[ 12 ] when brothers fight
Once a month, the Host Club had a day when they would have no one in the club room. This was a day when they would schedule no appointments with their guests and just used the time to relax on their own. For Kennedy Lynn, it was more of a chore to stay in the club room when there were no guests. Her only reason for being in the host club was because of all that money she owed them.
Michael was playing video games in the far end of the room, and Liam was sat on the couch watching the video game screen. Zayn was in another corner of the room painting on a large canvas. Kennedy thought he looked very concentrated in his smock and paint palette ready in hand. Niall and Ashton were at their small table where they shared their snacks with the guests. On this day they were having chocolate cake on their own. At the long conference table where they had meetings with the club were Kennedy, Louis, Harry, Calum, and Luke. Calum was watching a soccer game on his laptop and Luke was working on his math homework while Louis and Harry were having a conversation with Kennedy.
"I'm bored!" Harry groaned, throwing his head back and closing his eyes. He hated the days in which they had nothing to do. He preferred entertaining the guests because it gave him a distraction.
"Hey Kennedy," Louis started, trying his best to come off as casual. But the smirk was making its way onto his lips and Kennedy knew she wouldn't like what he would say next. "When are you gonna invite us to your house?"
Upon hearing this question, Luke lifted his gaze from his math homework and watched them curiously. He was also curious to know where Kennedy lived.
The freshman student shook her head. "Why do you want to go there?"
Louis shrugged in his response. "I just want to see how the peasant class lives."
She instantly narrowed her eyes at him.
"You are not invited to me house." She told him, explaining, "My dad would probably think I'm a woman pimp if I take nine boys over there."
"Well aren't you?" Harry winked.
Kennedy felt her cheeks redden slightly. "Very funny, Harry."
"Invite us to your house." The boy with curly brown hair whined.
"No." She refused.
Harry was about to continue in his complaints and whining when Kennedy felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned her head to see Michael standing there. She hadn't even noticed when he paused the video game since she was concentrated in her conversation with the two step-brothers.
"Want to play video games with me?" The boy with white colored hair asked.
He knew how much pestering Louis and Harry could do and wanted to save Kennedy from that. She nodded her head and pushed her chair back to stand up. "Sure." She told him with a smile.
"We'll play too." Harry quickly said as h stood up to follow them.
"Kennedy and I against you two." Louis said with a grin. He was quick to hurry to Kennedy's side and linked arms with her.
Harry stomped his foot on the ground in a tantrum. "That's unfair! I want to be Kennedy's partner."
His step-brother blew him a raspberry. "Not my fault she prefers me."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Harry asked, his green eyes darkening in annoyance. But the look on Louis' face was one of pure delight.
He was the same as his step-brother. He hated having nothing to do, and the rest of the club had already seen them do this type of thing. Whenever they had their day of doing nothing, Harry and Louis would always try to start arguments with people. Though this was the first time they were doing this with each other. Normally they tried to annoy Luke or sometimes Calum.
"Face it, Hazz." Lou shrugged his shoulders. "She prefers me because I'm the better brother."
The boy with emerald green eyes looked at the only girl in the room. "Kennedy, is that true?"
She had no idea what was happening. It had all escalated so quickly that she was utterly confused.
"Harry-" She started, but was cut off by Louis.
"Of course it is." The blue eyed step-brother said.
"Fine." Harry snapped. He turned on his heel and returned to the table where his back pack and guitar case were. Slinging his back pack on his shoulder first and then the guitar case, he hissed angrily, "Fuck all of you, I'm leaving."
Everyone watched as he walked to the front door and left, slamming it shut behind him. Kennedy was horrified, Louis was smirking, and the others just watched as though it were something normal.
Kennedy wrenched her arm out of Lou's grip and turned to stand in front of him. "What the hell was that?" She asked the blue-eyed step brother, her own brown eyes were still widened in the shock of seeing them argue that way.
"Why are you mad at me?" Louis countered her question with one of his own. "He's the one who got all offended like a little bitch. He's the one who practically told us all to go to hell."
"Because of what you said to him." She pointed out.
"He'll get over it by tomorrow." Louis assured her.
