I got REAL BORED and made aesthetics for my babies— I mean my characters... ANYWHO here's Constance since I did her first.
This is kind of a weird chapter. It's like a recap/talking chapter. It wasn't my favorite to write and it won't be your favorite to read. You can just kind of... skim through it. Or look for something that you're confused about. There's a couple things that are explained but the not HUGE things. This one is unedited so eh. It still took a month to write lol. The next chapter should be out within the next week or so, my Summer schedule has been BUSY. Hope you guys are having a great day!
Zach woke up about six hours later, still tired, but ignoring it. He was exhausted still, not even six hours made up for all that he lost.
Colin ended up getting worried and dropping by, which left Zach with a lot of questions. Why was there a vampire in our house? A Gold no less. Why is Dallas cool with this? Why did he just kiss you oh my god!? Amongst other ones.
It was kind of cute how protective he was being. Not that he could do anything but it was funny.
I ran a hand through my hair as Colin pulled the down dining room table closer to me. We were all in a tight knit group at the end of the Black dining table.
The sun was slowly edging down, blazing through the empty frame of the sliding door. Snow poured into the house, and the coldness made Zach far too uncomfortable. We piled blankets and jackets onto him.
I took a deep breath, fiddling with my hands. "Where do I begin?"
"How about the beginning because last I heard you killed Colin Gold. And now he's your boyfriend. Oh muh god how long have I been gone?" Zach rubbed his temples.
"How about you start where Becker and Konrad came in hours ago and ruined your house!? What happened?" Colin asked, angrily looking at the shards of glass scattered around the house.
Dallas was glaring at the mess too. "We should start coming up with a reason for mom not to kill us. She's gunna be pissed Everly." He looked around the messy house, broken furniture, glass-less window panes, and broken China from a thousand years ago.
He was right. "Okay, we'll tell her that it wasn't our fault and please don't kill us, we blame it on Becker and a crazy immortal witch trying to slaughter her children!" I yelled, slightly standing up. I shook my head and say back down. "Sorry. Just... now isn't the time for jokes."
Dallas licked his lips in shame and looked down. "The beginning."
I held Colin's hand under the table, our hands resting in my lap.
"In late October I went out for a hunt, for a vampire who had broken the law and was going to school at twenty. Full grown. Little did I know, it was Colin Gold. We fought for a minute, drawing blood. Until... an Ash Rose came up from the ground. Now an Ash Rose is when you can't kill each other because you're supposed to be in love. We decided to meet in secret and well... I don't know."
As I thought about it now, what were we thinking back them? What was I thinking. Sure the Prophesy ended up fake and just a pawn in Konrad's game but we thought it was real. We were willing to start a world war for what reason?
Colin must have been thinking the same because he squeezed my hand nervously and put his hand up to his mouth to bite his lip.
"I came home that night to find that Clay Gold killed Felix and took Fiona and Moira, Felix's Niece." I steadied myself to lay the next bit of information on Zach. "However, it was not Clay that killed Felix. We all wondered how someone so weak compared to the Great Hunter Felix could take him down. And that's because Konrad killed him. Fiona, our big sister, escaped. Our parents and Kasparov went to Ireland to find Clay or bury Felix, I'm not exactly sure why they went. Fiona didn't trust our dad and mom, because she knew what really happened—"
Dallas held his hand up, cutting me off. "You missed something. Konrad wasn't fully risen then. Becker just recently did that. Konrad can't kill if he isn't fully risen. It really was Clay who killed him." Dallas said. "Konrad must have teleported him there and back. Konrad might have been there to grab Fiona, but he didn't kill Felix."
I looked to Colin who was glaring at the table. He had a reason to be upset, he did. But I was going at this logically. It was soon to happen anyways, Felix dying. It just happened to be his father that killed him.
"Okay, well, while Kas was there he found Fiona and hid her in a warehouse. She was safe." And how much did I hate Kas? Did I still hate my uncle? Did he have a retribution before he died? It's funny, it's like he knew he was going to die. He started to be nice just before his death. "He also hid mom. I still don't know where she is." I admitted quietly, not sure if Zach knew.
