Reception Fun

Two Days Later

While the wedding itself had been a small, intimate affair with only the closest of family and friends, the reception for Mister and Missus Holmes was considerably larger. The venue was quickly filling up with everyone who had RSVP'd and been put on the very strict guest list. Greg made sure that no one was getting in who wasn't on that list, and Mycroft had stationed agents around the venue to assure a safe and fun evening for everyone.

The guests themselves were milling around enjoying the picturesque backdrop and socializing while they waited for the bride and groom. As the reception was taking place on Bournemouth Beach, on the sand under open air canopies, with a cool sea breeze and the sound of waves breaking, it truly was captivating. Everyone was wearing beach themed colors and it was at best semi-formal, given the location. The entire atmosphere was relaxed, fun, and upbeat even before the newlyweds arrived.

Sherlock and Adelaide arrived on the afternoon train and had spent a few hours on another beach before racing to Bournemouth to get ready. Adelaide donned her wedding dress and her beaded sandals, having Tara help with her hair and makeup. Sherlock, meanwhile, wore the same gray suit and shoes but with a teal dress shirt and no tie. She pinned on his boutonniere and he fastened her locket. And since her bouquet was functioning as their table centerpiece, she tied a thin, sparkly tiffany blue belt around her waist to keep with the color scheme. After a last look they headed down to the venue, ready to party the night away.

Once everyone else was seated, then Finley, as the Emcee, called everyone's attention, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please join me in celebrating Mister Sherlock and Missus Adelaide Holmes!" From behind the tent's white cloth "doors", a bright spotlight illuminated the silhouette of the couple in a romantic pose before they made their entrance into the tent. They entered hand in hand to the tune of What I Like About You by The Romantics and were met by a maelstrom of bubbles, which had been handed out to the guests on their arrival.

Cheers and laughter filled the venue when Sherlock suddenly swept Adelaide into his arms, spinning her around as they took to the packed sand dance floor. Then he set her down and Finley announced their first dance. The DJ popped in the recording of their wedding waltz and the two got into position.

As the waltz began, they started slowly- swaying from side to side before transitioning into their well practiced dance. Eyes only on each other, and big smiles on their faces. Because of the song's tempo, the dance was as dramatic as it was upbeat and the choreography reflected it at all of the right moments. Sherlock relished the chance to show Adelaide off as his new bride, but also enjoyed displaying their fancy footwork. Especially to John and Mary, who knew Sherlock meant to best their own first dance and found it rather amusing.

After their first dance, Adelaide danced with her grandfather and Sherlock with his Mum. Then the buffet meal began, as well as the party fun. The dance floor was quickly packed as well as the food tables, and the newlyweds were bombarded with wellwishes and questions. They had a few other things set up as well- a few games and such; a photo scavenger hunt and questionnaire about the bride and groom for the attendees among them. Everyone was engaged in some way and even Mycroft was sociable.

Once they'd had gotten through with their dinner, Adelaide and Tara looked at each other and gave a discreet signal to Finley and the DJ. Just as the current song ended they excused themselves. Sherlock and basically everyone else thought nothing of it, but among the others in the wedding party, there were several sly smiles exchanged. Finley then grabbed the Mic and asked for everyone to clear the dance floor and just as he did, Michael Jackson's The Way You Make Me Feel  started to play. Tara and Adelaide took center stage and started dancing, the latter winking at Sherlock, who realized what was going on. A Flash Mob.

Tara and Adelaide danced wonderfully, soon joined by Mary, Molly, Ryan, and a number of other close friends and family of Adelaide's. Fifteen women in total were on the dance floor breaking it down before the song changed again to Party Rock Anthem. Finley, John, Greg, and even Mycroft joined them at that point. Sherlock was stunned at the surprise group dance that had somehow been put together without him finding out, and he was amazed at how well the group was pulling it off. The consulting detective sat back in his chair and watched with a grin before Adelaide pulled him up to dance the last song with her. The others cleared off, allowing the newlyweds to finish the flash mob by showing off their moves.

A little later once most everyone had settled, it was time for Sherlock and Adelaide to cut the cake. It was a tiered, powder blue cake with blue accents and a wrap around blue sugar garland, topped with a fondant clamshell with two tiffany blue "pearls". It had been designed by the couple and made by Iona. The cake flavour itself was layered Chocolate-mint and Ginger-Lime, a surprising but deliciously balanced combo. The newlyweds didn't care to make a mess with the cake so instead the each took one of the pearls and fed them to each other. Adelaide made him catch his while he just popped hers into her mouth.

As the night came to a close, instead of tossing the bouquet or doing a garter toss, the two opted to play the wedding shoe game. They sat back to back and removed their shoes so that each had one of their own and one of the others to hold up. John took the Mic and asked the questions. They ranged from "Who is more likely to be late?", which was unanimously Sherlock, to "Who is always right?", which was unanimously Adelaide by a fast vote. They disagreed on a few, like "Who's more stubborn?". But the last question was the best.

"And to finish the game off... Who do you love more than anyone else in the world right now?"

Adelaide held up Sherlock's shoe and he held up her sandal. Everyone cheered and the newlyweds shared a kiss before returning their shoes. They spent the rest of the reception dancing close together or chatting with their guests before handing out their groomscake alternative - paired Mr and Mrs cake pops- and catching their ride to the Cavanagh's home for the night.

"That was an amazing night, Love," He whispered once they'd gotten into bed and locked the door. She hummed in agreement and snuggled closer, close to dozing off. Sherlock smiled and tucked his arms around her and kissed her cheek, "I Love You, Angel."

"I Love You more, Darling."

Longer than I'd planned but I hope you enjoyed it! Love y'all!! 😘😘
