The Creature 2

Everyone knew of the Bloody Grinner, some believed the stories and some didn't. Most people fell into either category, however, there were some people who just didn't care whether it existed or not. You were part of that group, so you bravely walked the streets of your town at night while others hid away. That's what led you here, outside your lover's house, walking down their porch, planning to walk home.

"Are you sure you won't stay?" It was a question you heard many times from many people. Each time you got asked it, it got a little more annoying.

"I go home in the dark all of the time, I doubt this time will be any different." You responded coldly to your lover. The two of you had gotten into a fight and you really would rather risk being killed than stay there another moment. "Besides, it's not like any stories about that creature has been going around recently, so I'm sure if the thing is real, then I'm safe." It was quite ironic, as you said that, you felt a chill. It was like you were in a horror movie and you were that one guy who is too cocky and gets killed first. You shook it off and walked away, not wanting to hear any more comments from the person standing in the doorway, too afraid to even come outside. You were a mile from the house when you came upon the field you use to get to your apartment. You walked this field many times, during the day and the night so you knew it well. So it was surprising when you suddenly tripped over something that wasn't there when you had walked through earlier on in the day. You fell to your knees, whatever you tripped over was large. So with just the light of the moon, you turned around, got up and brushed yourself off before looking at what you tripped over. It was a body, a bloody, torn open body. The neck was clearly snapped and the wrong direction, the abdomen was sliced open with guts spilling out of it. You thought if you ever saw a dead body you'd freak out or something, but the only thing you felt was the annoyance at the probability that now there was blood on your clothing.

"This is just ridiculous. I am too tired to deal with this movie type bullshit." You grumbled, annoyed at the body and the situation. It made you feel like you were in a movie, which pissed you off, but you couldn't help but laugh. Of course, you'd be the one to find a random dead body so late at night. However, your laughter stopped when you heard something else laughing with you. You just calmly turned around and looked to see if there was anything there or if you were just imagining things. At first, you didn't see anything, but then you saw many things moving around, meaning your eyes were just playing tricks on you now. "Well, whatever." You began to pull out your phone to call the police when a loud ear-splitting scream came from directly behind you. It caused you to gasp and fall to the ground, next to the dead body.

"That's what you're supposed to do." A sing-songy voice said from behind you. Once your heart started beating again, you turned around, getting up as you did so. You couldn't help the involuntary gasp. The thing that screamed was all black with long fingers, arms, and legs that were all covered in blood. It was clearly over 9ft tall however it was crouched down to be at eye level with you, which gave you perfect view of its red eyes, with blood flowing from them. It's razor sharp teeth were clear to see, as the thing was smiling creepily and hungrily at you.

"Um..." Was all you could get out before it laughed, the laugh you were warned about. The bone-chilling, soul-rattling laugh that confirmed that this was the Bloody Grinner. You took a deep breath, calming yourself to rationally think this through.

"Too scared to run?"

"No, too annoyed to speak. I get you are this monster or whatever, but still, it's rude to scream in people's ears like that." You told the creature, scolding it. "You should really apologize."

"Apologize? I kill people nightly, why would I apologize for screaming?" He responded, confused and without the sing-songy voice. Its voice was like a regular human's which was a bit shocking.

"Yeah well, killing people is rude too, but you probably made my ears go a bit deaf." You stared at the being, as it just smiled at you, unmovingly. "Aren't you going to kill me now or something?"

"You are dead inside, I have no interest in eating someone who doesn't even want to live."

"Oh, well then can I go home? I'm tired and really just want to sleep now."

"You are the first human I've come across that didn't run or even care about seeing me." It then laughed as it spoke the sentence, a real laugh and not one that you had heard from it before. You opened your mouth to respond, however, it already began to move at you. You could do nothing to stop it from grabbing you and taking off with you in its arms. The sudden movement caused your head to spin, eventually causing you to pass out and become swallowed by darkness.

