The third part for the Imagine Thranduil's maid imagine was requested by Timelady2013 .
You opened the door only a few inches to watch the elven king leave. Finally, you thought he would never go. You weren't sure why he had decided to visit you now but it was bad timing. After fourty years you had almost completely forgotten about the elven king and what he had done to you. The town's people had be nice enough to help a she-elf that was expecting her first child. They hadn't asked many questions, in the beginning. Soon that all changed. Because where would she have come from? Why did the baby have white hair when she was born?
None of them had seen the King of Mirkwood before and many believed most elves had white hair. For what reason you didn't know. You had been able to built a great life for yourself, a nice little house with nature close by. It felt like you had found your home. And then he came to spoil it all. He didn't even look guilty when he demanded to see his child. He didn't even apologize... he couldn't even look you straight in the eyes and say he was sorry. You huffed as you packed the last of your belongings. Hopefully, your daughter would be home soon so that you could leave as quicky as possible.
You had known Thranduil for a long time now and you knew he didn't back down when he wanted something. True, it had taken him fourty years to come looking for you. But he had come looking for you. He could have send his guards or any random elf to go in his place. Yet, he had come himself and had taken his son with him. Legolas... Tears were welling up in your eyes. Oh how you wished you could have stayed in the Mirkwood Realm to look after him and see him growing up. He had already had to live with the fact that his mother had died young and then for him to see his favourite maid leave... You didn't even get the chance to say goodbye.
You placed the two bags filled with clothes and personal belongings on top of the table. Soon, you would all leave this behind in search of a new home. Nobody could know where you were. It wasn't safe to stay in a town of men. They would tell anybody where you were if they paid them well. No, you had to escape into the woods. Nobody would be there to tell the king where you were, nobody would be spying on you and nobody would bother you. If only Faith would come with you. Your daughter had always stuck by your side.
The door creaked as it opened. You spun around on your heels. When you saw your daughter walking in you finally managed to relax. You ran towards her and wrapped your arms around her. A single tear escaped the corner of your eye. 'Mom? That was him, wasn't it?' her soft voice asked you. She pulled back from your hug to be able to look you in the eye. 'That was your father and your half brother' you said. Would she go after them? Would she leave you behind to live with her father?
'Did they hurt you?' Faith asked. She noticed you had been crying because your eyes were red. She would go after her father to kill him if he had hurt you in any other way. You shook your head, no, they had not hurt you. Faith noticed the bags on the table and realisation hit her. 'Are we leaving?' Your mouth was trembling as you saw the change in your daughters face. It turned serious and you knew that she would follow you wherever you would go. 'Where are we going?' she asked quietly. Faith walked towards the bags and transfered the stuff from her basket into her own bag. 'We are going to built a new life inside of the woods.' Faith nodded. 'He won't come looking for us there' she said.
She swung both bags over her shoulder and looked you straight in the eyes. 'We shouldn't waste any time, let's go.'

Together you traveled through many woods, trying to get as far away from the Mirkwood Realm as you could. Faith kept you going at times you wanted to turn around and just wait and see. You didn't fully understand why your daughter was so angry at the elf she had never met. You hadn't told her about what happened between you and her father but somehow she had developed a lot of hate for him. What you didn't know was that Faith had found out. She had worked in a tavern back in the town of men. There she had once met an elf who had also been a maid of Thranduil's. She had been drunk and told her everything she knew about the king.
It didn't take Faith much time to figure out the dots and connect them. How could her father leave her mother like that? Now they even had to leave town because of him. Why couldn't he just leave you alone? Never had he shown interest in her mother and now he just showed up on her doorstep.
It was raining heavily today. The wind was howling and would have dragged you backwards if you didn't keep moving. 'Come on mom' Faith screamed, trying to encourage you to keep going. You could barely understand what she said but kept going anyway. The wind was so hard that several trees had already been pulled out of the ground with roots and all. It would be crucial to find a hiding place right now. Standing still wouldn't help in this situation. It would only be more dangerous.
You tried to place your feet on solid ground instead of the slippery leaves beneath your feet. It proved difficult. The road disappeared and you were forced to walk on the leaves. You were extremely tired. The road had been long and hard. Honestly, you weren't an elfling anymore. The move was hard on you. That's why you slipped as the leaves proved to be too slippery for you. Faith didn't notice you had fallen immediately. You had been walking behind her and she only looked back from time to time. When she did notice you were no longer following her, she already noticed something else.
She turned her head to look at you but she didn't see your face. She saw you laying on the ground far away from her. In slow motion, she also saw another tree being blown over by the wind. It was an old, great oak tree. It was a giant tree. And it was going to land on top of you. Faith screamed your name several times and ran towards you with the wind in her back pushing her forward. You didn't have the strength to look up. Though you could hear the worry in your daughter's voice. Something was going to go wrong but you couldn't bring yourself to get up.
Faith could only watch in horror as the tree fell on top of you and squashed you. She kept running towards you. 'Maybe she is alive, it was only a tree. Maybe there are only some twigs and leaves in her hair. I can get her out of there. I can safe her.' She dropped down on her knees as she pushed away the branch that was in her way. 'MOM!' she yelled. No reply. She moved forward, trying to find you in the fallen tree. She finally spotted your hand when she came to the base of the tree. Scared, she reached out her hand. Her hand hold still in mid-air. Faith hesitated. Her hand softly landed around your wrist.
She closed her eyes and allowed a few tears to fall down. She got up and straightened her back. 'Goheno nin. Gi melin.' (Sorry, I love you.) There was nothing she could do now. She wouldn't be able to save you anymore. Nor was she able to get the tree off of you and give you a proper burial. She would have to continue onwards and make a home for herself. Never would she turn to her father. In your memory, she would make a life without him.
