Chapter 7

A L'UKULELE HIT

Stop the presses!

Paris' own super musician Luka Couffaine, 25, has just smashed records with his newest hit, featuring his self made ukulele.

Couffaine has been touring the globe for over four years and has finally hit the big time, duetting with none other than his father Jagged Stone, 45. The duet between the father and son, named 'A Wish Too Far', has soared into the number one spot in thirty countries. That's right readers, thirty countries!

The song's recent success in France also stopped XY's cover of 'You're so vain' and Clara Nightingale's 'No rhyme, no talk' from claiming the top spot on the billboard charts.

Couffaine, a good friend to the magazine, has once again been a gem and sent us a little note for his fans.

'I have been so fortunate having the opportunity to tour with my father over the past four years, learning more about music and myself. 'A Wish Too Far' was the first song I had ever written alone, and with the support and guidance of my father it became something bigger than I ever could have imagined.

'A Wish Too Far' represents some of the struggles I faced in my late teens with unrequited love and letting go. Where some people may become bitter from heartbreak, my love for the girl in the song only grew and finally I was able to move on. She knows the song is about her, and had the opportunity to listen to the track first. She is still a close friend, even to this day.

I would like to thank my fans for being so supportive and buying this song. I hope it will give you the hope 'the wish' gave me, the hope that true love is always out there, and sometimes it takes a while to find it but when you do it'll be worth every moment.'

Fans of the song have gone wild over the implications of the song's meaning. Who is this girl? Who did she choose over rock and roll's rising star?

Luka will return to Paris later in the month to perform 'A Wish Too Far' at the 'A Gift for Kidz' charity showcase run by his sister in law, Rose Lavillant-Couffaine.

Our journalist, Alya Cesaire, will be present to cover the event.

•••••

Marinette sat down to lace up her trainers. It was seven in the morning and after tossing and turning for over two hours she finally decided it was just easier to get up and go for a run than to try and catch any more sleep. Her mind was buzzing from the previous day and she needed to see Peyton. She needed answers.

Over and over again her mind was replaying the conversation with Adrien. The conversation where she'd found out she was actually honey trapping a single guy. Someone who, technically, could do whatever he damn well pleased. She pulled her laces slightly harder than intended, having to adjust the bottom and free them up a little, helping the circulation continue to her toes.

Her hair was in a high ponytail, a bright green ribbon wrapped around the bobble to match that of her sports bra. Her black leggings also had a green trim running down the outside seam, and she completed the ensemble with a thin, loose racer back vest top. She took hold of the diamond on her necklace and placed it in her sports bra. Even if it broke and dropped, it would land in her cleavage which would be better than losing it. The sports bra was tight under her chest, making do as a breast support and a safety net. If she could get in a couple of miles or more she might feel better about things, plus it would give her time to think.

Standing from the sofa she headed for her AirPods, sitting on her kitchen counter, and placed them in, before slotting her phone into her self contained pocket on the side of her leggings. She always had her running playlist on shuffle, mixing some of her favourite songs with those that pushed her on. The first song vibrated through her Airpods and, of course, it would be 'A Wish Too Far'. She couldn't help rolling her eyes as the harsh voice of Jagged Stone reached her ears, followed by the soothing melody of Luka's.

'You called me by his name,

Over and over again, but I decided to stay,With hope that one day, you would see the truth.See the love I have for you.

Then I saw your face, uncovered and free,

and it was a wish come true, but then his mask dropped too,And right then I knew that he was the one for you.

I loved you indefinitely, my melody, my truth.

But now I know I could never love you the way he do,His love is pure, his love is real, together it's special, a whole frontier. Your wish, your dream, your destiny.Me with you, would be a dream come true, The sweet song from my guitar, but it was just a wish too far.'

It was a lovely song, and she couldn't deny that, but it was the meaning behind it. Marinette still felt bad for their break up, even though it had been ten years ago. It had taken him until recently to push past it, and it had taken her until her night with Adrien to be willing to open her heart to love again and just look where that got her. The other woman for a one night stand, and Dominic's 'fiancèe'.