Gauging by his sad but not surprised look, I'm guessing he already did.
"Back home, Hunters, Kora and Noah and their child Zali, were watching us. While I was at work, Everly was out with her newfound boyfriend, Colin Gold. While we were away, Konrad's men kidnapped Zali and... well you, Zach." Dallas set a hand on Zach's shoulder. "Becker had come back by this point, and tried to map find you guys but it didn't work. He even ordered the spirits of the Salem Of The Old Witches." He smiled weakly at Zach. "We didn't do nothing while you were gone little brother."
Zach chuckled. "Great to know that I was so far gone even Becker couldn't find me." He said sarcastically.
I huffed out a breath. "Around this time is also when Colin's little sister got taken." I said, throwing that out there. "Constance was out with the werewolves, and was watching some little human girl named Kate. I didn't think she was important but this human is Alpha Arlis Of Sovereign Pack's mate."
Dallas's mouth dropped. "No way. But the Prophesy—"
"I'll get there," I promised, "After Becker tried to force Salem Of The Old Witches to help him, Uncle Kas told me that Becker was his son. That the reason Konrad killed Aunt Wren, Connie's mom, is because of Becker. A day later I come to find that Colin has a brother, Konnor. Who is married to a chick named Cassidy."
I looked around the room, looking at everyone's bored faces. They didn't care. Was this stuff everyone already knew?
"Clay told me that he was sent Felix's dagger. And that's something special that a Hunter doesn't just lose. Unless you're me, because mine is gone." I shrugged, thinking about where mine was. It was lost in between the fights and the moving. "It didn't make much sense then, but it does now. Clay needed an excuse to be Quebec, more than just the kids. Konrad was staying in Quebec and Clay wanted to be there."
Dallas widened his eyes. "Where's the dagger now?"
I shrugged back. "Who knows."
Was the dagger still with Clay? Or did he leave it at the house? If it was at Colin's house could I use it?
"Shortly after that, Becker went missing Colin came to the idea that it was a trap if we went looking for him, that he was being held by Konrad. I wanted to go looking anyways. But, Konrad came to us that night and told me that Becker was working for him. That Becker made a deal with him. He told me that something big was going down on Christmas— today. We thought it would be the children's bodies." It came out sad and sullen, a thought I wish would have never been a possibility. But... Becker did make a deal with Konrad. He's been planning and scheming and something... something is going on in Becker's head that I haven't fully comprehended. "Becker made a deal, he stays with Konrad and the kids go free. I mean... Konrad doesn't need a Hunter army if he has Becker." I looked to Zach.
How many kids were worse off than him? I couldn't deny it, I knew he had special treatment. Becker wouldn't let anything bad happen to him. And Constance was there too.
"Alexzandria Gold went Atrax—"
"No-Soul. Remember? That's what Hunters call it." Dallas quipped.
I rolled my eyes and mocked him. "She went No-Soul and is working for Konrad. I don't exactly know what's up with her, but she's there for something."
Dallas nodded. "Distraction?"
I shook my head back at him. "I don't think so. Konrad doesn't really need a distraction."
He really didn't. He had power, or at least for a moment he did. He didn't need a distraction because he could take care of us himself.
"With a thumb now on Becker, Konrad was able to make him kill off Alphas. I still don't grasp why that had to happen either, but it means something. I'm just not sure what yet. I thought it was a distraction too but why waste power for that? It also could have been a show of power, but... I'm not sure." I shoved that information to the front of my mind, I needed to explore that concept.
Why kill off Alphas?
"This led to the idea that Konrad's chains to hell were broken. But Becker had only just then started working for Konrad, so who broke the chains? Another Salem Of The Old Witch." I said and Zach looked... unsurprised.
Colin was an umbra, sulking and quiet. Dark. This was his little sister. The nine year old. Nine? Was she really only nine?
Dallas however blew out a hot breath. "Another?"
