Rainbow sighed. She leaned on the stone balcony, out looking a perfect sunrise. The princess folded her wings down. She rubbed tired eyes.

Things in Avalen have gotten back to normal in the past year. Of coarse they had improved their security in the castle and out in the village. There were more guards, who had training in fighting and weapon use. They had become stronger than anyone in the village.

Rainbow's father, King Lightning, had escorts with them and Rainbow whenever Applejack wasn't around.

Applejack had trained sometimes with the guards. She had noticeably gotten stronger and she had the muscles to prove it. Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and Pinkie Pie had taught the guards how to use bow and arrows and also how shoot a moving target from close and large distances.

It was very resourceful. The king and queen were grateful for them. Applejack just said that they were just happy to be of help in protecting the fairies and Rainbow Dash from any danger. The king smiled at the hunters.

Applejack and Rainbow Dash were an official couple. Over the past few months the two were almost always together. The four teenage girls would do everything together whenever they got the chance. The kind had also appointed Applejack as Rainbow's personal protector and escort.

Whenever the blonde was in Avalen, she would be with the princess. Rainbow loved being with her girlfriend. Applejack was the best. She was caring, protective, brave, beautiful, strong. What a girl.

Rainbow's eyes were downcast. She sighed.

Suddenly two strong arms wrapped around her waist. Rainbow recognized the way the tan arms held her. A chin rested on her shoulder. Rainbow didn't say anything.

"What's wrong??", came the southern accent of the only blonde human she knew so well.

Rainbow shrugged slightly.

"I don't know", she said quietly, looking back out at the sunrise. She leaned back, feeling Applejack's body and using that to lean on.

"Have you been sleepin well??", Applejack asked, breaking the silence.
Rainbow Dash shook her head. She had been getting nightmares lately about her parents dying and then Applejack and the girls dying. This had been going on for a weeks so she hasn't slept well for a while.

Applejack was seriously concerned for the young princess. Rainbow not getting sleep had been affecting her and her duties. She had fallen asleep in many meetings or during meals with her family.

Applejack lost count how many times she's had to wake her up during breakfast when the teen was fast asleep in her chair.

It was cute but worrying. Her parents had noticed but didn't know what to do. They couldn't do anything to help with nightmares. So they just left Rainbow Dash to take naps whenever possible. Once or twice her parents let her sleep in all day with the girls to accompany her.

Somehow it helped Rainbow to get to sleep when they were in the room, more specifically, Applejack. Rainbow said it was something assuring about the blonde that helped her mind relax and rest. Today was one of those days.

"Did ja get any sleep last night??", Applejack asked.

Rainbow shook her head.

"No. I couldn't fall asleep. It was so frustrating".

Applejack rubbed her arm comfortingly.

"Well. It's only 6 in the mornin", she said. "How bout we try ta get cha ta sleep a few more hours??. Kay??".

Rainbow nodded. She turned around. Applejack saw the tired look on her face. She cupped Rainbow's face with gentle hands.

"Ah hate ta see you like this??. You haven't been sleepin. That affects yir health RD and ah don't want cha ta get sick ir somethin".

Rainbow Dash smiled, though because of how tired she was, it didn't reach her eyes. The shorter girl laced their fingers together.

"I'll be okay", she said.

She leaned up and kissed Applejack on the cheek. Wrapping her arms around her, Rainbow hugged the blonde hunter. She felt arms around her. She relaxed in her arms. She breathed the scent of pine trees and apples.

Rainbow wished she could stay in Applejack's arms forever but she was so tired, all she wanted was her bed again.

"I want my bed", she mumbled.

Applejack chuckled. She picked the princess up and carried her back inside. Applejack closed the door with her back and walked across the bedroom. Rainbow was in her night clothes so Applejack laid her down.

She tucked the princess in, humming. Rainbow snuggled into her blanket, exhausted. She forced her eyes open and looked at Applejack. The room was dark which made it a great place for naps.

"You're awesome Applejack. The best in the whole world".

Rainbow giggled. Applejack simply smiked at her.

"Thank you".

"Guess what", Rainbow said.

Applejack sat down. "Yeah??".

Rainbow giggled. "You're my girlfriend".

She sleepily giggled. Applejack chuckled at the tired princess. Rainbow Dash was obviously not thinking straight. Applejack thought she was more adorable this way but knew she shouldn't be this sleepy.

"Ah know that. We both do. Now go ta sleep. Ah'll be here when you wake up".

Rainbow closed her eyes. In seconds her body was completely relaxed and limp. Her chest rose and fell, being the only movement she did.

Applejack leaned down and kissed her forehead. She stood up and walked outside to the balcony, leaving the door opened a bit.

She sighed as she leaned on the balcony. She looked at the large village, just a few minutes away.

After all this time Applejack still couldn't get over the fact that this all was real. She couldn't believe that fairies were real. She couldn't believe that Avalen was a real place. She couldn't believe that she and her two best friends were now royal guards for a royal family. And she most certainly could not believe that the beautiful sleeping fairy princess inside that room was her girlfriend.

Applejack smiled to herself. Her life could not be any more exciting and amazing than this.