Calling for Tikki to jump into her padding made cleavage, she opened the door and made her way downstairs, out the building, and onto the Parisian streets. It was a sunny Monday morning in the middle of summer, and the streets were just starting to wake with workers heading into the office and tourists looking for a place to eat. She knew if she headed over to the bakery, her parents would be swarmed with everyone from local regulars to American tourists, each wanting the taste of an authentic Parisian breakfast.

Starting with a gentle walk, Marinette built up her pace listening to the tracks randomly shuffle through her playlist. Once 'A Wish Too Far' had ended, an upbeat, yet cheesy pop anthem came on and she had to control herself or she would start singing it. The air was fresh as she picked up speed, weaving and winding through the pedestrian's on the path, making her way down to the riverside, and along the cycle path. It would be calmer there, more room to run with the hordes of others doing the exact same thing. She smiled in greeting to regulars she passed on a daily basis, every now and then throwing out a quick 'hi', as she followed the path towards her offices. By the time she got there it would be around eight, the boss would usually arrive between eight and half eight, with clients arriving from nine. That should give her enough time to confront Peyton and find out what's really going on.

Marinette began to slow down, making sure she took it easy instead of coming to a complete halt. A buzzing was felt against her thigh and she realised her phone was ringing. Her airpods announced to her 'Alya' was called and she tapped the bud to answer it, continuing her walk towards her offices.

"Oh, great you're up!" Alya sounded preppy considering how much she'd drank the previous day.

"I am, I'm just heading in to see Peyton."

'Oh, are you going to confront her? Make sure you let me know how it goes."

"Well, I'll see you tonight, so I'll let you know then." Marinette turned into her building and walked up to sign in on the computer, entering her details instead of scanning her pass. She hadn't brought her pass with her for two reasons. Firstly, it would strangle her as she ran, and secondly, she didn't exactly want to advertise that she worked for 'Honey Pot' ... it wasn't actively known, but people did know about it. More like rumours than anything else. Women who steal other women's lovers. She wasn't actually that surprised that Vivica thought she was a stripper or an escort.

"I was actually calling to cancel."

Marinette finished touching her information in and was waiting for her picture to be taken before the visitor pass would be printed when she noticed her nails needed some sort of TLC. After last night's successful, yet pointless, hook she'd been agitated and started to pick at the pink gel on her nails. She usually kept them pristine, it seemed guys liked nice nails, but when she was stressed they always became her first victim.

"Cancel? Why what are you doing? Oh - no - hang on! I want to change my question. Who are you doing?"

Alya burst out laughing down the phone line and Marinette couldn't help smiling as she made her way to Peyton's office. "You know me so well."

"Just make sure the other woman is out of the picture, and that he's not just playing around."

"Look at you giving the guy a second chance. Does that mean Adrien may have made an impact on you?"

Had Adrien had an effect? Yes ... would she act on it? Hell no, she wouldn't spiral down that rabbit hole again! She might be slightly insane but she wasn't batshit crazy. "You know it's just work, Al."

"Sure, you keep telling yourself that. Anyway, Nino came over after he and Adrien left the wedding and we talked all night, Marinette. He's just left now."

Marinette was happy for her friend, but something was nagging at the back of her head that Alya had given in too easily, that Nino should be put on something similar to a trial, that they should be taking it slowly. Thanks to Marinette's colourful past though, she felt she had no right to say anything. It's not like she was great at keeping relationships. Her most successful one consisted of the two of them dressing as other people, blowing things up, creating things, and generally causing havoc.

"Just be careful. It's guys like Nino that end up keeping girls like me in a job."

"I promise I'll be careful."

"Listen, I'm at the office so I'll catch up with you tomorrow or something?"

"Sure," Alya replied, "I'll swing by after work."

Marinette tapped her AirPod again, ending the call and then removing them from her ears. Taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door with three taps and waited.

