Chapter 16: Waking Dreams

Percy wanted to curse both Morpheus and his brother Hypnos.

Seriously? Not only did he have to battle his envious half-brother by Poseidon and nearly die in the process, but now the gods felt the need to grant him the blessings of said pain while he slept?

How generous.

Shaking his head in both annoyance and acceptance, the Hound of War turned and took in his surroundings for the first time. He frowned at the sight of the beautiful cityscape he discovered as he rose from what appeared to be a bed made of seaweed and other soft, yet strange, materials and made his way to the window. Percy didn't bother to turn around as he felt the presence of his birth father a few feet behind him.

"Most people would be a tad more excited at the sight of Atlantis."

Percy managed a small smile as he replied, "We both know I am not most people."

Poseidon sighed as he took a seat, "No Perseus, you are definitely not most people." His brow furrowed into an emotion Percy couldn't quite recognize as he took the seat next to him, allowing the bed to drift in the.

"You make being different sound like some horrible plague or illness." His attempt at humor was met with silence, causing Percy to sigh and adjust his position, allowing the Sea god to see the seriousness on his face.

"Why am I here?"

Shaking his head, Poseidon stood up and beckoned Percy to the window, allowing both father and son to witness the beauty and grace of Atlantis once more before he replied.

"Isn't it beautiful son? Atlantis, the jewel of the sea and the envy of the world over. I built it myself, pouring my heart and soul into each building until it formed just what you see now." He let out another sigh, this one of pride and happiness as he faced his son, "Think of what we could do together if you were by my side. Eternally watching and guiding both this place and the sea onto a new golden age; a golden age that didn't have to end with the passage of time or fear of death."

Percy chuckled, "I doubt Triton or Amphitrite would see it that way."

Poseidon's eyes flashed a dangerously dark color and a cold chill cut through the water at the mention of his godly spouse and son. "I told the boy his actions would only bring about trouble, but it appears he didn't listen to me anymore than a fisherman would a fish pleading for its life. I do believe his disobedience and rebellious nature stems from his mother's influence, though I cannot be sure."

Percy merely nodded, "The sea does not like to be contained." At his father's sheepish look he continued, "I appreciate your offer father, but my place is among the warriors of Greece; would you have me abandon them for the safety or comfort of immortality in their time of greatest need?"

Poseidon raised a dark eyebrow, "I suppose not, but are you sure Greece is your only reason for denying my requests."

Even in the cool depths of the sea, Percy could still feel the heat rising on his face as his father chuckled, "No, they are not...I love Zoë, more than anything in this world. If I was to become immortal, I would abandon her just like everyone else in her life. I refuse to allow such a thing to happen, in this life or the next."

"But what if she could join you?" his father pleaded, "What if you could both be immortal?"

Percy paused for a moment before shaking his head. "I still can't abandon Greece to fight both Ares and Troy on her own."

Poseidon looked torn; his eyes a dark sea green as he began thinking long and hard, before a bright smile took its place and his eyes glowed brightly, "Become partially immortal."

The Hound of War opened his mouth to argue, but one look at his father's face told him that if he refused, his father would be unpleased and upset, and the Hound of War refused to disappoint one of the only people he still cared for. Sighing, he nodded his agreement and smiled at his father's look of happiness before a look of panic crossed his face.

"Father," he began cautiously, "how long has it been since I've fallen unconscious."

Poseidon furrowed his brow, "I would wager about…a month, maybe two?"

If Percy had not been worried before, he sure as Hades was now as thoughts of the war and Greece and Zoë reached into his remembrance…forget the war, if he was going to die by anyone it would be by Zoë!

"Father, if you want me to survive not just the war but my love's wrath, you have to send me back now!" The look of fear in his eyes at the thought of the former Hesperide's wrath was enough to send the Sea god chuckling, even more when Percy began glaring at him.

"Be at peace Perseus." Once his fit had finished and his tears had disappeared, Poseidon turned back to Percy and gave his son a deadly serious look, the color of his eyes darkening as he spoke.

"If nothing else, remember this; the sea will always come to your aid. You only have to call to it." At his son's nod he sighed before catching him in a steely embrace, "Goodbye my son. Fight well, and know I will always be proud of you, no matter your decisions."

Percy nodded as he gripped him just as firmly, "I will Father, I swear." He raised his hand and waved a farewell as his vision darkened yet again, "Fates guide your path, god of the Sea."

The last thing he saw before once again drifting along the currents of darkness was his father's farewell, his eyes tossing and turning just as his domain did as he smiled and waved in return."And yours as well, Hound of War."

Ω

As the darkness clouding his sight passed, Percy winced at the bright beams of sunlight dancing across his vision. Closing his now hazel eyes, he cautiously opened them, allowing the rays of Apollo's chariot to come gradually and allow him to see properly. As soon as he was sure he would not be blinded, he opened his eyes completely before taking in the place of his awakening

He was obviously still on the ship he had been placed on, seeing as how the entire cabin would slightly shift as the waves he felt around him casually tugged and tussled with the wooden hull. The room itself was sparse in design, with only the cot he was residing in for furniture or personal items. A few weapons and pieces of armor were stacked against the far side of the room, and Percy grinned once he realized they were his armaments. He had feared they had been lost during his struggle with Triton under the waves, and was overjoyed to find that not a single piece of his equipment was missing.

