Chapter 24
Warning: Final chapter. Enjoy :)
Applejack's eyes wandered around the room. She tried not to concentrate on her sweaty palms or her fast-paced heart rate.
She silently counted backwards from ten.
Fifteen times. Applejack shifted from foot to foot, her hands starting to play with her dress.
Any second now Rainbow would walk through the doors, looking stunning and breathtaking and Applejack is going to have to talk to the princess in front of everyone.
She bit her bottom lip, taking a few deep breaths, attempting to calm herself down.
"Applejack."
Applejack looked over her shoulder. Pinkie and Twilight stood there.
"We're Rainbow Dash is just as nervous as you are." Twilight told her. "She's the one that the whole kingdom is going to be looking at, so you'll have nothing to worry about."
Applejack sighed.
"It ain't that. It's just the fact that ah'm getting married t'day. With everyone watching and listening. What if I trip over mah words ir somethin??."
"When you do talk look at Rainbow Dash," Twilight instructed. "And just talk to her. Pretend like no one else is around and it'll be just having a conversation with her. Don't worry about anything but her and you'll be fine."
Applejack nodded.
"And we'll be right here if you girls need us."
Pinkie gave Applejack a thumbs up.
"You got this, Applejack." She whispered loudly.
Suddenly music began to play. Applejack turned around, looking at the entrance. A choir that was positioned on either side of the aisle, along with the guards. Applejack gulped, preparing herself.
Here we go.
The double doors swung open and in walked the flower girl with an adult escort. Applejack smiled. It was a girl from the village orphanage. The little girl was so adorable in her little dress, her hair done as well. Rainbow's mother obviously had picked it all out.
Then came Rainbow Dash.
Applejack's jaw went slack.
Man. Rainbow was.......... beautiful. The princess walked down the aisle, her father right beside her.
Rainbow had her eyes on the floor, looking around every so often. Everyone stared in awe at her.
How could they not?? She was captivatingly stunning. Her dress hugged her in all the right places and she looked amazing in her dress and tiara.
The picture of perfection.
As Rainbow and King Lightning approached the alter, Rainbow looked up. She and Applejack locked eyes. Rainbow's jaw dropped slightly.
Her father had to assist her up to Applejack because Rainbow wasn't watching her footsteps and nearly walking into things, since her eyes were glued to the huntress.
The king positioned himself and his daughter in front of Applejack. Rainbow looked at her dad.
The priest stepped forward. The music and singing died down. It went silent.
"Who gives this young woman away??." The priest asked.
"I do." King Lightning declared loud and proud.
The man turned to his daughter and kissed her forehead.
"I love you, honey."
Rainbow smiled.
"I love you too, Papa."
The king took Rainbow's left hand and took Applejack's hand as well. He joined their hands. Applejack gripped Rainbow's hand gently yet firmly. The king smiled at Applejack who smiled in return and gave a nod of her head.
The king stepped back.
The two teens turned to each other.
The officiant began his long and boring speech that all weddings have. As he talked, Rainbow stared deeply into Applejack's eyes. Man. Today was the day they'd get married. Applejack would be her wife in a just a few minutes. She thought back to when she first met Applejack.
If she hadn't been caught in that net, she would've never met Applejack, Twilight, or Pinkie. Rainbow sometimes wondered how different her life would've been if she hadn't met them. But she's so thankful she did. She wouldn't be getting married.
That was for sure.
"And now for the rings."
Rainbow was snapped out of her thoughts. Rainbow blinked, a bit lost at what was going on.
Oh yeah. The ceremony. She looked at the officiant then at Applejack. Applejack was given the ring. Applejack took Rainbow's left hand and slipped the gold band on a little.
"Now repeat after me." The man instructed. "I, Applejack Smith."
"Ah Applejack Smith."
"Give you this ring."
"Give you this ring."
"As a symbol of my eternal love and devotion to you."
"As a symbol of mah eternal love n' devotion ta you."
"I promise."
"Ah promise."
"To love you."
"Ta love you."
"To honor you."
"Ta honor ya."
"Protect you."
"Protect ya."
