Himani was narrating the entire incident to everyone again. The boys listened to her intently.
"Oh god, baby come here." Sumedh pulled Himani over his lap. He snuggled his head in her neck. They were all sitting in an empty cafeteria of the college. Classes were going on as usual but all of them bunked.
"I'm afraid that the police might come anytime to interrogate us." Sameeksha said pacing back and forth. Abhay was watching his girlfriend lose her mind. He felt helpless. He wanted to calm her down but her attention was elsewhere.
"Listen, everything is gonna be okay, you hear me?" Abhay twirled Sameeksha around and made her look into his eyes. Her eyes sparkled. She loved it when Abhay showed his concern for her. She loved his attention.
"We're missing something." Devaki tapped her foot on the ground, lost in deep thought.
"Devaki, I think you should have told the police." Karan, Devaki's boyfriend, said. Devaki looked at him helplessly.
"I was scared. I didn't know what to say and what not to say." Devaki exhaled.
"You're a law student." Parul rolled her eyes. Devaki glared at her.
"I'm also the daughter of a prominent lawyer and didn't want to look like an idiot if something went wrong with my statements." Devaki explained.
"Then call the inspector and tell him the truth right now." Siddharth suggested.
"Oh god, please no, I don't have the strength to face them again. They ask you so many questions that you actually start doubting your own non-existent criminal records." Malavika whined. Everyone chuckled.
"Malavika, you're unbelievable." Bandana laughed.
Devaki looked disturbed. She was lost in a trance. She remembered how she had noticed a movement outside the window when they were in Natasha's house. Karan gently squeezed her hand. She snapped back to reality.
"Uh, I think we should tell the police." Devaki said.
"Is it necessary?" Malavika asked.
"I-I can't believe we're being involved in a case concerning a girl from our college." Sara said suddenly. Everyone looked at her.
"What do you mean?" Rohit asked.
"I mean our college is so reputed, the top management and committee will never let even a small black spot appear on the college's image. The sudden disappearance of a girl after a supposedly fire...don't you think something is fishy? Like maybe someone trying to degrade our college?" Sara explained.
Devaki gasped. Suddenly, many minor details of the case started forming an image in her head.
"You know what? You're probably right! Oh my god. Sara, thankyou so much!" Devaki yelped excitedly. She got up and collected he things.
"I guess I'll catch up with you guys later." Devaki left quickly. Everyone was stunned. Even Sara, looked shocked by Devaki's sudden burst of energy.
"That was quick." Karan sighed. His girlfriend was always looking for clues. He wanted her to decode clues leading to him, not some futile kidnapping case.
Suddenly the intercom started buzzing and their principal's piercing voice exploded through the speakers.
"Parul Patle from Medical section, you're required immediately in the Principal's office. I repeat, Parul Patle from Medical section required immediately in the Principal's office." Mrs. Falero's sternness was evident in the announcement.
Parul froze. Siddharth grabbed her hand.
"What in the heaven was that?" Sameeksha asked looking scared.
"Shit." Parul cussed and left.
