New York, 2017

Everybody is running, hastening, rushing through the old-fashioned office mostly made of glass built in the center of New York a few years ago. Here, the people in the room all look they come from a fashion show. Cassidy likes it. She likes the way her employees dress, would be ready to give up a Friday night just to help her finalizing a few things. Cassidy likes her new life. Her new life that has been her life for a couple of years now. She likes how everyone would fear her; admire her; envy her. She likes being that icon to other people.
She never thought, even in her wildest dreams, that she would become that successful. Her hard-work had payed off now. She is now a grown woman, mature, and fully respected. She has earned a name in the industry and the only person that she can thank is herself. She has been working her ass off for years to get the job she has now. She has built her own huge and famous empire, and she will not let anyone break it. Not the press, not some rivalry, and not a heart-break.  Never.

The editor, now Editor-in-chief of Wardrobe Magazine inhales deeply before going out of the black Range Rover of hers.
Now Cassidy walks through the press in black Louboutin that match with her black skirt and her dark purple coat.
« Mrs. Vaughan, how do you balance your career with your latest divorce? » She can hear the medias ask through the flashes and the recording cameras.
Her bodyguard makes his way through the crowd full of paparazzis, forming a way for Cassidy to walk through. She hates the press and the paparazzis, she finds them uncivilised, crazy and stupid. They always get excited for nothing and it is never sincere. Plus they are terribly bad-dressed. She never pays attention to their stupid questions, and she never answers them either; she hates sharing her personal life with people that she gives no importance to. The medias are a snake, they're watching you and spying on you no matter where you go. Cassidy hates the feeling of being watched wherever she is. And she hates seeing fake news about her on the cover of Page six. Page Six, the gossip column in the New York Post, is an institution built on tipsters, anonymous sources, and old-fashioned reporting. Appearing in it means you are not just a success in your line of business; you are a true boldfaced name. You matter. Items about movie stars appear alongside stories about socialites and power players—as long as you make a good copy, the playing field is level. The fear Page Six strikes in its subjects has made it an indispensable tool for Manhattan's rich and powerful. Sometimes Page six tells the truth, but most of the time stories and rumors are brought up on the table randomly. It is all about making money; the more scandals happen, the more people buy it; it is strategic. Cassidy's been through plenty unbelievable rumors through the years, just like million other celebrities.
If Cassidy Vaughan's life is really what the press says about her, then she would have got a couple of boyfriends all at once, married around twenty of them, then divorced them all, then she'd got pregnant a hundred times, would be a job-stealer and even more. Once they actually started a rumor that she was actually deaf and that was the reason she gave no time to people, she could not hear them.
What she likes about all that though, is the fact that she knows people would read about her on Page Six. She knows she matters. She knows people would look up to her in their life, and that's what makes her smile. She loves being a leader.
« Mrs. Cassidy Vaughan could you tell us what you think about the new Chanel collection? »
She hears a few other silly questions before she can make it to the elevator of her office.
Then she gets in, come into the office. She can see a few stylists working in the room on the right with some old piece of Balmain skirts. Then, on her left, some people are working on the edition of Wardrobe magazine, created by the one and only Cassidy Vaughan.
She got the idea of this magazine a little while after Paris, in 1994. She thought about it and told some of her colleagues about it. She spent five years imagining it, how it would work, what she would talk about, while she was still working at Glamour. Then, when she finally had enough money to make her own way, she flew out of her little office from Glamour and settled down here. Within the first weeks of its release, Wardrobe counted already plenty thousands of readers. Now Wardrobe is a must-read for everyone, everyone knows what it is and you will always be seen as sophisticated if you say you read Wardrobe. The cover of the magazine is pretty simple, it's always a picture of a model or a celebrity with written Wardrobe on it, and there's a little drawing of a bag in the O. It's simple but it is what catches the eye of the public, simplicity. Inside, you will mostly find pictures of models, celebrity, perfume and clothes. You will find exclusive interviews about fashion and the latest news in the industry. There's also pictures of famous brands and latest releases along with some outfit ideas and fashion advices. Basically, if you want to become the best version of your outside self, just buy Wardrobe.
The editor has been running the company for more than 20 years now, and she is the most known Editor of the country. And the richest, as well.
« Good morning Cassidy. I've checked all your flights for the next months and it seems like the one going to Tokyo has been cancelled. » Lucy says, one of her secretaries, while following Cassidy through the corridor. Cassidy takes her Vera Wang coat off, looking at her watch. She doesn't have time to talk about her plane to Tokyo, she has a meeting in a few minutes.
« Then do something about it. I'm sure many many planes are heading to Tokyo right? » Cassidy replies, barely looking at Lucy.
