Chapter 4
(The old man ghost)
"Keira, wake up...wake up!" Jennie shook me "its 2:30 am"
I tried to shove her away but she slapped me hard on my back.
"Ahhh!" I cried "quit hitting me everytime!"
"We should go down now" she demanded "do you here the howls?"
"Yes I do" I stretched and got off my bed "let's go bust those babies!"
We packed our bags with stuff like water bottles, flashlights, a high-definition camera, don't know why but some snacks and our cell phones on silent mode in case.
"C'mon, these howls are making me more and more curious" and she was already up to the main door "you've packed every important thing, haven't you?"
"Yeah, kinda" as I pulled an awfully heavy bag across the floor "it's even heavier than our school bags, maybe if we reduce a little..."
"Alright, let's just take the flashlights" she said rolling her eyes. Then we got out of the house and I locked the door. We stood in the dim corridor which looked really very creepy.
Clicking our flashlights on, we made our way out of the building, I noticed the new security guard wasn't there. He's probably wondering out somewhere, guards these days.
As we stepped out, a cold blast of air swept past our face causing us to shiver. The howls were even more spine-chilling out here. I wondered if other people do freak out by these howls, didn't look like. Everyone including my mom never minded them. I could see Jennie was trembling, and so was I. It was so awfully cold, I wished I had pulled a sweater on.
And we were taking such a big step towards dangers. Fear was our companion now. Anything, absolutely anything could happen to us tonight. What if things do not go the way we had planned? Will we be able to see daylight ever again?
We silently tracked the howls which lead us towards the swimming pool. We both stood still, listening to the howls that erupted from the swimming area and then Jennie started to walk in. Instantaneously, I clutched her hand before she could enter the swimming area.
"I...I don't think we should do this" I whispered.
"We'll do it, and now!" saying that she broke free of my grip and trotted into the swimming area. Suddenly, I felt as if someone or something was following us. I looked left, then right and again to the left. No one.
"Hey Jennie, wait up!" I called out to her as I realized I had to be with someone who had the guts to face anything, and at that time I had only Jennie to rely on.
As soon as I entered the swimming area the howling stopped. Nothing made sound except the wind and our footsteps. I didn't know why but I had this weird feeling...that feeling you get when you find yourself on a bridge which is broken from both sides and you have no option but to jump into the water with just a hint of hope that you'll survive.
Jennie was jogging all around the swimming pool looking under, lounge chair, benches and tables. "Hey, puppies, come on out wherever you are" she sang "you're not getting away from this one!" I couldn't believe she was taking this so nonchalantly. I on the other hand could barely move, I was really freaked out. I wanted her to stop this nonsense and get back home safe under our blankets.
To show that even I was contributing her in this operation, I started looking here and there. Then I saw something in the swimming pool, no not the dead Labradors, but something else. The water in the swimming pool made strange patterns, as if someone was swimming in it but no one really was. I knelt down and peeked in the swimming pool. The patterns stopped appearing dead in their tracks as if someone had dived in!
I bent forward and felt the cold water with my fingers. It felt so good that I bent a little more causing my entire palm to be inside the water. Then someone caught my hand and dragged me into water! Whatever had caught me was now dragging me deeper and deeper into the water...
