III Camp
Seven years later...
(That means Percy it's Percy's 12th birthday.)
"Hi Zoë," I said as I walked to breakfast.
She nodded to me.
She's the only one of the girls that hasn't really fully accepted me being in the camp.
I sat down at the fire next to her.
Poseidon had claimed me a few days after Artemis and I had figured out he was my dad all those years ago.
I had finally gotten the hang of archery. I had gotten way better with knives, but I still hadn't found a balanced sword, not even after all this time.
Haha.
Always.
Haha.
Hahahahaha.
Why did Severus Snape die?!
Yes, I've read Harry Potter. It was hard, with my dyslexia and all, but Artemis had locked me in a library once. Now I knew that even though it was hard for me to read, I like to read, even when it takes me a long time.
Only if it's a good book though.
If I don't like the book, I'm going to procrastinate.
Then it would take forever to read.
Anyway, back to the subject (darn the ADHD).
I still haven't found a balanced sword. But that also gives me an advantage. Thailand that if I ever have to pick up an unbalanced sword to fight, I will be better prepared to fight with it than most people.
Artemis had a blue birthday cake ready.
All of the huntresses had been confused when I told them that I wanted my birthday cake to be blue. But when I had sadly told them the story of my mom making me blue food, they all agreed.
The day went by normally, I trained, hunted with the hunters, and ate cake. I also got a present.
"A new set of hunting knives? Thanks!"
Then we ate the blue cake.
"You know this is your last birthday, right?" Artemis said.
"Yup!" I exclaimed.
My wish had been for a sword that is balanced.
"You know that you have to go to Camp Half Blood now, right?" She asked. I froze, and fell backwards out of my seat.
"What?!" I shouted.
"Sadly, you do. You need some training with other half bloods who aren't hunters. They also might have a balanced sword for you."
"B-but," I stammered. "Are the hunters coming?"
"No," Artemis said sadly. "We have some hunting to do."
"Will I come back after the summer is over?" I asked hopefully.
"Yes," Artemis said.
"Then I'll do it, I guess. But milady?"
"Yes Percy?"
"Is Zeus mad at Poseidon or something?" I asked.
"How did you know?" Artemis demanded.
"Well, ever since what mortals call Christmas, it seemed like the sky and ocean were fighting. And I kind of had a dream about it last night."
"Oh, okay," Artemis said. "Well, something important has gone missing. My father's Master Bolt has been stolen."
I gasped.
"And the worst thing about it is that they blame you."
I fell off of the bench again. I don't even remember when I had gotten back on it.
"What?" I asked. "I mean, I've never even been to Olympus!"
"I know that," Artemis said, "but my father doesn't listen to reason."
"Is the reason that he blames me by any chance the fact that I'm a son of Poseidon?" I asked.
"Yes," Artemis said.
"And now there's probably some sort of deadline and if it isn't returned by that deadline, then World War Three would start. That would be a big problem."
The hunters stared at me.
"What?" I asked. "Its not my fault the gods are really predictable. So does this mean that I'm going to have to go on a quest to get it back?"
"Probably," Artemis murmured. "Now we should probably pack up and go."
"Okay," I said. I walked off to my tent and packed up.
"Have you got everything?" Artemis asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"Then follow me." I followed her to the edge of the woods. "So this is as far as I can take you. Just keep going East and you'll get there within the hour."
"Okay. I'll see you in a few months or something." I smiled. "Am I aloud to tell them that I'm one of your hunters?"
"No," Artemis said after thinking for a second. "The gods and Chiron already know, but the campers don't. I would like to keep it that way. You can just stay in the Poseidon cabin."
"Okay, milady," I said. "Bye."
"Bye Percy. Remember, you won't age from now on. There's a satyr coming to help you get there."
"Okay." Then I turned and left.
I found a satyr named Grover. He was standing next to a car.
"Can you drive this thing?" He asked.
"How did you get it here if you can't?" I asked.
"I kind of drove it here. I wasn't very good though," Grover admitted.
"I'll try it out," I said. "I usually travel by foot though."
"Okay," he said.
We got in the car. We got to know each other pretty well.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up. My eyes widened.
"Get down!" I shouted. I crouched down and saw Grover ducking down too out of the corner of my eye.
Then, the car exploded.
Well, not literally.
It had just been Zeus trying to kill me with lightning.
We had to walk now.
I got out, but then I noticed that Grover was unconscious. I tried to open his door, but it was jammed. I brought out one of my knives and cut the door from the car(what? It was a sharp knife). Then I got him out.
