She ran down the vast hallways of Empire Academy, her backpack thumping against her back as she raced to the clubroom. "They'll never stop bitching at me if I get there late." She muttered to herself. Everyday, classes ended at three thirty in the afternoon for the students of Empire Academy.
And at four on the dot, the Host Club opened its doors for their wealthy female guests.
It was ten past four when she finally reached the third music room on the south hall. Pushing the door open, she was amazed to see the entire room was transformed into a summer paradise.
"Welcome." The hosts greeted, dressed in tropically decorated swim trunks. Every single one of them was shirtless.
"Pfft." Louis scoffed, just like the first day. "Its only Kennedy."
"You need to stop raising our hopes. We thought we had a customer." Michael said with a roll of his eyes.
"Sorry." Kennedy murmured, but she didn't really mean it.
Looking at the time on his cellphone, Calum asked. "Why are you late, Kennedy? It is very important to be in the clubroom at least ten minutes before club activities begin. Now you don't have time to change into your summer outfit."
"Club activities? Oh, you mean drinking coffee and flirting with girls?" Kennedy mocked.
"Its not just flirting." Ashton grinned. "We're entertaining them."
"And why is the room decorated this way? I thought it was September, meaning that summer has been over for almost a month now." She wondered, counting the months with her fingers to make sure she was counting right.
Calum asked, "Do you have a problem with our club? Then I suggest you keep it to yourself. You do owe us eighty thousand dollars afterall, so you have no say in club decisions."
"Right, the renaissance vase..." She remembered.

"I'm glad that you could visit us today, my princess." Kennedy heard Luke say to one of the guests as she walked past them. "Your presence is like an oasis of love that has appeared in the lonely desert of my soul." He continued on about her being the sunshine of his love and more things Kennedy thought were complete bullshit until he mentioned something about a dance.
"We're throwing a party?" Kennedy asked.
Zayn, who was entertaining his own guests, not too far from where Kennedy stood, offered a reply. "Its a dance to honor all our beautiful guests."
Michael was in the back, with a group of gamer chicks, playing grand theft auto when he joined in on their conversation, but his eyes remained trained on the tv screen. "Yeah, we even reserved the school's best ballroom."
"How can you guys even afford that?" Kennedy asked.
"The boss has connections." Michael replied with a shrug.
Kennedy made her way to the table where Lou and Harry were entertaining their guests and set down a pot of coffee, one of tea, and individual plates of dessert. "Its really fun, we get to dance with all the beautiful ladies." Harry grinned.
Lou nodded, "Yeah." Kennedy turned around to walk back to her table, but Lou caught her hand, stopping her. "Thank you for bringing us some snacks, love." A grin flashed on his face.
"No problem." She nodded, pulling her hand from his reach and walking back to her own table.
As she sat down, a guest asked. "Kennedy, aren't you going to put on your swim trunks like the other boys?"
But Kennedy shook her head, smiling politely. "Oh no. I don't like to wear summer clothes once its no longer summer."
"Aww," The girl gushed. "You are so cute!"
"But Kennedy," Luke began, having overheard their conversation. "I went out and picked a nice summer outfit just for you. We'd match, wouldn't that be great?"
Somehow, she got the feeling that it wasn't a pair of swim trunks he wanted her to wear.
"I don't want to wear matching clothes with you..." She told him.
"Excuse me." A young woman walked up to Kennedy's table. "I think its time for the Hosts to entertain their next guest now."
"Oh," Kennedy looked at her, "You must be my next appointment."
The girl introduced herself with a smile, but Kennedy noticed she was faking it. In her eyes, she noticed, was a look of sadness. "My name is Elaine Richardson. And you must be the Host Club's newbie, Kennedy Lynn. You're even cuter than I expected." She reached out to touch Kennedy's face, her brown eyes examining her closely. "I decided, from now on, you are my new favorite host."
From the group of people next to her, she heard Luke choke on his cup of coffee.
And Kennedy wondered what was up with him.

After all the guests left, the hosts remained in the clubroom, putting things away. All except Luke, who sat on his couch with a sulk clear on his face.
"What's wrong with him?" Kennedy asked.
Liam explained, "He's upset that Princess Elaine changed him for you."
"She has had the illness for a while." Calum pointed out.
Kennedy gasped. "What illness?"
"The host hopping disease." Louis said.
"Also known as the: never-the-same-host-twice disease." Harry added. "When our guests come here, we offer them a wide variety of personalities. And by the end of their firs visit, they already have a favorite host. But not her. Elaine Richardson went through each of us."
Niall nodded in agreement. "Yeah. Cause before she chose you, Princess Elaine was with Luke. And girls who chose him, always stick with him."
"He has a sixty percent request rate." Calum said. "While the other forty percent of requests are divided almost evenly between the remaining eight, now nine, members of the Host Club."
"Oh," She concluding, putting all the information together. "He's upset cause I took her from him."
That seemed to snap him out of his thoughts. Getting up from his seat on the couch, he countered, "That's not it at all. I'm upset because you're doing so well with the ladies when you yourself are a lady." Pulling out a copy of her school ID photo, in which she had long hair, he told her, "I want you to look like this again. You were so beautiful." He cried.
"Where did you get that picture?" She glared at him.
"Calum gave it to me." Luke replied. "He made a copy of it when you left your backpack on the sofa."
"You can't do that!" Kennedy complained. "That's an invasion of my privacy."
"You know," Louis began, turning on an overhead projector which showed two pictures of Kennedy next to each other. One was from her ID and the other was from the very first day, when she broke the vase. He and the other hosts observed the photos. "As much as I look at this, I don't understand."
Harry agreed. "How did this," he pointed to her ID photo, "become that?" He asked, pointing at the other picture.
She sighed in frusration. "The day before school started, a little boy in my neighborhood got some gum in my hair and it was really hard to get it out so I cut it all off. I mean, I don't care if I look like a boy, you know."
"So that's why you wore your dad's clothes as a uniform." Ashton concluded.
"I feel more comfortable in pants." She nodded, "Besides, the girl's uniform in this school is a dress. And I'm not really into dresses."
"But we want you to be a girl again!" Luke complained, pointing at her ID picture.
She snatched it from his hands. "Don't you ever make copies of my pictures without asking me first. What the hell is wrong with all of you?"
And she ripped the picture to pieces right before his eyes.
