Chapter 11: I let James join me on the quest
James and I moved through the woods as silently as we possibly could. I hated the fact that he was with me but I didn't complain. If I didn't allow him to come with me, I assumed that he would sound the alarm. When we finally got to the edge of camp and crossed over the boarder, I started off into a jog.
"Where are you going," James called after me. He started to run and caught up to me with ease.
"To go find Michael," James grabbed my arm and made me stop running.
"Well no duh," I couldn't help but laugh at how childish he sounded. "But why are you running away from me? And where are you even planning on searching; you have no clue where he is." He was right and I hated it.
"To be honest, being near you right now makes me sick to my stomach," I said truthfully. "I appreciate you helping me sneak out but that doesn't make up for all the damage you've caused." He looked down, clearly feeling guilty. "And you're forgetting that I'm a hunter of Artemis, I'll be able to track him down." James sighed and then responded.
"I understand that you probably hate me right now and I don't blame you for hating me." James began, "but I can't let you leave alone. I've already endangered Michael, if something happens to you as well then I don't think I could ever forgive myself. I see you two like my little siblings and I need you to let me go on this quest with you." At first I was listening intently to what he said but then I started to zone out. Horrible images of what Michael might be going through and of who his captors might be started to flash through my mind. When it finally clicked that James had stopped talking, I made eye contact with him and said,
"Don't think this means that I forgive you but for you can come," a small smile rose on his lips. "Don't be to happy. I'm only letting me you come so if something happens to michael, gods forbid anything does, but I need you accessible to kill if needed." James gulped and the look of fear on his face almost made me feel like I should apologize. But then I remembered that Michael was missing and decided my threat was not to extreme. "Come on," I said as I started to jog in the opposite direction of camp.
"Where are we going," James asked me.
"We need to visit one of my friends," I said. "We have to make sure we're equipped in every possible fashion in order to have the best chance of saving Michael." As much as I loved my bow and preferred it over any other type of weapon, I knew I would need to have more than just it with me on this quest. I started running faster, eager to get to our destination.
"Who's your friend," James whispered shouted after me. I smirked even though I knew that he couldn't seen me.
You'll have to wait and see," I replied. "Now be quiet before you get us caught." With that he and I quietly ran in the dark. I embraced the feeling as I ran; I felt free. Constantly checking behind me to make sure that James was still behind me, I slowly began to come up with plans for the next two weeks. I also prayed to Artemis as I ran, I asked her for guidance and begged for forgiveness. My mind wandered as I ran, which was good because the family we were headed to visit was far from living close to camp.