"I knew it." Zach snapped his fingers. "I-I-I-I knew it."
I raised an eyebrow. "You did?"
Zach nodded. "Well duh? I am the smart one."
I held my hands up defensively. "Okay Zach."
He smiled brightly at me. "Anyways, continue."
"So I went to Sovereign Territory to see if Arlis had followed Constance and Beck's footsteps. As soon as I got there, Konrad and Becker all but killed me. It wasn't a fun time. While there, Arlis wanted to come up with a way to kill Konrad." I thought about mentioning the illegal Weeper's Tears he had but decided against it. We could slide that under the rug. "He wanted Uncle... Uncle Kas's help. Oh, Colin... before I left I told Arlis to look out for your mom." I explained, cringing at the memory of her black eyes and the disgusting black goop falling from her mouth.
Colin did nothing, but sat in his chair blank faced.
I was expecting Dallas to be mad, or at least have something to say. But he was just... quiet.
"I called Kas and he..." I didn't want to explain this out loud, but everyone needed all the details. "Kas wanted me to find dirt on Clay Gold so he would have a valid reason to kill him."
Colin shook his head. "But they have... a blood rose. They stale mated. They can't kill each other."
I shrugged. "I don't exactly know what he was thinking, Uncle Kas was acting different before he died. But he wanted me to find a reason to kill Clay."
Colin didn't seem to be mad. If anything he seemed to agree with the idea of killing his dad. "Why did he need a reason?"
I pursed my lips. "If there was one thing my uncle had going, it was being equal. Too equal. Too fair. Too just. He was so worried about never being corrupt that he almost killed his daughter for it." Uncle Kas's stupid extraness. Why was he so obsessed with it? "He wouldn't do it for no reason."
Colin bit his lip. "Well I'll give him that." He grumbled.
I realized as the story went on that it got darker and darker, the events tumbling around like a towel in a dryer. I wanted to put a shield over my life but I feel like even if I did that... I'd still get hurt.
"So Colin and I were going to search his dad's office. I called Oliver, the British genius Hunter, and I was supposed to get a flash drive from home. But on our way out, Becker came in and... attacked us. But not to kill. I think he wanted to take Colin but he didn't. During the attack he magicked me to Canada at dad's House. Where I uh..." I didn't exactly want to say it out loud.
Oh yeah, I cried and told him all my secrets and that's why my dad wanted kill my boyfriend. Haha, aren't I smart?
Dallas rose his eyebrows up. "Told Dad that you and Colin had a thing? Yeah. I was there."
The context sunk in the air, leveling down on our shoulders.
Hi, I'm Everly and I'm in rehab because apparently I have an obsession with letting all my secrets out.
"Dad and I started to come back home, here, but Uncle Kas stopped him. So me and Uncle Kas were going to come home, leaving my dad, Dallas, and Clay Gold in Canada." I explained.
Zach widened his eyes, and I knew there were a lot of questions he probably had about that one event.
"What!? Was Uncle Kas going with you to kill Colin? Why were they with Clay Gold? He's a Hunted." Zach glanced to Colin, looked him up and down and then winced slightly. "My bad."
Colin ignored him. Unlike most people, he had the nerve a dignity to not argue with Zach.
"Uncle Kas, before he died, was the oldest Hunter in the world, making him the automatic leader of all the Hunters. He wanted the mix and mingle of supernaturals. At first I didn't get it, and then I realized that he had once mingled in the likes of a witch. That witch was Polyphema Reinheart, Konrad's wife. From that mingle came Becker." It made sense now. He understood, to an extent, that love couldn't and shouldn't be limited by anything. Of all the people in my family to accept me, who woulda thought that it would have been the notorious Kasparov Dawn?
"No way! That's why Konrad hated Uncle Kas so much." Dallas leaned back in the kitchen chair, disbelief written on his face. "God. And who's the other Salem Of The Old Witch?"
"My Dad is Konrad Reinheart's son." Colin let it out heavily, almost like it was just now hitting him. "My grandparents are Konrad and Polyphema Reinheart. The other Salem is my little sister." Colin purses his lips. "Becker is technically my uncle."
