11|| Sacred Blood

Her transformation isn't the present that Iago promised, and Fujin can tell that her change is a surprise to everyone. Iago drops Mikoto as if he forgot his situation and turns to run. However someone won't let him.

Kamui roars another earth-shattering one and crouches like a puma. Then using her new power she sprints forward and pounces into the darkness. Chasing after Iago like its a game of cat and mouse. Fujin stands still as he can hear Iago begging again to tell him that he has been caught. He wants to with all his heart to run over to Mikoto but it is too dangerous. His action will be in vain if Kamui decides to take the opportunity to attack him next. So he waits until the screaming stop to signify that Iago is dead. He is unable to check with Hawkeyes as he fears to sense Kamui's status as a vampire now.

But Fujin didn't require his ability to know Kamui is coming back to the room. He can hear her breathing like a hungry beast as she prowls the dark corridor. Slowly did her bloody form reveal itself in the dim light. Then she leans towards Mikoto with crazed eyes glinting hunger. Her jaw is already open to feed.

Fujin is acting upon her actions and fires an arrow at Kamui to draw her attention. He steels himself as he expects the sliver to gaze her skin but she lunges forward to dodge. Kamui's movements are rough but mystical like she's performing, but the way her face scrunches makes it not pretty. It's clear that Fujin will become the next target as she emits a suffocating bloodlust at him. She grabs the collar of Mikoto's shirt and throws her at him in her madness. She has forgotten the source of her dark emotions.

Fujin tosses his bow away and extends his hands to pull the injured woman into his arms. He uses himself as a cushion to soften the impact Mikoto will feel. The last thing he would want is to inflict more pain on her. He can feel how little she weighs in his arms as her cold skin touches his fingers. Her blood feels sticky against his clothing and holds the warmth she has lost.

Kamui snarls in displeasure and launches forwards to attack. Fujin braces for the damage and shields the human in his arms with his body. The raging vampire stretches her fingers to claw at the breakable flesh of the Hunter. However her attempt fails when Leo blocks her attack. Fujin looks up to see the bookworm using a book to counter Kamui.

Leo's back is facing Fujin but he can see how much Leo is struggling to fend Kamui off. Leo huffs and shouts, "Kamui! Wake up before you lose yourself!"

Kamui doesn't waver in her attacks. She instead increases them and her violent powers is overwhelming Leo. The book that looks to be as thick as his arm is torn to pieces by her nails. Kamui keeps yelling as if it'll be her last. Mikoto stirs at her daughter's voice and turns her head at her.

Fujin had laid her down to attempt first aid on her. He can feels Mikoto struggling under his hands and warns her, "Don't move. You've been critically injured."

"Is Orochi alright? What about Kamui... I hear her crying." Mikoto asks with her eyes flickering at the mention's direction. Fujin looks over to Orochi who is completely unharmed by the catastrophe while Leo is fighting for his life with Kamui. Fujin takes a breath and is about to speak but Mikoto cuts him off with a faint whisper, "Brother-in-law, please, the prom..."

Fujin, caught every single one of her ear straining words, stares in confusion but suddenly feels a gust of wind pass him. He looks up to find Garon standing on top of Kamui with his right foot on her back. Leo is left standing with a torn book in surprise. If it weren't for his natural presence of authority Fujin would've forgotten he was there, sitting idly as he watch everything happen. Fujin could assume that Garon decided to help his son but he already knew this man isn't like that. Then, Fujin looks back at Mikoto and couldn't see what connection the two could had have.

Garon commands the Kamui who is struggling, "Stand down."

Never mind that, Fujin has to figure out a way to save Mikoto right now. She's barely hanging on and he doesn't even know how she is staying awake despite the shock she should've received from the wound. He is trying his best in pushing pressure on her stomach as he cuts her clothing away. Another pair of hands enter his vision as he is trying to clean off the blood. Fujin looks up to find Leo kneeling on the opposite side and applying pressure on the dying woman.

At that moment Fujin saw the answer that he has been racking his brain. This is the only way that can save Mikoto now. Fujin stops his hands and Leo looks up to meet his masked eyes. Leo also stops his hands and states, "It's impossible. Ms. Hoshido won't survive when the ambulance comes."

"Not yet. We haven't tried one last thing," Fujin replies in haste as he search his pockets with his bloodied hands. "We can still do one thing."

Leo narrows his eyes and growls, "Turning her won't do anything."

"You'll be surprise what you vampires can do," Fujin spats, "Even freshly turned ones can survive worse."

