughed. "I got the Huntsmen feels."
You and Peter looked at Ned with an exasperated 'really...' expression.
"What?" Ned questioned innocently. "Don't judge me... ugh. I am so the third wheel in this relationship..." this made you all laugh and lighten the mood.
"I'm ok now." You smiled at Peter. "You can stop worrying."
"It's my job to worry."
"No. It's your job to stop Ned from fanboying all of the time and you clearly suck at doing that." You joked.
"Hey. I can't stop it when he does it. It's like a freaking bomb waiting to explode. The longer you keep it contained the bigger the 'BOOM'!" Peter defended.
"Either way this was the second weirdest Star Wars marathon I've ever had." Ned changed the subject. You all laughed.
"Wait the second!?" You stopped and looked at Ned in confusion. "What was worse than this!?"
"You don't wanna know..." Ned looked at Peter with knowing eyes. Peter glared at Ned shaking his head slowly as if telling him to not mention it.
"Okay... I'm just not gonna ask..." You joked.

Time skip brought to you by those moments when you just go 'yep. I be the third wheel right now...'

You and Peter were swinging around the city. "I love afternoons." Peter sighed happily as you two lay down on a buildings top.
"Why?" You asked.
"Because I can just relax and be weird. Plus Spider-Man and Hunter are dating." Peter smiled.
"You act like that everyday anyway." You rolled your eyes and laughed.
"I do not." Peter sat up.
"Yeah you do."
"No I don't."
"Peter. Literally this morning is an example to my argument." You raised an eyebrow at him.
"I'm allowed to act like this when it's just Ned around!" Peter defended.
"It's worse when Ned's around because he multiplies it by like 50." You sighed.
"But that's Ned being... well Ned being Ned."
You laughed. "True..." You were about to argue with a different point when you got a headache. "Ah!" You grasped your head.
"Hunter? What's happening?" Peter jumped up.
Through the blue vision you saw a man having a gun pointed at him. Then person with the gun fired. then the vision ended before you saw the bullet hit the man. It had just ended at the sound of the bang.
"Someone's about to be shot!" You jumped up and started flying off in the direction of the fight. Peter joined you swinging across the city. "I hate this so much." You huffed as the wind blasted against your face.
"Hate what?" Peter asked.
"My visions. This man is going to die. We'll be too late. I always am..." You sighed. "In my vision the gun was pointed at the man's forehead. I saw it. He's going to die and we can't stop it."
"Hunter, it's amazing how you get these visions. So many times when you see the visions of someone getting beat up, it allows us to get there and save them before it gets worse. You save people." Peter comforted you.
"For someone who sees visions a couple of seconds into the future, I always seem to be two seconds late..." You sighed upset. "I can ever change them or stop them. I hate it. I mean I don't know what I'll do if I ever see you or someone else I love get killed in a vision. I'll have to see it happen twice! I won't be able to stop it! I am helpless!" You were getting more angry now. You two landed on a rooftop and Peter engulfed you in a hug. You normally hate hugs, but Peter's hugs were fine.
"You aren't helpless because you still help everyone. These visions seemed to always be placed so that when you get there you see them again. It is very specific so it's like keeping the balance of things. You still have never failed to protect someone once you've seen a vision. Ever."
"Yes. I have." You pulled out of the hug and huffed walking away from Peter, looking at your feet. "I have seen a vision. And I have not saved the people. They died. There were killed and I couldn't stop it!" Peter walked up to you, you were getting really angry with yourself.
"Who did you not manage to-" Peter cut himself off with realisation. "...oh..."
"Yep. The people that I needed to protect most I failed to. My entire family are dead! D-E-A-D! Because I couldn't save them. I could've gotten everyone out or at least protected them but no! I failed! They are dead! Because of me! All of them!" You mocked yourself by laughing, but you soon fell to your knees whispering the rest as tears ran down your face. "I had cousins there that day. Children younger than I was. Some were 5, 3 there was even a baby... they're dead now because I didn't do my job. I didn't save them. They have no future today because I failed... it should've been me... I wish it was... I don't help people. I don't save anyone. The world would be better if I was gone. But still it has to be impossible to kill me! The universe just loves to mock me..."
"ENOUGH!" Peter stormed up to you and grasped your arms shaking you sharply as if shaking you to sense. "Y/N! STOP IT! YOU SAY THAT YOU DO NOT SAVE ANYONE!? TELL THAT TO EVERY PERSON YOU BROUGHT OUT OF THAT BURNING BUILDING! TELL THAT TO YOUR DAD! EVERY PERSON WHO YOU STOPPED GETTING KILLED! TELL THAT TO THEM!..." His voice became soft like a whisper. "Say that to me. That you never save anyone. To me. You saved me after a bullet pierced my skin. Tell that to everyone you've ever saved..." He had taken off his mask and you could see tear marks down his face. "...You say that you wish you died that day. Y/n. If you died, everyone who I just mentioned would probably be dead now. I would be dead now. So don't you dare think that for a second! That you don't save people! Not a single second." Peter still held one of your arms but with his other hand he cupped your cheek. He looked at you and you could see the hurt in his eyes form what you said. He meant all of what he said. You knew he was right. You closed your eyes and nodded your head slowly.
"I'm sorry. I just miss them. I wish that I had saved them." You mumble.
"I know how you feel. I feel that exact way about Ben. I feel that way about my parents even though I never met them." Peter smiled sadly at you. He leant forward and kissed you. You wrapped your arms around his neck.
You pulled away and he rested his forehead on yours. "You ready to go?" Peter asked you softly. "Are you ready to save someone? Because I know you will."
You nodded your head and swung off in the direction of where the vision had taken place. Peter was right. The gun hadn't gone off yet. It won't until you get there. No matter what happens there will always be balance. You finally understood your visions a little.
You arrived at the top of the building on the edge of the alley. You and Peter snuck over to the edge to look over it. You saw the man hold up the gun and he went to fire it. You shot an arrow at the gun instinctively and the gun was out of the man's grasp as there was a bang. But the bullet never hit the victim. Wait. What? I shot an arrow at the gun. The bullet did hit the victim? That doesn't make any sense. Then you realised, in the vision, you never actually saw the man die. You saved him before it happened.
You and Peter jumped down to fight the criminal. He turned around to face you both and seeing his face you froze.
"Hey buddy, shooting people's wrong didn't anyone ever tell you that?" Peter went to web the man to the wall but it went straight through him. You were still frozen stiff in shock. Thoughts swimming your mind. No. How? This cannot be happening! How!? "What the-?" Peter tried to shoot another web at the man but the same thing happened. "Are you like a hologram or something?" The victim had run off by now.
"Not exactly..." He man spoke and you backed away in fear. Peter looked at you in confusion as to why you were backing away. "You know who I am... y/n." The man disappeared before your eyes. Peter looked at you in shock.
"What does he mean? How do you know him?... y/n? Are you ok?" Your eyes were open widen and you were still frozen in fear. "Hey y/n. What's going on right now?" You didn't move or say anything. "Y/n. Say something right now, you are freaking me out. Are you ok? Say something. Y/n?" Peter shook you gently. "Y/n... He knew your name. How?"
You were still in shock but you managed to mumble in response. "Th-those eyes. The voice. The man in my dream... he said he knew who I was and he does..." You breathing hitched as you went into a state of freak out as you came back to sense.
You then looked over to where the purple eyed man once stood. There was a hint of white on the concrete. You got up and walked over to it, Peter following you. "It's a note..." You picked it up and unfolded it. In messy handwriting was:
I know who you are. I now your weakness. I will tear you apart inside out. Everyone you love or care about will die at your own hands. Y/n Stark. I am coming for you. But we both no the one person who will end you is yourself.

