Chapter 8
"Hand me the bridle." Clare said as Faith looked around the tack room. She bite her lip in cunfusion. "That one." Clare spoke again, pointing out exactly which one she wanted. "You ride the horse with the other one," she said pointing back to the wall at a different bridle. Once faith handed her the bridle Clare lifted it closer to Faith so she could take a better look. "This one has blinders on it so the horse can focus pruly on pulling the cart. The one on the wall is just for riding. You don't want to get these two cunfused because then you'll have a run away cart on your hands." She finished, lightly laughing as if recalling a memory. They brought all of the tack they had just picked out to the horse stall on the other side of the barn. "Hey Charly!" Clare said as the horse picked his head up, mouth full of hay. "Charly?" Faith laughed. "You couldn't be more original than that?" Clare rolled her eyes. "Don't listen to her." She told Charly as she rubbed his neck. "She's a bit Loco." She wispered in his ear.
Faith sat in between her mother, and Clare on the cart that Charly was currently pulling. Her mother held the reins in her hands, and occasionally would turn him In the direction that they were headed. Faith had the feeling that Charly knew where they were going because before her mother even began to tug on the reins he would already Start to turn. "So this Witch?" Faith asked. "Hazel" Ann corrected. "Yeah, so she's a real sixteen hundreds Witch?" She asked, facnatied. "I don't want to make your head hurt or anything, but tactically we are all 'real sixteen hundreds witches'. " Clare responded. "Ok" faith said, annoyance laced her voice. "But we are from the future. She was born here. she's authentic!" She finished.
Clare and Ann shared a look, then both smiled. For them it was nothing new, but for Faith it was still so sareal. Three days ago she would have laughed at the lunatic that even mentioned the possibility of Witches, but now? She was one of them. "What do I have to do to become apart of the coven?" Faith asked. She cold feel herself start to grow nervous. "Don't worry, you'll be fine." Ann said, sensing her daughters discomfort. "You don't have to do a thing." She reassured.
"First we have to determine what powers you have." Clare said after a few silent moments. "Powers?" Faith asked. "I thought witches had magic, spells?, stuff like that?" She asked.
"We do dear, but we also each hold our own special abilitys without having to create a spell." Ann replied.
Faith smiled bright light a child in a candy store. "What are yours? She said in amazement. Clare smiled, tossing her bright red hair over her sholders. Unlike faith, Clare loved being the center of attention, and took ever opportunity to show off. She brought her hands together and extended them forward cracking her knuckles in a dramatic manner. Ann rolled her eyes and pulled back on the horse's reins stopping the cart. "Your little show will have to wait," she said as she hopped out, and tied Charly to the horse post. "We are here."
They approach the small Cottage, and all faith was reminded of was the story of Hansel and Gretel. The evil witch that lured children into her home using delicious sweets. She half expected Hazel to look like the Wicked witch in the story. A old, messy gray haired woman with a large unsightly mole on her chin. When they got to the porch hazel opened the door, and greeted them with a smile. To Faiths suprise she was just the opposite of what she imagined. Hazel had light brown hair that was cut short just before her sholders. She was slim, but beautifully tall. Her face was Pleasant and walcoming, as were her hazel eyes.
"Hello." She greeted Ann, and clare with a hug. "And you must be Faith." She said as she turned towards her. "Yes," faith responded. "Wait, how did you know that?" She asked growing suspicious. Clare leaned in to Faiths ear. "It's a witch thing." She said.
"A contacting spell." Hazel corrected. Half the time hazel didn't understand what her witch friends from the future were talking about, but she tried her best. "Your mother contacted me last night, and told me about your arrival, and your planned Visit to my home. I'm delighted to meet you." She said kindly, her voice, and speech obviously different from there's due to the time gap. "Please do come inside."
They sat around a small wooden table with red trimed table cloth hanging off the edges. A single candle lit on the center of the table. Hazen began to ask faith questions. "Any clue on what your power could be?" She asked. Faith looked at her mother, who nodded her head in support. "Well, I.. I moved something with my mind a few days ago." She said nervously. "I didn't mean to, it just happened."
