Chapter 5: There'll be no war, not a stone left standing
Central Intelligence Agency
Director Hamilton pov:
She had gone over the intel on Operation Thunderstorm a dozen times. She realized the op itself had been deactivated. Years ago, she had learned about the op when she was a case officer for the CIA; one of her assets that she herself had recruited had warned her about a dangerous secret program to create assassins.
Director Hamilton wondered if that program was still active? But what worried her more was the intelligence she was getting from Venezuela from her CIA Station chief there. That Russia private military Wagner men were guarding President Maduro. OfCourse, it made sense that Russia would help Venezuela out. After all they weren't allies of the US.
So what was really going on down there She thought
Still, she wondered what Nicky's parents were doing meeting an arms dealer of all things. And what were they upto? Something kept nagging at her like a loose end waiting to be pulled. Every little detail of the op was right at her fingertips. With everything getting dicey in Venezuela; maybe the answer she was looking for was staring right in the face?
But what was it that was the question?
All of a sudden something caught her eye in the file as she stared wide eyes at the screen, her eyes narrowed. No it couldn't ? Where had she seen( or maybe )notice that Hummer in the picture before? After staring into the picture she realize it was extact one that Lex and Nicky were in when he had flown down to Scottsdale Arizona to see what happened to his brother. Somehow she had a terrible feeling that the op was still active.
Scrolling down the file, she could make out the location of the op. Venezuela! She pondered what could be so important there for this op. One thing for sure she knew, it was a White Nights op.
There was no doubt in her mind who the arms dealer was, of course, it had to be Triple-A7 but how did they know how to contact him? There had to be more to this she knew about. This wasn't a coincidence that Vikor and Olga were meeting an arms dealer like him. The question was what he would gain from Venezuela ?
She was about to close out of the file when a woman with short blonde kind of curly hair steps into the room. Her hands were swiftly tucked in the pockets of her elegant suit and I coudn't help not ntoice her tight-lipped smile.
"Madame Director, we have a problem with one of our of agents assigned to the South America desk in the United States Embassy was killed by an assassin," Deputy Director Casandra Lei spoke.
Director Hamilton glanced up from the screen. Her eyes narrowed as she sighed. "Cassandra, may I remind you. You wanted to run this op yourself. I suggest that you handle this delicately."She pressed on," Right now we have a situation in Venezuela that we need to take care of. I just found from our Station chief there that President Maduro is now guarded by the Wagner men."
"Madame Director, I have a team in place, just give me the word and I activate them. President Maduro won't see it coming, trust me," Deputy Director Lei remarked.
"Understand if your team fails we will fully deny any knowledge of them and they disavowed," Director Hamilton said in an authoritative tone.
"Yes I understand that Madame Director, but we have to take extreme measures against Venezuela. They are not ally to the United States and with Russia and China helping them; I suggest that you we make our move now" Deputy Director Lei told her.
Director Hamilton rose from where she was sitting, sauntered over to the door and closed it behind them. Then she pivoted saying "Okay do it but if with anything goes wrong down there you're on your own."
"Madame Director, I assure nothing will go wrong down in Venezuela. My team is experienced and trained; they know the risk and what they will have to do," Deputy Director Lei spoke.
Director Hamilton sauntered over to the window that overlooked the Pontiac river. Somehow she knew Deputy Director Lei wasn't telling her the whole truth. Still, she had a strange feeling that whatever was going on in Venezuela was connected to the White Nights and to this program to create assassins that her asset had told her about years ago.
She paused before speaking again. Her eyes narrowed. " Yes, I know you're team is trained and knows the risk. But don't forget they are so expandable, whatever Russia and China are up to in Venezuela could affect the balance of power there and could be terrible for the United States understand,"
Deputy Director Cassandra Lei say nothing for a while, the look in her eyes said it all. She wondered if Director Hamilton knew about her involvement with Russtech Ammunition and Thunderstorm? If she did, she wasn't saying. So she would have assumed that she did.
Grabbing the door handle, she strides out of Director Hamilton office. Reaching into her pocket inside her suit, she pulls out her satellite phone and enters an encrypted digital number for The handler at the Russtech Ammunition safe house.