"He knows who I am! He was in my dream! He-he... he said knows my weakness... Peter I'm scared..." You looked at Peter. He hugged you tightly.
"It's ok. We're going to get through this. I promise." He whispered soothingly to you.
"Pete I'm scared..." You mumbled.
"I know. So am I. But the best thing about fear is that it's the strongest drive. Whenever you're scared. You use it as the most powerful drive... You can do this."
"But he knows my weakness. We only found out that vibranium with force behind it can crack my hardened blood but that's not really a weakness." You tried to think.
"Don't worry about it ok? You said he was the man in your dream... could he be psychic?"
"Yeah. I think that he is. He must be able to enter my dreams... that's it!" You jumped away from Peter in surprise. "That's how he figured out some of my weaknesses or more like fears. Through the dreams." You understood now.
"What are you afraid of then?" Peter asked.
"Umm... not much really..." You didn't want to admit your fear even to Peter.
"Y/n. What is it? I know you are hiding something." Peter sighed tilting his head to the side looking at you. You huffed in defeat.
"My biggest fear... is not being able to save those who I love and care about. Like what we were discussing before. Ever since the... thing with my family, I've been so scared for something like that to happen again. Not a bomb in particular. But anything... But, I'm also scared of..." You hesitated. Peter sensed this and so he held your hands. "...I-I'm scared of... myself." Peter gave you a questioning look for you to elaborate. "Whenever I get that red eyed power thingy, I'm not in control of my actions. One time it happened a year or so ago and I couldn't even remember what happened. I had no consciousness... Pete what will I do if I..." your voice shook. Peter understood what you were going to say so he stopped you.
"I know what you mean. I feel like everyone's biggest fear is that they cannot control who they are." Peter comforted you.
"But for some people it's if anyone will ever really accept the real them. For me, I'm afraid that one day... I may kill someone. It could even be someone I care about. They might die because of me..." You sighed and your weight gave in so you were on the ground on your knees, shaking from the fear of not the man, not your weakness.
But yourself.