Was she doing the right thing here? She had no idea, but what she did know was that Vivica had lied and that trapping Adrien was actually pointless. If she could get out of this she could forget about him, dryclean and mail his jacket back and then carry on with her life ... Adrien Agreste free. The only time she'd have to see him would be Alya and Nino's wedding. She could cope with that.

"Come in," Peyton shouted from the other side of the door, and Marinette steeled her strength. She was Ladybug, this would be easy. It's not like she was fighting an evil spirit.

Pushing open the door, Marinette peeked her head around first, looking for where her boss might be hiding. She spotted Peyton over by the window, standing beside it with a Starbucks takeout cup in her hands looking over some sort of paperwork, she guessed.

"Oh, Marinette, hi." Peyton moved to her desk and placed the paper down, indicating for Marinette to take the seat opposite.

"Is this a bad time?" The secret hero asked, stepping one foot into the room but not taking the offered seat just yet.

"No, it's fine. I haven't got any client meetings until later this morning. Everything okay?"

Marinette sighed, moving her way from the door and into the chair. She sat back and looked Peyton in the eye. "No. Not really."

"Is this about the Agreste case?"

A wince went through Marinette. Hearing it as a case didn't sit well with her, regardless of that being what it actually was.

But it was a lie.

The whole thing was fabricated and shouldn't be happening.

"How much do you know, Peyton?" Marinette asked, keeping her voice as steady as possible.

"Marinette, don't get too involved. It's a good payout, and you know you'll be getting the money whether he succumbs to your charms or not." She took her cup off the desk and drank from it, looking down and away from Marinette's gaze.

"I know what you're doing, Peyton, and I'm not leaving here until you tell me whether it's true or not?"

Peyton shifted in her chair and Marinette knew she was onto something. "Marinette, it's best not to get involved."

"Why? Because he's a single man and they've been separated for months. I can't do that to him, it's not fair."

"Unfortunately, Marinette, we can't have morals in this job. You know how it works, you've been doing it for long enough. Plus who's to say he hasn't cheated over the course of their marriage. There must be something there for her to even go this far with it."

"I'm in this job to catch liars and cheats, not to try and seduce single men. I can do that down at the local bars, and I can tell you now, as tempted as Adrien may seem he will not cheat." Marinette could feel her voice rising and did everything in her power to keep it down. She was a professional, and she prided herself on it.

"Just think, if you don't do this she'll get someone else too. No matter what happens, Vivica is determined for it to happen, you're getting too involved Marinette."

Placing a hand to her neck, Marinette flopped backwards in her seat. Peyton was right, if Marinette didn't continue Vivica would just contact the next honey. But was she getting too involved with it? She was professional, everything was on a professional basis only. "Plus you've signed the contract now, there's no way of getting out of it." There was that too.

"So what do I do? What is she getting out of it?"

"You know I can't disclose that kind of information, Marinette. What the client tells me is in strictest confidence. I can't just willingly spread their gossip."

Leaning forward, Marinette placed her elbows on her knees and looked out the window. Why would Vivica want to make Adrien cheat? And why six weeks?

"A prenup," Marinette said without too much thought. She looked at Peyton's face and knew she'd hit the jackpot. "There's something in the prenup." The two stared at each other before Peyton exhaled loudly and nodded her head.

"I'm not saying anything else, but Marinette, if you think he's innocent then you're the girl for the job."

Marinette could have laughed long, loud and hard. Girl for the job? If only her boss knew the extent of her past relationship with Adrien Agreste. But, even though things hadn't ended up the way she wanted with Adrien, would she really risk him losing god knows what to a woman like Vivica? She wasn't a bad person, and Adrien wasn't ... no, she couldn't say it, not yet! A heat spread through her body as she thought about her best friend's words. Alya was right, he had affected her. Just being around him for a few hours seemed to play with her heartstrings and she didn't know if they were tightening or releasing. However, that wasn't important at the moment. What was important was stopping someone like Vivica from controlling Adrien's life.

"Fine, but I can't promise to trap him."

"What you do is up to you, just make sure you're meeting Vivca's contract."

