The Creature

You had heard the stories as you grew up, but you never believed them. You didn't even believe in the tooth fairy, so it was to be expected that you never believe the Bloody Grinner could be real. But boy, were you wrong. You found out first hand that he was real and when you first heard the bone-chilling deep laugh coming from behind you, you wished you had believed your parents and friends and followed their warnings. Unfortunately, it was far too late for regrets and hopes, the people only heard his laugh, when he decided you were his next prey.

Earlier that night, you were out with your friends, celebrating a friend's new promotion. Drinks had been consumed and all your money was spent. When it was time for you all to go home, you didn't want to admit to your friends that you were broke, so you told them you would get a cab of your own and head home soon.

"Alright, but be careful, don't try to walk back to your apartment alone. You may not believe in him, but he's real." Your closest friend, Sarah told you.

"Yeah, yeah. Don't worry, I'll stay in the light as I wait for my cab. I won't walk home." You assured your friends. The route to your apartment was a bunch of dark alleys and dimly lit roads no one traveled on so late at night. Even though you were lying, your friends believed you and left. Once you gathered up your purse, you left the bar and began walking down the sidewalk. You had done this a few times already, walked to your apartment in the dark, and yet no one ever bothered you, other than a few drunks. You figured tonight would be the same. "The Bloody Grinner, what a stupid name for a made-up creature." You thought about the stories your parents would tell you about.

Supposedly it was a 9 foot, dark skinny mass with long arms and needle-like fingers. It was said to have huge red glowing eyes with blood dripping from them, a huge mouth in a permanent grin with sharp razor teeth, with blood oozing from it. Its fingers were coated with blood and it reeked of death. When it made its choice about who to eat next, it would let out a laugh but not just any laugh, a laugh that would send chills down your spine and bones; you could even feel it in your soul. It supposedly ate people while they were alive but since it only went after people alone in the dark, no one could ever prove the stories. That's why you didn't believe in the stories. They were never proven, and there was no way anyone could prove it unless they wanted to die. To make matters more impossible to prove its existence, he only showed himself to people he was going to kill, and no one has lived through his attacks.

By the time you were done thinking, you only had a few more dark alleys to walk down before you reached your apartment. You were feeling smug. Of course, you were right. Nothing was going to happen to you, but like in the horror movies, as soon as you told yourself that, you heard a hint of a laugh. You looked behind you and saw nothing. You just shook your head and chuckled, figuring it was your imagination or someone in one of the apartments with an open window. As you walked down the incredibly dark alley, you pulled out your phone and turned the screen on, not thinking about the creature, just worried about drunks jumping you.

About halfway down the alley, your phone decided that it was a good idea to die. You sighed and put it away before quickening your pace. That was when the horrible stench of blood and death hit you. In front of you, you then heard a laugh that was described to you many times. You froze you instantly. Your fear took hold and you turned and ran. The laughing stayed behind you, even as you entered the dimly lit streets. It seemed to stop when you stopped to breathe under a street light. It didn't enter the street; it stayed in the dark alley.

"I should have listened to everyone who warned me." You grumbled to yourself. You knew it was pointless now though. Though you had some hope, he always stayed in the dark, so as long as you stayed in the street light, he couldn't get you. You smiled, still not facing the creature, but it quickly faded once you heard the laugh again. You turned slowly to the alley you heard the laugh once again. You turned to the alley you had just come from to see something you only ever heard about. It was him. Full black figure, maybe even over 9 feet, huge glowing red eyes and huge razor sharp-toothed mouth both oozing blood. It was crawling on its huge fingers and long legs, smiling and laughing at you. You watched it enter the light fully, and then pause. It didn't seem like the light even bothered him.

"I'm coming for you!" The creature said, in a deep sing-songy voice as he laughed, crouched down like a cat ready to pounce. All at once, he lunged at you and your body began to move. You screamed out in pure terror and began to run. You ran, checking behind you as you did. It was faster than you and catching up quickly. There were a few other people on the street, but they ignored you. They knew what was happening and they didn't want to get involved with it. So you tried to evade the monster by running through alleys and through busy streets, but with how long it was, it caught you quickly. As you tried to turn onto a bright road, the creature lunged at you and caught your foot. The sudden jerking to a stop sent you flying onto the group. Your face smacked the ground with an audible crack, which was your nose breaking.

"N-No..." You groaned out as you descended into darkness; you passed out cold. As you lay unconscious, the monster began to drag your body into the dark alley that was dark but had the light of the street flowing into it. He wanted to eat you then, but he wanted to hear your screams more, so he waited for you to wake up. Which you did, about 10 minutes later. "Where am I?" You mumbled to yourself, confused at what was going on.

"Don't worry, you'll be in my stomach soon." The monster whispered sweetly in your ear. You began to scream, but it was pointless. He began grabbing your left arm and shoulder, before pulling so hard, that your arm came right off. You screamed louder than you ever had before. To your screams, the creature began laughing. Then he yanked off your other arm. He inspected both of them before throwing them away. "Your arms didn't have enough meat; it's now your abdomen that I want." The creature laughed and moved to get into a better biting position. That was when you realized you were naked. That was the only thing you could realize, because the creature quickly took a large bite into your side, breaking bones and sending your blood all over. You couldn't even scream. The pain was so great that it made you just lay there, frozen. The creature didn't like that. He pulled away and reached into the hole he created in your body and began pulling out your organs and taking bites of them. As he did so, he decided to squeeze your heart to ensure you began screaming again, which you did.

As he continues devouring you, a woman walked by with her dog. She looked over at you and could barely see you. Thinking you were a druggy or drunk needing help, she turned on the flashlight on her phone and pointed it at you. She could only see your floating organs and all of the blood, along with your arms, one of which her dog began to nibble on. She knew instantly what was going on and began to scream. You croaked out a help me, but the woman just picked up her dog and ran away, screaming. You could now only lay there, listening to your bones being cracked and crunched, your organs being torn apart and chewed and all of the blood splattering everyone with every bite the creature took. Between bites, the creature laughed and told you how good your organs tasted. You could no longer scream, and the world was disappearing, much to your delight. As you lay there, silently sobbing and whimpering, your only thought was 'Damn, I can't believe the Bloody Grinner is real..." With that, you escaped from the creature, by dying of blood loss.