Hours later, you woke up in a house that was clearly abandoned. All the windows were boarded up and the little light in the room was only coming from a few candles around the room. You were completely alone in the room, however, you didn't get a chance to do anything more than sit up in the makeshift bed you were on, which was made from old clothes and old curtains. The door to the room opened up, revealing the creature from earlier holding what looked like cooked meat.

"Hello human." The creature told you, setting the food down next to you. You just looked at it, confused. "You need food to survive, so eat." It sat down a few feet away and watched you pick up the food.

"Why am I here?" You questioned, taking a bite out of the food. It surprisingly tasted good.

"You are now mine. Once you saw me, you became unable to have a regular human life."

"What do you mean?" You were concerned by its words. It wasn't like you cared much, as your life wasn't great or anything, but you didn't want to stop existing altogether.

"You are changing. This is what happened to me, I was once a normal human and I was targeted by one of my kind. It chose to not kill me, and instead brought me here. It told me that something within you changes when you are granted the ability to see one of us. You will start craving human flesh, and once you begin to eat from a human, the chemical change within you will be activated and you will begin to physically change into one of us." The creature said as you stared, slightly scared and unsure of what to say.

"Why would one of you chose to leave a human alive?" You asked once you processed all that was said.

"To grow our population. What you call a 'Bloody Grinner' cannot reproduce and only have a lifespan of 50 years. We need to continue our species even if we were born human. It is just like humans wanting to continue with their species. We just wish to live."

"So, this food, is human meat isn't it?"

"Yes. The change will take place within one week, at the end of the week you will look exactly as I do."

"I see, well, I guess I have no choice in the matter, so okay then." You weren't exactly thrilled with your new situation, but there was nothing you could do so you might as well just accept it and go with it. "Do you have a name?" You questioned, deciding to befriend the creature since you'll be stuck with it for awhile.

"My name is Randal, or it was when I was human." He responded, after a moment of thought to recall what he was once called. The change that took place within the week was horrifying. First, your hunger for human flesh grew to the point it was painful and your new friend had to feed you as you could not move. Next, your skin began to decay and peel off, as if your insides were rejecting it. It was painful to peel off your skin, but the pain of that went away with eating more human flesh. Next, your bones grew, pushing through and tearing what little skin remained and even through muscles and anything else in its way. The growing is what hurt the worst, you could feel your body tearing itself and repositioning it to become like Randal. Once the week was up, you looked exactly like Randal did, and you were ready to go out and hunt for a human with Randal's supervision. You knew exactly who you wanted to kill first, your ex-lover. It was more like something inside you craved their flesh and needed to cause them suffering. Therefore that is where you went; to their house once it got later into the night. Once you got to the house and got into it, you found your ex-lover in bed, sleeping.

You dragged them out of bed, throwing them onto the floor to ensure they woke up. Once their eyes met yours, they screamed, and you laughed. You knew you wanted to take it slowly, so you started with a bite to the leg. The taste of blood in your mouth was like heaven. It was delicious and the food you had been eating couldn't even come close to the taste. You couldn't help but tear out the flesh that was in your mouth so you could properly devour the taste. It was intoxicating, almost made you glad to be inhuman now. You then decided to tear into the other leg, to see if it tasted any different, which it didn't but still, it was good.

"The closer you get to the heart, the better the taste," Randal informed you from where he was, holding down your ex-lover. You nodded your head and moved to the abdomen area. You slowly eased your hand into the body and began to open it up, using your other hand as well. Once the skin and other barriers were out of the way, you pulled out what you assumed was the liver, and took a bite out of it. That taste was nothing like the leg. It was heaven, it was so good you thought you would pass out from it. That was where you snapped, your control and want to take it slow vanished and you began tearing into the body like a starved animal. Blood flowed, bones snapped, guts went all over. The body could no longer be identified as a body. Once your feast was over, you lay on the floor, reveling in the pleasure that came from devouring the human you once loved.

"Thank you." You told Randal. You were happier now than you ever were before when you were human. "Can we go find another?" You were eager to continue until you were fully satisfied.

"Of course." Was all the creature said to you. You weren't sure how well your new life would go, but you knew that it would be much better than anything it could have been before.