She held it up to her ear, while she saunters over to the elevator. Everything was going as planned as she expected. There was no chance of her team failing in Venezuela for sure. Plus, she had a contingency if that happened. Every operation needed one without one. something could go easily wrong.
The handler reached into his pocket grabbing his burner seeing that it was an encrypted secure number he knew that it had to Deputy Director Lie or one of the assassins he handled for Russtech Ammunition.
"We might have a problem. I think Director Hamilton knows about my involvement with Thunderstorm. Not sure how she could become a problem for us," Deputy Director Lei said in a harsh voice.
"We could have Director Hamilton killed by one of our assassins,"the handler replied.
"No, that's too risky. We need to worry about Nikita Storm. I think she will be a problem for us," Deputy Director Lei told the handler.
"I dispatched two of our assassins to eliminate her. But I haven't heard back from them yet," The handler remarked.
There was some silence before she spoke again.
"That isn't good, we may have underestimated her; that won't happen again. But right now we need to focus on Venezuela and on our program to create assassins," Deputy Director Lei answered in an authoritative tone.
"How should we handle Venezuela then ? I could dispatch Medusa to there for backup in case it goes awry on us," the handler inquired.
"No, I might need her in Berlin again. Dispatch Axella and Elketra to Venezuela," Deputy Director Lei spoke.
Deputy Director Lei ended the conversation on her satellite phone as the elevator doors opened. She sauntered in. Yes, she had known about the Wagner men guarding President Maduro her contact in the Wagner men had told her earlier when they met in Moscow that they were going to enter Venezuela to tighten up President Maduro security.
Back in the office, Director Hamilton strides over to her desk before she sits back down in her chair behind the desk. She needed to see her counterpart in the SVR to see what he knew about Operation ThunderStorm and the program to create assassins. What made it worst though; was the agent who had been who assigned to the South America desk had who had vital intel on Thunderstorm.
In the world of intelligence nothing was what really it seemed. One minute you were in a on secret and operation, the next you were a liability or expandable. She had dispatched the Alpha group to Berlin to see what they could find out from Nicky's asset that they had recruited.
She had been a field agent years ago; when she had almost been killed by an unknown assailant when she had gotten close to a money laundering operation by the KGB. Luckily, she had survived using her instincts and guts. After that, she climbed up the ladder in the CIA, becoming one of the best agents ever.
Of course, she had read Cassandra Lie's redacted file earlier. All that she could make out was that she had operated in Russia, China, Venezuela, Berlin, Beirut and Iran. Other than that everything was redacted.
But suddenly had got her eyes, it was a name of the Ammunition company in Russia.
Where had she heard that name before, She thought to herself.
It finally dawned on her, of course, when Lex and agent Charles from the Red cell who had been looking into Azalea Elizabeth Grey, who had been hired by the Resistance to kill his brother. She could start an inquiry into the Ammunition company to see what she could uncover, maybe it would even be who was really behind Operation Thunderstorm?
Director Hamilton opened the bottom drawer of her desk, removing her shoulder holster and slipped it on. After that, she closed it and opened the second drawer, taking out her burner.
She entered an encrypted secure number. Holding the burner up near her ear. If there was any truth about the program still active, her asset would know. Back when she was an agent for the CIA during The Cold War, she had heard rumors that the KGB were interested in Project MK Ultra. If that was true her worst fear was about to come true.
The man sitting in at his desk, in his office at the Russian Federation Russian embassy in Washington, DC wasn't just any agent or spy he was an SVR Resident spy. He swiftly grabbed his burner from the top drawer as he opened it.
"Russian Trade Delegation," The man answered in his Russian accent.
"Andrei, we need to meet I some intel on Project Mk Ultra and Operation Thunderstorm," Director Hamilton spoke.
"Meet me at Dupont Circle make sure that you're not followed," Andrei replied.
The doors opened on the underground parking garage, as Deputy Director Lei emerged and made over to the silver Volvo parking in the parking space. The driver stepped out to grab the back door for her where a pale young face woman was sitting. She seemed to look little taller than average with pitch-black hair and forest green eyes, wearing a black-t-shirt with dark jeans.