-
But the next day, Kennedy noticed Harry was far from having gotten over it. Since the three of them were in the same grade level and the step-brothers were in most of her classes, she was able to notice from the get go that things were not back to normal.
As Kennedy arrived to school, she saw two black cars pull up in a line of other cars that belonged to students of Empire Academy. These two cars stood out because of their chrome license plate frames. They had the name Styles-Tomlinson on them, meaning that both cars came from the same house. Harry emerged from the first car, curly brown hair nearly covering his emerald green eyes that were already concealed behind black sunglasses. His Empire Academy uniform was neatly ironed and free of any wrinkles, as was expected for a member of the host club.
He slung his black back pack on his shoulder, shut the car door and walked up the path to the entrance while Kennedy watched him and Louis tried desperately to catch up.
"Harry!" The mischievous host called after his step-brother in almost a whiny way as he grabbed his back pack off the back seat and raced up the cobblestone path. But all Harry did was to pick up the pace in order to avoid Louis.
Right at the front steps that led into the school stood Kennedy, and Louis stopped by her side. He let out a sigh of defeat, watching Harry disappear into the crowd of students.
"Looks like Harry's still mad." Kennedy commented.
Louis let out a light chuckle. "You should have seen him at home. I tried to lighten the situation by telling a few jokes at dinner. The glares he shot me were probably sharper than a knife."
"Maybe you should apologize." She suggested. As the entrance of the school cleared up a bit, they both walked in together.
He shook his head. "I don't feel like I did anything wrong. Harry is just overly sensitive."
Kennedy gave a shrug of her shoulders. "It looks like both of you are just too proud to apologize, and that's going to screw you both up. You're brothers and I've seen how much you both care about each other. Don't let a petty fight get in between that."
But Louis only brought his hands behind his head in a very nonchalant manner. "Like I said, I don't think I did anything wrong."
Kennedy rolled her eyes. She knew that as long as Louis wasn't willing to apologize for making Harry upset, then Harry wouldn't let it go. She had never seen the step-brothers argue before and it worried her.
-
All through their classes, Harry and Louis ignored each other. Once it was established that Harry wanted nothing to do with Lou, the latter just stopped trying and chose to ignore his step-brother the same way he was being ignored. In their classes that they had with Kennedy, they both wanted her attention and they both wanted her to sit with them, starting arguments that disrupted their teacher's lesson.
When the lunch bell rang, she made her way to the cafeteria to heat up her meal. Then she would sit with the other boys of the host club.
As she reached their table and slid her tray next to Harry, he turned and looked at her foot. It was coconut rice with vegetables, some grilled chicken, and salad. Without even asking her, he grabbed her plate of food and slid his in front of her.
"Hey-" She began to protest.
But he explained before she could continue, "Trade you lunches. I had to get something different today because Louis and I always get the same food, and I ended up with things I don't like."
Kennedy looked down at the plate of food in front of her. It was some kind of oriental dish. Stir fry with noodles and vegetables. It was warm and freshly prepared and made her mouth water. Her food was just something she had made at home that she had to reheat at school. The lunches at Empire Academy were expensive and she could not afford them. But students like Harry could even afford to waste them.
The rest of the boys were already at the table eating their meals. The only two missing were Louis and Luke. Luke arrived first and when he saw the pink tupperware container in front of Harry, with the name KENNEDY written out in capital letters, he questioned it.
"Why are you eating Kennedy's lunch?" The blonde haired boy glared at his club mate.
Harry shot him a smirk. "She made a special lunch just for me." He said to Luke. Even though he was upset at Louis, he still had the energy to annoy Luke.
Luke's jaw dropped in shock, as well as a hint of jealousy.
"Well, why aren't you making lunch for me, Kennedy?" He asked with a pout of his lips.
"Because I'm not your servant." She replied, adding a clarification, "I didn't make a special lunch for Harry. We traded because he didn't like the food he bought."
Sliding his plate forward as an offering, Luke said to Harry, "I'll trade you my lunch for that one."
But the boy with curly hair shook his head. "No thanks."
Soon after, Louis arrived and Harry went silent again. It seemed like this was getting to be more serious than Kennedy thought.
