A New Day

The sun lit the tall grass of the Serengeti. Elephants opened their eyes as the sun's light rested on their wrinkled gray heads. A zebra herd stirred, not too far from the elephants. A vulture perched in a tree, its talons hooked around a branch. All was peaceful; not a sound was heard. That would be the case for every group of animals except for the local pride of lions.

Kidogo, a little and light golden cub, opened his tiny jaws wide in a yawn. He stood up on his paws and took a glimpse of his surroundings. The rest of the pride was still asleep, lying together on the grass of the savanna. Kubwa, the large and fearless leader of the pride, lay on a flat, slanted stone, where he could overlook the pride when he rested. Tamu, Kidogo's sweet and loving mother, dozed next to Kidogo. Butu, the blunt lioness cub, slept next to her mother.

The day had just begun, but Kidogo wanted to explore the land for himself. He took off with a bound, and padded quickly to the watering hole.

A/N: I decided to start writing this book because I had created an amazing cover for it on the Cover Creator on my phone, and wanted to make it an actual book. So I based it off of real lions in the wild living in a pride, having the lionesses hunt for the pride, but also the fact that the dominant male lion in the pride chases out the younger lion cubs so the cubs don't take over the pride as leader. It's a realistic fiction/animal adventure story, I guess.

If you do have some feedback on this first chapter, please message me or put it in the comments. It really does help me continue this story, as some of my other stories that I had a good run on went off the tracks of my thought train because I haven't worked on them and don't know how to continue them. So suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Leopardclaw
