The scene opens to show a plane flying high in the sky as it passes over a large island until a giant dragonfly smashes into the left engine, causing the plane to crash into the ocean. After some time, the scene changes to show a high school student named Mutsumi Oribe, who has washed up on the beach of the island. She wakes up to see not only the debris of the airplane but also various pieces of luggage from the passengers, as well as her Gomaotto bag, which causes Mutsumi to start panicking until she finally regains her composure.

Mutsumi: Okay, the airplane that we boarded for the school field trip has crashed, and there are giant fern plants growing en masse. Strange; that can only happen if the oxygen in the air is ten times stronger than what it is currently.

Mutsumi continues to walk around the coastline of the beach, where she notices giant-sized barnacles on various rocks as well as the sand until she runs into her classmate, Ayumi Matsuoka.

Ayumi: Mutsumi... (hugs her friend as tears start forming in her eyes) Thank goodness that you are alive!!!

Mutsumi: It's okay, Ayumi. (hugs Ayumi back) Where's everyone else?

Ayumi: You're the only person I have come across, Mutsumi, as I walked along the beach for more than an hour. I even spotted several houses and private homes on the way here, but there weren't any signs of anyone living there, which means that this island is abandoned.

Mutsumi: I see. Then that means we have three days to survive on this island until rescue arrives. That gives us a minimum of twelve hours to find food, water, and shelter until the Self-Defense Force should come to the rescue within three days at the latest.

Ayumi agrees as both she and Ayumi go off to find some supplies, all the while not knowing that they are being watched by something in the trees. Meanwhile, the scene changes to show a second group of surviving high school students consisting of Chitose Naruse, Atsushi Kamijo, Misuzu Jinno, Mami Miura, Kazuhiko Kai, Satoshi Oda, Hiroshi Tsuge, and Miki Shirakawa, who are all shown walking down a path until they notice a vending machine and break it open to get the drinks inside.

Chitose: What the hell are you guys doing?! That vending machine is clearly owned by the people who own this island, and so we shouldn't vandalize it!

Hiroshi: This is a state of emergency!

Kazuhiko: Yeah, what he said! Besides, who cares who owns this vending machine anyway.

Misuzu: (drinks her can of soda) Phew. Glad we were able to secure ourselves some drinks, although we don't exactly have any food. (Turns to the boys) Hey, guys! Go look for some food.

Hiroshi: Perhaps there could be more vending machines that have food in them on this island?

Atsushi: Tsk. You really are a bitch, Misuzu, you know that?

Misuzu: (smirks deviously) What's the matter, Atsushi? Are you too much of a pussy to go into the woods to find everyone some food?

Atsushi: Why, you..!

??? (Voice Only): So, this is where you guys are?

It was then that the group turned around and saw Ai Ino standing behind them while the guys decided to ultimately leave to find food as the girls stayed behind.

Ai: I finally caught up with you guys, and there's already trouble going on. If we don't cooperate after having fallen into such a unique situation, then our chances of survival will rapidly decrease, you know. And since our mobiles aren't usable in this place either, we should help each other, too.

Misuzu: What the hell took you so long?!?! (Sees Ai walking past her as she counts to herself before stopping)

Ai: 1000. (Takes out a map and starts marking down her path) Since my pace is an average of 54 centimeters, it took me 540 meters to get here from the place I was originally at a little while ago. And since right here is about 3.2 kilometers from the place I met with the class rep, I'd say that this is a pretty big island.

Chitose: Impressive, Ai. As expected from a member of the Wandervogel Club.

Ai: Thanks, class rep. Anyway, the class rep can clarify the data that I have collected.

Chitose: Also, a little while ago, those guys who said that they didn't like this and ran off seem to have disappeared. Since they aren't with us, the likelihood that this team will be able to survive has been lowered immensely.

Mami: Seriously?!

Miki: This sucks.

Misuzu: Hold on! Just because we're an unlikely group of people doesn't mean that we have no chance of surviving this hellhole! Look, I know that I am the last person who should be saying this, especially given my reputation at school, but I grew up around boys my whole life, as I have three older brothers, and they taught me how to survive in the wild as well as how to defend myself.

Chitose: That's very unexpected of you, Jinno.

Misuzu: Hey!