Hazel smiled knowingly. "Don't be scared child. This is a wonderful thing. Our coven needs a active, and strong power like telekinesis." Faith smiled, feeling a little better about the situation. "What are your powers?" She asked the group around her. She wanted to feel less isolated.
"I am a empath." Hazel said. "It's not a major power but it is very helpful. I can look into people. I can see there intentions, motives, and the kind of person they are. I can feel there emotions, and also see there memories and past actions. As a empath I'm very connected to the earth and often can see visions of the future and what's to come." She stated strongly. Faith could see way she was the leader of the coven.
"I'm a healer." Ann said. "I can heal any physical injury imaginable. Unfortunately I can not heal that nasty little gash on your head. Not when we have a dinner with the Dumas's tonight." Ann said apologetically to her daughter.
"If it were to disappear suddenly they would definitely notice." Hazel agreed.
"Finally!" Clare said as she stood up. She had been waiting to use her power for awhile. "Watch this." She said to Faith with a wink before shutting her eyes. Faith watched as Clare opened her eyes and started to tap dance, among doing other silly things only fit for a clown. Faith turned her head to Ann, and Hazel. She looked at them in cunfusion, but they seemed oblivious to what was going on. "Isn't it something?" Hazel stated, voice full of envy. "Ahh, yeah.." Faith responded, trying to understand why she found clare hopping around like a idot so fascinating.
Clare is inane.. she has the power of stupidly.. Faith thought.
She did her best not to laugh. She didn't want to disrespect whatever power she was trying to show her. Mabye she was warming up?
Clare walked over to Hazel who didn't so much as glance at her as she did. "I am Hazel." She mimicked Hazel in a high pitched tone. Faith silently gasped in shock. "Im the know it all powerful coven leader who thinks it's ok to correct every little thing that Clare does just because i don't understand or even care about the way things are done in the future." Clare stated annoyed before walking over to a oblivious Ann. Faiths eyes connected with her mothers. "Oh honey, it's ok. Active powers can be scary, but she's a pro." Ann said, patting her daughter on the arm in reassurance with a large smile on her face.
Oh god, I hope this stupidly is not contagious. She thought.
"I'm Ann," Clare started again, this time mimicking Ann in the same annoying high pitched tone. "I'm older and wiser then Clare, and even though she is a full grown 27 year old woman!," Clare yelled, but stopped for a breath, and composed herself " I still choose to treat her like a child." She finished as she turned towards Faith who looked quickly away straight at the wall. Faith was dumbfounded. She couldn't believe that hazel, and Ann would just let her insult them openly. "And I'm faith," Clare began mimicking again. "I ask question after question with no consideration for anyone else's sanity! I could ask one question at a time, but why? When I can ask six in a row and drive Clare insane!"
"Enough!" Faith yelled as she stood up from her chair. She looked Clare dead in the eye "They can listen to you insult them all day if you like but I'm not.. what kind of stupid power is that anyway?" She asked in annoyance. Ann and Hazel looked at Faith in a cunfused manner. Now it was clare who looked dumbfounded. "You can see me?" She asked? "She can see me! She yelled to Hazel and Clare in realization before she remembered that both woman could still not see her. She closed her eyes and willed herself to be seen.
"She saw me!" She said once again to the two woman who just now saw Clare appear beside Faith.
"What are you talking about? I don't understand any of this!" Faith said as she backed away from the table. "If I have to become crazy like her," faith said pointing at Clare. "Then I want No Part in this coven." She said fermly.
Ann, and hazel looked at one another in shock, and realization. "How?" Ann asked her coven leader who simply shook her head. "What am I missing?" Faith asked. This was starting to look like a regular circus in her mind. "My power is invisibility." Clare said walking closer to Faith, examining her up and down as if she she were a alien in a science lab. "You were not supposed to see any of that." She said, this time embarrassed.
Faith shook her head. "I don't understand... you couldn't see her?" She asked hazel and Ann in disbelief. Both woman immediately shook their heads in a "no".
"Then how can i?" Faith asked as the women in front of her were lost for words.