Dallas snorted. "Wait so aren't you related to Everly?"
Colin and I looked at each other for a maniacal second and then Colin breathed out heavily. "No, because Kas is not my dad. Everly isn't related to Polyphema or Konrad. The only reason she's related to Becker is through her uncle." He huffed back and looked to me. "You aren't related to Polyphema or Konrad are you?"
I shrugged and then poked his cheek on his horrified face. "I'm kidding. I'm not I'm not. At least not that I know of."
"ANYWAYS! Back on track Everly, I want to go back to sleep." Zach yelled, snapping his fingers together.
I glared at him and then continued telling what I had gone through. "On our way back home we stopped at Becker's mansion, I repeat mansion. Kas was getting stuff for a— a uh... potion? We talked to a witch named Sisca, Polyphema's sister. I don't actually know what he was getting, or if it was for her." I paused and looked at them. "That's where Konrad is hiding out. Konrad fought us and— Constance and Becker killed Uncle Kas."
"No. Connie." Zach covered his mouth. "Why did she kill him?"
I closed my eyes. "I'll get to that. Trust me. Becker teleported me home, where I had a sort of a... mental breakdown. I called Kora for help and she told me she was working for Konrad. So I called Sisca to try and get her to raise him from the dead." I wanted to fall asleep, follow what Zach wanted to do, but I knew I had to finish this.
"Everly you know nobody can raise the dead. The closest we can get is necromancers, and they only bring their essence up. And they are grouchy non human things." Dallas grabbed my free hand and sighed.
"Yeah I know. I got stabbed by a lotus poisoned Hunter's blade and was rushed to the hospital where our dead grandmother put her blood in me." I chuckled at Dallas and Zach's estranged faces. I didn't elaborate on the situation. "Anyways, she said she couldn't. I had felt the air get cold and Konrad showed up and was trying to get me to switch to his side. I don't know why he's so adamant about me moving to his side, it doesn't make any sense."
Dallas made a whistling noise through his teeth. "As per usual, Konrad probably knows something we don't."
That's what scared me. It scared me how right Dallas was. What did Konrad know?
"So you and Dad showed up, and Konrad forcibly took me and Colin back to the mansion in Canada. I went through a lot of annoying and unneeded teleporting. God I hate that." I visibly shuddered. "So, while I was there I learned that Leslie was working for Konrad. I learned that Becker and Constance had a pact with our Uncle Kas that if he got taken, the they would kill him. And they did. The Prophesy is fake, only set there for tension and such. Constance is a spy for Uncle Kas. Konrad learned this because Becker gave Konrad that information. I also learned that... Becker..." I stopped and everyone looked at me with expectance. I had to tell them. "Konrad had magic stored away and... wouldn't tell Becker where it was. And Becker didn't have the dagger that transferred power anyways. So... Becker sent Konrad to hell and then chained him there. Becker never killed Konrad." It was an explanation I wish I never had to give.
"Becker no." Zach gasped. "He didn't... he..."
"Wanted more power." I finished.
Dallas slapped the table. "We need to stop defending him. I don't understand why he doesn't just steal a Hunters dagger, teleport to Arlis and stab him, and then teleport behind Konrad and then stab him."
I scratched my head. Why didn't he just do that? "Because..."
"When you teleport with the blood on a blade, it disappears. That's what Becker told Connie when she asked him why he didn't do that." Zach looked at Dallas and bit his lip. "We do need to stop defending him."
I tilted my head. "This is Becker we're talking about."
"Who's still going after power." Dallas coughed. "Who has continuously betrayed us."
"He saved mom. He has her hidden somewhere so Konrad doesn't get her." I would continue to defend Becker. Just like I would all my family members.
Dallas rolled his eyes. "Enough of this "Well it's Becker" thinking. Becker has changed, Everly. Stop trying to believe anything different. He betrayed everyone back then by not killing Konrad." He was fed up with me but quite frankly, I didn't care. "Why does Konrad want mom? She isn't special. Becker is hiding her. From us. He killed Uncle Kas for crying out loud, sis."