Marinette stood up out of the chair and placed her AirPods back in, before grabbing her phone from its hidden Lycra confines.

"If she rings, tell her I saw him last night."

With that she turned around and made her way out the door and back to the reception desk. It was still slightly too early for anyone to be there, so she signed herself out and started back towards the River Seine, disposing of her visitors pass in the nearest bin. Her parents' early morning rush should have passed by now so it would be an ideal time to go grab a couple of pastries.

Thanks to the creation of AirPods, it allowed Marinette the opportunity to talk to Tikki without looking crazy. She could talk freely, knowing passers by would just think she was just on a call.

"I think you need to talk to Adrien, Marinette. What if he's in trouble?" Speeding up into a pacy jog, she made her way back to the riverside path and noticed it had suddenly got a little more crowded as she stepped and swerved around other joggers and pedestrians, she headed towards her parents bakery.

"Why should I care? He shouldn't have married her in the first place."

"You know there's something more to all this, you're just being too stubborn to admit it. It's easier for you to think he chose someone else over you, then think he might have another reason for it. You want to hate him because you know it'll stop making you love him."

Marinette slowed down, eventually stopping. "You heard everything he promised me that night, Tikki. He knew how much I loved him, yet he used me."

"Did you ever stop to think he might have felt the same way about you?"

"If he did, he had a funny way of showing it." A male jogger passing by turned his head as her voice began to raise. She gave him a small smile and wave before turning herself away from the path, and any nosey passers by.

"You never gave him a chance to explain!"

"Because him telling me he didn't want me would have hurt a lot more. I love you, Tikki, I really do, but you have no idea how it feels to have the love of your life in your arms promising to give you the world and then taking it all away like some cruel joke. You know how much it hurt me, how much it changed me, and even with his best reasons, it wasn't the right thing to do."

"How would you know, you never let him explain!"

"I'm not having this conversation now," Marinette turned around, hell bent on ignoring her kwami by taking out her phone and putting Clara Nightingale on high volume.

"HELP!"

Marinette carried on messing with her phone, she needed to put on Clara's 'Miraculous' song, there was nothing better than running to your own theme tune. Sometimes, she pretended she was in a television drama instead of living her real life, it settled her nerves a little and she could pretend she was just a normal girl, with a normal life.

"PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!"

"Marinette!"

She continued running, feeling Tikki moving around a lot in her hiding spot.

"Marinette!"

"MY BABY!"

Suddenly one of her headphones was ripped from her ear, and she came face to face with her kwami. Looking up from her phone she noted the panicked expression in Tikki's face, watching the small kwami indicate something happening to her right.

Marinette turned her head only to see a small child in the river, and a panic stricken mother leaning over the edge, arm stretched out to save her child.

•••••

Adrien needed to get out of his apartment, his head had been spiralling since Kim's wedding and he didn't know what he was doing anymore. He placed on his dark grey basketball shorts and light blue muscle vest before grabbing his phone and sticking in his AirPods, bending down he reached for his latest 'Nike' trainers, lacing them tightly and calling for Plagg to make his way into Adrien's pocket.

Exiting his apartment and attaching his keys to the tie in the inner short pocket, he made his way to the elevator, only to be met with his phone blasting out Jagged Stone's 'The Donut' as he pressed the button to go down. Reaching for his phone, he pulled it from his pocket.

Jess

Tapping the green button, he waited for the call to connect and placed his phone in his pocket.

"Hey Jess, what's up?"

"You're not going to believe what's happened!" Adrien smiled at the people already in the elevator before pressing the 'doors closed' button; pointing to his earphones and using a hand in apology as he answered Jess' question.

"Tell me and I just might." He looked at himself in the mirrored wall of the elevator, it was the first time in a while he was genuinely smiling. It was amazing how one girl could cause him to have such a response.

"Well, you know you told me about the exhibition in the Louvre, I went to see it yesterday and ended up talking to one of the professors there. There was so much new information I thought my brain was going to blow up!"