I carried him towards the hill.
I was on the hill when I heard the roar. I turned to see the Minitour. I set down Grover and pulled out two of my perfectly balanced hunting knives.
I wasn't going to use a bow, I wanted to use my new knives that I had just gotten.
As the beast charged, I jumped directly sideways. I slashed at its horn and it fell of. The Minitour bellowed in rage.
As it charged again, I rolled to the side and stabbed it in the side. Then it exploded into monster dust and was blown away in the wind. I picked up the horn I had chopped off.
I had a minor scratch on my arm(okay, it was bleeding) but I was fine.
Then I put a away my knives and the horn and carried Grover into Camp.
I knocked on the door. It opened to reveal who I could tell was Chiron.
How could I tell?
Simple. He was half horse.
"Are you Percy Jackson?" Chiron asked.
"Yes," I said. "I can heal Grover."
"Oh, no," Chiron said. "Give him to me. I'll do it." I gave him to Chiron. Chiron carried Grover inside, then walked back out a few minutes later.
He gave me a tour of the camp.
We had to stop at the climbing wall.
Well, we didn't have to.
It went like this.
Chiron: "This is the climbing wall."
"Cool," I said as I watched it spew out lava and smash together. "Can I do it?"
"Uh, sure," he said. "Just don't get killed..."
"Okay," I said, then dashed off to climb it.
I climbed it quickly, then I climbed back down, all before it smashed together, and without getting torched by lava.
"Okay, let's keep going," I said.
"Yes," Chiron said.
I saw the cabins. They all represented an Olympian parent. There was a red cabin, which I could guess was the Ares cabin. There were a bunch of mean looking kids in it. Then there was another cabin with a roof made of grass. I could guess that it was the Demeter cabin.
He led me to the Poseidon cabin and I stepped inside. It smelled like the ocean.
"I still like it better with the hunters," I admitted, "but if I have to stay here, I can survive in this cabin."
Chiron nodded.
Then I saw a blond girl with grey eyes running over to us.
"Annabeth," Chiron said, "this is Percy. Can you take Percy from here? I have masters' archery class at noon."
"Of course, Chiron," the girl, Annabeth, said.
Chiron galloped off.
"So you're the son of Poseidon?" Annabeth asked.
"Yes," I said.
"Okay then," she said. "Now let's go continue the tour. You can leave your horn here."
"Okay," I said. I put the horn on a shelf in the corner of the room. I also took of my backpack and placed next to my bed.
"Lets go," I said.
Then a voice yelled, "Well! A newbie!"
I looked over. It was one of the mean looking from the Ares cabin.
"Clarisse," Annabeth sighed. "Why don't you go polish a spear or something?"
"Sure, Miss Princess," the big girl said. "So I can run you through with it on Friday night."
"Erre es korakas!" Annabeth said. I think it meant "go to the crows!" "You don't stand a chance!"
"We'll pulverize you," Clarisse said, but her eye twitched. Perhaps she wasn't really sure if she could follow through with her threat. She turned to me. "Who's this little runt?"
"Percy Jackson," Annabeth said, "meet Clarisse, daughter of Ares."
"Okay," I said.
"We got an initiation ceremony for newbies, Prissy," She said.
"Percy."
"Whatever. Come on, I'll show you."
"Clarisse-" Annabeth tried to say.
"Stay out of it, wise girl."
Annabeth looked pained, but she did stay out of it.
I got ready to fight.
One thing I learned when I lived with the huntresses: let the girl attack first. I never attack the girl, but I'm allowed to defend myself.
So when she reached out to grab me by the neck, I had slapped her hand away and kicked her feet out from under her.
"I don't like bullies," I said.
She grunted and stood up. Her three friends lunged at me.
The next thing anyone knew, all of the girls were on the ground.
"Now, can you guys please just go back to your cabin?" I asked, annoyed.
They looked at me, but they all walked away.
"You're dead, newbie," she said. "You are dead."
"I don't think I am," I said. "Annabeth, am I dead?"
I looked over at Annabeth, who was staring at me in shock, but she managed to nod and say "Yeah, I'm pretty sure you are alive..."
The girls walked away grumbling under their breath.
Annabeth was staring at me.
"What are you thinking?" I demanded.
"I'm thinking that I want you on my team for capture the flag."
I don't own the Percy Jackson books nor characters. Some of this chapter was copied straight from Rick Riordan's books.
