Chapter Five

Some time after Guiltia and Angelique started looking around Harajuku for the two boys, a song rang inside their heads. It was thanks to the power of Visual Prison and the Scarlet Moon.

This voice....  The pair stopped in their tracks. Angelique looked at the man in front of her questioningly. "It's Eve-san's voice, isn't it?"

"...Yes." Guiltia didn't turn around and relaxed. If they could hear Eve's song then that would mean he's taking care of everything.

"....It's beautiful but. . it sounds really sad," Angelique quietly mumbled. It had reached Guiltia's ears, which caused him to look at her.

"You find this song beautiful?" He asked, the surprise in his features hidden.

"Isn't it?" She asked back, as if it was the most obvious answer. He couldn't help but smile then.

"It is."

As the final verse rang out, Angelique felt a pang in her chest. I was right. It sounds so sad. . . . almost as if Eve-san is asking for salvation. Vampires cannot lie in their songs- Eve-san, what's in your heart that makes your song sounds so beautiful yet sad?

"It's gone." Guiltia let go of Angelique's wrist that he had been holding all this time. "The beast is gone."

??? "How do you know that?"

"Vampires have a keen sense."

"Oh. . ."

"Do you still want to look for Ange and Robin?"

She nodded. "I want to." It didn't take them too long to find those two, as they were on their way home in a hurry. Angelique let out a relieved sigh.

"Angelique? Guil?" Ange was puzzled when he spotted them outside.

"Why are you two out together?" Robin asked, equally confused.

"We've been looking for you two," Guiltia answered. "Are you two fine?"

"We are, thanks to Eve," Ange replied. Robin nodded at that and added, "We were suddenly attacked by an evil vampire but then Eve-san came and saved us by killing the beast."

"Eve's song....did you hear it too, Angelique?" Ange asked.

"Mm."

"I.." The brunette looked down at his hand where the mark of Oz glowed. "I need to talk to him."

"But where's Eve-san?" She questioned when she couldn't find the older man with them.

"You see, right after he helped us, Eve-san disappeared. Maybe he went home. I wonder if he's fine after fighting that beast."

"No." Guiltia interrupted. "He's most likely in the place which offers him peace of mind. . . I know where he is."

As Guiltia started walking ahead, he turned slightly to look at the three standing still. "Follow me."

While they were following after Guiltia, Robin and Ange filled Angelique with all the details that happened earlier.

"Don't try to do anything that can put you in danger, you two," the raven scolded. "And Robin, Guil-san had already prohibited us from going outside so why did you go?"

"Well...."the eighteen year old scratched his cheek sheepishly. "You wanted to know what happened too, right?" She shook her head sideways with a sigh.

"Sorry, Angelique, Guil." Being the good kid, Ange apologised. Robin followed his suit, "I'm sorry too."

"....I'm glad nothing serious happened to both of you," she muttered quietly.

It didn't take long for Guiltia to reach the church Eve frequently visited. The church was quite a distance away from their home. Telling the kids to wait outside, he went inside the building. He was right. Eve was sitting there, all alone.

!!! Disappear...?  While the three younger ones waited, they could hear Guiltia and Eve's voices coming from the inside. And they heard something unexpected. What does he mean by disappearing...!? Suddenly, the door opened and Eve came out.

Surprised at seeing them there, Eve wordlessly tried to leave the place. Robin stepped and took hold of his hand before he could leave. "Disappear? What's that supposed to mean?"

"Eve, is this our fault?" Ange asked painfully. "Because we didn't listen to Guil and ended up seeing..."

"No." He faced away from them. "No. You didn't do anything wrong."

"Then why are you leaving all of a sudden?" Angelique questioned sadly. She didn't get an answer from the man. "It's not fair.....leaving us like this..."

At that moment, Guiltia walked out of the church. "Why don't you tell them?"

"Guil...."

"They're not just going to accept this without knowing what's going on."

Eve couldn't ignore Guiltia's words and ended up taking the three to his secret place, the top of the church. Throughout their walk, Robin hadn't let go of his arm.

"I always come here after I finish a job," Eve started. "I've told you before that humans can't find out about vampires, right?" Ange nodded with an affirmative hum.

"But the Scarlet Moon does nothing to humans who find out about vampires. Perhaps there's nothing it can do."

"Mm..." Angelique acknowledged. It was the same scenario as her. The next thing that Eve said caught her off guard.

"Some of them came to hate the darkness and became hunters." She frowned. Why would they hate vampires?

"When I was still a human, I did nothing but hunt down and kill every vampire I could find."

"Why?" Robin questioned.

"A long time ago, feeding in humans wasn't prohibited and there were plenty of vampires that would harm humans just for fun." That's cruel....

"But then, I found out...that most vampires wanted to live among humans. And that they did nothing wrong." Eve took a deep breath to steady himself. "When I became a vampire, I finally found out...that I was the real monster."

That's not true!!

"My strength...My soul..." He took a look at his hands. "These hands had no problem cutting through you."

"So what?" Robin interrupted.

"You heard it, didn't you?" Eve desperately tried to make him understand, "no matter how much I try to contain it, it flows from me... that loathsome song."

No..! It's not a loathsome song!

"That's who I really am. I can't stay with you."

Robin cut off in a determined and honest tone. "I love you, Eve-san."

"Me too." Angelique grabbed Eve's hand in both of hers. "I really really love you too!"

"Angelique? Robin?" The purple head was confused.

Angelique blurted out everything in all her honesty. "You've been nothing but kind to us since day one. You've been taking such good care of us even though you don't have a reason to. The food you make is really delicious too. And you take good care of Pannya and the flowers as well. You're really patient and understanding."