Sitting right next to her was a woman with sleek shoulder-length hair with a face of a cold brutal devilish agent wearing dark sunglasses. She wore an expensive Gucci suit.
Deputy Director Lei climbed into the back and sat across from them as the driver closed the door behind her. He sauntered over to the driver-side and climbed.
"We have a problem, the assassins you ordered to eliminate Viktor and Ogla Storm were killed. Also, we have a bigger problem Nitika Storm," Deputy Director Lei Spoke.
Rage pulsed through her veins as her expression darkened. Her eyes narrowed as Ruyan drew Suppressed Zev Tech Glock her finger rested on the trigger training it Deputy Director Lei.
"Shit that isn't good. As for Nitika Storm I know what she is capable of doing. I tried to recruit her when she was in university to come and work for the White Nights. But instead she went to work for the CIA/NSA classified department known as the TaskForce and now she supposedly works for this Alpha Group," Ruyan snarled.
The Silver Volvo sped out of the underground parking garage, as Deputy Director Lei motioned for Ruyan to lower her weapon. There was no need for that here. She couldn't take any chances or be caught off guard.
"I dispatched two of my assassins to Venezuela for backup, trust me Viktor and Olga won't get out of there alive I assure you," Deputy Director Lei answered.
"They better not or I will have you killed understand," Ruyan scowled in a demanding tone, slipping her Glock back into her shoulder holster.
"May I remind Madame Ruyan that your sister works for me as a weapons specialist for Russtech Ammunition. Everybody works for me including the arms dealer. I read your redacted file and know everything about you. How you climbed the ladder in the KGB and control over the White Nights after you killed Dmitri Petrov," Deputy Director snapped in a authoritative tone.
Director Hamilton strides out of her office, sauntering down the corridor over to the private elevator. She knew that she had to be very careful this time. The last time she had met asset it was in Tallinn where she almost been killed by the Wagner men trying to escape.
The doors slid open, and she strolled in, going over her options in her mind in case something went awry or a setup. In a couple minutes, she would know everything about the Program called MK Ultra and why the Russians were interested in it. One had to be careful meeting with asset; you just never who they were really working for.
Strolling out into the underground parking garage, she ventured over to her Ford Focus. Grabbing the door handle, she opened the door climbed in. Once in she closed the door behind her and started up the engine she speeding out of the underground parking garage.
Driving into Washington, DC Director Hamilton wondered what she was getting into trying to find out about Thunderstorm and MK Ultra. She had no idea what kind of shadowy forces were behind it, or how powerful they were.
Andrei Ivanovich Volkov rose from where he was sitting as he strides out of his office and took the staircase down as he exited out the front doors of the embassy. Making his way over to his vehicle, he glanced sideways to see if he was being tailed. So far so good he proceeded over to his car ,grabbing the door, climbed in and closed it behind him.
A few minutes later, Director Hamilton arrived at DuPont Circle and parked alongside the sidewalk. Noticing that there were Several vehicles parked and some people sauntered along enjoying themselves. She stepped out, grabbing the door handle and closed it behind her.
He drove a couple blocks before he parked his Audi down the street climbing out; he surveyed the area. From what he observed there was a couple strolling through the Dupont Circle; they looked normal enough, however looks could be deceiving that he knew for sure.
Director Hamilton strolled through Dupont until she found a bench, where she would have a clear view of everyone coming and going. This way she left nothing to chance in case whoever was behind Operation Thunderstorm and Mk Ultra came after her or her
They could always have a gun in behind their jacket or concealed somewhere? He couldn't take any risk with what he knew.
Andre began sauntering over there as he swifty tucked his pockets. Navgating his way through a crowd of people, his eyes darted back and forth searching for anyone who would have spotted a woman sitting on the bench with what looked like a hip holster. Carefully he took one last glance around he decided it was safe, so he proceeded over to the lady sitting and sat across from her.
"Laurette, You don't know who these powerful people these are behind Operation Thunderstorm and Project Mk Ultra," The Resident SVR spy said in a nervous tone.
"What aren't you telling me," Director Hamilton asked.
There was some silence before the Russian spy spoke again, he fidgeted trying to right words.
