Bungalow Bliss
Three Days Later
Adelaide was in the kitchen making lunch when she started to hear music floating in. Not just any music- the rich notes of a violin. The zoologist smiled to herself and swayed a bit, relishing the song. How sweet, playing our wedding waltz. I'm so glad that Sherlock's out of the hospital and that he's feeling well enough to play again.
The consulting detective had been discharged the night before and the newlyweds were speedy in their flight back to the bungalow. They would stay there for a couple of days to make sure Sherlock was okay, then rejoin the others in Dorset to celebrate their reception. Greg, Mycroft, and John had left the previous afternoon by train and would get everything sorted for the couple. After that it was back to London and for Adelaide, to her new life on Baker Street. Fortunately the brunette was recovering incredibly well since he was actually heeding medical instruction, so it appeared they would not have to postpone their party again.
Adelaide finished with the sandwiches, plating them up and setting them neatly on a silver tray. She hummed along to the wedding waltz as she got a small pitcher of ice water and napkins. Sherlock had declined any tea and she certainly sympathized. He was still experiencing nausea from his medications but had finally gotten enough appetite for sandwiches and Adelaide was relieved. He had dropped so much weight in such a short time it hurt her tremendously- especially since she had worked so hard with him on his diet. No. Don't think of that now. Just focus on getting something nutritious and small into his system. She chided herself, lifting the tray and carrying it upstairs.
As she neared the master bedroom, the wedding waltz finished and was succeeded by an unfamiliar tune. It seemed to be another waltz, yet sounded atypically bright and cheery. Adelaide paused outside of the bedroom doors to listen to the melody without disturbing Sherlock. It was beautiful, like all of his compositions. She ended up staying rooted to the spot for a minute and then she quietly pushed open the doors.
Sherlock was standing next to the window playing, gazing out onto the garden. He heard Adelaide walk in and the light smile he already wore grew into a fuller one. Without ceasing the music he carefully turned about to greet her. Adelaide had set the lunch tray down on the nightstand and was perched on the edge of the bed. Her smile and the glimmer in her eyes assured him and he continued the song until its finish. When it was over he lowered the stringed instrument and leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to her lips. She giggled as he backed up and then asked, "That was beautiful, Sherlock! What song was it? I couldn't recognize it."
"It's the song I wrote for you," He replied with a light blush, "I've been working on it for a while, actually. It's still not finished but given your response to it, I deduce that it is close to perfection."
"Sherlock, I loved it. Did you seriously write it for me?" He nodded shyly and she smiled, standing up and hugging him, "It's lovely, Darling. Thank you."
"No need for that, but I suppose you're welcome, Lovey." He set his violin down and hugged her back. They embraced for a minute, and then she tilted her head up to look at him.
"It was wonderful to hear you playing and see you smiling like that, Sweetie," He pecked a kiss on the tip of her nose in response. She giggled again and then sighed, "I brought lunch up. You need to eat something so you can take your meds and continue getting better."
"Of course."
He released her and Adelaide retrieved his prescribed pills while he sat back down on the bed, pecking at one of the sandwiches. When she returned she poured him a cup of water and placed the pills in his hand. Once he'd taken them then they tucked into the rest of their lunch, which didn't last very long. Sherlock followed her down to the kitchen this time to help clean up afterwards.
On their way back upstairs he got behind her and swept her up into his arms just as they got back to the bedroom. She squealed from surprise and he chuckled, carrying her in and over to the bed where he dropped her playfully onto the mattress. Adelaide got the hint and smiled as he joined her, pushing her back down against the pillows and planting a deep kiss on her lips.
Pulling back only a bit, Sherlock hummed against her skin, "Shall we make up for lost time, Angel?" He twisted his arms around her as Adelaide traced over his back.
Adelaide nodded and kissed his jaw, "Yes. It's still our honeymoon, after all." Without another moment of hesitation they resumed their revelry. While it wasn't as intense because of Sherlock's still healing bruises and lacerations, including his still tender head, it was no less exciting. And without snooping nurses or concerned friends and family, they finally unbridled their passions- savoring their shared bliss.
Sorry for the long wait!! The reception will be the next chapter so stay tuned, lovelies!! Love y'all!! 😘😚