Ai: Well, I'm going to go pee. I'll be back soon. (Starts walking through the woods)

As Ai goes to a secluded area on the other side of the woods to go to the bathroom, she notices a few swallowtails in the distance until they start flying towards her, which causes Ai to scream in terror as the insects are revealed to be giant-sized. It was then that Chitose and the others, alongside the rest of the boys, showed up, and they too were shocked and horrified to see the giant insects. At the same time, both Mutsumi and Ayumi arrived, and they were shocked at what they saw. Ayumi then tried to save Ai by running towards the swallowtail and using her knife to stab one of the Giant Swallowtails, but the blade broke after making contact with the insect's abdomen.

Ayumi: That didn't even make a dent in its body! (Starts backing away in horror)

Atsushi: What the fuck is that?!

Kazuhiko: This can't be real, right?! (Hears Mami scream and turns to see two more Giant Swallowtails surrounding her)

Satoshi: I'll save you, Mami! (Starts running towards Mami, but he gets stabbed in the chest by the two Giant Swallowtails' proboscis as he dies from having his bodily fluids drained by the insects)

As all of the students stared at the Giant Swallowtails in both shock and fear, everyone then heard the sound of something banging in the forest as it came towards them, which stopped the three Giant Swallowtails from going after Ai. It was then that everyone saw a man wearing black and red insect-style armor coming out of the treeline while holding his glaive weapon, a polearm that has a single long blade at one end, while the other end has a spiked club with a short blade.

???: (notices one of the Giant Swallowtails starting to fly towards him, and he swings his weapon down, slicing the insect vertically in half with the bladed side of his glaive) That's one.

It was then that the two remaining Giant Swallowtails started flying towards the mysterious man as he charged at them. He then uses his weapon to block the first giant swallowtail before swinging it and smashing the insect with the spiky club end, which completely crushes both its right wing and its thorax, thus killing it instantly.

???: That's two. (Turns to the last giant swallowtail and throws his glaive weapon, which pierces the insect's thorax and sends it flying backward onto the ground)

The mysterious man then walks up to the dying insect as the group of students continues to stand and watch him with various expressions on their faces.

???: (Stands over the giant swallowtail as he takes out his battle axe from his right hip and raises it above his head) Three. (Swings his weapon down and smashes the insect's head)

Ai: (cowers in fear on the ground as she slowly puts her pants back on while she continues to stare at the mysterious man) W-Who are you?

Hanzo: (places his weapons back into their respective sheaths before turning to Ai) Hanzo... the Insect Hunter.

The scene then turns black before changing to show the opening.

Timeskip

After the opening, the scene changes to show all of the airplane crash survivors continuing to stare at Hanzo with various mixed expressions on their faces.

Ayumi: Is it over? Are we safe?

Kazuhiko: What the fuck is going on?! And what the hell is that thing?!

Hanzo: I would be quiet if I were you, as there are more dangerous insects than those swallowtails on this island. You brats may be lucky enough to have survived a deadly plane crash, but your luck has run out the moment that you all washed up on this hellhole. However, if you listen to me, then I'll make sure that you all survive for the next three days until the coast guard sends out a rescue team to come and get you.

Atsushi: You gotta be fucking kidding me! There’s no way we're going to survive for three fucking days, understand?! And who the hell put you in charge?! What gives you the right to boss us around when we don't even know who you are?!

Chitose: Now, hold on! I'll admit that this man is indeed a stranger to us, but he was able to kill three giant insects by himself without issue, while we couldn't even manage to do any damage against one.

Misuzu: (Hears a strange buzzing sound in the distance) Guys! Shut up for a second! There's something coming!

Kazuhiko: (Hears the buzzing noise and starts smiling) It's the sound of a helicopter! Help has arrived! Where is it?! Where's it coming from?!

Miki: (claps her hands with Mami's) Yay!!

Mami: We're saved!!

Hanzo: That's not a helicopter. (Removes his glaive weapon from his back) Everybody get down, now!!!

It was then that everyone turned to see a swarm of giant wasps flying towards them as the survivors dove down to get out of the way while Hanzo tossed three smoke bombs onto the ground. This created a large smokescreen that not only blinded the giant wasps that foolishly entered the smoke, but also deterred the rest of the swarm away from Hanzo and the survivors due to the smoke giving off a strong mint smell. Hanzo then charged at the two giant wasps that had fallen victim to the smoke, and in the blink of an eye, he sliced both insects in half.

