First off I want to say that I liked the cover of the book and thought it went well with the theme of the story. Plus it looked pretty as well.
Okay, so I want to talk about summary of the story quick after talking briefly talking about the cover. The summary is very short and I would recommend making it longer so people have more of an idea on what the story is about when going into it. But don't put too much in the summary and spoil what happens in the summary as well.
Okay so onto the pacing and plot of the story. The pacing of the story was going way too quickly and it made the plot seemed rushed in my opinion. It hardly gave any time to grasp on what was going on other than little scenes in between certain plot points that may or may not come up later in the story. Yes, I am aware that some stories start right in the middle of the action but that's only when it's done well and knows how to pace the story so we know what's going on and what the overall plot is as the story goes on. So, I would recommend slowing down the pacing a bit so the readers have more to really understand on what's going on in the story and not just confused in scenes that may be important later on in the story.
Ok, so I also want to talk about the magic system real quick in the story before moving onto the settings and characters so bare with me. So, I thought the concept of the spirits of the birth signs like Leo, Pisces, etc being a part of the story that makes up the magic system was interesting but even with that in mind, I felt like it was being rushed as well. Especially since it is book 1 of a series. Now with any fantasy series, it is good to start with the basics of the magic system and how it works. I felt like we weren't really having time to look at the book which contains information about the signs since the characters didn't really look through the books to begin with. But since it's book 1 of a series maybe the magic system gets build upon more as time goes on and it is done better in future books in the series.
Which brings me to the last thing that I want to talk about in this review and that is the settings and characters. Now, let's start with settings. The settings unfortunately were poorly described within the story. We didn't really get much of a description for the different settings since the almost everything else was pretty much rushed. Like from the college to the library, not much was described about them whatever so ever other than maybe one or two about them. So, I couldn't imagine what the setting or scene looked like in my head as the story and plot were unfolding. I would recommend taking the time to describe each setting that they're in so, readers can imagine it more clear in their heads. That way, you're rushing to get onto the scene and calling it a day. The second thing I want to talk about is characters. Oh boy the characters. They in my opinion were not good characters at all. Here's why, it's because there wasn't much to them whatsoever that I felt like all of them were one sided and didn't really have much going for them. Like we hardly time to get to know them and what they're like when the main character finds a book that her dad once owned and is somehow trying to find her dad when from what I could tell she wanted to start a new chapter in her life and not look for her dad and was perfectly happy with just her mom to begin with. Also, I want to bring up the point again about not knowing anything about the characters. Because I felt like it was a shame that the characters weren't flushed out well enough to make them interesting let alone worth caring about since they had no personality to them. Plus we got a romance from two side characters out of no where without any character development which is bad. There was literally no signs or hints that they liked each other whatsoever, it just happened cause reasons. Like I get the main character and Brandon since they've have more time together. So, I would recommend that you go and properly set up the characters so, the readers don't lose interest in the characters too quickly so then they're more interesting that way.
Overall, it's a okay story. It had flaws like any other book but it does have promise to be a great story. So, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading books like it.
Thanks for letting me review your book.
