Chapter 5: Daughter of a Dragon
Melandrach glanced at Pyria who stared at Hamon with wide eyes.
"Wh-what...?" She whispered, "y-you're lying."
"I'm not," Hamon replied callously as he stood up, "you're the daughter of the great Dragon King, Elion Fengwyn. Your mother was a Sorceress- a human who controlled magic. Her name was Merlara Saphira."
Pyria took a step back, her shoulders trembling.
"Elves call Sorcerers and Sorceresses 'humans' because of the wars that have occurred between them. And then Dragons came into the mix," Hamon said as he walked up to the bars. Pyria stared at him.
"So tell me... princess," he said coolly, a purr in his voice, "what will you do with the information that I gave you?"
Pyria stood up, her legs shaking a little. She stumbled slightly but Melandrach caught her before she could fall and she exhaled shakily.
She walked out of the dungeons with Melandrach following. She walked down the hallway before she found herself outside of the throne room. She could hear Drannor, Rosanhi, Othorion and Elisen talking. She fidgeted nervously before she knocked on the door.
A guard opened the door and Elisen looked at her. "Pyria? Is everything alright?" She asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
Pyria gripped her dress tightly. "Wh-... when were you going to tell me that my father was a dragon?" She asked.
Othorion tensed up. Rosanhi and Drannor looked at Elisen who stared at the floor, her bangs covering most of her face.
"I couldn't let you find out," she said quietly, "not when the war was continuing."
"What war?!" Pyria exclaimed bitterly, "I... I had to deal with the fearful and the hateful looks Elves gave me! I never did anything!"
Elisen walked to her. "I know," she said, "and I'm so sorry, Pyria. But I wanted to protect you. From other Elves and from the Dragons."
She reached out to her but Pyria stepped back, shaking her head. The young girl whimpered before she turned and ran out of the room.
"Pyria!" Rosanhi exclaimed worriedly but Drannor placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Let her go," he sighed and he looked at Elisen who stared at the floor with a saddened look. Othorion looked down at his feet in guilt.
Pyria ran down the hallway before she ran out of the castle. She felt tears stream down her face as she breathed heavily. She felt her heart pounding and she could feel the world becoming a blur all around her.
She stumbled into the gardens before she fell to her knees, leaning against the fountain and she sobbed into her arms.
Her body wracked with sobs and she shook hard. She sniffled and whimpered as she wiped her eyes.
She felt overwhelmed by everything. By what Hamon had told her, by what Elisen had said.
She clutched at her chest, whimpering softly. She panted softly before she let out a cry of pain as she slowly transformed into her dragon form.
She whimpered as she looked herself over for a moment. She didn't know why but she had these... feelings.
She flapped her wings before she flew up into the air and took to the skies. She flew through the air.
For once in her life, she felt free.
She smiled in relief as her muscles finally relaxed and she flew through the clouds. She flew higher and higher before she found herself above the clouds and the moon was shining alongside the stars.
She closed her eyes before she landed in a large clearing. She looked around before she saw a cherry blossom tree. She transformed back and slowly walked over to it.
She exhaled softly before she placed her hand on it and closed her eyes for a moment.
'What was my mother like?' She thought. She pressed her forehead against the bark of the tree. She exhaled softly.
She opened her eyes and looked at the petals. She wiped her eyes and looked around. She exhaled before she held her hand out.
The wind blew a little but a spark of fire appeared in her palm. She looked at it and frowned. She exhaled before she waved her hand around and water surrounded her arm.
She took the bracelet from her wrist and put it on the ground. She sighed deeply and rubbed her head.
"I should... go back," she said softly. But deep down, something was stopping her from going back. Not that she didn't want to, but she longed to find her father. She wanted answers about everything.
She wiped her face and sighed deeply before she looked at her hands.
She could control water and fire.
She was a dragon.
She sighed softly and closed her hands. Suddenly an arrow zipped past her and she froze in surprise before she spun around to see Voron and a few guards. She widened her eyes.
Voron smirked, "I have waited so long for you to slip up. Grab her!"
She quickly transformed and flew up into the air only to scream when arrows flew into her shoulder, leg and wings.
She fell to the ground and whimpered. She pushed herself to her feet and hissed as the guards closed in on her. She stumbled backwards, trembling in pain and fear.
She bared her teeth and growled. Voron took out a sword and she widened her eyes in fear.
She stumbled backwards and whimpered loudly, shaking hard. She closed her eyes tightly. There was a low but loud growl and her eyelids flew open.
Voron and the guards looked around before a shadow suddenly fell over everyone and they looked up to see a red and blue dragon rising over the trees. He had black wings traced with gray and his eyes were blue.
Pyria widened her eyes. The dragon roared as he reared forward and chomped down on the first three guards.
Pyria watched with wide eyes as the dragon whacked Voron away with his tail. The Elf flew into another tree and fell to the ground limp.
Pyria felt her heart thud against her ribcage.
The dragon roared and fired at the remaining guards before he looked down at Pyria who stared at him with wide, fearful eyes.
He frowned before he carefully scooped her up into his claws. She let out a nervous squeak and held onto his talon and she shut her eyes tightly. The dragon didn't say anything as he spread his wings and took to the skies.
