Ana: Part ten

                                                              Ana

Becoming a snow cone was not part of the plan. The plan was just to march in and say “Hand over Leo’s beloved Calypso, so that we may leave in peace.” Then there would be some fighting and finally, Calypso would be back in Leo’s arms and then they would depart back to New York, happy. However, the fact that Calypso didn’t even want to be handed over in the first place, was a little unnerving. Maybe really unnerving, Ana admitted. Not to mention this was a lot like her nightmare, but she hadn’t run at the two girls like she did in her dream. She hadn’t told anyone about it, especially not Gabby, because she thought they would protest and not let her run to her death. As fun as that sounded, she knew she would have to, sooner or later.

“I come back from the dead while saving the world, rescue my girlfriend from an eternal prison, and find out she’s an accomplice with my worst enemy. I guess you could say I’ve had a pretty eventful year,” Leo said, gritting between his teeth.

“Try melting the walls of the dome again,” Ana suggested once more.

“I did. Not even a drop comes off,” Leo replied shivering. “Gods, I wish I was more like Elsa from that mortal movie, Frozen saying ‘the cold never bothered me anyway.’ But the cold kinda does bother me. A lot,” Leo admitted.

“How do you even know about the movies the mortals even make these days?” Ana asked, suddenly intrigued.

        “The Stolls.”

“Ah,” Ana said, as she watched her breath waft through the air, until disappearing into nothing. Ana breathed in and out, watching the same process occur once more. Ana tried to peer out the somewhat transparent dome, attempting to get a glimpse of Gabby. So far, all she managed to see was Khione and Calypso exposing themselves.

Suddenly, Ana had an idea. Her heavy breathing caused water vapor, and she realized this it is water after all, and she can control water. She took a deep breath and concentrated on the vapor coming out. Luckily, it obeyed and became liquid water.

“LEO! Heat this up, hurry!” yelled Ana, holding the water to Leo.

“Woah, ok,” he replied. He lit his hand on fire and heated up Ana’s water up to boiling. She made the water spread across the dome, slowly melting the ice that Khione had made.

“Leo, while I melt this, it will create cracks in the ice. I want you to take my sword and hit the cracks as hard as you can, okay?” she asked, staring at him fiercely. He understood and unsheathed her sword. He hit at the ice without cracks and didn’t make a dent. He jumped back from the bounce of power and agreed to hit the cracks. Ana looked out of the dome again, hoping Gabby was having some progress. She gasped when she saw people behind Gabby. People they knew.

“What is the meaning of this!?” said the snow goddess.

“Who are you?” asked Calypso. Leo and Ana gaped at their friends backing Gabby and she looked so confused as to what was going on as Ana laughed in happiness. Piper, Jason, Hazel, Frank, and even Nico were standing right behind her best friend. That wasn’t all, Ana realized. They were shielding a surprise, she could tell.

“Hey ice heart,” said Piper, sneering at the goddess.

“Piper, we meet again, my fool of a brother isn’t here to save you anymore. Jason, you’ve changed. Still handsome, though,” she replied. Her friends moved out of the way to reveal what was behind them.

“Calypso. I never thought...” said a voice that she didn’t recognize. She saw her brother, standing there, and a girl with blonde hair from her nightmare about the black pit. This must be Percy and Annabeth, Ana realized. Percy had dark hair and sea green eyes, just like Ana. Gods, they looked so alike.

“How could you possibly do this?” came through Percy’s voice.

“Revenge,” Annabeth whispered so lightly that it was so hard to hear anything through the gigantic snow globe. “She was never with us from the beginning, she wasn’t only on her father’s side because it was the right thing to do. She did it because she wanted to.” Percy gave a cold glare towards the goddess. Well, it could’ve just been that everything seemed cold right now, Ana thought.

“Well, revenge this!” Percy shouted. Suddenly, Percy yanked out a water bottle that happened to be in his backpack. The cap unscrewed itself and the water spewed into Calypso’s face. Fury exploded her face.