"He's... they had a pact!" I yelled.
"Fine. Kill me if I taken by Konrad. Kill me. Please." He asked, dead serious in by all means.
"I... you don't mean that." It was my only comeback.
"You wouldn't be able to do it. So why was Becker so okay with doing it if he's such a great person." He set back in his seat, looking at me while my mouth bobbed up and down trying to form words. "If Becker is so strong and just and powerful, why didn't he teleport Arlis and Constance to this very room when Konrad was chained to the floor and scared."
I didn't have an answer. "I trust him!"
"Off of what!? Name one thing he's done good since he got here." Dallas stood up and pushed his chair in. "Not a single damn thing. Nobody has done anything except Arlis and Fiona. And surprisingly, you."
I looked at Zach who was silent for once. "He saved Zach."
"And Leslie healed me. Leslie took care of me. But does that make her death suddenly bad? Because she also hurt other kids. She also tortured Sophia so she would do what Konrad wanted." Zach stood up and pushed his own chair in. "Is there more, Everly, or are we done here?"
"Both of you sit your asses back down at this table. Okay, so what. Becker might not be a great guy anymore but guess what? There's still more." I pointed to the seats that they both were no longer sitting in.
Dallas huffed out a breath. "Why? So you can sit here and defend Becker."
"So that I can give you more reasons to hate him!" I screamed. "Do you want to know or not!?"
Together, they sat down.
"I also found that Constance was pregnant when she was fighting Konrad. She lost a child in killing him." I said sadly, not able to meet anyone's face.
Colin stretched his arm around me and kissed my temple. It was a much needed gesture that made me feel safer but... also more vulnerable. I still had people to lose, things that could ruin me. Konrad could still take from me.
"Oh Constance." Dallas shook his head.
I nodded back. "Colin, Connie, Sophia and I started to run away but Connie... and Clay... got stuck behind us, trying to help us. We achieved in getting away."
Dallas smiled at me. "Yes! Go little sis. Escaping witches and busting asses." He was trying to lighten the mood and I was proud to say that it worked.
I rolled my eyes, laughing. My laugh was cut short though when I remembered what happened next. So much for light heartedness.
"The only way Sophia would come home with us, was if we went and got her friend out of Leslie's house. Which is also apparently where Fiona was. So I called Sisca, the witch, and had her teleport me, Colin, and Sophia there. And then she teleported you and dad. And... I don't know how Arlis and them got there but..."
"Becker." Zach finished. "Becker was talking to Clay about how they had a shot to kill Konrad. That everyone was meeting up at Leslie's."
Oh. Well there we go.
I looked to Colin. "And last night... Sophia went missing. Again."
Dallas popped his back. "Well... sounds to me like you've been through a lot."
I nodded. "Yeah. What about you? What did you find?"
He shook his head. "Literally nothing. We found that everything is going down in Canada but... you guys already knew that."
We nodded our heads.
"You really suck at this." I laughed.
He laughed too. "I know! I know! But... whats the next step?" He asked.
"Nap time." Zach said.
I rose an eyebrow. "I don't think that's the priority here, Zach."
Zach cracked his neck. "It should be." Nobody disagreed.
I nodded. "Okay."
"We should go find Felix's dagger, Eve. See if It's back at my house. See what my dad knows. Go through everything." Colin stood up. "You guys can rest but... I'm not sleeping until I get my sister back." He left the table and walked outside, alt saying a single goodbye to anyone.
Zach walked to the couch and laid down, leaving the kitchen table to just me and Dallas.
"So if the Prophesy is fake... Th Ash rose was fake too. One of you guys would've died that night?" Dallas asked, looking out the door.
I nodded. "Yeah." Thanks for bringing that back up, DALLAS!
Dallas narrowed his eyes at the door. "Who would've done it?"
"Well isn't that the million dollar question." I replied.
