'Daddy! Can you help me with my puzzle?' Galolyn asked excitedly.

Thorin had just walked in from a meeting. It had been a long day and he couldn't wait to see his family.

His youngest daughter was sitting at the table, an unsolved puzzle in front of her.

He came closer. He leaned in to press their foreheads together. 'How is my princess doing?' he asked.

It made Galolyn giggle. She felt special when her father called her that.

'I love you daddy' she said as she stood up on her chair to hug him.

Thorin pulled his little girl up to cuddle her close to his chest. 'I missed you little one. Did you have a good day?'

Galolyn nodded frantically. 'Fee and Kee were helping me with the puzzle, but they had to leave. Mommy and Gwen are in the other room' Galolyn said, pointing at Gwendolyn's bedroom.

Together they sat down. Galolyn sat on her father's lap. She reached forward to look for more pieces to fit in the right place.

Thorin took his crown off and set it down on the table. He wanted to be a normal father when he was around his children. He was a king outside his hall, that's not who he wanted to be to his little ones.

'What is the picture in the puzzle?' Thorin asked confused. He honestly couldn't see it.

Bofur and Bifur had made many toys for the royal children. But with all the love in the world, Thorin couldn't see what the picture in this puzzle was meant to be.

Galolyn looked up at him with a frown. 'That is a horse daddy! Can't you see that?'

Thorin took another look. He started to smile. 'Galolyn?'

'Aye daddy?' she asked with a gleam in her eyes.

'Since when does a horse have his ears on his behind and his legs on his head?'

Galolyn giggled.

Thorin shook his head with a smile. He leaned forward to remove the wrongly placed pieces of the puzzle.

They sat there together for two hours. Neither of them could figure out the puzzle. They tried every piece in every single way but nothing would fit.

The door to Gwendolyn's room opened and you and Gwendolyn came out.

'Daddy!' Gwendolyn yelled as she spotted her father. She ran to him to hug him.

Thorin extended an arm so he could raise her up. 'How is my precious little girl doing?' he asked. He didn't take his eyes off the puzzle in front of him.

It really should be child's play but he couldn't figure it out.

'Mommy and I are making a book! It is about a little piggy!' Gwendolyn explained.

You wrapped your arms around Thorin's neck. 'What are you doing love?'

The puzzle was not even close to being finished.

'Hmmm' Thorin answered.

You chuckled. 'Come on, dinner is ready. I am hungry' you said.

Gwendolyn and Galolyn got excited when you mentioned food.

'Can I eat a whole steak by myself mommy?' Galolyn asked as you pulled her up from Thorin's lap.

You raised an eyebrow in surprise. 'A whole steak? Galolyn, I don't think you are quite old enough to eat all of that by yourself.'

'Maybe we can share one' Gwendolyn offered.

Galolyn huffed. 'I am a strong little dwarf. I can eat all that by myself' she said with a stubborn voice.

It was your own fault for marrying a dwarf.

When you were close to the door, Gwendolyn softly pulled on your dress. You saw she was pointing at the table when you looked down.

Your husband was still sitting there, bend over the puzzle with a frown on his face.

'Love, are you coming?'

He didn't look up. 'I want to finish this first.'

You rolled your eyes. How were you going to survive three stubborn dwarves in your life?

Galolyn tried to eat a whole steak after this but she didn't succeed until she was 30.

Thorin spend the rest of the week trying to piece the puzzle together. So, at the end he had no other choice to destroy it and throw the pieces away. As an unfinished puzzle.
