22 | Starting Afresh With A Clean Slate
W Y A T T K I N G
"Keagon is now officially Keagon Marie King."
The world freezes around me for a second before my mother's words make sense to me.
Keagon King.
She's my sister now.
Aria can't take her away now. She'll be my sister, for life - that is if I don't accidentally kill her off too.
My legs move on their own accord and soon I am in my room.
I don't know how long I stay in there but eventually there's a knock.
My mom enters before I can reply and closes the door behind her.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing," I mumble as I try to hide the album under my bedsheets. My mom sighs before coming to sit next to me.
"Why do you not like Keagon?"
"Why should I like her?" I mutter and my mom sighs.
"What happened was not your fault, Wyatt. It was fate playing out. And if anything you gave her an extra month to live. And she definitely wouldn't want you to torture yourself over it." My mom explains for the umpteenth time.
Whatever she says doesn't matter, because deep down I know. Only I know.
If only I hadn't been so immature and jealous - she'd probably be alive now.
"It's time you forgot everything and started afresh and it's not fair to Keagon and Aria the way you treat them. You are her brother now, act like it."
Aria? I never treated Aria rudely―at least not in front of my mother.
"You think I didn't hear you asking her to leave?" Mom gives me a strained smile and leaves.
Of course, she heard it, that's exactly why she called the lawyer early.
Start afresh, Wyatt.
You are her brother now, act like it.
It's not fair to Aria and Keagon the way you treat them.
The words echo in my head as I fall asleep.

I get ready for school, putting my hear into two braids. Shrugging on a black tank top and skinny blue jeans, I head downstairs for breakfast not bothering to do makeup.
"Morning, Keegs." I greet Keagon when I see her eating peanut butter straight out of the jar.
"Morning." She flashes me a smile and continues to eat.
"Where's Carol?"
"She already left for office." Keagon answers. I shrug and make myself a bowl of lucky charms and pour in a glass of milk.
"You want some?" I ask Keagon and she shakes her head for a 'no' and instead takes a glass of milk.
Wyatt enters dressed in black jeans and a white button-up shirt.
Did I mention that I hate white?
But Wyatt pulled it off really well.
I thought you didn't like Wyatt?
Ugh, just because I don't have a crush on him now doesn't mean that I can compliment him in my head.
Yea, right and I am Selena Gomez. Bah.
"Shut up!"
Wyatt and Keagon look at me and Wyatt quirks up an eyebrow.
"I didn't even open my mouth this time."
"I wasn't talking to you," I mumble spooning in some of my cereal.
"Hey! Who are my Lucky Charms?" Wyatt asks looking inside the empty box. I give a guilty smile as I raise my hand like a kid.
Wyatt looks like he wants to say something but takes a deep breath then speaks.
"It's okay, I'll just have some milk."
Fifteen seconds later...
"Who drank my milk!?" Wyatt asks as he turns around from the fridge. Keagon stares at Wyatt for a second before grabbing her half-full glass of milk and chugging it into her mouth.
"It's not fair! One ate my Lucky Charms while the other drank my milk." Wyatt cries staring at the empty carton and I roll my eyes.
"Why God? Why do you do this to my food? I love foo― "
I spoon into his mouth some lucky charms from my bowl and he shuts up.
"Stop being a baby, you can have it. I am full." I tell handing him the bowl of the now slightly soggy lucky charms.
"You do realize that you just kissed me indirectly, right?" He asks me and it's my turn to quirk an eyebrow up.
"Well, you licked the spoon and now I licked it so..."
"You are such a perv." I swat at his hand.
"What? It is true." Wyatt says following me to the car.
Keagon and Wyatt sit at the side while I get stuck in the middle. Wyatt brought his bowl of lucky charms into the freaking car.
"What stop glaring at me? Breakfast is necessary for a growing boy like me." Wyatt scoffs at me and I roll my eyes.
Why does he sound kind of like Brandon right now?
Keagon just sits quietly and stares out of the window fiddling with her Doraemon themed water bottle, which is very unlike her.
I haven't forgotten about yesterday. After Carol announced that she had called the lawyer home early, Wyatt went off to his room without a word. I can't take keagon away now even if I wanted too... Not that I was going to go it.
And Wyatt hasn't made any rude comments about Keagon... yet.
And Keagon's uncharacteristically quiet.
"Your stop, Miss," Max says from the front and Keagon opens the door.
"Bye!" She yells out and I smile as I wave at her. She looks pointedly at Wyatt waiting for him to wish her but when all he does is stare at his bowl of soggy lucky charms she walks away.
The car starts to move again and it's eerily silent except for the sound of Max crunching on his Doritos.
When is that guy not eating? Can't blame him though, food is amazing.
"We are here," Max announces and Wyatt and I get off without a word.
"Have a good day in school and do not fight," Max chides at Wyatt, and he rolls his eyes.
"We are not kids, Max."
I enter the school, not bothering with Wyatt, and my eyes automatically search for Reece. I stop walking when I see them.
Megan and Andrew.
Kissing.
"Hey! Wha― " Wyatt crashes into my back and I turn around not wanting to stare at the lovely couple.
"Why are you standing in the middle?' Wyatt asks rubbing his shoulder.
"Nothing," I whisper as I walk in the other direction.
"I―Uhh, wanted to ask you something." He whispers back.
"I am not in the mood Wyatt, just go away," I mumble waving my hand hoping he'd disappear.
"No, you need to hear this, or I'll back out later," Wyatt takes a deep breath. "I am... sorry." He says and looks at me for an answer.
"You already apologized yesterday and I forgave you, so it's all okay." I flash him an assuring smile.
"I―I don't mean that," His cheeks turn a light shade of pink. "I want you to give me a clean slate - forget all the rude things I have done. You know, start afresh. Forget the old me."
He wants me to act like I am meeting him for the first time?
Like he didn't make rude comments about Keagon?
Like he didn't embarrass me at the mall by not paying for a freaking teddy?
Like he didn't behave like an asshole to both Keagon and me?
Wyatt looks at me with his hopeful dark eyes begging me to say 'yes.'
He doesn't want me to forgive; he wants me to forget.
"No."

So what do you think? Pretty boring? Honestly, I don't even know what I am writing - I tried to make this chapter funny but Idk if that was the end result lol.
Wyatt is trying to turn over a new leaf - What do you think of that?
And is Wyatt being unreasonable by asking Aria to forget?
And what was that last line? lol.
I have been waiting for half an hour for my book to reach 9000 reads from 8,999 - but it's still at 8,999 -_- So I decided to just publish it.
And the cover above is made by the amazing @katherineWitherspoon She has a nice graphic shop, check it out if you're interested!
Question of the chapter - What is the most useless talent you have?
I'll answer if someone answer ;)
Last chapter's question was favorite cartoons, I promised that I'd answer if someone answered and you all did :D I like Horrid Henry, Tom & Jerry, but mostly I watch Doraemon and Miraculous Ladybug.
Don't forget to vote and comment!
