Chapter 23: Albus

"HELP!" Someone screamed, "ALBUS! PLEASE HELP! HELP! ALBUS! JAMES! ANYONE!"

"ALBUS! HELP!" A new voice called.

"LILY! JAMES!" I shouted, "I'M COMING!"

They appeared before me, looking perfectly okay.

I sighed in relief, "Thank goodness-"

"Avada Kedavra!"

"Avada Kedavra!"

Jets of green light cane out of nowhere, hitting James and Lily squarely in the backs. They crumpled to the ground.

I screamed, "NOOO! DON'T DIE! JAMES, LILY! I NEED YOU!"

"Albus-"

"Stop-"

"Albus!

"NOOO-"

I bolted upright, panting, and flailed my arms like a maniac.

"OW! Albus! What's wrong with you?"

I rubbed my eyes, "Wha-"

James was rubbing his forehead where I hit him in annoyance, "What's up with you? You looked like you were-" His annoyance turned to concern when he looked at me. "Are you okay? You're crying."

I brushed them away, "I'm fine. Just... A nightmare."

James looked like he didn't believe me but didn't say much more on it, "It's your turn to watch with Molly."

"What time is it?"

He checked his watch. "A little later than midnight."

He secured himself next to Hermione and fell asleep.

"So," Molly said in attempt to make coversation, "What did you bring? Lily brought that book, James brought his watch. What about you?"

I pulled a golden coin out of my pocket.

Molly looked at it in confusion, "A Galleon? Why?"

"It's not just any Galleon, it's my dad's from the DA."

"Oh, I've heard of that. My dad wasn't around," she simply said.

"Do you know why Scorpius saved you?" I decided to change the subject.

She shook her head, "No idea."

I nudged her elbow, "Maybe he likes you."

Molly laughed, "That's hilarious! He's three years younger than me and there's no way his family would allow it! You know, his dad called my dad 'Peter Weasley' once! Oh, he was infuriated!"

"In all seriousness, though. Why do you think he saved you?" I asked.

"I don't know," she shrugged, "Maybe he's just different. His dad's side were all in Slytherin and his mum was Ravenclaw. And he's Hufflepuff."

"Maybe it's the Games," I said, "The Games change people."

She nodded in agreement.

The first rays of sun were rising. The others were still fast asleep.

"Should we wake them?" Molly asked.

"Let them sleep a little but more," I said, "We'll work on breakfast."

Breakfast in the Hogwarts Games was nothing like breakfast in the Great Hall. For one, there was no grand breakfast buffet laid out on huge long tables. And there was no leisure of picking whatever we wanted to eat to our heart's desire. We had to ration the food, so the only thing we got to eat was one hunk of bread and cheese each.

"James," I shook his shoulder, "Wake up."

He swatted at me and muttered sleepily, "A few more minutes."

I tried Hermione and got another sleepy response, "Later, Mum. I'll go look after the Plimpies later."

I shook all of them until they woke.

"You woke me for bread and cheese?" Hugo said, with annoyance.

"It's breakfast," Molly told him.

We set off when we had finished with breakfast.

"What's the objective today?" I asked James.

He replied, "We're scouting today. It's not safe to stay in the trees."

We walked ahead for about thirty minutes until we heard a cannon. Ten minutes later, we heard something. All of us took coverage behind bushes and trees and listened.

"I've been looking for you," a vicious voice said.

"Oh, really?" A second voice said, sounding slightly nervous, "What for?"

"You know what. But I guess it won't hurt to teach you a bit more," the first voice answered, "Well technically, it won't hurt me."

There was a loud clang of metal on metal and incantations were shouted.

"Sectumsempra," the first voice shouted. I heard a gasp of pain and a thump.

"Remember this next time," he snarled, "Crucio." The sound of leaves crunching told me that he had gone.

What do we do? I mouthed at James.

He pointed to the source of the noises. We cautiously pulled out our weapons and crept closer.

Scorpius Malfoy lay upon the ground, breathing heavily. He lifted his head slightly when he heard us and laid it back down in defeat, "Go on then, Potters, Weasleys, Longbottoms. Who here has the honor of finishing me off?"

I exchanged glances with the others.

"We've got to help him," Lily finally said.

Scorpius looked at her in confusion.

"We don't have to do anything," James said firmly, "He's going to die anyway."

Scorpius scowled, "Fine, then. Just leave me hear to rot or kill me. I get it, you were raised to hate the Malfoys. Whatever, I don't care anymore, I hate this."

James softened, "It's not like that."

"He saved my life," Molly reminded us.

Scorpius looked at her, "Oh, yeah, I remember."

"Why?"

"I don't know," Scorpius shrugged, "I guess I was really in the 'saving lives' mood. Now, can I at least get some help?"

I pulled him to his feet and he winced. His legs wobbled and but he insisted that he was fine.

Hermione placed a hand on James' shoulder, "We should help him. He's done nothing wrong." Her face hardened, "After all, he's just like us. A pawn.

"Pawns, huh?" Scorpius muttered, "Nice way to put it." Then his knees gave out from under him and he collapsed, unconscious.

James conjured a stretcher for Scorpius and enchanted it to float alongside him.

"Let's look for a place to stay. He needs something to tend to his wounds."

A cannon sounded at the same time of a monstrous roar.

"What was that?" Ginny whispered.

"I don't think I want to find out," Hugo said.

We found a cave, big enough for us all. We laid Scorpius down.

"We don't have potions or anything!" Lily exclaimed after examining him, "The only hope we have are sponsors or herbs. There's no guarantee that we'll get sponsors, at least not quick enough. So the only solution is to find this plant," she pointed to a picture of a small plant in her book, "And since I excelled in healing, I can get it for us."

"Hold up," James said, "You're not going alone."

"I'll go with her," Hermione suggested, "I excelled in healing as well."

"I'll come with," I insisted.

"No." James replied, "We need more to fortify the protective enchantments I'm putting on this cave. And two is harder to track than three."

I wanted to argue, but he did have a point.

Lily and Hermione each grabbed a wand, a backpack, a dagger, and they brought the bow. Resisting the urge to run after them as they headed out, I turned my attention to James. He waved his wand over the entrance of the cave, muttering incantations under his breath. Ginny and Hugo were huddled together and whispering.

There was nothing to do but wait.
