The restoration of Erebor was getting along quite nicely. You were helping to the best of your abilities. That is, when Thorin would let you of their room. And that only happened when you managed to sneak past the guards, avoid any members of the company who would also send you back, avoid Thorin though he was everywhere at the same time and if you managed to walk far without getting tired. You were so thankful for all the things that the company had done for you that you felt like you needed to do something in return.
Everytime Thorin managed to track you down and lovingly guided you back to the Royal Wing. He did understand why you didn't want to stay in the room all day by yourself. But it was so much safer for you there... What would he do if anything happened to his One and unborn child? He had almost lost you in the Medina Woods for starters. Thankfully he had been stubborn enough to lead his company to that cursed forest. If only that Gandalf wouldn't have been there... But he had been on time. Nothing to worry. Until the wizard had done it again.
He had stolen you from him, letting him believe that you were safe in your own world. Thorin wasn't stupid. He had known that you were still in Middle-Earth. The wizard had underestimated the dwarven King. That's why he decided to send one of the royal raven towards you when he had re-claimed Erebor. To see that the raven didn't have to travel far had only empowered him. No one would be able to deceive him. You had come back to him right before... The Battle of the Five Armies. Where he had believed you had given your life for his.
Gandalf had explained everything afterwards. Talking about it like there was nothing he hadn't planned. But losing you was all too real to Thorin. The fear in his heart when he thought he had lost you forever. The tears in your eyes as he held you while they buried Marriet. It's like the wizard only thought about his own needs instead of thinking about the lives of others. It may have all been important to the future of Middle-Earth but it wasn't worth losing you.
He had gone absolutely ballistic when he found out that you were not only pregnant but that the wizard had known about it before he send you on your quest... Dain, Dwalin, Fili, Kili, Bofur and Dori had tried to hold him back. The wizard was just smiling at him like he didn't know what the dwarven King was angry about. He should have cut his head off when he had the chance. Gandalf would come to Erebor two weeks from now to see if he could help. Thorin was already thinking about possibilities to poison him. Maybe something in his drink would work...
Life was going in the right way. Thorin smiled more often then not now that he had his love by his side. Maybe not physical but he knew that you would be waiting for him at the end of the day. Maybe not in your own room like he wanted to, still, you were waiting. He made it is job to shower you in presents. You would never have to ask for anything. He would provide you with everything you needed. The room for your child was already built, waiting for it's little inhabitant to come and lay down in it's crib. Even though both of you knew that the small child would be sleeping in your own room, next to your bed for at least the first year.
Thorin didn't want to risk anything if it was about the lives of his loved ones. He couldn't wait to hold the little bundle of joy in his arms. Secretly, he was already thinking about baby names. You would have given him that look again if you found out. It was the same look you send him when you woke up to him softly speaking to your stomache. He always massaged your back if it ached and did the same for your feet. He instructed the cook to give you any food you required. And he held you tight, but not too tight, when you were sleeping. His hand was always draped over your stomache so he could feel the movement within. It was perfect.
Except for the part where you had increasingly more nightmares since the battle. You had come from another world. You weren't used to war, used to fighting nor were you used to orc's trying to kill you. It had made a great impact on you. And it proved by all the horrifying images that passed your mind in your sleep. There was always so much blood... Somehow the image of Thorin laying on the ice with a cut just above his right eye and blood dripping from his chest was something that kept coming back to you. You couldn't explain it nor did you talk about it to Thorin. He would only be worried while he already had so much else to be worried about.
It's not like you felt you couldn't share it with him. You were sure he would be there for you. It was just not the right time to tell him. Of course this was not entirely in your control. You felt asleep in his arms like usual. He kissed you on the top of your head, laying his own down just above yours. His hand casually draped itself on top of your stomache again. Your eyes were getting heavy and soon you felt asleep. It was so warm and it felt so safe when you laid close to him. You never thought anyone could ever love you as much as he loved you. Before you fell into a deep slumber, you could feel his warm breath on the back of your head. You could die a happy woman now.
Your dreams enveloped you and first everything was fine. Somewhere in the back you registered Thorin caressing your stomache as he tried to follow you in your sleep. The dream was amazing; together you sat in a field of grass, creating a daisy crown for him to crown him King. He was smiling lovingly at you. You were holding hands and Thorin placed gentle kisses from your hand all the way up to your shoulder. The setting changed rather rapidly. You were now sitting on the rocks just outside Erebor. Azog was coming into view through the mist. Suddenly he was standing right behind Thorin. He had a dagger in his hand. His scarred hand held Thorin's hair so his head was pulled back.
You yelled for him to stop, for Thorin to do something but to no avail. Thorin continued smiling at you as his - '(Y/N), wake up love' a voice spoke firmly. You frowned in your sleep. How could you hear his voice when he was no longer alive? In your dream you were weeping, moarning your lost love. The tears made their way down your cheeks in real life too. Thorin gently shook you by your shoulders. He had just fallen asleep himself when he started to hear you mumble. At first he thought it would be fun to listen to you, maybe you were dreaming about him. However, when you began to mumble about blood and death, he knew enough. 'You are dreaming âzyungâl, come here to me' he spoke into your ear.
In your dream, Dwalin had come to you to comfort you. 'He is gone (y/n), there is nothing we can do about it.' You shook your head violently. 'No, that can not be. He can not be dead.' Dwalin softly stroked your hair. 'You have read the book, haven't you? They are all dead. Fili and Kili too. Maybe even I am dead.' You turned around to see what he meant. His arms had fallen limp around you and you were staring in his dark eyes, there was no live in him left. You screamed at the top of your lungs, hitting and kicking to get away from the dead body of your friend. In real life, Thorin was trying to hold your body tight so you couldn't hit him again. He had taken one blow to the elbow and it was more then enough.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down. He was so worried about you. No matter what you were dreaming about, it wasn't something happy. 'Love, please, I am here for you. Wake up and let me cuddle with you' he pleaded. Some of it was coming through. And how could Dwalin know about the book? Had Kim told him about it? Or Gandalf... Maybe both, but that still didn't explain why you were transported from one scene to another. Were you dreaming? You fought really hard to get away from the strange world around you. Trying to reach for Thorin's voice in the back of your head. Thorin placed a soft peck on your lips to try and wake you up. The cold touch made you sit up straight in your bed, wide awake, checking where you were.
'What was that dream about?' Thorin asked carefully. He knew that you had had a nightmare. From experience with his brother he knew to not shock you while you were still disorientated. You looked at him in shock, he was still alive. Breathing. Talking. It was all a dream. Looking at you in concern. It was all a dream. It wasn't real.
You threw yourself at him, burrying your nose in the crook of his neck. He wasted no time wrapping his own arms around you. 'What happened?' he asked worried. 'Y-you we-were dead... I saw it with my own eyes!' you weeped. He pulled back a bit to cup your face. 'Look at me' he ordered. Tears were still clouding your vision as you tried to look at him. He got a hold of your hand and slowly brought it to his chest. 'Can you feel my heartbeat?' You nodded, yes, you could feel it. 'You can see that I am looking at you and you can hear my voice, can you not?' Again, you nodded. 'Then you know I am not dead. I am right here with you.'
He placed his other hand on your stomache. 'Our child is growing inside of you. We created our baby together. And we will both be there to help our child grow and become a strong, independent adult. I promise you that, I won't go where you can not follow' he spoke softly. 'Promised?' you asked, your voice shaking. He leaned forward to press his forehead against yours. 'Promised.'
