Chapter 3 - 404: Portal Found
Dream stared down at where George used to be, now a pile of armour and tools. He picked up needed items and moved the mask to cover his face again.
Should I have done that? What if he thinks I'm ugly? You shouldn't care so much... George isn't one to judge by looks. Right?
Embarrassed, angry, relieved. Three main emotions when you do something you didn't want to.
He sighed, and pulled out the blaze rods he collected. Crushing them into a chalky powder, all that was needed was more ender pearls. Two was a rather pitiful amount. When combined, the blaze powder removed the sclera, or whatever it was, on the ender pearl, turning it into a blob shape, before hardening.
Dream watched as the eye of ender floated out of his palm and to the left. Following and picking it up on the way, he headed west, killing any endermen he came across. Which was none.
"Dream?"
"What?"
"Why won't you show me what you look like?" George asked quietly. He almost forgot that he was there.
"I don't know," he sighed. "It would be a bit cliche to say that I'm not confident in my looks, but I'm sometimes worried that people will only talk to me because they think I do look good. For whatever reason."
"Oh... If it helps, I don't won't judge you."
"'Kay." He threw the eye again and watched it turn north. Towards spawn.
"So... are you not going to wear the mask?"
"What, didn't get a good enough look?" he chuckled, hoping to get some sort of reaction out of George.
"Ugh, Dream, you know what I meant."
Heh, he's so cute when he's flustered, he thought without really thinking. I- Cute? Where did that come from? He shook his head, returning to the task at hand.
The eye led him to a gash in the ground, a ravine, where cracked stone bricks peeked through the stone walls.
What was a bit concerning, was that George had been silent for the last couple minutes that they'd been travelling, and the forest surrounding spawn couldn't be more than a thousand blocks away.
The thought that George could be anywhere near here made his hair stand on end. That same sort of feeling when you think you're being watched. Or like bugs crawling all over you.
Speak of the devil... The shine of armour reflected through the trees, on the other side. Heh, George is on the other side of the gorge.
He had the tracking compass in hand and was going the long way around, instead of bridging across.
At the first chance, Dream jumped down, landing in a small pool of water, immediately soaking his clothes. Nearby lava warmed him up as he tore through the pre-broken bricks.
"Oh, Dream~" George's voice called. He looked up and saw him staring back with a devilish grin.
Crap. Easing through the gap in the wall and blocking it off again, Dream raced through the stronghold, ignoring George's giggling in the background.
"George!" Dream yelled. "How do you already have full iron?"
"You don't think that I thought I wouldn't die? I made a backup," he giggled.
"So you're admitting that you'd die and I'm better?" he teased.
"No! It was a smart move."
"Whatever, George." Pulling out a torch, Dream wandered through the cold halls, pausing at chests, looking for loot. Two diamonds here, for a new sword, more bread, and string for a bow. A lone ender pearl sat in another chest, along with some zombie remnants. Other than that, it's junk.
"Oh, Dream~" George drawled. Footsteps echoed through the maze, even after Dream stopped walking.
"Oh, George..." he teased back. He could feel George pause, as though deciding whether Dream was faking a trap or not. "Why don't you come kill me, hm?"
"Have you even found the portal room?"
Curse my stupid navigation skills.
He kept going, sometimes digging into a wall or two. Lava bubbled nearby and silverfish hissed. The hallway turned and opened up to the entrance to the End. Seven of the keys to the portal were already laid out; Dream only needed one more.
On cue, an enderman croaked behind him, alerting his presence to the speedrunner. The lanky creature stood at the entrance, staring at the intruder curiously. Careful not to look at it, Dream walked behind it, only to stab it in the back.
Purple blood stained the new sword as the enderman screamed in rage. Its long fingers raked across Dream side, drawing blood as well, but the fight was short-lived. After a few more strikes, the black creature lay on the floor dead.
Dream crouched down and used the tip of the sword to pry its eye out of its socket. Before he could grab the second, the body faded into a white smoke. But one was enough.
Why are they called ender pearls if they come from the endermans' eyes? Are they like clams?
Brittling the other eyes, he returned to the portal, only to be slammed against the hard bricks. George raised his sword up to Dream's throat menacingly.
"George!" he gasped, trying to pull away. He grinned up at Dream's struggling figure and continued pressing the blade against his skin, slowly drawing blood. "Wait!"
"Why should I?"
"I'll show you my face," he blurted out. What have I agreed to...
George paused, frowning. "You wouldn't," he said, as though trying to convince himself that was true. But he backed up either way.
No getting out of it now. He sighed, reaching up to untie the mask. He fiddled with the strings and looked expectantly at George, who was just staring at him. Rolling his eyes, Dream pushed past him. "So, uh, that's why I don't show my face," he explained, placing the three needed eyes in their slots.
"What do you mean?" George said, raising his voice to talk over the roar of the End portal activating.
"You know what I mean," he snarked, ready to jump.
"If you think that I think you're ugly, then you're wrong," he said quietly.
That caught him off-guard. Regaining his composure, he teased George. "Aw, are you saying that I'm handsome~?"
"I- I didn't say that," he stuttered, his face turning red.
Laughing, Dream put the mask back on and fell into the starry portal.