“Uh, that was supposed to be cooler...” Percy admitted. Ana gaped at Percy. He seemed to have perfect control over it. Compared to him, she felt like a complete klutz. Then again, he’s been doing this for five years. He caught her glare and beamed at his family member. Annabeth lunged at Calypso, a Celestial Bronze knife in hand with anger and frustration. The knife sank into Calypso’s shoulder with some gold ichor flowing out.

“Gods, I would give anything to have my old knife back,” Annabeth said as Calypso pushed Annabeth off of her.  She was red with rage, and put one hand on her bleeding shoulder. CRACK! Ana flinched at the huge crack she had created and Leo successfully made it even larger from her sword. The dome collapsed overhead and Ana would have been crushed if Leo didn’t melt the ice above her as soon as he did. She looked at him, soaked in frigid water, and he looked back in his sad determined eyes. He pulled a fake smile and she hugged him, happy that he was with her. He hugged tightly back and when she let go, his smile had become real.

The liquid on her skin had given her energy, and she made her way slowly towards the partners in crime.

“Hey ice queen!” yelled Leo, coming into Khione’s view. He gave Ana a quick reassuring glance and turned his attention to her again. “Remember what I said to you before I kicked your butt last time we met?” he asked, his eyes sparkling. “I said snow-freaking-melts.” He sent a burst of fire towards her and she came out of it unharmed. Leo’s face paled, but he stood his ground.

“Ah Leo,” she said. “I do recall. However, my accomplice, the lovely Calypso had made me fire-proof clothing and a little field around my face and hands of the same material, however it is transparent.” Leo’s face looked even more hurt. “Fire can be extinguished as well,” she said quietly that only Ana heard. She lunged an enormous amount of ice and cold airs at Leo, attempting to freeze him to death. Ana forgot her sneak attack and pushed Khione aside, jumping in Leo’s path. He noticed what she was doing at the last moment and she heard him scream her name; just like from her dream.

                                                                        ...

The only thing she could think of was the frigid ice. She couldn’t speak, she couldn’t move, her eyes stung, and she could barely feel her hands and feet. She heard Leo screaming her name repeatedly, and Gabby joined in desperately. She heard Gabby crying, and heard the fighting in the distance.

“Gabby go, help the others, I’ll try to defrost Ana as best as I can,” she heard Leo say in a muffled voice. Ana assumed she walked away hesitantly because Leo spoke to her softly with a shaky voice.

“Ana, please wake up, please be ok,” he said. “you can’t be gone. You just can’t,” he continued. “I love you,” Leo whispered ever so lightly that for a moment, Ana thought it was simply her imagination, but she knew in her heart that it was true. His fists must have gotten white hot because the thick ice started to feel thinner. She heard him start to cry and the ice fell apart and covered her in liquid water. He stopped crying and held his breath as he watched her. “Ana, please. I lost Calypso already, I can’t lose you too,” he said desperately. She was confused about how he chose his words, but tried her hardest to move. She gasped for air, the water around her giving her strength. She sat up weakly and started to shiver. Leo let out his breath and hugged her tightly, she heard him crying and she hugged him back in relief. She was so cold now that she had no feeling in her body.

“L-Leo, I-I’m c-cold.” Ana stuttered, trying not to think about what Leo had just said a moment ago. Leo looked at her with a small smile and lit a fire on his hands and she crumpled into his arms from the warmth. She felt almost embarrassed by her weakness, but she also felt comfortable and safe that he was taking care of her, he then took off his sweater and slipped it over her. He started to help her on her feet, catching her when she stumbled. He held her as they walked towards the crew, Gabby’s face wet with tears and focused on the ice witch.

“Leo, my sword,” Ana said. Without hesitation, Leo passed Ana her sword. It was kind of odd, being a Hunter and yet, using a sword instead of a bow and arrow. In truth, Ana hated archery, swordplay was much more exhilarating. She caught a glance from Percy once again, smiling and then joining the fight.