"And support you everyday for the rest of our lives."
"N' support cha everyday fir the rest of our lives."
The officiant nodded his head.
"You may put on the ring."
Applejack slipped the ring on all the way. The metal gave Rainbow Dash a chill of excitement. This was her wedding ring.
Rainbow went next. She was given the ring for Applejack. She took Applejack's left hand and held the ring up so it was around the tip of her ring finger.
"I, Princess Rainbow Eden Dash."
"I, princess Eden Dash."
"Give you this ring."
"Give you this ring."
"As a symbol of my eternal love and devotion to you."
Rainbow's smile widened.
"As a symbol of my eternal love and devotion to you."
"I promise."
"I promise."
Rainbow made an emphasis on the word promise.
"To love."
"To love."
"To honor."
"To honor."
"To protect."
"To protect."
"And to support you everyday for the rest of our lives."
Rainbow held back a laugh. The smile wouldn't leave her face and nearly hurt.
"And to support you everyday for the rest of our lives."
"You may put the ring on."
Rainbow Dash slipped the ring on Applejack's finger. The two teens held hands.
"Now," the officiant said. "Let us begin the vows."
Rainbow inhaled and then exhaled, attempting to calm her nerves.
The man looked at Rainbow Dash.
"Princess Rainbow Eden Dash, do you take Applejack Smith to be your wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her, for as long as you both shall live?."
Rainbow exhaled and nodded.
"I do."
Then he turned to Applejack.
"Applejack Smith, do you take Princess Rainbow Eden Dash to be your wedded wife, to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her, for as long as you both shall live?."
Applejack gently squeezed Rainbow's hands.
"Ah do."
"I now pronounce you wedded."
He took one hand and motioned between the two, backing up.
"You may kiss."
Rainbow and Applejack smiled. Applejack pulled Rainbow Dash towards her. They leaned in, closing their eyes. Their lips pressed together softly. Rainbow gently cupped Applejack's face with her hands. The kiss sent sparks through her body. Her blood pumped through her veins.
She almost couldn't hear the thunderous applauding and cheering around the room.
It was magical. Just how she always dreamed it'd feel in this day.
They pulled apart slowly, looking at each other. Applejack giggled while Rainbow Dash blushed. They both looked around at the audience.
Rainbow looked over Applejack's left shoulder to see Pinkie and Twilight clapping and cheering, huge smiles of joy on their faces.
Rainbow giggled and looked at her wife.
"You do realize this means you're royalty now, right??."
Applejack's eyes widened for a moment.
"Ah totally firgot 'bout that. Ah firgot that you're a princess."
"Not for long."
Rainbow Dash and Applejack turned their heads. Rainbow's parents stood there.
"Go get changed." King Lightning instructed. "Then we'll begin the ceremony for your coronation."
Rainbow nodded. She and Applejack, along with the flower girl and their friends walked down the aisle. The crowds began to cheer as the newly wed made their way down the aisle, waving and smiling, hand in hand.
They made their way out of the room and headed down the hall to the dressing room.
Rainbow's maids were there waiting for her. Once the girls walked in, the maids began to clap.
"Congratulations, your highnesses." One woman said. "Come, now, my dear. Let's get you ready to become queen."
Rainbow was ushered onto a small platform. She was undressed.
Rainbow tried not to think of the fact that Applejack was there, watching her change.
Applejack and the others were also changing her clothes. The flower girl was taken back to the ceremony throne room to sit with everyone else.
Rainbow and Applejack were given a new set of clothes. Rainbow was wearing a dark blue and gold dress with elbow length gold silk gloves. Her dress was flowy and light on her body, it was still elegant. Her hair was changed to be let loose but a few chunks of hair were braided back and tied together. Her heels were replaced by flats.
Applejack was wearing a grass green and apple red colored dress. It had long sleeves and had a few more layers to it. She was allowed to wear boots instead of heels. Her golden locks were put into a loose braid on her left side. Locks of hair framed her face.
They were both sprayed down with perfume and lathered in lotion.
Once the maids were done, they were ready.
"You look gorgeous you highnesses."