Hanzo: Four and five.

At the same time, the smokescreen is shown starting to disappear, which causes one of the giant wasps to notice Mutsumi and fly toward her. However, before the insect can catch her, Chitose pushes her out of the way, only for her to get grabbed instead. The giant wasp then injects its stinger into Chitose's back, which causes her to become paralyzed as it flies away with her.

Mutsumi: Chitose!!!

Misuzu: Wha... What was that...

Hanzo: That is one of the many insects on this island that will target humans as prey. (Turns to Mutsumi) Chitose is still alive as she has been taken to the wasp's nest, but we have to get to her quickly, as the eggs that will be laid onto her will hatch after three days and will then eat her.

It was then that the survivors gasped in horror while both Mami and Miki covered their mouths.

Misuzu: She's going to be eaten alive by a nest of insects?

Mutsumi: Yes, that's right. However, we still have a chance to save her if we work with Hanzo here.

Ayumi: I agree with Mutsumi. (Gestures to Hanzo) This man has single-handedly killed the three swallowtails and the two wasps by himself without issue. So we'd all be dead if it weren't for Hanzo showing up and saving us.

Ai: (hugs herself as she continues to shake from the incident) He saved my life from those monsters.

Atsushi: Now, hold on! I'm not going to risk my life to rescue some chick that I don't even know, let alone follow some stranger to God knows where!

Hanzo: I would shut up if I were you, Atsushi. Unless you want to attract more of the insects to our location. You say that you and everyone here won't survive on this island for three days, right? Well, I have been surviving in this hellhole for five years, and if I can do it, then so can you all, but only if you listen to me.

It was then that everyone stared at Hanzo in shock upon learning about his survival on the island.

Kazuhiko: F-Five years?!

Ayumi: Is that how long you have been on this island?

Atsushi: Hold on! How the hell did you know my name?! I never met you before!

Hanzo: Yes. As for your question, this isn't our first time meeting each other; I was once your classmate many years ago.

Hiroshi: (starts remembering where he had heard the name Hanzo until it finally registers) Hanzo? As in my childhood friend, Hanzo Watanabe, from junior high school, whom I've known since we were kids? What happened to you, Hanzo? The last time we saw each other was when we were thirteen years old, and both you and your family had left on a vacation, but you guys never came back. Many of us thought that you and your family had gone missing, and the police even tried to investigate, but nothing ever came up, so it was assumed that you all had died.

Hanzo: (turns to Hiroshi) None of that matters anymore, Hiroshi. All that matters is for you guys to stay alive for three days so that you all can be rescued and get off this island. Now, stay close to me while we go and save Chitose.

Hiroshi and his classmates stare at Hanzo with mixed expressions on their faces as they are surprised to see that the boy who was originally a happy-go-lucky kid is now an emotionless, hardened warrior. Even Atsushi is surprised to hear what happened to the very person he used to bully when they were kids.

Hanzo: Another thing is that the insects don't like staying in one place for too long, as they are very sensitive to the temperature and humidity on this island. So, always keep an eye on your surroundings in order to predict where the insects in the area are beforehand; that way, we won't be ambushed by any surprise attacks from them.

Mutsumi: Hanzo's right. Because of his experiences, as well as his advanced knowledge of these giant insects, we now have a much higher chance of surviving on this island with him by our side.

Ayumi: Then let's move quickly so that we can save the class rep.

The rest of the survivors agreed, and with Hanzo leading the group, they all set off to rescue Chitose from the giant wasp's nest. The scene turns black, and the credits are shown.

Chapter 1 is done. This took a long time to make as I wanted to do something different by including more scenes of the survivors before the introduction of my oc. Also, everything about Misuzu's past with her having three older brothers and her being experienced in the outdoors is completely original from my own mind. Since I want to give her more personality to her character and in the original manga later on she ends up becoming a full blown badass and stands her ground against the insects. So, that's where I'm ultimately taking her character in this book. Atsushi, on the other hand will also get a much better character development in this book than in the manga as well.