They both know it is possible to turn a human into a vampire. By letting the human willingly consume vampire blood not contaminated by silver they enter a state of predatory instincts. Their physical capabilities heightens as they suffer an insatiable thirst. If they drink the blood of a human within 24 hours of the previous consumption then their body will begin changing into one like a vampire. However if the conditions are not met they stay human with a terrible case of food poisoning if they don't throw it up before digestion. Some Hunters Fujin knows use this technique to equally fight back against vampires when they're in a tight predicament. But what Fujin hopes to achieve is to use the vampiric regenerative abilities to heal Mikoto after she turns. The catch about this is that a vampire can never return being human. Leo opens his mouth to argue back but stops at Mikoto chuckling, "Sorry, but I can't..."

"Don't apologize. Just think about surviving and you'll live," Fujin gently encourages her. "Don't give up."

"It's alright now," Mikoto coos softly at him with a faint smile. Fujin shakes his head in denial.

"No it is not! You have to live! I-H-He is finally able to see you again!" Fujin could feel his tears well up as he fights to keep his identity a secret, "You must fight to live! So that child no longer has to suffer from emptiness anymore."

Fujin holds her hand tightly with his own. He can no longer feel those large, warm hands he once grasped long ago. Mikoto seems to smile even more at this gesture as she hears the Hunter's desperate pleas, "Please... Don't go."

"I... I want to see Ka-Kamui one last time," Mikoto murmurs and Fujin foolishly complies, releasing her hand from his. He knows already, it was too late for her. Bringing her upper body up like he is hugging her so her eyes can see Kamui without using any strength. Softly she coos to her crying child, "Don't cry... I l-love y... Kamui."

She coughs out blood and Fujin can see her eyes beginning to dull too much like many he seen before. Mikoto doesn't move her head but her hand upwards to Fujin. One last time she sighs a tired whisper, "I love... you, T...."

Her sentence stops when her breath stops. Her sore but now unmoving voice box could not finish what she wanted to say. The hand she painstakingly lift falls with a quiet thud. It hits Fujin's chest and slides down his vest, leaving a trail of blood on the dazzling white of the synthetic fabric.

Fujin restrains the cry that threatens to break out of his throat. With unbelievable care that a stranger shouldn't have for another, the Hunter places the shell of the woman he loved on the floor. He tears his glove off and close those open eyes shut to not leave blood on them. Then he wipes the red liquid from her frozen lips, that holds a smile to make her look more at peace.

Fujin rises and Leo who didn't add anything else to the conversation rises with him. There is still unfinished business that he has to do. This is the only chance he can learn what she had meant.

"Do you care to explain?" Fujin starts as he walks over to his bow, "What did she mean by brother-in-law? What did you promise her?"

Garon doesn't respond and he twist his foot onto Kamui to stop her attempt to escape. Fujin frowns at his actions and ask once again, "Does that promise extends to her?"

Fujin gestures at Kamui with his bow in hand. The older man looks down at the girl beneath him. He looks at Fujin in silence and Fujin knows that Garon doesn't have to answer him, but he did, "I took her older sister Arete as my second wife, after she separated from Kamui's father who was a vampire. That's when I learned about the blood that runs through their veins, the sacred blood."

The moment Garon finished is the moment Fujin lost touch with color. He finally understood how pointless his actions were now. Fujin could only laugh at his failure, "Sacred blood huh? You mean of all people she could be, she had to be that."

Fujin shakes his head in defeat and continues, "There were so many signs that told me that."

Fujin now remember her unexplainable precognitive abilities, Iago revolted expression at her blood, her calmness despite being close to death. Sacred blood, humans who are unable to turn into vampires and wield unimaginable powers. Despite being biologically human, vampires detest the taste of their blood. In the past, many famed Hunters held that bloodline but the knowledge of the blood was erased. It was due to said power of the blood that cause outsiders to forget about its existence. The only way Fujin knew was because of the Rainbow Sage who had a connection with the sacred blood.

However more questions dawns into Fujin's head and as if Garon could read his mind answers for him, "That woman didn't know how she was able to conceive a child, but she had a fear. She was suppose to be unable to see the future of others holding the sacred blood. However she saw one where it told her about Kamui. She said that Kamui is human and vampire, but her vampire side is split and lays in dormant. So she asked me to take in Kamui if she ever thirst for blood... Just like right now."

The Hunter couldn't say anything but state, "I was taught that mixed bloods are unable to consume blood nor will crave for it. But when the unbelievable happens between a vampire and a sacred blood I can only imagine that the child mutated."