Applejack and Rainbow looked at their reflection.
"Woah."
Rainbow grinned.
"You ladies are the best."
The maids giggled.
"Now go on." One of the maids said.
Rainbow, Applejack, Twilight, and Pinkie Pie walked out of the rest, escorted by Rainbow's mother.
They walked back to the throne room.
"We'll meet you inside." Twilight told them.
"Alright." Applejack said.
Twilight and Pinkie went inside, closing the door behind them. Rainbow and Applejack waited for their cue.
"You ready??." Applejack asked, looking at her wife.
Rainbow smiled, looking at her.
"With you here, I'm ready for anything."
"They're probably gett'n things ready inside."
Rainbow nodded in agreement. She looked at the floor, then at Applejack.
"Hey, Applejack??."
"Yeah??."
"Why......... um....... why do you love me??."
Applejack looked at her, taken by surprise by the question.
"Why??."
Rainbow shrugged. "Just curious."
Applejack turned to Rainbow. She smiled softly.
"You know. Ah remember when a first met cha. You were last thing I was expectin."
Rainbow grinned.
"Ah thought you were so beautiful. Then as we got to be friends ah always knew there was somethin' special about cha. I never though in a million years you'd turn to be a princess from another world."
"Was it a pleasant surprise??."
"It was." Applejack nodded.
She looked into Rainbow's eyes thoughtfully.
"Rainbow. Ah remember comin' here and seeing yir world. Me, Twilight, and Pinkie. Every day for a two months of knowin you, we woke up and had to pinch ourselves when we woke up in this world. We still thought we were dreaming. But we weren't. And was so glad you weren't just a dream."
Rainbow cocked her head to the side.
"Why??."
"Because," AJ replied. "You were the best thing that's ever happened to me. You changed mah life for the better. You changed how ah see the world. Ah now know that anythin' is possible. That there is more beyond mah human world. Of course, there were some times when me and the gals almost died."
Rainbow's smile fell and was replaced by a look of guilt. She looked at the floor in shame.
"Yeah. I'm sorry for-."
"It was awesome."
Rainbow's head snapped up.
"Wait, what??."
Applejack laughed. She nodded.
"It was. Ah honestly wouldn't have changed a thing."
Then her smile fell a little.
"Except, if ah could. Ah wouldn't have left you alone the day you were taken. Ah would've stayed with you and protected you, so you never wouldn't suffered like you did at the hands of your uncle and that girl that had ya mind-controlled."
"That wasn't your fault, AJ." Rainbow reasoned. "You had no idea I'd be taken. You couldn't have stopped it."
"Ah could've tried." Applejack said. "Ah would've done anythin' ta get chu back when yir uncle kidnapped you. Ah felt like mah whole world was gone."
Applejack wrapped her arms around Rainbow's waist.
"And when you sacrificed yourself ta defeat him.......Ah....."
Applejack sighed. "Ah was heartbroken. It crushed me inside ta know that ah wouldn't get the chance ta tell you how much you meant ta me at the time and that I loved you. So you can only imagine how ah felt when you woke up n' looked at me."
"I think I have a have a pretty good idea." Rainbow commented. "It was the best feeling in the world waking up to see you."
Rainbow kissed her cheek.
"And when you told you loved me, I was freaking out inside. Never thought you felt the same about me."
Applejack nodded.
"After that ah promised mahself that I'd always protect you and stay by your side, no matter the danger."
"And you plan on continuing to keep that promise??." Rainbow questioned.
Applejack lightly pressed her forehead against Rainbow's.
"You betcha. Ah love you."
Rainbow smiled.
"I love you too."
Suddenly they heard the squeaking of the door. The two looked up and saw Rainbow's father poking his head out.
"It's time. You ladies ready??."
Applejack and Rainbow broke apart and stood side by side instead.
"Ready."
The king nodded. He walked up to Rainbow.
"Rainbow. I'm a proud of you. I know that with some guidance and support, you'll be a great queen. Especially with Applejack to go through it all with you so you'll never be alone."
Rainbow smiled at her father.