Adrien let out a laugh, stepping out the elevator and into the foyer of his apartment block. He greeted the doorman with a nod before turning and taking off down towards the Seine. "Anything useful though?"

"Not yet, there's a couple of places I want to check out over the next few days if you're around at all to come with?"

Adrien jogged carefully down the steps and onto the river path, heading his way towards Notre Dame and his old collège. He was hoping he could stop by the Dupain-Cheng bakery, and maybe a small raven haired beauty would be there. Wishful thinking he knew, but there was definitely a pull in that direction.

"When you thinking? I've got to learn three parts of my script by next weekend, but there's no big monologues or anything. I have a read through this afternoon too." He began to weave through the morning crowds, and noticed a few children on the edge feeding ducks. He couldn't help but smile, wanting nothing more than to be there with his own children one day.

"Excellent. Is Saturday afternoon okay? I can come round to yours."

"Yeah sure, though I can't promise I won't make you run scenes with me."

Jess' laughter boomed through the microphone into Adrien's ears and he began to laugh with her. "Yeah ... I can't act."

"Now, now, don't put yourself down."

"Whatever, just ask Aeon -"

A sudden sound overruled whatever had just been said into his ear, the girls voice being replaced with a scream of sheer terror.

"MY BABY!"

"Listen, Jess, I need to go. I'll text you later." The call ended and Adrien swung his head side to side, looking for where the noise had derived from.

Finally, it landed on the side of the river, where a mother was leaning over the edge trying to reach a child that couldn't have been older than six. He was struggling to stay afloat and the mother was getting more and more frantic. Every now and then the child disappeared under the water, only to reappear spluttering and wheezing as he tried to take in some air.

Running towards the mother, he suddenly noticed a blur of black and green dive into the river. He sped up a little, continuing his way to the hysterical mother, only to stop short when the head of the rescuer broke through the surface.

"Dear lord, this girl is literally going to be the death of me." Adrien began to take his shoes and socks off at a frantic speed, placing his phone in one and Plagg in the other. "Stop anyone who tries to steal these."

He kept his eyes firmly on Marinette, noting that she had already reached the child and was currently struggling to pull them back to the side of the river where his mother was getting dangerously close to joining them in the murky water.

The few seconds it took Adrien to get his shoes off, they managed to drift further from the edge and towards the centre of the river, the small child struggling against Marinette to stay afloat. Marinette had him lifted above the water, and he could see she was trying to calm him down, though it didn't seem to be working.

His heart stopped in his throat as he saw the child push Marinette's head below the surface, her grip loosening on him and the child floating off into the centre again. He waited impatiently for Marinette to reappear, only to be disappointed and spurred into action. Running towards the edge of the river, he stepped one foot forward launching himself into an Olympic level dive, and cruising under the surface of the water.

Coming up for air, Adrien shook his wet, blonde locks out of his eyes looking frantically for Marinette and the child. The noise around him dissolved into nothing more than his own erratic heartbeat.

Where was she?

His eyes hit the young boy first and he swam determinedly towards him. The boy's eyes widened and he began to fight again. "Don't touch me!" the boy yelled, only to Adrien to grab hold of his wrists.

"Listen kid, I'm here to save you. I'm not going to hurt you."

"I'm going to die," the young boy said, a sob escaping his lips and breaking Adrien's heart.

"You're not going to die, we're going to save you."

Adrien didn't know about the child, but he calmed instantly at the sound of her voice behind him. She was ok. Thank God she was ok.

"Hook onto my back," Adrien said to the boy, using his arms and legs to tread water. He took the initiative to grab the child's arm and swing it over his shoulders, pushing the boy up and onto his back. "Marinette, get on my front." Adrien turned around coming face-to-face with an extremely damp Marinette.

"A-Adrien?" He watched his old friend's cheeks blush as she swam towards him, and he thanked the kwami's it was too cold within the water to have any lasting effect on his nether regions. There was no way heat was pushing through this ice cold liquid, there was an increasingly large chance they'd both be seriously ill after this.