He was preparing to rise and examine his equipment when he realized he wasn't exactly alone on the cot.

For the first time since he had awoken, he realized there was a bit of weight lying on his chest, as if something or someone was sleeping on top of him. Risking a glance, he was met with a mane of raven tresses that rolled and splashed over him as Zoe shifted and mumbled in her sleep. Her coppery skin shined in the light that filed from the window, and a small, content smile crossed her lips as she curled into the warmth of his chest, causing the Hound of War to both blush and sigh.

'Why do I have to do the most stupid of things just to wake up and find her like this?' He paused before giving a small smile, 'By the gods she's beautiful.'

He contemplated just staying in his comfortable position for a while longer, but ultimately decided it would be best if he woke her and let her know he was awake and healed. Pausing for a moment, Percy then smiled as the perfect idea for waking her formed in his mind. Leaning forward, the Hound of War placed a soft kiss onto her lips, shivering slightly at the feel of her soft lips upon his own, before leaning back for a moment and grinning as her eyes fluttered open and adjusted to the light before her cool obsidian gaze met his own hazel, warm look.

"Perseus?" Her tone was soft and questioning, as if she were a curious child asking a parent about something innocent and beautiful.

Percy winced slightly as she shifted onto a rather sore spot on his breast to better look into his eyes. "Aye, it's me."

The former Hesperide didn't respond as she continued staring into his eyes, and for a moment, Percy was worried she was going to give him the beating he had been expecting, before she did something even more surprising.

Suddenly gripping his shoulders with strength true to a daughter of Atlas, Zoë slammed her lips onto his with a force and passion that surprised and stunned the Hound of War. For a moment he was shocked still, unmoving and unthinking, before he recovered and returned her gesture with just as much, if not more, emotion and feeling as the pair wove themselves in an embrace of both love and comfort.

After a moment or two that felt like it had lasted for hours on end, they both pulled back, allowing the pair to catch their breath as they stared into each other's eyes. Once there heavy pants had ceased and air had returned to their lungs, Zoë leaned back into his, her dark hair covering her eyes as she spoke in a whisper.

"You almost died."

Her vacant and empty voice was a far cry compared to the heated kiss they had just shared, but Percy knew it was something of a defense mechanism, like one of his uncle's machines that toiled and labored without cease.

"I know."

"Do you?" She sat still for a moment before she looked up, matching his warm look with a stare as cold and hard as a sheet of black rock as she sat up on the small bed and narrowed her eyes, "Do you know what would have happened to me if you had died? If you had perished at your brother's hands?"

"He is not my brother." Percy's eyes hardened and a flicker of red light glinted in his eyes as he matched his lover's look with one of his own.

"I would have followed shortly after you into Hades' realm." She continued, ignoring his interjection entirely, "Not by my own hand or another's, but by the shattering of my heart." Zoë paused, her throat filling with emotion before she swallowed it and continued, "Do you not understand Perseus? Do you not understand that without you, nothing ties me here, or anywhere else within this world or the next?"

She was pressing against him again, pinning him to the small bed as her eyes almost seemed to glow with both power and an unreadable emotion as she finished softly.

"Do you not know what would happen if you left me?"

Her tone was too much for him to take. He growled and grabbed her wrists, his eyes burning a bright red and the glamour coating his flesh disappearing as his power spiked to an almost godlike level. Latching his eyes onto hers, he made sure she didn't drop eye contact as he spoke.

"You would question me? Everything I have done has been for you! Every trial, every battle, every drop of blood of mine shed has been shed for you since the day we met! I would never leave you, not after everything we have gone through together!"

"Promise me then!" Both were standing now, nose to nose as both shivered and stood tall under the others gaze, "Promise me you will come back to me! Promise me you won't leave me like everyone has before you!"

Percy's eyes lost their shine and the glamour recovered, turning him once more into the man known as Patroclus as Zoë's eyes filled with unshed tears and she fell to the floor, sadness and grief overtaking her at the thought of his demise and loss in this war or in a time to come.

Percy joined her, kneeling down and taking the love of his life into his arms as he joined her in shedding tears and weeping. Wrapping his arms around him, she held onto him as a drowning man would a plank as they sat and grasped onto one another.

"I-I promise Zoë." He whispered as he ran his hands through her hair, doing all he could to soother her fears along with his own. "I promise I won't leave you…not for anything."

"Perseus…" Reaching up, she drew his head down and caught his lips in a soft kiss, allowing the both of them to release all their fears and sorrows into a single act as both held the kiss. Once they had released from their lock, he continued to hold her, whispering soft words into her ear as the ship drifted ceaselessly upon the tides of both the sea and fate.

A/N: Hm, seems Zoë is having a bit of trouble when it comes to worrying over Percy, huh? Anyway, I have NO idea how this chapter turned out, so if you wouldn't mind signing your soul- I mean Comment&Vote then that would be awesome.

Oh and before I forget, two things: One, I got into an argument! I mean sure, it took a while to understand (please use the English language when speaking instead of your native language of Gibberish), and sure, everything the guy (girl?) said was utterly ridiculous in my eyes, but so what?

Two,  I apologize for the late update time. I was in school and got lazy (Mostly lazy, but you didn't need to know that.) Anyway imma try to update more.

Cya later peeps.