"Me and your mother have been waiting for this day to come. We also dreaded since we'd be losing our little girl."
Rainbow felt herself getting emotional.
She shook her head.
"I'll always be your little girl, papa. You know that."
Rainbow hugged her father. The two embraced each other tightly. The king shed a tear or two, holding his daughter.
"I love you so much, my darling."
"I love you, too, Daddy." Rainbow sniffled.
King Lightning looked at Applejack.
"Her unwrapped one of his arms from around Rainbow and held it out to Applejack. The former huntress smiled and joined in on the hug without hesitation. The king hugged both his daughters.
"Wait a second."
Rainbow pulled away, wiping her tears eyes. She had a confused expression on her face. She looked at her dad.
"If I'm your daughter."
She pointed at Applejack.
"And she's now your daughter in law and technically your daughter now...."
She looked at Applejack.
"Does that make us sisters??."
Applejack and King lightning gave each other a look.
"Rainbow." Applejack said. "Ah think this is all messing with yir head."
The king laughed, clutching his stomach.
"That's my girl." He chuckled, shaking his head.
Suddenly loud instrumental music began to play. It was time.
"Get ready girls." The king said. "Me and my wife will be waiting for you."
The king went back inside the throne room, closing the door behind him.
Rainbow Dash and Applejack fixed themselves up a bit, standing up straight.
Rainbow exhaled. "Here we go."
A few seconds later the doors opened. The two began to walk once the double doors were fully opened.
Rainbow and Applejack walked into the room and down the aisle. Everyone was standing, bowing as the two passed by.
They could see Rainbow's parents waiting for them at the end of the aisle.
"This is so scary." Rainbow whispered.
Applejack chuckled. "We just got married, Rainbow. Ah'm sure you can handle this. Ah'm right here with you."
Rainbow relaxed a bit.
They walked with their heads held high, shoulders back, backs straight, smiling.
When they reached the end. They stepped up to Rainbow's parents.
Queen Eden was holding a pillow with the family coronation crown placed on it.
"You ready, Rainbow?." The king asked.
Rainbow looked at Applejack, biting her lip.
"I uh..... I guess...."
Applejack softly ran her thumbs over the back of Rainbow's hands.
"You're ready." She said. "Ah know you are. You'll be a great queen, RD. You can do it."
Rainbow felt much more confident after those words of encouragement.
She giggled. "This is why you're awesome."
Applejack winked. "Ah try."
Rainbow and Applejack released their hold in each other. Applejack took a step back.
The choir began to sing a soft melody.
Rainbow's father picked up the coronation crown. He held it up so everyone could see it. It shined in the light.
"Rainbow Eden Dash. You come before us all today to be crowned queen of Avalen. Do you promise to keep the customs and laws of our fair nation??. Do you swear to do everything in your power to serve, protect, and love your people??. Will you use your power to bring law and justice and mercy to all judgments??."
Rainbow swallowed.
"I solemnly promise."
Rainbow's father looked at Applejack.
"And do you??."
"Ah solemnly promise." Applejack swore.
Rainbow bowed. The crown was placed on her head. The came Applejack. She bowed and was crowned.
"I now crown you, Rainbow Eden Dash, Queen of Avalen."
The king looked at Applejack.
"And I now also crown you, Applejack smith, Queen of Avalen."
The two rose up and turned to face the people. Their people.
"Avalen." Lightning proclaimed. "Your new queens!!."
Cheers and applauded erupted from around the room.
Rainbow and Applejack smiled, looking around. They looked at each other.
"This is it, Applejack." Rainbow told Applejack. "This is our lives now. Queen. You think you're ready for this."
Applejack stared at Rainbow for a moment. Then she smiled and wrapped an arm around the fairy queen. She pressed her lips against Rainbow's temple.
"As long as ah have you in mah life to call mah wife, ah'm ready for anything."
Rainbow couldn't agree more.
"I still can't believe this is happening."
Applejack looked back at Twilight and Pinkie then at Rainbow. Her wings were sparkled and shimmered with magic.
Ironic.
"Trust me. Ah know the feeling."