"Yes - Adrien - now get on." He reached out again, grabbing her arm and pulling her in towards him. Her chest pressed to his side, and his arm wrapped securely around her waist in the most natural of reactions. It felt intimate; which was strange due to the low degree waters and the random child on his back.

Keeping one arm firmly around Marinette, and coaching the boy to hold on strongly around his neck, he used the other to brush past the water and bring them back to the side wall. The mother shouting words of encouragement and gratefulness with each inch they came closer. "You okay kid?" Adrien shouted - they were mere inches away from safety now - he could see a build up of pedestrians, plus the emergency services all waiting for them on the cycle path.

"I'm scared," the boy sobbed, his arms clutching tight around Adrien's neck.

"Hey there, I need to breathe so please relax a little so you've not got me in a death grip. We've got you. Neither of us will let you go." He could feel Marinette nod and dither as they creeped a little more forward. She was obviously struggling with the temperatures, and to be honest, if his adrenaline wasn't so high he was sure he would be too.

"Let's swap," her small voice said, "if I take him you can manoeuvre yourself ready to lift him out of the water." Her voice was weak and raspy, but it sounded like a good idea. There was no way Marinette was pushing the young boy the distance between the water and the path. They were almost there, meaning Marinette would need to take him just a little further to reach solid ground.

After a bit of fumbling, Marinette began to tread water as Adrien placed the boy on her back. Adrien held an arm out for Marinette to cling on to, spreading the weight and pressure between the two of them.

"Hey, little dude, I can see your Maman, we're almost there. Just keep a hold of Marinette." The boy nodded and the three of them grew closer and closer to the edge, and safety. Marinette's grip on Adrien's arm began to loosen and worry overtook him as they made it closer inch by inch.

"Adrien, help him up." Marinette turned so her back was closer to him, allowing Adrien to grasp the boy's waist and heave him up towards his mother on the side. The young parent grabbed her son, pulling his wet body into hers and cradling the young boy's head.

The emergency services zoned in on the family and covered the boy in a mylar blanket, whilst others crowded towards Adrien, coaxing him out the water and onto dry land.

"Mr. Agreste, we need to get you out!" One burly older man stretched forward ready to grab Adrien by the arms and heave him out, but he wasn't going yet. Not whilst Marinette was still in the water.

"Get Marinette out first," he shouted, turning around to grab her only to come up short.

"Marinette?" He cried, looking around. His muscles were burning from the constant need to stay afloat but now his heart took over the most pain. Where was she? "Marinette?" He tried again, this time fear lacing his voice. "Marinette?"

He knew the professionals were shouting at him to leave them to it, that they'd find her but at the moment nothing else mattered more than having her in his arms. He would not leave her. He couldn't leave her.

Taking a deep breath, Adrien plummeted himself into the depths of the Seine, fighting the sting in his eyes from the less than sanitary water. He looked around, twisting and turning before having to come to the surface for more air. He breathed quickly before slowing down and filling his lungs with as much oxygen as he could inhale. The burning in them was the least of his worries, at least whilst she was under the surface somewhere.

Descending into the murky, green water he swam around again, this time his eyes setting on the vibrant green bow Marinette had been wearing in her hair.

His colour.

Pushing through the desire to breathe, Adrien moved, stretching out for Marinette. As he grabbed her arm her head turned and he could see she was on the verge of releasing whatever air she had left into the water. He needed to get her out now. Scooping her into his body, he placed two hands on her face, holding her cheeks still as she began to fight the urge to breath. Her body was thrusting with the control she was losing, and he tightened his hold to keep her still, placing his lips against hers and using his own to open hers wide. Her eyes closed as did his own and he breathed. He filled her mouth with as much air as he could share, allowing her body to settle thanks to the extra oxygen supply.

Keeping their lips suctioned together, Adrien slipped one arm around her waist and used the other to swim through the water taking them upwards and towards freedom. They were almost out of this watery hell. He could do this, he was Chat freaking Noir. He pushed and pushed and pushed, finally breaking the surface and removing his lips from hers.