"Project MK Ultra dates to the Cold war. It was a top secret CIA black ops project in which your own agency aimed to develop techniques that could be used against our agents to control human behavior with drugs and other psychological manipulations. In other words to create unstoppable deniable asset; assassins."
Director Hamilton froze hearing this as a chill ran down her back. The only question on her mind was why they needed to create unstoppable assassins for? And what could they gain from it?
"Andrei, there has to be more than that?" Director Hamilton inquired.
"This is bigger than you and me Laurette. The KGB had learned about Project MK Ultra, through one of their assets inside the CIA. After that we were interested you could say," The Russian spy said in a nervous tone.
A shadowy figure watched from across the street from a cafe not too far away. The silencer-tipped Ruger was tucked behind his jacket. His jaw tightened. His eyes narrowed, his face went blank and his expression darkened. The man rose from the table where he had been sitting and placed some dollar bills on the table. His orders were clear: if it came to it he was supposed to terminate anyone who was a threat to Operation Thunderstorm and Mk Ultra.
He strides out through the front doors of the cafe as he darted across the busy congested traffic rushing past him and draws his gun. His Target was in plain sight. His muscles tensed. His finger rested on the trigger.
"How is Operation Thunderstorm connected to MK Ultra?" Director Hamilton questioned.
"Operation Thunderstorm is the successor to Project Mk Ultra but deadly and powerful," the Russian spy replied.
The gunman strolled over to some trees watching his prey and he quickly and swiftly made his way over to the bench, and raised his gun training on The Resident spy. A muzzled gunshot spewed out of the barrel, striking the Russian spy in his heart.
Director Hamilton quickly rose from the bench, her instinct sharp and drew her pistol. Her eyes seeing the vacant brutal look within his eyes. Before she could fire a shot at the gunman, he grabbed her, slamming her into a tree. People started panicking, screaming, rushing to get out of the way.
She waited for the right moment when he lowered his gun and when he did she would overpower him delivering a kidney strike punch to knock him unconscious.
"You have been noisey Madame Director in matters that don't concern you. Now your going to pay," The gunman snarled.
"That's where your wrong I'm the goddamn chief of the CIA and Director of National intelligence," Director Hamilton snapped in an angry tone.
Quickly grabbing the gunman's wrist, she violently twisted it, breaking the knuckles.
The gunman snarled in pain, " You have no idea who you are messing Madame Director."
"Tell me who ordered you to kill my asset," Director Hamilton demanded.
The gunmen felt his grip on his gun loosen as it fell to the ground. He with his KA-Bar from his stealth lunging at her with it. She sidestepped and caught him off guard delivering a kidney strike punch to Kidney that sent him to the ground unconscious.
She got down on knees and searched the gunman's pockets, finding nothing that could tell her who had ordered him to kill her asset. Slipping her pistol back into a hip holster, she jumped to her feet. All she knew now was that Operation Thunderstorm was the successor to the Program to create assassins. But Nicky's parents weren't assassins they were counter intelligence officers for C6 or they were?
Sauntering back over to her vehicle she carefully took in the surroundings to see if a team was waiting to terminate her if the gunman failed. She had a terrible feeling that she was way over her head but that wasn't going to stop from finding out what he really was going on in Venezuela and how Thunderstorm was connected to it.
Grabbing the door as she climbed in and closed it behind her before driving. Something kept nagging at her. How did the guman know where she was meeting her asset? She was pretty sure that she had told nobody or someone planted a listening device in her office without her knowing about it. She remembered what the gunman had to said to her.
"You have no idea who are you messing with."
Director Hamilton sped down the street, on her way back to the CIA headquarters. She wondered who was this asset inside the CIA back then who had told the KGB about Project Mk Ultra. Where the Russians and the CIA were working together on the Operation Thunderstorm. Nothing surprised her anymore after she uncovered a traitor in the CIA who was the Chief of the CIA had hired the Raptor to kill her best agent.
A few minutes later she pulled into the underground parking garage climbed out, closing the door behind as she hurried over to the private elevator. If these powerful forces behind the Program wanted to stop her they had no idea who they were dealing with . Sure they had silenced her asset and tried to silence her as well.