Hence why Kamui has eyes as red as a ruby. A normal vampire's eyes will remain a different color until their instincts for blood awakens. Hence why Kamui's hair and skin is devoid of color and is as white as snow because the mutation caused the pigment to not saturate. Not holding the same ebony color like her mother's nor have the same warm skin tone that Mikoto had.

"Now answer me. Who told you about the sacred blood?" Garon's deep and powerful voice ask. The answer Fujin knows pull him out of his thinking. He looks directly towards Garon.

"The Rainbow Sage," Fujin answers firmly and Garon doesn't react. He stands tall with power seeping out of his frame despite his age. His foot is still holding down Kamui as she writhes in agony from her thirst. Fujin knows she's no longer human but a full fledged vampire. The shock from experiencing Mikoto's death when she also witnessed Sumeragi's must had egged her vampire blood to awaken and caused her human side to be devour and replaced. In that short span of seconds the trauma had changed her completely.

Fujin knows as Hawkeyes didn't register her as a vampire until she became rampant. Then he also know he'll be allow to do what he'll do without consequence. Say it'll be something a brother should do for his sister.

Fujin walks closer to Kamui with his bow in hand and asks Garon, "Release her. I'll take care of her right here, right now."

Leo objects, "Don't do it."

Fujin coldly replies to the boy who carefully analyzed everything, "It's my duty as a Hunter. We want peace."

Garon lifts his foot up at his words and Kamui scrambles out of it. Fujin takes in a fast breath and provokes, "Come!"

Kamui responds to him and leaps. She lands on top of him and Fujin uses his bow to guard against her nails. As expected she grabs the bow with both of her hands and uses her momentum to make him hit the bookcases that line against the wall. They fall to a position between sitting and laying. Hunger in her eyes and teeth pointed Fujin can tell how much she had suffered.

Fujin begins to unzip his vest and lower his bow. Daring to attempt this he lifts his scarf up to expose his neck, waiting for the pain to come. As he imagined, it hurt like a mule.

The sharp teeth of Kamui sink into his trapezius. Fujin bites his scarf and drops his bow from the excruciating pain. He can feel her move his clothes as she search for a more comfortable position. Her clumsy bites mark his flesh multiple times and it feels like she's trying to tear it off. Eventually she finds the right spot and drinks deeply. Fujin feels the familiar sensation of his blood flowing in reverse to fulfill her appetite. Her nails digs into his back and creates long, uneven scratches in his skin. An amateur mistake from trying to latch onto their prey.

"Slow down Kamui, that hurts," Fujin breathes out from his agony, starting to rub her back to soothe her, "Take your time. I won't run, so drink until you're full."

Fujin keeps rubbing her back to tell her that it'll be alright and that she is safe in his arms. Time ticks on as they stay entangled and slowly he can feel her regain her sanity. His ears can hear her sniffle as she continues to sink her teeth in him however she isn't sucking out his blood as fast as before. Eventually she releases her fangs and just rub her face into his neck. She didn't care if she got more blood onto her face, she just wanted to cry. So Kamui did, her warm tears falling onto the other as she repeated the word 'mother' again and again.

Kamui now has her arms wrap around Fujin's torso and Fujin did the same to her. As the two embrace Fujin looks up and ask Leo, "Do you know this girl?"

Leo nods and Fujin lifts Kamui away from him like a newborn kit and says, "Good night, fallen Child of Light."

Fujin pushes Kamui away and in her surprise finds too much warmth and gentleness from a man she didn't know. Perhaps it was because he reminded her the faint memories of her father.

The Hunter stands and disguises his anemia fatigue by grabbing his bow and salvageable arrows before apologizing, "Sadly my client mainly wanted Iago dead and if possible try to save the captured humans. I hope my next hunt will not involve you next time."

"Leave the traitor's body," Garon demands more than request it.

Fujin bows and turns to walk down the corridor and find Iago's corpse. Brutally ripped apart and his head so dismantled that its unrecognizable, even the hair had been torn out without mercy. Barely satisfied that Iago is dead he walks again towards the end of the corridor. The path is empty and ends with a trapdoor in the ceiling. Fujin opens the unlocked door to find himself in the gardens far away from the mansion building and like before, no one but him is here.

He scans the area and stealthily leaves the grounds. Luck on his side since the dogs and guards are still asleep from his earlier intrusion. Then he runs towards the woods and back to another base he temporarily set up. There he changed and washed the blood off of him as he cleaned his tools. After that he takes care to bandage all of his wounds in a way to hide them. However he is pressed for time since morning is coming. He has to hurry or else Ryoma will notice his absence.