Marinette began to gasp, coughing violently, as Adrien pulled her towards the wall. His lungs hurt like hell, and he was quite sure he had a migraine coming on, but as he watched her being yanked from the water he didn't give a shit. She was alive and she was here. He felt himself being hoisted out the water, zero recollection of how he got there and crawled straight over to where Marinette was being wrapped up and checked. She was still wracking her lungs as she coughed, but he didn't care, coughing meant breathing.

"I thought I'd lost you," he wrapped himself around her with one arm and cradled her head with his opposite. "Don't ever do that to me again." He was crying, the dampness adding to his already wet skin. He couldn't let her see it, so instead he buried his head into her hair. "Don't do things like that."

"Adrien, I'm okay. I promise. You need to let me go, I need to breath"

Adrien continued rocking, Marinette still in his arms. He'd saved her, and he'd never felt better for it. He'd just been given a chance to rectify his mistakes, the last thing he wanted was for it to be taken away. Suddenly realising what she'd said he let go of her quickly, and moved backwards.

"Sorry," Adrien looked over towards his shoes, crawling to the bench where he'd discarded them before returning next to Marinette. She was looking around for something and he took the time to study her. She was wearing his colours, and it just made the save even sweeter. He didn't need to be a superhero to save her, and it gave him an unexpected thrill. How bizarre!

"No!" Marinette suddenly exclaimed, as if from nowhere. Adrien looked at her curiously; she was getting more and more frantic, and he was surprised to hear the extremely colourful language leaving his delicate friend; she cursed more than a sailor at sea.

"What's wrong?" Adrien asked, clambering onto his knees to check her over. Wow, the water that had made her top stick to her was definitely dragging his attention from their conversation. He cursed himself, this is not what he did. It was disrespectful and damn right creepy. Plus, now really was not the time to be checking her out.

"My phone was in my leggings when I dived in! Shit!"

"I take it you didn't have a waterproof case?"

Marinette swung her head towards him, the damn hair sticking to her face as she whipped her head far too quickly. "Do I look like someone who regularly swims in rivers? It must have fallen out when I dived in." A quick gasp left her lips as her hands shot to her ears. Adrien couldn't tell if she was checking for her earrings or for something else? "My AirPods too!"

Finally, a hand shot to her throat, her face morphing into sheer fear, before she shoved one hand down her sports bra and let out an audible gasp. He studied her with amusement, unsure whether to ask about it or not?

"It's ok, I'm sure your insurance will cover it?" He decided to keep the conversation away from her hand in her bra, only to set her off laughing instead. Marinette was clutching her stomach as she laughed uncontrollably, what was so funny about that?

"Yeah, okay?"

He wasn't quite sure what she meant by that, instead deciding to concentrate on putting his shoes on. That was if he could stop staring at the way her tee had literally moulded to her body. Not a curve was hidden, and he marvelled at how she'd changed and developed in three years.

"Would it be the wrong time to say, I've saved you three times now? All in one week too." He looked up at her and dropped her a sly wink, delighted by the way her face reacted.

"These are the heroes." A voice sounded from their right and both turned to face its owner. The mother stood there with her son in her arms, the boy almost bigger than his parent, who was currently clinging onto her like a koala bear.

"We just did what anyone would have done." Adrien responded, looking to Marinette for confirmation. She nodded her head as she stood up, blanket still wrapped around her, and walked towards the mother and son. He watched her call the young boy, her voice soft and mesmerising.

"You were such a fantastic team, just thank you both so much! I will never be able to repay you."

"It's fine, plus it was Adrien that did most of the hard work. He saved our lives" Marinette said to the mother, causing the mother to look up and give Adrien a second glance.

"Oh my, I didn't realise. Oh wow, thank you Adrien ... Agreste. I'm ... wow! Adrien Agreste"

Marinette giggled and Adrien felt a blush on his cheeks, he didn't know whether it was because the woman had finally placed him, or because of Marinette's words and small giggle. Seriously, he needed to get a hold of himself, he hadn't acted this way since he was an adolescent