Having said all of that in a single breath, she paused to catch her breath. "And I really love you for that! I'm so glad I got to meet you, Eve-san." She smiled softly. "Besides, you were trying to save humans from evil vampires, weren't you?"

Robin relaxed and started speaking. "I mean, I was shocked. If I didn't know you, I would've run away screaming. But I do know you." He beamed, "And I know that you're a really good person, Eve-san."

"I agree." Ange finally stepped forward. "Your song back there...It almost sounded like you were crying."

Eve looked away. "It was a beast...a monster's scream."

"Eve-san, you're not a monster!" Angelique firmly declared.

"A monster wouldn't sing a song of prayer," Ange claimed. A song of prayer- yes, that's the right term.

"You call that a prayer?"

"Yeah."

"Are you sure you're not scared?"

"Yeah. It resonated with me. I could tell that you wanted to sing with us." Eve stared at the brown haired boy.

"Ange is so obsessed with music," Robin commented.

"Wha-"

"Welp, you're not getting away now. OZ needs you, Eve-san." Saying that, he gently pushed Eve towards Ange.

"You need me?"

"Yeah," Ange's features softened, "Robin, Eve...This precious sound..." The thought of music gave Ange newfound strength and resolve. "I want to be with you. I want to sing with you."

Taken aback, Eve stared at the boy before him. He quickly wiped the single tear that had rolled down his cheeks and removed his hood. "No one's ever said that to me before. But no. Eventually, I'm going to turn into a beast and make a terrible mistake again. I'm scared of myself."

"You won't turn into a beast."

"Ange..."

"I believe in you." There was that precious angelic smile of Ange. That smile alone conveyed his sincerity, honesty and trust.

It took Eve a moment to come to his decision. With a smile on his face, he walked closer and kneeled down in front of him. Robin and Angelique witnessed the sacred ritual of the vampires as Eve bit the back of Ange's hand. The mark of Oz appeared in his hands as well and it glowed significantly under the moonlight.

"Welcome to OZ, Eve-san!" Robin cheered.

"Congratulations!" Angelique clapped, a bright smile on her face.

"Thank you, Robin, Angelique." Eve got up on his feet. "It's late. Shall we go home now?"

"Yeah!"

Both Robin and Eve-san joined OZ today. Now Ange can sing with both of them. It has been a really nice day except the constant worries though.

When they arrived at the bottom of the church, Angelique stopped in her tracks and muttered, "Ah, what about Guil-san?"

"What about me?"

"Whoa!" The raven jumped when Guiltia suddenly appeared behind her. "Guil-san!"

"Why are you so surprised?"

She shook her head. "I was just wondering if you already went home."

As the two walked right behind Robin, Ange and Eve, he looked at her as this was the most simplest question. "I can't leave you kids here in the middle of night. Besides, I was worried about Eve as well."

"Guil-san, you..." her eyes closed into a cheerful smile. "You really care about Eve-san, don't you?"

Guiltia almost got a flashback of a raven haired woman smiling at him in a similar way. Memories with them surfaced in his mind. Angelique called out to him when he looked so spaced out all of a sudden.

"I apologise. What were you saying?" He turned to look at the girl beside him.

"Umm...." She looked down at her feet. "I wanted to thank you and also apologise for today. I was being stubborn earlier and caused you trouble."

"That's because Ange was involved, wasn't it? You're not afraid of jumping into danger for Ange."

"Well. . .he's the only family I have. As the older sibling, I have to protect him."

The blonde gazed forward. "I won't debate about your resolutions. However, try to think of yourself at times too. Ange isn't as fragile as you consider him. You're being overprotective."

"...mm." Am I really being overprotective?  She didn't know what to say so she chose to stay silent.

"Angelique, Guil-san? Why are you two so behind? Hurry up!" Robin called out to them.

.  . .  . . .  .

"Robin?" The raven haired girl opened the door of her and Ange's room to find the elder boy outside. His pink hair was down, different from his usual style. Hers was different as well. She just tied her black hair into two braids for bed.

"Hey hey, let's have a sleepover." The sun wouldn't take long to rise by the time the five reached home. Still, they decided to get as much sleep as they could.

"Okay," Ange replied, hearing their conversation. He made space for their friend to lie in the futon.

"Not just us. Let's sleep in Eve-san's room." Robin suggested. "Come on, grab your pillows."

".....okay?" And so, the tired and sleepy siblings each held their own pillow and followed after Robin into Eve's room only to find....

"What is this?!" Robin's shriek pierced throughout the house.

My ears.... She winced slightly before staring at the blank and empty room. There wasn't a bed or closet or anything. Just empty. The three youngsters gaped at the room when Eve came running up, having heard Robin's scream. "Is there something wrong with my room?"

Ange got straight to the point. "Where do you sleep?"

"The floor is just fine."

"Nope, nope, no way!" Robin glanced at the twins on each side of him. "Oh no. Eve-san is actually scaring me." Poor Eve couldn't understand what was so wrong about his room.

"To be perfectly honest, I agree." Guiltia appeared out of nowhere, Pannya in his hands. The cat also cried out in agreement.

"Eh?" He stood dumbfounded. "What's so strange about sleeping on the floor?"

"Eve-san, seriously...?" Robin couldn't believe the elder.

"What're you three doing in Eve's room?" The head of the house interrogated, having noticed their pillows.

"A sleepover," Angelique answered. "Would you like to join us too, Guil-san?"

"No, I refuse." Guiltia stared at Angelique for a second. She resembled too much of his female friend.

"Guys, let's bring our futons and let Eve-san experience what sleeping in comfort is!" Robin was pumped up.

"Okay!"

In the end, Robin, Eve, Ange and Angelique had a sleepover where the twins fell asleep almost instantly.

To be continued...