She knows she is not always the nicest to her employees, or to people in general, but she doesn't really mind. She doesn't have time for jokes and laughs, she is busy. Not busy like having a few assignments to finish, but busy like having a whole company to run all by herself and money to earn. She likes seeing money coming in her many bank accounts because she knows she puts work and effort into that money and she deserves it. On the other hand, if she was doing and learned that much money, she would somehow feel bad and guilty. So that's what she does, she does her best not to feel guilty and work all the time. She is now a strong lady, and she can't accept losing all the respect she has earned just because she had lunch over a pizza with her secretary.
In fact, after Paris, she is not the Cassidy she used to be, she's different. Paris had totally changed her. It made her realize how difficult life choices are, but are definitely worth it in the end. She knows that all her fame and success, she owes it to Paris. She has built herself an armor now, that she swore herself no one could ever break. That's why she has no friends, or only a few that she can probably count on her hand. She won't let anyone in, fearing to see all her success drowning. She'd rather being feared by everyone in the country than being called cute and needy by the press. And that's not the only thing that has changed.
She has changed a lot in apparence too. Probably because when she looked at herself in the mirror, she remembered Sierra, she remembered being a needy young girl that simply fell in love too quickly with an older woman. So now her hair are shorter, the color is darker. Her skin is tanner, her body in better health.
« No problem, I will look for another plane. Do you need something else?» The secretary asks.
« I have a meeting in my office in a few minutes, I do not want to be disturbed. » She says.
Cassidy finally reaches her own office and opens the door made of glass.
« Wait, Cassidy. There's a girl waiting for you in there- »
Lucy can't finish her sentence that Cassidy has already closed the door behind her. She sighs, annoyed by Lucy. She sometimes wonders if people actually use their poor brains sometimes. When people are not as efficient as her she often gets angry very quickly.
She puts her coat on the chair when she realizes that there is someone in her office.
« Who are you? » She asks, glancing at her.
The woman standing besides her is extremely tall and thin. She might be a model, Cassidy thinks. She has long blond hair, almost as light as her skin. She's smiling but Cassidy can see she's intimidated.
The editor takes time to analyze every single pieces of her outfit. She's wearing fancy black boots, which makes the girl look even taller. She is wearing a black short skirt, accorded to a white jumper with red lines. Her makeup is very colorful, but Cassidy can't deny the fact that it is good. She is wearing a red eyeshadow on her top eyelids to match with her jumper and her lower eyelids are lined in brown.
Her sense of fashion is not too bad, for a beginner probably. Very uncommon, but not too bad.
« Good morning, I'm Samantha Gates. » She introduces herself, smiling. She offers her hand to shake to Cassidy, but the editor simply glares.
« And what are you doing here in my office? » She questions the young woman.
« Well I think it was your secretary, who told me to wait for you here. I heard you were looking for an assistant, and I think I could be the one. »
« What makes you want to be my assistant, Mrs. Gates? » She asks as she sits on the chair of her office, never breaking contact with Samantha.
« I'm studying fashion and I hope to be a model, but right now I think working here could be a good start. I brought my CV, if you want to- »
« We'll call you back if we're interested. » Cassidy cuts her. She doesn't have time for that kind of stuff. Cassidy's got a meeting in a few minute.
Samantha's charming smile disappear to a confused expression, and then a sad one.
« F-fine. I just want to let you know that I'm sure I could do a perfect job as your assistant. » She insists one last time before turning around to leave.
Cassidy watches her leave, and her eyes slide to look at Lucy, working from her office. She's about to make a call.
« Do you know how to book a plane properly? » Cassidy asks, resting her elbow on her desk. Cassidy doesn't raise her voice. She never does. She is known for that. Everywhere she goes, she never feels the need to yell. She found out a few years ago that people always listened to her, even when she'd talk as quietly as possible. Powerful people never raise their voice, she read it a few years back.
The blond-haired woman turns around, trying to hide the smirk on her face.
« Yes, I can do that. »
« Fine, then you start today. » Cassidy says in a straight tone.
« Thank you, I won't disappoint y-» Samantha stops as she sees Cassidy glancing at her. She understands she better shut up, so she just smiles one last time to her before leaving her office. Cassidy immediately notices her elegant and straight walk, just as a real model would do.

The meeting goes well. Cassidy wishes to change the cover of Wardrobe as spring season is coming soon. A few of her Art-designers and Editors suggests some good ideas and are working on it from now on.
Cassidy sits on the chair next to her desk, sighing. The meeting has been exhausting. The only thing Cassidy needs right now is a coffee. She's been obsessed with it since... Paris. And without coffee, she wouldn't be where she is now. Coffee has helped giving her the energy she needs to work hard.
« You wished to see me? » Lucy asks her boss, entering in her office.
« I need you to call Mrs.Peterson and inform her of Wardrobe's new spring project. Then call Pamela Hanson to inform her that the photo shoot of tomorrow has been delayed to Thursday. » Cassidy tells as she reads her agenda.
« Fine. Is that all? »
« And bring me a coffee. »
